THE United States could be facing a bombing attack from a very unexpected source as fears of global conflict reach fever pitch.

Turkey has said US troops in Syria could be bombed by its airforce in a shock announcement that leaves Donald Trump with the prospect of war on two fronts.

Ilnur Cevik, a senior adviser to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, said American forces should watch their step in Syria or face the consequences.

Cevik argued that US troops working in coalition with Kurdish forces, Turkey's fierce enemy, would fire indiscriminately if Kurdish and US troops strayed into Turkish-controlled zones.

Asked to clarify if his comments meant that US presence in Syria would be in danger from Turkish airstrikes, Cevik said bluntly that they would.

The Presidential adviser later took to Twitter to backtrack on his comments.

Turkey has never and will never hit its allies anywhere, and that includes the U.S. in Syria, he tweeted.
