PointsBet To Be Down This Weekend In NJ Sports Betting Market – Legal Sports Report

New Jersey sports betting will be down a sportsbook during Memorial Day weekend as PointsBet deals with an outage.

PointsBet will be unavailable to the New Jersey sports betting market until Monday. A company spokesperson confirmed the weekend-long outage Friday afternoon.

The spokesperson also confirmed the issue is confined to New Jersey only and does not affect other states. The company did not provide any additional details regarding the situation.

PointsBet tweeted about the outage Friday afternoon:

Unfortunately, PointsBets app will be unavailable in New Jersey until Monday. Please reach out to [emailprotected] if you have any further questions. We apologize for the inconvenience.

An error message in the app said the companys technology teams are working diligently to restore services. Memorial Day weekend sports events include the NBA and NHL playoffs, MLB regular season, French Open tennis tournament, and the PGA Tours Charles Schwab Challenge.

Including PointsBet, there are 23sportsbooks in the New Jersey market. In April, those sportsbooks handled $926.9 million, a 23.9%jump from April 2021.

The year-over-year handle growth comes despite New York launching its mobile sports betting market. New York sportsbooks took $1.39 billion in wagers during April.

PointsBet is licensed through the Meadowlands. The Meadowlands partners which also include FanDuel and SuperBook led the state with $33.3 million in April sports betting revenue, or 66.2% of the total reported in New Jersey.

PointsBet launched its NJ sportsbook in January 2019,and it was the Australian sportsbook operators first US sports betting market. The sportsbook is now licensed in 10 states and Ontario.

During the companys most recent quarterly earnings call, PointsBet reported a $577.2 million US handle. The total was up 70% compared to the same quarter in 2021.
