Htel Delos, Ile de Bendor

Htel Deloswas designed by Paul Ricard, founder of the liqueur brand Pastis, who also bought the island of Bendor (home to the hotel), off the coast of Provence in 1950 (he also owned nearby le des Embiez). It quickly became the go-to spot for the creative set, including Salvador Dal, Marcel Pagnol and Gilbert Bcaud, who all came for its wild landscapes, impressive white rocks and blue, blue waters. The 19-room hotel, which was built with local stone, has sea views from its rooms, pool and terraces. The bar feels more Morocco than Med. Activities include tennis, hiking, watersports, sailing and diving.

Hotel & Spa des Pcheurs, Cavallo, France

Cavallo, known as the 'Mustique of the Med', lies in the Lavezzi archipelago between Corsica and Sardinia. Its a private island, belonging to a syndicate of property owners. Just over a mile from end to end, it has the outline of a jigsaw piece, which comes from promontories cupping rocky coves washed by a lapis lazuli sea. The water is lens-clear, which makes it great for snorkelling and diving. The 50-roomHotel & Spa des Pcheursis the smart place to be. Besides the spa, gym and outdoor pool all available to non-residents for 20 (18) a day there are bikes for hire and a pleasant seafront restaurant.
