Dad ‘abandons’ adopted twins, 6, ‘after losing interest in parenting’ – Yahoo News Australia

Posted: November 29, 2020 at 5:30 am

An Argentine father has allegedly abandoned his two recently-adopted African twin sons at a police station because he lost interest in his parental duties, police said.

The six-year-old boys, whose names have not been disclosed, were reportedly left at a police station for women in Bahia Blanca in the province of Buenos Aires in eastern Argentina.

Police stations for women are dedicated to cases regarding gender violence, children and family issues.

The twins adoptive parents have been identified as Eduardo Rucci and Natacha Perrig and have an 11-year-old biological daughter of their own, according to local publications.

Local sources said Eduardo drove about 997 kilometres to his native city of Bahia Blanca from San Martin de Los Andes in Neuquen Province at the foot of the Andes on November 17 to leave the children at the station.

Infobae newspaper said the family had moved to the Andean region after returning from a trip to Africa in January of this year.

The parents are now under investigation by the authorities for possible child abuse and the police are looking into the legality of their adoption, the publication said.

Infobae reported that Rucci arrived at the station holding the boys by their arms refusing to look at them.

He told the authorities that he wanted to return the children because he has lost interest in all paternal obligations of taking care, feeding, and educating his kids, the publication said.

There have been no reports as to why officials at the station allowed him to leave the twins there.

On Fathers Day, Rucci posted on social media that this year was special for him and his adopted sons.

According to local sources, the children did not know they were being dropped off at the station for good and they waited for their adoptive father to return for a period of time.

They are now being cared for by the local authorities and are said to be healthy and well despite their difficult situation.

Around 500 people have already reached out to offer their help since the news became public.

Story continues

Locals from San Martin de Los Andes said they were shocked to hear about the reported abandonment.

If they had financial problems they would have said something, an unidentified person told Infobae.

I don't understand how he left the city with the two kids, travelled 1,500 kilometres and no one asked for papers. He came back without the two kids and there was not a single official complaint or anything.

Others said they looked like a completely normal and loving family.

Investigations are ongoing.

Phil Mickelson gifted Charles Barkley golf balls with Shaq’s face on them during The Match – Yahoo Sports

Posted: at 5:30 am

Phoenix Suns legend Charles Barkley is a golf champion. Barkley and Phil Mickelson were victorious over Stephen Curry and Peyton Manning during The Match on Friday.

While Mickelson deserves plenty of credit for that, Barkley had some extra motivation to hit the ball far. In order to propel his teammate to new heights, Mickelson gifted Barkley with a set of golf balls featuring Shaquille ONeals face on them.

Mickelson timed his gift well, handing Barkley the balls while the Inside the NBA crew showed up on the broadcast.

Barkley didnt miss a beat upon receiving the gift. He turned to the camera and immediately said, This is the ugliest ball in the world right here. Shaq and the rest of the Inside the NBA crew couldnt help but laugh.

The rest of the interview was peak Inside the NBA. The crew mostly roasted Barkley, but there were some genuinely insightful moments in the conversation. The crew remained quiet while Mickelson explained how he wanted Barkley to hit a shot on the green. ONeal, however, couldnt help from cracking a joke. Despite all that ribbing, Barkleys next shot was pretty good. He came up just short of sinking the putt.

Barkley and ONeal are often at the center of the best Inside the NBA highlights. The two have a friendly on-air rivalry, and are constantly trading barbs. ONeal often knocks Barkley for never winning an NBA championship. Barkley often insults ONeals intelligence.

While the two have engaged in some heated moments, cooler heads have always prevailed on the air. Its made for entertaining television.

The public hasnt experienced many of those moments lately. Inside the NBA has been off the air for a few weeks during the NBA offseason. Viewers wont miss out on their banter much longer, though. The 2020-21 NBA preseason begins Dec. 11, which means Inside the NBA will be back on the air sooner than you think.

Carson Wentz tries to save season, and maybe keep his job, as Eagles face Seahawks on Yahoo Sports app – Yahoo Sports

Posted: at 5:30 am

Its understandable why we want to make excuses for Carson Wentz.

Wentz was a dynamic player for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2017 before a season-ending knee injury. He was a leading candidate for MVP. Patrick Mahomes was still at Texas Tech, and Wentz was considered the future of the NFL. Its hard to believe the player we saw early in his career has fallen off. Wed rather blame his lack of a supporting cast.

But Wentzs play has fallen off. Weve heard all about how his offensive line is in shambles and his receivers are subpar, but that doesnt totally absolve Wentz of blame. He and the Eagles, who somehow led the NFC East at 3-6-1 after Week 11, face the Seattle Seahawks in a game that can be live-streamed on the Yahoo Sports app.

Instead of Wentz and Russell Wilson headlining a fun Monday game, we can prepare for a night of analysis over what has happened to Wentz. If it goes bad enough, we might even wonder if its time to see what rookie quarterback Jalen Hurts has to offer.

The frustrating thing about Wentz is that the talent he showed in 2017 still bubbles up to the surface on occasion.

We could see it when he led an upset of the San Francisco 49ers in October with a skeleton crew around him. It showed up again when Wentz made plays to lift the Eagles to a wild comeback win over the New York Giants.

Its not like Wentz has completely lost it. He still makes big-time throws. Its just that the mistakes overshadow the highlights.

The loss against the Cleveland Browns was a good example. Wentz held the ball too long, and was hit on a pass that was intercepted and returned for a pick six. He took a sack in the end zone for a safety. When the Eagles had some life left in the final minutes, Wentz threw another interception deep in Browns territory. And that came with the Eagles being as healthy as any NFL team is by Week 11. There werent any great excuses for his play this time.

Wentz has 14 interceptions. He has taken 40 sacks, and thats not all the offensive lines fault. He leads the NFL with 10 fumbles, losing four.

Story continues

Its no wonder why Eagles fans are getting impatient and want a change.

ABC 6 in Philadelphia posted a poll this week: Should Carson Wentz be benched? Of the people who responded, 89 percent said yes. Imagine seeing that in 2017.

The Eagles have resisted benching Wentz. It has to be hard. Partially because Wentz has those great plays in short stretches. But its also tough to admit that Wentz, once viewed as an elite NFL quarterback, might not be the guy anymore.

I think, if you get to that spot, where you dont start him, or you bench him, youre sending the wrong message to your football team. That the seasons over. Thats a bad message, Eagles coach Doug Pederson said, via the Philadelphia Inquirer.

The Eagles invited these questions when they strangely drafted Hurts in the second round. It shouldnt be a surprise that people want to see what Hurts can do with Wentz struggling.

Philly will keep going with Wentz, at least for now. It wont stop anyone from speculating about him being benched if the turnovers keep coming. Its just a matter of how close Pederson is to losing patience and making the change that most Eagles fans seem to want.

More than 700 gang members arrested in massive sweep – Yahoo News Australia

Posted: at 5:30 am

More than 700 gang members from cross-border crime organisations have been slammed with criminal charges.

El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras have brought criminal charges against more than 700 members of criminal organisations, primarily the MS-13 and 18th Street gangs, in a US-assisted effort, the US Department of Justice said on Friday.

The US Department of Justice and our law enforcement partners in Central America are committed to continued collaboration in locating and arresting gang members and associates engaged in transnational crimes, US Attorney General William Barr said, according to the statement.

The charges resulted from a one-week coordinated law enforcement action under Operation Regional Shield (ORS), a DOJ-led initiative to combat transnational organised crime that brings together authorities from El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico and the US.

Tackling transnational human smuggling networks and gangs, including MS-13, is a top priority for President Donald Trump.

Prosecutors in El Salvador this week filed criminal charges against 1,152 members of organised crime groups in the country, primarily MS-13 and 18th Street gangs, the statement said.

The national civil police captured 572 of the defendants on charges involving terrorism, murder, extortion, kidnapping, money laundering, human trafficking and human smuggling, among others.

In Guatemala, authorities executed 80 search warrants, arrested 40 individuals and served 29 arrest warrants against people already in custody, all of whom are members of the 18th Street gang and MS-13, the DOJ said.

Guatemalan authorities seized drugs and a firearm, and filed charges for extortion, illicit association, conspiracy to commit murder and extortive obstruction.

In Honduras, the one-week joint operation resulted in the arrest of over 75 MS-13 and 18th Street gang members and five police officers and the execution of over 10 search warrants.

First batches of Covid-19 vaccine are rushed to the US – Yahoo News Australia

Posted: at 5:30 am

A coronavirus vaccine is being rushed to the United States as preparations to distribute it across the country enter their final stages.

US health authorities will hold an emergency meeting next week to recommend the vaccine, which is still awaiting full approval, be given first to healthcare professionals and people in long-term care facilities.

The meeting, announced on Friday by a US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) committee on immunisations, suggests that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) may be close to authorising distribution of the long-awaited medication, at least to those considered most vulnerable.

United Airlines has begun moving shipments of the vaccine, developed by Pfizer Inc, on charter flights to ensure it can be quickly distributed once it is approved, according to a person familiar with the matter.

The CDCs Advisory Committee on Immunisation Practices will vote on Tuesday (local time) to recommend that the FDA allow healthcare professionals and long-term care facilities to be the first two groups to get initial vaccine supplies, a CDC spokeswoman said.

A green light for any vaccine would come as welcome news to Americans, who political leaders have clamped under increasingly aggressive measures to curtail the spread of the virus.

Los Angeles County health officials on Friday banned all public and private gatherings for at least three weeks and urged residents to stay home as much as possible.

Americans began the holiday season on Friday under pressure to stay home, avoid gatherings and curtail Christmas shopping.

One day after the nation marked a low-key Thanksgiving, malls and retailers imposing strict Covid-19 rules saw fewer shoppers for the traditional Black Friday start of holiday shopping.

Story continues

Remember, skip the crowds and shop from home this Black Friday, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, a first-term Democrat, wrote on Twitter.

Nearly six million Americans flew from Friday to Wednesday, the Transportation Security Administration says, a number that is, however, less than half that of the same period last year.

Roughly 90,000 patients were being treated for Covid-19 in hospitals on Friday, a number that has doubled in the last month to the highest since the pandemic began.

This is the reality we face when COVID-19 is allowed to spread unchecked ICUs at capacity, not enough health care workers available, New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham said in a tweet.

The country has had more than 13 million coronavirus cases and more than 264,000 deaths.

Penn State finally gets first win of 2020, and it comes at Michigan’s expense – Yahoo Sports

Posted: at 5:30 am

Penn State finally got its first win of 2020, and it came at Michigans expense.

This was the first time Penn State and Michigan squared off when they both had a losing record. It showed. There were untimely penalties, missed tackles, lackluster passing attacks, a muffed punt and questionable play-calling.

In essence, it was a game between two bad teams, but it was Penn State that emerged with a 27-17 victory on Saturday in Ann Arbor.

Neither offense was explosive, and Penn State did most of its damage on the ground with freshman Keyvone Lee and junior quarterback Sean Clifford. Lee entered the game with 19 career carries but Penn State played the game without its top three running backs. Lee filled in admirably, finishing the game with 134 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries.

Clifford was back in the starting lineup after getting benched for Will Levis earlier in the season and had only 163 passing yards, but he avoided costly turnovers that have plagued him, rushed for 73 yards and a score and made some timely third-down throws to Jahan Dotson on a fourth-quarter scoring drive that gave the Nittany Lions a two-score lead.

Parker Washington, another true freshman, also had a big game for PSU with nine catches for 93 yards. He was featured early and helped Penn State take a 17-7 lead into halftime.

On the Michigan side, Saturdays game marked the first career start for Cade McNamara, who came in off the bench and played hero in last weeks triple-overtime win over Rutgers.

Against Penn State, McNamara really struggled. He left the game early with what appeared to be a shoulder injury, but eventually returned to the ballgame. When he did, he was wholly ineffective. He completed just 12 of his 25 pass attempts for 91 yards.

Michigan was able to run the ball behind Hassan Haskins. Haskins put up 101 yards and two scores, including a two-yarder that cut Penn States lead to 20-17 early in the fourth quarter. But Penn State immediately responded with a touchdown of its own to increase its lead back to 10 points.

Story continues

With Michigan completely incapable of throwing the ball, any attempt at a comeback went nowhere. And when 6-foot-5, 243-pound QB Joe Milton was stuffed on a QB sneak on fourth down, that pretty much sealed the victory for Penn State, who then took over on offense and ran out the clock without much resistance.

Michigan dropped to 2-4 with the loss, including an ugly 0-3 mark at home.

It was another ugly performance for Jim Harbaughs team as the questions surrounding Harbaughs future with the program will further come into question. Michigan didnt even muster 300 yards offensively in this one against a Penn State team that had allowed at least 30 points in all five of its games en route to an unexpected 0-5 start.

But Penn State was the better team on Saturday. The Nittany Lions have been plagued by turnovers, but Michigans defense never came close to forcing even one. Worse than that, Michigan allowed a freshman fourth-string running back to run the ball down their throats. Lee was an acclaimed recruit, but the way he slipped through the arm tackles of Michigan defenders is a further indictment against the once-heralded Don Brown defense.

Dating back to 1883, Michigan has never gone winless at home in its history, and will now need to beat Maryland next week to avoid that infamy. And after the Maryland game will be Michigans next chance to play rival Ohio State. Michigan has never defeated the Buckeyes under Harbaugh. Its one of the things he was hired to do, but its looking less likely than ever this year with the way UM has been playing.

Penn State opened the season ranked in the top 10, but started 0-5 for the first time in program history. James Franklins team easily could have folded, but managed to play a competent game on Saturday in Ann Arbor.

This clearly isnt the most talented group Franklin has had during his time at PSU, but there are at least some young players fans can feel good about through the rest of this season and into 2021. Better yet, the rest of the schedule Rutgers and Michigan State is very manageable.

A strong finish to the season could be something for PSU to hang its hat on going into the offseason after starting the 2020 campaign in miserable fashion. PSU is a program expected to compete for Big Ten titles, but now its after moral victories as 2020 comes to a close.

The Bengals failed Joe Burrow, and the NFL is worse for it – Yahoo Sports

Posted: at 5:30 am

In this new era of elite quarterback preservation, we were supposed to be beyond this.

We were supposed to be through with the days of the injury cart ferrying off the most prized franchise commodity, often to the disgust of every competitor on the field. Rule changes were made for this. Offensive philosophies were augmented. Equipment was enhanced. All in the name of extending the longevity of special talents in the hopes that guys like Patrick Mahomes, Kyler Murray and Deshaun Watson can all play into their 40s.

But as the Cincinnati Bengals have taught us this season, the NFL can go only so far to protect the best parts of the leagues product. The NFL can penalize defenseless hits, dirty shots and earhole-slapping concussions but it cant force franchises to build the right way around a quarterback. It cant dictate scheme tweaks that are meant to preserve the future. And it sure as hell cant fix bad management.

If the NFL could, maybe it could have changed what happened to Joe Burrow on Sunday. But it cant, leaving the Bengals to finally break the best thing they had going for them. Its not just bad for a Cincinnati franchise that cant seem to protect anything nice but also terrible for the NFL, which is trying its damndest to preserve special quarterbacks who can resurrect franchises and become centerpieces in the next phase of the game.

Through the first nine games of his professional career, Burrow was looking like that kind of guy. Now, the left knee of the No. 1 overall draft pick is shredded in the midst of a rookie season that had often seen him exposed by both his scheme and the surrounding talent.

Since the infamous destruction of David Carrs career in Houston nearly 15 years ago, NFL teams were supposed to be past this kind of thing. After all, the league had spent the better part of the past decade legislating out much of the violence that was destroying quarterbacks. Not just because it wanted a higher-scoring and more exciting product (which it does), but also because it wanted to protect the most important and highest-paid investments that good franchises have.

Story continues

The underlying ideology was hard to argue: Healthy quarterbacks are good for virtually everyone, including the fans who consume the product.

There has always been a flip side to the leagues efforts. And it required really only one thing from teams. When a franchise is blessed with a quarterback who can dramatically alter its future for a decade or more, handle him with care.

The league cant legislate stupidity out of the system. So it has been incumbent upon team owners, general managers and head coaches to make sure they do their part with their defining quarterbacks. If they have someone special under center, do everything they can to preserve him both schematically and from a roster-building standpoint.

The Bengals screwed that up in 2020. Plain and simple.

Thats how you ended up with Burrows left knee getting folded under him Sunday, in a moment that cast a pall over much of the league. In the third quarter, Washington defensive tackle Jonathan Allen (who was being held, no less) slammed into Burrow and then rolled over the quarterbacks pinned leg.

The outcome was as instantaneous as it was brutal, leaving Burrow writhing in pain and Allen sitting next to him on the turf shaking his head in disgust over what had happened.

Few things telegraph how screwed up a quarterback injury is more clearly than the defender who had a part in it reacting the way Allen did. Just like Dak Prescotts ankle injury earlier this season, pretty much everyone knows the gravity of a season-ending injury to a franchise quarterback.

Dont think the Bengals dont know it, too. Cincinnati head coach Zac Taylor seemed to express a moment of defiance after Burrows injury on Sunday, when he shot back at criticism over his teams offensive line. Its worth wondering how much of the emotion was tied to Taylor sensing the microscope that is coming.

We gave up a lot of pressure in the beginning of the season, Taylor said after the loss to Washington. In these last couple weeks, our guys have done a great job of keeping people off Joe. Hes had a great pocket. He did not have a sack in the first half. The hit, as I saw it, wasnt with the ball in his hand. People keep talking about the offensive line without seemingly watching the film for the last four weeks. Again, those guys have done a good job, its been a revolving door of players [and] they have been doing a great job. Joe has done a great job moving us down the field. We felt like we were making a lot of progress over the last five weeks, and we are not going to apologize for any of that.

Frankly, thats a weird angle on this injury. Probably best not to mention the revolving door at offensive line after your franchise quarterback suffered a blown-out knee in a game that saw him throw an absurd 29 passes in the first half. People might question whether you could have possibly drawn up the game plan differently. That is, unless you view a 50-plus pass attempt game a good thing behind a revolving offensive line.

Nobody is asking Taylor to apologize for progress on the offensive line. But he can absolutely make progress while also adjusting his scheme to protect a quarterback behind a shuffling line that has not been remotely consistent this season.

Maybe Taylor should apologize to Burrow for not running the ball on that third-and-2 play that got Burrow injured, while throwing a deep ball against a blitz.

Maybe Taylor could apologize for calling an offense that put Burrow on pace to smash Andrew Lucks record for rookie pass attempts (which again, isnt a record a team wants to achieve behind this line).

Maybe Taylor should apologize to Burrow for him being the second-most sacked quarterback through nine games, including a litany of sledgehammer hits that came after releasing the football.

Or maybe Taylor should apologize for the start of Burrows 2020 season unfolding in a similar fashion to that of Carr, including taking 72 hits heading into Sunday. A situation so concerning, Carr himself has commented on Burrows duress multiple times since he was drafted in April.

If anyone isnt getting the point here, the aforementioned comparisons arent a good thing for Burrow. On one hand, you have Luck, a former first overall pick whose punishment and litany of injuries forced him into early retirement at 29 years old. And on the other, you have Carr, a promising former first overall pick who took so many hits and sacks the first three years of his career that he never looked right again. Both of these guys had their careers unquestionably altered by schemes and offensive lines that exposed them to a staggering number of hits.

Sound familiar?

At some point in all of this, team owner/general manager Mike Brown has to have some kind of institutional memory here. Perhaps he should have recalled what Carson Palmers knee injury did to that promising career in Cincinnati. Or Brown should have had the presence of mind to understand that a franchise quarterback has to be protected inside the build. Sometimes from himself. Sometimes from the head coach. And always from the percentages that expose him to more danger when the offensive line is swapping out players from one week to the next.

Then again, maybe Brown could have prepared for this better like the other NFL team in Ohio, the Cleveland Browns, which had an offensive line that was an atrocious mess in 2019. The Browns spent last offseason upgrading both of their tackles, while adopting a scheme that was heavily predicated on running the football and incorporating tight ends in their protections. Basically, all of the things that might have helped Burrow this season.

The Browns figured it out. The Bengals didnt. Now, Joe Burrow is injured and none of this is a revelation. For months, there has been a chorus of voices bellowing about that line and the exposure of Burrow inside the scheme. At some point, something bad was bound to happen. And then, it did.

It happened in a game against a Washington team that was largely meaningless, creating a problematic injury for Burrow that is anything but. The NFL is left to again ponder that it can protect a franchise quarterback only to a certain point. After that, failure falls on the team. Sometimes, it lands right at knee level.

Here’s what you need to know about the NBA’s new COVID-19 protocols – Yahoo Sports

Posted: at 5:30 am

The 2020-21 NBA season is fast approaching, and having no bubble at Disney World this time means the league will be playing under a new set of COVID-19 safety protocols.

Heres what you need to know about the 134-page NBA health and safety protocol guide the league has distributed to teams and was obtained by Yahoo Sports.

With NBA teams playing games in their home markets again, even more vigilance is needed with COVID-19 safety. The NFL is currently in the process of learning what happens when those protocols are shirked.

From the moments they step out of their car, players will be expected to wear facemasks at all times when at a team facility, except during workouts and practices. Coaches and training staff must wear their masks even during practice, with the guide specifically saying coaches may not pull down their masks to yell at players.

All teams will designate up to 45 people as their Tier 1 group, including players, coaches, training staff and more. That group will be prohibited from accessing any areas used for business operations (e.g. conference rooms) and will not be allowed to interact in person with Tier 3 individuals like facility operations personnel.

Traveling parties for NBA teams on the road are limited to 45 people as well, and that will be expected to minimize risks to manage their health and enhance that of all individuals involved in the 2020-21 season.

If a player tests positive for COVID-19, teams will have a lengthy checklist of things to do.

After a confirmed positive test, teams will have to inform local public health authorities, employ contact tracing, clean and disinfect any area the player has occupied since he last tested negative and provide housing for the player to isolate until meeting certain thresholds.

Per ESPN, teams typically arent allowed to pay for player housing because it could be a way to circumvent the salary cap (a rent-free mansion would have quite a bit of value in contract talks), but the realities of coronavirus has forced the league to change its ways.

Story continues

So, a player on your favorite team has tested positive for the coronavirus. When can you expect to see them on the court again?

There are two ways for a player to be cleared from isolation. One is the time-based resolution, in which players must wait until 10 days have passed since the onset of symptoms. The other is the test-based resolution, where a player must test negative in two consecutive test more than 24 hours apart. After either condition is met, the player will go through a medical review.

Upon return via the time-based resolution, the player will have to spend two more days working out alone with a mask until he can rejoin the team.

Back by less than popular demand, players will once again be encouraged to anonymously report any violations of the NBAs protocols to the league office.

Long live the snitch line.

It was eight months ago when Rudy Gobert tested positive for the coronavirus and shut down the 2019-20 season. Since the league resumed play, no player has tested positive before a game.

So what happens when a player tests positive again? The league will keep playing:

The occurrence of independent cases or a small or otherwise expected number of COVID-19 cases will not require a decision to suspend or cancel the 2020-21 season.

What happens in the event of a large number of cases? The guide doesnt say.

NBA rumor and transaction tracker: Warriors granted $9.3 million exception for injured Klay Thompson – Yahoo Sports

Posted: at 5:30 am

Welcome to the Yahoo Sports 2020 NBA rumor and transaction tracker. In this post, well break down all the draft, free agency and trade talk ahead of the 2020-21 season.

Top free agents: Point guards | Shooting guards | Small forwards | Power forwards | Center

Though it feels like just yesterday the bubble season wrapped up, the new NBA season is scheduled to tip off Dec. 22.

The Golden State Warriors were granted a $9.3 million disabled player exception Wednesday because of Klay Thompsons season-ending Achilles injury, according to Shams Charania of the Athletic.

That money, which is based on the price of a mid-level exception player, allows the Warrior to sign a replacement player without a salary cap penalty.

The news comes on the same day Thompson had successful surgery on his ruptured Achilles tendon, per ESPNs Adrian Wojnarowski.

After one of the unlikelier rises to NBA stardom during his time with the Miami Heat, Hassan Whiteside is headed back to where his NBA career started.

The former Portland Trail Blazers center has agreed to a one-year deal with the Sacramento Kings, according to ESPNs Adrian Wojnarowski.

The deal is for the veterans minimum, according to NBC Sports Bay Areas James Ham.

Story continues

Whiteside began his career with the Kings back in 2010 when the team drafted him 33rd overall. He eventually left the team after averaging 1.5 points per game in sporadic action, and spent stints playing in the G League, Lebanon and China before the Heat took a flier on him.

From there, Whiteside broke out and won rebounding and blocks titles, eventually receiving a four-year, $98 million deal. He spent last season with the Portland Trail Blazers, leading the league in blocks and offensive rebounds.

With the Kings, Whiteside figures to fill out a big man rotation that also includes Marvin Bagley and Richaun Holmes.

The Phoenix Suns are bringing back Dario Saric on a three-year, $27 million deal, Sarics agents told ESPNs Adrian Wojnarowski on Monday.

Saric, 26, has spent just one season with the Suns, averaging 10.7 points and 6.2 rebounds. He blossomed in the NBA bubble, helping the Suns to an 8-0 record by averaging 14.8 points and 7.6 rebounds He also shot 57.4% from the field, including 52.4% from 3-point range.

The Los Angeles Lakers traded center JaVale McGee to the Cleveland Cavaliers on Sunday afternoon, according to ESPNs Adrian Wojnarowski.

The Cavaliers will also get a future second-round draft pick. In exchange, the Cavs sent Jordan Bell and Alfonzo McKinnie to Los Angeles.

The deal, per Wojnarowski, will help the team in its quest to sign veteran big man Marc Gasol. That two-year deal is reportedly being finalized.

McGee averaged 6.6 points and 5.7 rebounds per game last season while helping the Lakers to their 17th franchise title. The 32-year-old is preparing to enter his 13th season in the league, and the Cavaliers will mark his seventh team.

Gasol, 35, averaged 7.5 points and 6.3 rebounds with the Toronto Raptors last season his 12th in the league. He was initially drafted by the Lakers, but was traded to Memphis instantly. His brother, Pau, played for the Lakers for more than six seasons, too.

The Minnesota Timberwolves sent both forward Omari Spellman and guard Jacob Evans to the New York Knicks on Sunday afternoon, according to ESPNs Adrian Wojnarowski.

In exchange, the Timberwolves received forward Ed Davis and a future second-round draft pick.

The Timberwolves acquired both Spellman and Evans in a trade with the Golden State Warriors earlier this season that swapped DAngelo Russell and Andrew Wiggins. Spellman averaged 7.6 points and 4.5 rebounds per game last season with the Warriors, while Evans averaged 4.4 points and 1.4 rebounds in 29 games.

Davis, 31, averaged 1.8 points and 3.8 rebounds last year with the Utah Jazz, his 10th season in the league. He was traded to the Knicks last week.

The New York Knicks have signed shooting guard Austin Rivers to a three-year, $10 million deal, ESPNs Adrian Wojnarowski reports. The move adds needed backcourt depth in New York.

Rivers, 28, averaged 8.8 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.7 assists off the bench for the Houston Rockets last season. The eight-year NBA veteran will join his fifth team in New York.

The Milwaukee Bucks may have failed in their attempt to land Bogdan Bogdanovic in free agency, but they secured deals with two of the more underrated players on the market on Sunday.

In addition to striking deals with guard D.J. Augustin and Bobby Portis on Saturday, Milwaukee general manager Jon Horst agreed to terms with Bryn Forbes and Torrey Craig a day later, per ESPNs Adrian Wojnarowski. Horst revamped the rotation of a title contender behind two-time reigning MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, two-time All-Star Khris Middleton and newly acquired All-Star point guard Jrue Holiday.

Forbes, 27, averaged 11.2 points on 42/39/83 shooting splits in 25.1 minutes per game for the San Antonio Spurs last season. He signed in San Antonio as an undrafted free agent in 2016 and has steadily improved.

The 6-foot-7, 221-pound Craig, 29, was a versatile defensive specialist for the Denver Nuggets last season. He averaged 5.4 points (46/33/61 shooting splits) and 3.3 rebounds in 18.5 minutes, mostly off the bench.

Under pressure from star guards Damian Lillard and C.J. McCollum to improve the rotation around them, Portland Trail Blazers general manager Neil Olshey has been busy this offseason.

After acquiring Robert Covington and Enes Kanter via trades and re-signing forwards Rodney Hood and Carmelo Anthony, Olshey has agreed to a one-year deal with 22-year-old former prep phenom Harry Giles, according to ESPNs Adrian Wojnarowski. Giles is a low-risk and potentially high-reward signing.

Plagued by knee injuries in high school and college, Giles once the top player in his class fell to No. 20 in the 2017 draft and did not make his NBA debut until October 2018. He averaged 6.9 points (55.4 FG%, 77.6 FT%) and 4.1 rebounds in 14.5 minutes last season, mostly off the bench for the Kings.

The Golden State Warriors reached a one-year deal with Kent Bazemore, according to The Athletics Shams Charania. Bazemore, 31, played for the Warriors as a rookie in 2012-13 until being traded in February 2014.

Bazemore adds depth on the wing after the Warriors lost All-Star shooting guard Klay Thompson to a season-ending Achilles injury. Golden State also traded for Kelly Oubre Jr. on Thursday. He and Bazemore, who has a good relationship with Warriors star Stephen Curry, will be tasked with replacing Thompson.

Bazemore averaged 8.8 points (on 38/34/77 shooting splits) and 4.3 rebounds in 24.8 minutes over 68 games split between the Portland Trail Blazers and Sacramento Kings last season.

The Warriors are also among several teams pursuing veteran center Marc Gasol on the free-agency market, according to ESPNs Adrian Wojnarowski. The Toronto Raptors and both the Los Angeles Lakers and Clippers are also reportedly interested in the 35-year-old former Defensive Player of the Year.

The Los Angeles Clippers have reportedly found their Montrezl Harrell replacement.

Free agent big man Serge Ibaka agreed to a deal with the Clippers on Saturday, according to The Athletics Shams Charania.

The deal is a mid-level exception pact for two years and $19 million, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN. The second year of the deal will reportedly be a player option.

According to The New York Times Marc Stein, the team is also pursuing veteran center Marc Gasol.

In addition to Harrell, the Clippers also lost backup power forward JaMychal Green to the Denver Nuggets in free agency. The Clippers retained Marcus Morris in free agency and still have starting center Ivica Zubac.

Gasol would give the Clippers an older and likely cheaper center who would be a defensive plus on the teams second unit. He has also drawn reported interest from the Lakers, Raptors and Warriors. Ibaka has been more productive in recent years as he and Gasol split center duties in Toronto the past two years.

Per Stein, the Lakers are also in the market for another big man even with Harrell aboard, but face larger financial constraints.

As expected, the Golden State Warriors are trying to recoup some cap space lost with Klay Thompsons season-ending Achilles tear.

The team has applied for a $9.3 million Disabled Player Exception, according to The Athletics Shams Charania.

With the Warriors are hoping to return to the ranks of the NBA elite this season, that extra money should help fill out a roster with a gaping hole at shooting guard. The Warriors have reportedly acquired Kelly Oubre from the Oklahoma City Thunder (at great cost), and even more moves could be coming now.

Paul Millsaps tenure in Denver will continue for another year after agreeing to a one-year, $10 million deal with the Nuggets, according to Shams Charania.

The 35-year-old Millsap was one of three of big men in Denvers rotation to hit free agency this offseason, and he will be the only one to return after Jerami Grant and Mason Plumlee both signed with the Detroit Pistons.

In 24.3 minutes per game last season, Millsap averaged 11.6 points and 5.7 rebounds on .591 true shooting.

Millsap and Grant filled most of the minutes at power forward alongside Nikola Jokic last year. Now it appears that former Los Angeles Clippers forward JaMychal Green will fill Grants slot.

A New York Knicks roster that already had plenty of big men is getting one more.

Free agent center Nerlens Noel has agreed to a one-year, $5 million with New York, according to ESPNs Adrian Wojnarowski.

Noel has spent the last two seasons with the Oklahoma City Thunder, where he averaged 6.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.4 blocks in 15.8 minutes per game. Hell likely share minutes with the likes of Mitchell Robinson and Ed Davis.

Less than two hours after agreeing to a deal with Tristan Thompson, the Boston Celtics added another veteran in Jeff Teague on a one-year deal, per the Boston Globes Adam Himmelsbach.

Teague spent last year split between the Minnesota Timberwolves and Atlanta Hawks, averaging 10.9 points and 5.2 assists per game. In Boston, he will likely come off the bench in the backcourt behind Kemba Walker and Marcus Smart.

Rajon Rondo is leaving the Los Angeles Lakers. Rondo agreed to a two-year, $15 million deal with the Atlanta Hawks on Saturday, according to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports.

With the move, the Hawks have revamped their backcourt. The team also signed Kris Dunn to a two-year deal Saturday.

Rondo hinted his time with the Lakers was done in an Instagram post Saturday. Rondo thanked the organization and the fans in the post, and hinted he would be moving on.

Rondo, 34, averaged 7.1 points and 5 assists with the Lakers last season.

The Brooklyn Nets are bringing in veteran big man Jeff Green, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Green, 34, has reportedly agreed to a deal with the team, though details are scarce at this time.

Green spent last season with the Utah Jazz and Houston Rockets. He averaged 9.4 points and 2.8 rebounds.

The Orlando Magic have signed forward Gary Clark to a two-year, $4.1 million deal, according to ESPNs Adrian Wojnarowski.

Clark joined the Magic last season after getting released by the Houston Rockets. With Orlando, Clark averaged 3.6 points while playing 14.8 minutes per game.

The Phoenix Suns have reportedly signed Jae Crowder to a three-year, $30 million contract, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Crowder, 30, spent time with both the Memphis Grizzlies and Miami Heat last season. He averaged 10.5 points and 5.9 rebounds.

The Miami Heat have reportedly signed Avery Bradley to a two-year, $11.6 million deal Saturday, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Bradley, 29, spent last season with the Los Angeles Lakers. He averaged 8.6 points and 2.3 rebounds in 49 games with the team. After winning a championship with Los Angeles, Bradley will look to take home a second-straight title with the Heat, who made it to the NBA Finals last season.

The Milwaukee Bucks have reportedly signed forward Bobby Portis to a two-year deal, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Portis deal includes a player option for his second season.

Portis who was originally drafted in the first round of the 2015 NBA Draft by the Chicago Bulls spent last season with the New York Knicks. He averaged 10.1 points and 5.1 rebounds with the Knicks.

DeAnthony Melton is staying in Memphis. The guard reportedly agreed to a four-year, $35 million deal with the Memphis Grizzlies on Saturday, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Melton, 22, returns to Memphis after averaging 7.6 points and 2.9 assists with the team last season. The deal gives Melton the highest net salary from his draft class for the 2020-21 NBA season.

The Atlanta Hawks have reportedly signed Kris Dunn to a two-year deal, according to ESPNs Adrian Wojnarowski.

The deal is worth $10 million and contains a player option for a second season.

Dunn, 26, spent the last three seasons with the Chicago Bulls. He averaged 10.7 points and 5.1 assists per game in Chicago.

Maurice Harkless wants a shot at a championship. Harkless, 27, reportedly turned down more lucrative offers in order to sign a one-year deal with the Miami Heat, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Harkless deal with the Heat is worth $3.6 million. Harkless took the deal so he could re-enter free agency next season, when teams might have more money available to pay players.

Last season, Harkless averaged 5.8 points and 3.9 rebounds with the Los Angeles Clippers and New York Knicks.

Free-agent forward JaMychal Green is heading to the Denver Nuggets on a reported two-year, $15 million deal.

Green will help offset the loss of forward Jerami Grant, who has agreed to sign with the Pistons. Greens deal includes a second-year option.

Green spent the past two seasons with the Clippers. Last season he averaged 6.8 points and 6.2 rebounds and shot 38.7 percent from 3-point range, down from his 41.3 percent shooting from deep in 2018-19.

The Nuggets will be Greens fourth NBA team with previous stops with the Spurs (2014-15), Grizzlies (2015-19) and Clippers (2019-20).

Denzel Valentine is staying with the Chicago Bulls. Valentine reportedly signed his $4.7 million qualifying offer Saturday, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Valentine, who was selected by the team with the No. 14 overall pick of the 2016 NBA Draft, averaged 6.8 points and 2.1 rebounds last season.

Veteran guard Michael Carter-Williams apparently enjoyed his time in Orlando. Carter-Williams reportedly agreed to return to the Orlando Magic on Saturday, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Carter-Williams spent the past season and a half in Orlando, where he averaged 6.8 points and 3.6 rebounds with the franchise. Carter-Williams has also spent time in Charlotte, Chicago, Houston, Milwaukee and Philadelphia over his career.

The New Orleans Pelicans have acquired big man Steven Adams in a four-team trade, according to ESPNs Adrian Wojnarowski.

Adams, 27, will head to New Orleans in exchange for George Hill, Darius Miller and two 2023 draft picks. Both the Milwaukee Bucks and Denver Nuggets have been looped into the trade, which is part of the same deal that sent Jrue Holiday to the Bucks.

Adams averaged 10.9 points and 9.3 rebounds last season.

With Gordon Hayward on his way out of Boston, the Celtics forward reportedly has one destination in mind. And its a familiar one.

Hayward is focused on reaching a deal with the Indiana Pacers in the neighborhood of four years and $100 million, according to The New York Times Marc Stein. That would require a sign-and-trade deal between Boston and Indiana. Per The Boston Globes Gary Washburn, Pacers center Myles Turner would be part of a potential return package, but the two teams are at odds regarding additional compensation.

Hayward was born and raised in the state of Indiana and attended Butler, so this would represent a homecoming for the 30-year-old.

Hayward has also drawn interest from the New York Knicks, according to Stein. They could sign him into cap space without having to send sign-and-trade compensation back to the Celtics. According to ESPNs Adrian Wojnarowski, the door on the former All-Star forward returning to Boston also is not fully closed.

A solid big man is getting a solid contract in San Antonio.

Free agent center Jakob Poeltl has agreed to a three-year, $27 million deal to return to the San Antonio Spurs, according to Shams Charania.

Part of the Spurs return in the Kawhi Leonard trade, Poeltl has been a dependable big man in his two years with the team. The former ninth overall pick has averaged 5.6 points and 5.5 rebounds per game, shooting 62.4 percent from the field and delivering strong defense in the paint.

Two of the NBAs three Holiday brothers will be sticking together.

Free-agent wing Justin Holiday will return to the Indiana Pacers on a three-year, $18 million deal, according to The Athletics Shams Charania. His brother Aaron Holiday is still on his rookie contract with the Pacers.
