Wikileaks should understand ground situation of this country: Naqvi

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) vice president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Tuesday played down Wikileaks sudden volte-face about BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, which has been released on its website.

"It is quite clear everyone is now talking that Narendra Modi is the best person to lead this country on every nook and corner of the country. It doesn't matter what Wikileaks says. What is important is the message and not the messenger. Crores of people in this country are connected through social media, and they express their feelings through that medium," Naqvi said.

"It is not important what a messenger like Wikileaks belonging from U.S says about the happenings in this country. Wikileaks will know themselves as to what made them to decide on publishing such news. It is important that Wikileaks should understand the mood of this country and the ground situation," Naqvi added.

WikiLeaks on its website, on Sunday, through its tweets, rubbished BJP's claims of quoting Modi as the 'lone honest Indian politician' and tweeted that it had only named a Congress leader Manoharsinh Jadeja in the diplomatic cable in 2011.

The site added that BJP supporters were spreading fake propaganda about WikiLeaks founder, Julian Assange, backing Modi's honesty.
