Republican Randy Weber defeats ex-lawmaker Nick Lampson in U.S. Representative race

LEAGUE CITY, TX (KTRK) -- Former U.S. Rep. Nick Lampson has just conceded in the race for to replace U.S. Representative Ron Paul in District 14.

Lampson cried as he delivered his speech, saying that he and his supporters were engaged in a tough campaign. He said he called his opponent, Republican Randy Weber, to congratulate him for his victory.

In a statement, Weber said, "I want to tell the supporters of Nick Lampson that I will work to earn your trust as well. Our love of country, of Texas and of the Gulf Coast are three important areas of agreement. Let's build from that. I also want to congratulate Nick on running a strong campaign and I appreciate his willingness to offer himself for up for public service."

Weber is a two-term Texas state representative originally from Pearland who recently moved to Alvin to be within the district. He was endorsed by Ron Paul over the summer.

Paul announced his plans to retire from Congress while running for as presidential candidate in the 2012 election. Paul has been in Congress for more than 20 years.
