Scotland and California have agreed to work together to tackle climate change with a focus on the importance of technologies such as offshore wind.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon and Governor Jerry Brown (pictured)met to discuss how the administrations can work together to achieve the ambitions of the Under2 MoU, which aims tohelp limit temperature rises to under two degrees.

The leadersalso discussed the importance of offshore wind in tackling climate change and "considered how the two governments could share knowledge and bestpractice in developing this technology.

The Scottish government also signaled its continued commitment to Under2, including delivery of "ambitious domestic measures" to reduce carbon emissions.

Sturgeon said: We have also offered to help the Under2 Coalition, representing over 1 billion people, to prepare for a major summit in 2018.

The summit will bring together the public and private sectors, alongside NGOs, to build support and action aimed at persuading national governments to increasetheir efforts to tackle climate change, in what will be an important year for taking stock against progress of the Paris Agreement, she added.
