The save the futurist campaign group has started legal proceedings against Scarborough Borough Council seeking permission to judicially review its decisions of 9th and 17th January 2017 to demolish Scarboroughs Futurist Theatre.

In order to take the action theSave The Futurist group has been required to become a legal entity and is now Save The Futurist Theatre (Scarborough) Ltd.

In a statementthe groupsay...

"We are incredibly fortunate to have a leading firm of solicitors, Squire Patton Boggs LLP of Leeds working on this action for us together with a leading London public law QC. They have worked tirelessly, over and above all expectation on our behalf."

The group are also seeing financial support to fund the legal action, they say.

This action is costly but has had to be taken in an attempt to stop demolition of The Futurist Theatre. The legal fight has only just begun. We are going to need financial support to continue the action and maximise the chance of changing the mind of the Council. There is now a concrete focus to rally around and this is the best chance that our local, national and international supporters have to do something real and practical to save the Futurist. A little bit of money given by a lot of members of the worldwide Futurist family is what we need.

The legal proceedings against the Borough Council were issued on Friday, the Save The Futurist group say they are planning another Public Meeting very soon.

Scarborough Borough Council have been approached for comment.
