Joseph Smith, Jr. (December 23, 1805-June 27, 1844) was the founder of the Mormon cult. Joseph Smith claimed that his church was the only true church and that an Angel named Moroni appeared to him. Joseph Smith #39;s family was deeply involved in the occult. In 1826, Smith was arrested for practicing "glass looking" which was an occult practice in which he claimed that he could find buried treasure with his "peepstone" for a price.
