Gov. Paul LePage is being joined by Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul and North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory at Maine's Republican convention in Bangor on Saturday.

State Republicans are trying to send a message of unity in 2014. During the GOP's 2012 convention, supporters of former Texas Rep. Ron Paul rose up against party leaders who supported former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney's bid for president.

This year, Maine Republicans see unity as their way to keep Gov. LePage in the Blaine House and reclaim majorities in the state House of Representatives and state Senate.

Democrats took majorities in both chambers during the 2012 race.

Maine Democratic Party leaders say Republicans are unifying around policies that hurt the middle class.

U.S. Sen. Susan Collins, who is up for re-election this year, will be speaking at the Bangor convention on Saturday as well.

WMTW News 8 political reporter Paul Merrill is in Bangor to report on the developments at the state's GOP convention.
