World War 3: Putin deploys ‘kill all’ missile system and points it at North Korea – Daily Star

Posted: June 15, 2017 at 7:31 am

VLADIMIR PUTIN has deployed his "matchless" missile system to Kim Jong-un's border defend against attacks as World War 3 looks imminent.

The Buk-M3 is the most advanced anti-missile system in the world, according to Moscow.

The move is seen as a deliberate effort to stem the tide of North Korean aggression which resulted in a number of successful nuke tests over the last few weeks.

Putin has previously expressed "profound concern" over Kim's recent missile launches.

Reports said the deployment was "a precaution due to the situation in the Korean peninsula escalates".

Expert Vasily Kashin, from the Institute of the Far East, said: "Re-arming the air missile defence brigade in Ulan-Ude will become another guarantee in case of escalation in the Korean peninsula.

"The brigade can be relocated further east and used to cover administrative and industrial centres from possible missile or aviation attack."

The Buk-M3 is seen as countering cruise missiles, ballistic missiles, aircrafts and helicopters, and this is its first deployment in the east of the country.

Training will go on for two months after which the Buk-M3 "will be fully prepared for combat missions".

Kim has previously promised "weekly" missile tests in the face of US aggression in the peninsula.

And the tubby tyrants persistence with the North Korean nuclear programme has led to international condemnation from world leaders, including Putin.

Kremlin newspaper Rossiyskaya Gazeta said: "The Buk-M3 can fire 20 seconds after stopping. In fact, it almost fires on the move.

Putin has an arsenal of state-of-the-art weaponry at his fingertips. Could this be the hardware that wages WW3?

"A transporter-loader vehicle from which it can also be fired, simultaneously carries 12 launch containers with missiles.

"The Buk-M3 is able to destroy strategic and tactical aviation aircraft, helicopters, cruise missiles, guided aircraft bombs, and other flying objects.

"It can fire at surface and ground radio-contrast targets, that is, to be used as a tactical guided missile."

While Ulan-Ude is some 2,130 miles west from the Russian border with North Korea, experts say the Buk-M3 can be swiftly relocated in the even of rising tensions.

DefCon level REDUCED to SAFEST rank despite North Korea WW3 threat – Express.co.uk

Posted: at 7:31 am

GETTY

The lowered threat level comes despite continued tensions in the Korean peninsula between the hermit state of the North and the United States and South Korea.

The DefCon Warning System is a private intelligence organisation which has monitored and assessed nuclear threats against the US by national entities for more than 33 years.

According to reports on the site, South Korea has not expressed any desire for war with its neighbouring country, causing the United States to re-evaluate its plans for the region.

The statement added the public should make their own evaluations and not rely on the DefCon Warning System for strategic planning, adding all citizens should learn what steps to take in the effect of a nuclear attack.

North Korea has repeatedly flouted United Nations and international sanctions to test a range of long-range ballistic missiles - with experts claiming the despot nation could potentially launch a missile test every two weeks for the rest of the year.

Last months launch of the Hwasong-12 rocket is believed to have had the capability of reaching the US mainland.

The ground-to-ground medium-to-long range ballistic missile

Only last week, the reclusive state fired what appeared to be several land-to-ship missiles off its east coast, just one day after the South Korean military postponed full deployment of a controversial US anti-missile system designed - THAAD - to deter a North Korean attack.

Compared to the different types of ballistic missiles Pyongyang has tested in recent months, the missiles launched last week are considered to be more defensive in nature, designed to defend against threats such as enemy warships.

In recent weeks, a US expert claimed that Kim Jong-un is only one step away from developing a nuclear-tipped intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), to which the Trump administrations head of missile defence expressed great concern.

North Korea has stated that it has accomplished high precision in newest missile test, which if true, would mark significant progress in the countrys ballistic programme.

Tensions in the Korean peninsula have been running high for weeks, with Washington refusing to rule out a military strike against the dictatorship in response to any attacks.

North Korea has carried out five nuclear tests in the last 11 years and is widely believed to be making progress towards its dream of building a missile capable of delivering a warhead to the continental US.

GETTY

Since assuming office, Kim Jong-un greatly increased the number of tests he authorised from eight in 2012, to an averaged total of 15.3 tests per year up to 2016.

Each Spring, the regime raises the tone of its warnings in response to joint exercises carried out by Washington and Seoul.

The regime has condemned these military exercises, accusing them of being rehearsals for an invasion.

WW3 FEARS: Kim Jong-un could launch missile strike on New Zealand, warns minister – Express.co.uk

Posted: June 12, 2017 at 8:20 pm

GETTY

Just 6,350 miles south of the hermit kingdom, Foreign Affairs Minister Gerry Brownlee admitted they feared a missile could be sent their way from their belligerent neighbour.

Their concerns have escalated after it emerged the brutal regime, headed by despotic leader Kim, have developed a weapon powerful enough to reach the US and also New Zealand.

Mr Brownlee said: "When you think about the range they're able to get now, that puts a lot of pressure on countries like Japan and China and parts of Russia.

"If they ever get to a point where they can hit the continental USA, then they'll also be able to hit us.

Reuben Teo / mediadrumworld.com

"US President Donald Trump has said the world will never see North Korea reach the final stage of developing nuclear weapons that could reach the US, but recent strategic weapon tests have proved the country is not far away from testing an ICBM.

Pyongyang fired the ballistic Hwasong-12 missile last month, reaching an altitude of 1,312 miles.

GETTY

While the regime hailed it as a success, that claim was later backed up by South Korea and US officials who confirmed it could have hit American soil.

In response the US carried out the first test of a missile defence system against an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) able to intercept a missile from North Korea.

GETTY

This guy is irrational

Gerry Brownlee

And adding to fears, Mr Browlee highlighted the volatile and unstable nature of its portly leader, Kim Jong-un, who often sets unrealistic targets on his malnourished and impoverished citizens.

He said: This guy is irrational. He's nuts and not a sort of person that you'd want to have with a finger anywhere near the trigger of a nuclear weapon.

"It's an awful situation there, you've got a complete nutter running the place.

"Bear in mind here there's millions of people in North Korea living on the edge of starvation.

"We've made a small contribution over the years to the food and support for those people.

GETTY

But if there's any doubt about whether it's funding the nuclear programme, we're dealing with that by stopping the funding."

There are fears North Korea could imminently test-fire another missile, following the pattern seen over the past few months.

Will Thucydides’ Trap lead to World War 3? – The Sunday Guardian

Posted: June 11, 2017 at 5:21 pm

LONDON: Where do you think World War 3 (WW3) will start? Probably not in Europe, even though there are tensions in the Ukraine and on the borders of the Baltic states. President Vladimir Putin is using these areas to scratch away at NATO and in the case of Ukraine, to prevent the further expansion of this defence treaty, which will celebrate its 70th birthday in two-years time. Putin has nothing to gain from attacking the Baltic states and the Crimea will remain a permanent part of Russia. Provided the West recognises these facts and Kiev agrees to some form of federation within Ukraine, Putin will scale down his support for the rebels in the east, which will de-escalate tensions in the area. Nor will WW3 start in the troublesome Middle East, whose problems are likely to fester without a solution for years to come. Only if President Donald Trump cancels the Iranian nuclear deal, will tensions there rise even further. As Syria approaches the messy endgame in its civil war, Turkey, Iran and the Kurds are hovering over recaptured land from ISIS, like vultures over a carcase and will re-draw the ill-fated line in the sand created by the Sykes-Picot agreement in 1916. Russia will be satisfied with an enlarged naval base in Tartus and a greatly expanded airbase in Latakia as a reward for supporting the Bashar al-Assad regime, which will remain beholden to it. These bases will provide Putin with a useful counterbalance to NATO in its south-eastern flank, lost when the Soviet Union collapsed more than 25 years ago. Nor will WW3 break out over the crazy nuclear antics of North Korea. The recently increased sanctions by China give a useful clue to the seriousness with which they consider the threat of the nuclear build-up by Kim Jong-un. China could solve this problem at any time they wish, as the regime of Jong-un would collapse without its assistance. No, the most likely scenario for WW3 is over the sovereignty of the South China Sea (SCS).

Consider a few facts. Some $6 trillion of trade passes through the SCS every year. According to the US Energy Information Administration, there are $11 billion barrels of oil and $190 trillion cubic feet of gas in the SCS. At the present time, more than half of the tonnage of world crude oil transported by sea passes through the SCS, with thousands of merchant and fishing vessels using it every day. If you take a look at a geopolitical map of the region, you will see a number of overlapping areas of the SCS which show the various claims of sovereignty by six neighbouring countries. Dotted within these areas are numerous islands, reefs and banks, many of which are not only claimed, but also occupied by the awakened giant in the area, the Peoples Republic of China (PRC). Over the past few years, the PRC has dredged and reclaimed thousands of acres in the SCS, building artificial islands, on which they have constructed such infrastructure as runways, radar facilities, support buildings and loading piers. From these the PRC has the potential to boost their power projection over the entire area, well into the Bay of Bengal, by deploying aircraft, warships and offensive missiles. Recent satellite imagery of the Subi and Fiery Cross Reef of the Spratley Islands, which are also claimed by Malaysia, the Philippines, Vietnam and Taiwan, shows advanced Chinese military facilities which are now active.

In 2011, the PRC, Brunei, Malaysia, the Philippines and Vietnam agreed to a set of preliminary guidelines, which would help to resolve the dispute over sovereignty of the SCS. This covered the normal maritime activity such as safety of navigation, communications and search and rescue, but left the issue of oil and natural gas exploration unresolved. The latter was tested by India when its state-run explorer, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) signed an agreement with PetroVietnam to carry out exploration in certain blocks of the SCS claimed by Vietnam. This was denounced by PRC in a statement which began China enjoys indisputable sovereignty over the SCS and islands. This emphatic response was later backed up by the Chinese President Xi Jinping when he stated We are strongly committed to safeguarding the countrys sovereignty and security, and defending our territorial integrity, the latter referring to the newly created islands. In the northern SCS, often referred to as the East China Sea (ECS), lie the Diaoyu/Senkakus islands, over which China and Japan have been in dispute since the Sino-Japanese war of 1894. Provocations against Japans sovereign sea and land are continuing, but they must not be tolerated, said Japans Prime Minister Shinzo Abe recently, referring to these islands. The hard line approach by the PRC over much of both the SCS and ECS could trigger not only armed conflict with its neighbours, but also the United States, through the latters military alliances and commitments with its allies, Japan and the Philippines. In February this year, the US sailed a carrier group on what they called routine operations through the SCS, during which time they were tailed by Chinese vessels as they surveilled the man-made islands, ignoring Beijings warnings not to challenge its sovereignty in the strategic waterways. The Pentagon issued a statement that the US Navy had been doing these operations for many years and would continue to do so. Defense Secretary James Mattis, a staunch believer in President Trumps Peace through Strength policy, is likely to abandon the previous administrations policy of seeking to avoid upsetting China. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson also weighed in on the dispute, promising that the US would block China from further militarising the islands. This is a potentially explosive scenario, which could lead to conflict on a grand scale between an established world power and one which is rapidly developing into an equivalent world power.

Almost two and a half thousand years ago, a similar dilemma resulted in the Peloponnesian War of 411 BC, which devastated Greece. At the time, Sparta (read US) became fearful of a rising power Athens (read China), which made war inevitable. The Athenian historian, Thucydides, recounted this war which engulfed his homeland, the city-state of Athens, and since then it has been called Thucydides Trap, a phenomenon which has occurred no less than 16 times, according to some historians, when an established world power was challenged by a rising one and major miscalculations were made. In his 2015 essay in the Atlantic, the renowned historian Professor Graham Allison, argued that this historical metaphor provides the best lens available for illuminating relations between China and the US today. During their 2015 summit, Presidents Barack Obama and Xi Jinping discussed the Trap at length. Both being aware of the dangers, it was re-assuring that they concluded that the two countries are capable of managing their disagreements. However, since then a new player has arrived on the scene, one who is committed to making America great again. President Trump, having fired up populist nationalist support, could well dress himself in Spartan robes (particularly if they were made of gold) and see China as Athens. Unless the US and China can avoid conflict as effectively as did the US and the USSR during four decades of the Cold War, there is the possibility that Thucydides Trap could be enacted for the 17th time in the form of WW3.

Although this scenario appears to be as unlikely as it would be unwise, we are currently commemorating the centenary of another example of the Trap, which resulted in the folly of the First World War. It is well to keep in mind the words of the Spanish philosopher, George Santayana, Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it.

John Dobson worked in UK Prime Minister John Majors Office between 1995 and 1998 and is presently a consultant in the private sector.

‘No one will survive’ Russian president Vladimir Putin in chilling nuclear war confession – Daily Star

Posted: June 7, 2017 at 5:29 pm

RUSSIAN president Vladimir Putin has revealed his chilling belief everyone will die if the world is plunged into nuclear war.

The bombastic leader made the shock confession as the globe is on the brink of all-out conflict.

North Korea and its tyrant leader Kim Jong-un are building up their nuclear weapons in defiance of international law and the US and Russia are at loggerheads over the Syria conflict.

Speaking on a new US documentary The Putin Interviews due to be released next week, Putin said US President Donald Trump would not win if war broke out.

I dont think anyone would survive such a conflict

I dont think anyone would survive such a conflict, Putin told US film director Oliver Stone.

Relations between Russia and the US are at the lowest ebb since the Cold War but Putin isnt too hopeful of this turning around.

There is always hope. Until they are ready to bring us to the cemetery and bury us, Putin added.

Putin has an arsenal of state-of-the-art weaponry at his fingertips. Could this be the hardware that wages WW3?

The preview also featured a clip of the president in his military situation room.

He showed the camera a video feed from a Russian military jet in Syria.

The bald president then decries that NATO is an instrument of US foreign policy.

SHOWTIME

Once a country becomes a NATO member, it is hard to resist the pressures of the US, he said.

And all of a sudden any weapons system can be placed in this country.

An anti-ballistic missile system, new military bases and if need be, new offensive systems.

As tensions between NATO and Russia escalate, 4,000 soldiers have turned up on Putin's doorstep to show him what he'd be messing with

Russia is forced to take countermeasures over the ever-increasing NATO threat and armed military build-up on Russias borders, Putin claims.

We have to aim our missile systems at facilities that are threatening us. The situation becomes more tense, Putin said.

How to Handle a Pushy Mother-In-Law without Starting WW3 – eMaxHealth

Posted: at 5:29 pm

I recently heard a young woman lament that it was going to be her daughters first birthday and her mother-in-law wanted the other children to get presents and the traditional first birthday smash cake too, even though it was not their birthday. Her rationale was so they wouldnt feel left out or be upset over a one-year-old baby getting attention.

Well I think that really says it all.

It may sound like a minor thing but turning one happens only once in a lifetime and its a milestone. Turning one used to be a huge thing because many kids died before they reached their first birthday.

So, I dont think its too much to ask for that day to be special for the child whose birthday is being celebrated.

Children are egocentric but they can understand it's not always supposed to be about them and they can be taught respect even at a very young age. If you don't begin early taking these opportunities to teach life lessons you are either going to create selfish children or set a precedent that every other special occasion means they have to be part of the limelight or get presents. Either way you're doing a disservice to the children. Chances are since the mother-in-law already anticipates a problem she's behaved this way in the past and had used bribery to pacify a tantrum. Better to be honest and take the opportunity as a teaching lesson.

Daughter and mother-in-law relationships are often adversarial. The mother-in-law is probably used to making decisions regarding her son or at least having influence and often feels it is still her right even after her son is married.

Daughter-in-laws and sometimes sons dont want to rock the boat and would rather just try to keep the peace, but there comes a time and place when a gentle reminder is appropriate.

Voicing a preference can be an assertive action rather than an aggressive or passive-aggressive one. Take the high road.

In the case of the young mom trying to throw a special party for her one-year-olds birthday this suggestion is worth a try.

Deliver the message with love (even if youre not feeling it) at the moment. Try to muster a little feel good emotion and keep the focus simple then say, "I understand that it would be cute for the kids to all smash the cakes, but this is a special birthday celebration, and I would prefer for there to be only one smash cake. Thanks for understanding."

Now you've turned the tables and done it nicely.

You cant really control any other action such as her giving the other children presents rather than teaching them how to focus on someone else without having a meltdown or having to get presents to avoid a selfish display, but you can ask that the attention for the day be on your child. As a grandmother she should understand even if shes used to running the show.

As to presents most people have party favors so you can give small items such as hats or noisemakers without taking the focus away from the birthday girl or boy.

If the mother-in-law still doesnt get it after you've done everything you can and you are feeling magnanimous, suggest perhaps having cupcakes for the girls to take home and smash at grandmas house and be sure when you make that suggestion you do it with love and a HUGE smile! Then hand the cupcakes in little boxes to the kids and say, "have fun smashing these at grandma's!"

I think your mother-in-law will get the point.

North Korea WW3: Japan prepares for EVACUATION after missile tests – Daily Star

Posted: June 5, 2017 at 7:38 am

NORTH KOREAS latest missile tests have forced Japan to undergo evacuation drills with over fears of an impending attack.

Kim Jong-uns tyrannical state fired an unidentified warhead last week which fell close to the neighbouring country.

Days after on Sunday (June 4) hundreds of residents from a small Japanese coastal town took part to simulate a ballistic missile strike.

The town of Abu which faces the Sea of Japan is surrounded by the Yamaguchi prefecture range, which host a major US Marine Corps air station.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un looks on during a ballistic rocket test-fire

North Koreas long-running tension with the West hit new levels on Friday after a US official claimed the country does not have the capability to stop Kims deadly missiles.

John F. Tierny executive director of the Centre for Arms Control and Non-Proliferation said the system aimed to intercept nuclear bombs has failed to destroy its target three out of the last five attempts.

Kim is also providing a new threat with claims he has an army of 6,000 hackers ready to gain access into Western computer systems.

North Korea WW3: US official claims defences ‘can’t stop Kim Jong un’s nukes’ – Daily Star

THE US will not be able to stop a North Korean nuke, an official has claimed.

John F. Tierney, executive director of the Centre for Arms Control and Non-Proliferation, believes the US may not currently have the capability to stop Kim Jong-un's deadly missiles.

Donald Trump successfully tested a system aimed at intercepting nukes from North Korea in the Californian desert this week.

But Tierney warned that, despite the success, the US is not bulletproof.

Six tests have failed to destroy the target, including three of the last five tries

"Of the 10 tests of the system since 2004, when the Bush administration prematurely declared it operational, six have failed to destroy the target, including three of the last five tries," he wrote in the New York Times.

"The timing and other details are provided in advance, information that no real enemy would provide. The weather and time of day are just right for an intercept.

"An adversary would use complex countermeasures, such as decoys, alongside the real missile to try to fool the defence system, but only simplistic versions of this trick have been included.

Kim has promised "weekly" tests in the face of US aggression and recently carried out North Korea's largest nuke test ever.

In response, Trump has despatched his "armada" led by the USS Carl Vinson to the peninsula.

Trump has also vowed to keep developing his nuclear missile defence programme.

But Tierney warned that a peaceful solution is the only way to end the North Korean crisis.

"If lawmakers are serious about defending the homeland from rogue states like North Korea, they should prioritise diplomatic action," he added.

"Expanding the programme before it is proved to be effective under realistic conditions would mark the height of irresponsibility.

"The Missile Defence Agency might be celebrating now, but the latest test is at best a small step forward on a very long journey."

The Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system battery was initially deployed in March in the southeastern region of Seongju.

The missile defence system was installed with two of its maximum load of six launchers to counter a growing North Korean missile threat.

Japan calls for action amid WW3 fears as North Korea launches another missile – Express.co.uk

Posted: May 30, 2017 at 2:39 pm

Shinichi Iida, Minister for public diplomacy at the Japanese Embassy, called for an end to dialogue for dialogue's sake after the missile entered Japanese waters.

He said country was very concerned by the provocation, as the missile flew about 280 miles (450km) before landing in the Japanese exclusive economic zone, within the Sea of Japan.

HetoldSky News: We are very much concerned with yet another provocation by North Korea.

North Korea has conducted nuclear tests twice and has launched more than 30 ballistic missiles in just over a year.

It is obviously causing a very serious threat, not only to the region but also to the entire world.

GETTY SKY

In that sense, it is quite significant that the G7 Summit that was held in Italy a couple of days ago, leaders agreed on the fact that North Korea is a first priority issue for international security.

Mr Iida said China needed to assert its influence on the rogue nation, under the control over Kim Jong-un, to halt the tests and to abolish its nuclear and ballistic missile programme.

He said: Prime Minister Shinz Abe and President Donald Trump had a very good meeting and they agreed that Japan-US cooperation, and also with South Korea, is critically important.

China also agreed it should play a larger role in light of the fact that 90per centof North Koreas trade is with China.

I think it is quite important to recognise that after 22 years of endeavour to make the North Koreans halt their nuclear and ballistic missile programme, it simply hasnt worked out.

Under the current circumstances, dialogue for dialogue sake doesnt carry much meaning

Shinichi Iida

Under the current circumstances, dialogue for dialogue sake doesnt carry much meaning.

I think it is important to keep up the pressure on North Korea, that is a very important aspect that everybody should understand.

Mr Iida added for the UNs sanctions against the hermit state to have its intended effect, North Koreas foreign currency revenues need to be cut.

He said: The Untied Nations Security Council has been passing very strong resolutions, again and again, to demand North Korea to abolish its nuclear programme and ballistic missile systems and it has been sanctioning North Korea.

And the most important element for the economic sanctions authorised by the Security Council towork,is to cut the foreign currency revenues of North Korea.

The ground-to-ground medium-to-long range ballistic missile

China can play a very critical role in convincing, in asserting its influence over North Korea and convince it over the need to immediately abandon its nuclear programme and abolish its ballistic missile programme.

Jong-uns launched the Scud missile from the eastern region of Wonsan, after a series of test-launches of missiles in recent weeks.

The launch was immediately reported to South Korea's president Moon Jae-in, who called a meeting of the National Security Council at 7.30am local time (10.30pm GMT), the country's office of the Joint Chiefs of Staff said.

Yoshihide Suga, Japans chief cabinet secretary, said: This ballistic missile launch by North Korea is highly problematic from the perspective of the safety of shipping and air traffic and is a clear violation of United Nations Security Council resolutions.

"Japan absolutely cannot tolerate North Korea's repeated provocative actions. We have strongly protested to North Korea and condemn its actions in the strongest terms.

No damage to planes or ships has been detected.
