Calling future hackers, this workshop might be for you

Jefferson Lab is hosting an A.I. Hack-A-Thon for those interested in learning about artificial intelligence.

The purpose is to generate interest in A.I. in the field of nuclear physics by giving participants a free, hands on experience, according to the news release.

The event is free and open to the public. The deadline to register is Friday.

The last 10 years have seen explosive growth in the field of A.I. according to the news release. This was fueled, in large part, by rapid increases in computational hardware alongside the accessibility of vast amounts of data. As A.I. becomes increasingly pervasive in society, the nuclear physics community has recognized its potential.

Attendees will learn about charged particle reconstruction in nuclear physics experiments and work in teams to solve challenges such as tracking charged particles through magnetic fields to reconstruct algorithms, according to the news release.

For those currently in the nuclear physics field, such as college students, graduate students and professors, can participate in another event, the A.I. for Nuclear Physics Workshop on March 4-6. Registration ranges from $50-$100.

The University of Virginias School of Data Science are also co-hosting both events.

The A.I. Hack-A-Thon at Jefferson Lab,12000 Jefferson Ave.,is on Tuesday, March 3 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Food and beverages will be provided.
