The two biggest brands in the global online poker industry locked horns once again as PokerStars and GGPoker held Winter-themed tournament series in the last two months. With both competitions in the virtual poker arena now concluded, the final figures reveal that more than $208 million in combined prize money was awarded.

GGPoker topped the market leader by more than two to one in terms of overall prize pools, but also hosted four times as many tournaments. Likewise, the duration of the second-ever WSOP Winter Online Circuit on the rising online poker giant was far longer than PokerStars Winter Series. Both brands comfortably surpassed their overall series guarantees along the way, kicking off the new year in style.

While featuring far fewer tournaments, the Winter Series on PokerStars attracted more than 1.4 million entries (443,837 of which were re-entries) and awarded over $61 million in prize money.

Its counterpart on the GGPoker network remained just below the seven-figure mark but eclipsed the 558,005 total entrants of the inaugural edition while featuring a lower average buy-in. It eventually paid out $146 million over thousand of tournaments.

A closer look at the overall numbers will be satisfying for both fierce contenders of the online poker throne.
