When online casinos in West Virginia go live in late July, its likely that casino players will recognize the name.

Both DraftKings and FanDuel released new, standalone online casino apps late last month. DraftKings launched its online casino in New Jersey, whereas FanDuel started up in Pennsylvania.

The West Virginia Lottery predicts at least one online casino will be ready to launch by the end of July. It seems likely DraftKings Casino or FanDuel Casino could be the one.

The former daily fantasy sports competitors are now competing in both sports betting and online casino markets. Both previously offered casino wagering through their online sports betting apps:

Since so many bettors around the country are now familiar with the DraftKings and FanDuel name, growing their online casino brands wont be as difficult.

Both companies are making their online casino app debuts in states where theyre already set up for sports betting.

Typically, operators would have to build the technology in the app and pass regulatory standards. With that process completed in so many states with DraftKings and FanDuel sportsbooks, they have a jump on the competition.

New Jersey and Pennsylvania were first, but its looking like WV could be next.

DraftKings is a partner with the Hollywood Casino and FanDuel is the online sportsbook provider for The Greenbrier.

After submitting emergency rules to the Secretary of State in May, online casinos in WV are getting close to becoming a reality. The public comment period is scheduled to end on July 11.

Once the Lottery Commission meets on July 22, an online casino launch date could follow shortly after.

Myers told PlayWV that he is optimistic that at least one online casino app will hit the WV market in the near future.

We have had discussions with all of our casinos. We expect one could be in a position to launch in July if their suppliers achieve licensing approval.

This is not only exciting for those who enjoy gambling, but for the casinos and the state.

Land-based casinos were closed from mid-March until the beginning of June due to COVID-19. The additional revenue online casinos can bring will help generate more income for the state, which has seen expected lottery revenue earnings plummet of late.

Casino players will find similar games from live casinos on the DraftKings and FanDuel casino apps. Like most other online casinos, they will offer the following:

In addition to the standard games casino guests want to play, DraftKings is producing new ones, as well. Besides just alternatives to some of the common games, the operator is creating some unique titles only available with DraftKings.

Usually, slots are one of the most popular choices among mobile casino bettors. However, apps like FanDuel and DraftKings actually saw more table-game action than some online casinos.

If the operators are able to appeal to casino gamblers as well as sports bettors, slots should be a major part of the revenue breakdown. FanDuel noted that 82% of new online casino customers prefer to wager on slots.

WV casino players who love to bet at the casino will have soon have the option to play online. Along with any mobile apps that launch, residents have been able to return to their favorite retail casinos over the last month.

These include:

It wouldnt be surprising to see more online platforms release once the first one becomes available. Every casino is eligible to receive an online license.

This added revenue cant come soon enough for the casinos and the state. With sports still slowly returning, online casino revenue could have a massive impact.
