How China could wipe out 12million with nuclear submarines capable of striking US cities amid WW3 Taiwan… – The US Sun

Posted: October 15, 2021 at 8:52 pm

CHINA once chillingly boasted its nuclear submarines could strike the US, wipe out four cites, and kill 12million people.

And its shameful brag is more terrifying than ever as the world waits with bated breath to see if the communist state will invade Taiwan.

4

China attacking the small separatist island could potentially set the dominoes falling for a conflict that could spiral into World War 3.

US forces have pledged to defend Taiwan, even as last week Chinese leader Xi Jinping insisted he would have his way and succeed in "reunification".

And a full scale conflict would likely become nuclear, with experts warning The Sun Online that humanity is on the "precipice of war".

China is also believed to have been quietly upgrading their distinctive "humpback" submarines - the Type 094 Jin - to make them harder to detect.

Each potentially packing 12 of China's latest "Big Wave" nuclear missiles into their distinctive "hump", the nuclear-powered boats are a weapon pointed squarely at one enemy - the US.

Communist Party officials made this clear with a series of disturbing and brazen boasts about the submarines - and how they would be used in a war with Washington - in state media back in 2013.

The twisted article - alongside a nuke map fantasizing about a strike on Los Angeles - was included in a dossier compiled by the US-China Economic Security Review Commission, an agency tasked with monitoring Beijing.

The report notes that the Jin submarines give China the ability to strike against Alaska, Hawaii and the West Coast from deep in the Pacific, or to hit "all 50 US states" if launched from east of Honolulu.

And in the article published in a Communist Party newspaper hailing the "humpback" subs, four cities are named as "main soft targets".

They were Seattle, Los Angeles, San Francisco and San Diego - which have a combined total population of 7.7million.

And perhaps expanding out the destructive power of the Jin to other cities, the article boasted just one vessel could "could cause the destruction of five million to 12 million people".

To increase the destructive effect, the main soft targets for nuclear destruction in the United States will be the main cities on the west coast, such as Seattle, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and San Diego

"There is not a dense population in the United States mid west region, so to increase the destructive effect, the main soft targets for nuclear destruction in the United States will be the main cities on the west coast, such as Seattle, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and San Diego," it said.

Alongside the feature ran a graphic displaying the devastation of five warheads dropping from one missile on the city of Los Angeles.

The five strikes are focused on downtown - potentially maximising the loss of life.

NUKEMAP - a tool developed by historian Alex Wellerstein - predicts just one Chinese nuke dropped on LA could kill some 2.1million people.

And it estimates within the first day after the strike, there would be nearly 400,000 fatalities in the City of Angels and almost 650,000 injuries - with the rest of the deaths coming from radiation, injury and societal collapse.

4

Chinese state media is often seen as the unfiltered mouthpiece of the Communist Party, striking a more fiery tone even as the regime attempts to be more measured in its rhetoric.

Last week one of China's leading newspapers threatened to "strike any time" on US troops which were revealed to be training soldiers in Taiwan.

The US has always pledged to defend the island from China.

Taiwan insists it is an independent nation after splitting from mainland China in 1949 - something that has always enraged the Communist Party.

More than100 fighter jets entered Taiwanese airspacein just three days last week, sparking fears that Beijing could soon launch a full scale attack - with one Taiwanese official predicting a full scale invasion by 2025.

China is believed to have been preparing for a total war situation against the US - while Washington has been bogged down with small scale insurgencies in the Middle East.

Meanwhile, some analysts have suggested that China could find itself in a Vietnam War-esque conflict should it invade Taiwan.

Barbara Kelemen, Associate and the lead intelligence analyst for Asia at security intelligence firm Dragonfly, believes some type of Chinese military action against the island is becoming a realistic prospect.

She told The Sun Online: "Some type of Chinese military action against, or affecting, Taiwan is becoming a more realistic prospect.

"This is because the US has taken several steps to strengthen its relationship with the island.

"US President Bidens latest actions seem to indicate that he sees supporting Taiwan as a pillar of a broader geopolitical strategy to counter Chinas growing power in Asia, and his stance has been interpreted by Beijing as being increasingly aggressive."

4

4

Among the potential scenarios, Ms Kelemen said China could move to seize outlying islands either in the Strait or South China Sea as well as carrying out cyber attacks on critical state infrastructure.

And previously, Sam Armstrong, of the Henry Jackson Society, told The Sun Online relations between Washington andBeijinghave "never been worse".

He said: "What China is doing right now is irresponsible, its dangerous and it threatens to spill over from what is a localized conflict into a massive and deadly armed war.

"The very real risk of conflict isnt just a threat in or around Taiwan, but to the people living in the US, its allies, and Europe.

He added: "The moment that China makes a nuclear threat, the world is standing at the precipice of a nuclear war.A conflict between China and the United States would be the mostdevastating conflictweve ever seen.

China is also focused on ramping up its nuclear weapons arsenal - with its own arsenal of around 350 weapons dwarfed tenfold by the US stockpile of 3,750.

The Communist regime is also busy constructing nearly 300 new nuclear missile silos, while it is thought to possess around 320 nuclear warheads,

Meanwhile, top Chinese diplomatSha Zukang says China must make the first nuclear strike against the US if Joe Biden continues to defend Taiwan.

In another article, Hu Xijin, the editor of theGlobal Times, said "the number of China's nuclear warheads must reach the quantity that makes US elites shiver".

"We must be prepared for an intense showdown between China and the US,.

"In that scenario,a large number of Dongfeng-41, and JL-2 and JL-3 (both intercontinental-range submarine-launched ballistic missile) will form the pillar of our strategic will.

"The number of Chinas nuclear warheads must reach the quantity that makes US elites shiver should they entertain the idea of engaging in a military confrontation with China."

Last month UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned humanity was on the brink of "nuclear annihilation" with the threat reaching its highest boiling point in forty years.

He urged nations that have "stockpiled nearly 14,000 nuclear weapons" to sign the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty to avoid an international crisis.

China sparks WW3 fears as Taiwan vows never to bow to Beijing in island dispute… – The US Sun

Posted: at 8:52 pm

TAIWANS president has vowed to never bow to China after threats of "World War Three" appeared in a Chinese communist regime controlled newspaper.

Speaking on Taiwans national day, Tsai Ing-wen ruled out the idea that the island would agree to be "subordinate" to Beijing, the day after President Xi Xi Jinping insisted the "historical task" of retaking the island must take place.

4

4

Taiwan's defiant stance comes asthe Chinese Communist regimes mouthpiece, The Global Times, issued a chilling warning to the US if it tried to protect the island.

It warned "once a war breaks out in the Taiwan Straits, those US military personnel will be the first to be eliminated".

But President Tsai said yesterday her countrys forces are ready to stop any invasion.

She said: "There should be absolutely no illusions that the Taiwanese people will bow to pressure

"We will continue to bolster our national defence and demonstrate our determination to defend ourselves in order to ensure that nobody can force Taiwan to take the path China has laid out for us."

She added: "The path that China has laid out offers neither a free and democratic way of life for Taiwan, nor sovereignty for our 23 million people."

Revealed

Following the address, Taiwan's Ministry of National Defence showed off a range of weaponry including missile launchers and armoured vehicles while fighter jets and helicopters soared overhead.

The show of air power was followed by a group of CM32 tanks, followed later by trucks carrying missile systems.

Last week it emerged Taiwan is developing a missile that can strike back at China should it attack.

The Yun Feng is able to hit major Chinese cities including the capital Beijing and news of its development comes as the island's President warned China was "playing with fire".

Taiwan broke away from China in 1949 but the Chinese ruling party regards the island as a "renegade state" and has repeatedly vowed to take it back by force if necessary by 2050.

There should be absolutely no illusions that the Taiwanese people will bow to pressure

A formal declaration of independence would be the likely trigger.

Any invasion would represent a serious escalation of hostilities and could drag in the US through its pact to defend Taiwan.

Washingtons regional allies such as South Korea, Japan and Australia could also be sucked into a conflict as would Nato forces such as the UK because the US is a member of the alliance.

Since September of last year, China has flown fighter jets more than 800 times towards Taiwan.

Since last Friday, China has sent a record-breaking number of fighter jets towards international airspace close to Taiwan.

Aliens tampered with nuclear weapons and could spark WW3, warns ex-US military chief – Daily Star

Posted: at 8:52 pm

The former top brass of US-military claim aliens came close to starting World War Three after they witnessed them tampering with nuclear weapons systems.

Former American Air Force chiefs are set to go on the record over worrying extraterrestrial incidents going back several decades.

They claim UFOs disabled weapons systems at nuclear bases and even started activating missiles by starting launch sequences before later shutting it down.

Former Air Force officer, Robert Salas, was the on-duty commander of an underground launch control facility assigned to Malmstrom Air Force Base in Montana on March 24, 1967.

He claims all ten of his intercontinental ballistic missiles became inoperable.

Just eight days earlier, on March 16, 1967, Salas claims a similar incident occurred at another missile launch control facility.

The incidents have left military leaders fearing a possible enemy attack by extraterrestrials.

The four former USAF captains will speak about these cases of UFO interference and reveal declassified government documents.

They will speak in hope of forcing the US Congress to investigate and hold public hearings into reports that UFOs have disabled nuclear weapons at military bases.

After successfully raising more than 10,000, Salas will stage a press conference at the National Press Club in Washington DC on October 19 to present the evidence to the world.

The bombshell news comes after UFOs were seen over Buckley Space Force base in Colorado, sparking claims ETs are watching.

Jason Suraci has filmed several strange orbs over the air-force base and posted them on his Youtube channel.

The objects appear to change shape while others are similar to the infamous 'Tic Tac' UFO, filmed by US Navy pilots.

Jason, who lives near the base, believes they are not man-made.

In one video clip posted on Instagram, Jason says: "This was a Tic Tac UFO I saw manifest then it shot into the clouds. This is not a drone or balloon or any kind of aircraft."

In June, the Pentagon released its UAP Task Force report which revealed 144 unexplained UFO encounters with the military including 'Tic Tac' shaped UFOs buzzing US warships and top gun pilots and did not rule out a possible alien origin.

The report, "Preliminary Assessment: Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP)", was released after US Congress passed a bill by the Trump administration which included a request for the Defence Department to publish a report to the Senate Intelligence Committee on UAPs.

The preliminary assessment was based on reports sent to the secretive UAP Task Force between 2004 and 2021.

The task force noticed UAP sightings tended to cluster around US training and testing grounds.

The report said some UFOs could be attributed to foreign technology developed by China or Russia or a non-government entity, but more analysis would be needed.

In response, the military will establish procedures to synchronize collection of data to study UFOs and make recommendations to military bases.

To read more out-of-this-world astronomical and alien news, why not subscribe to the Daily Star's Spaced Out newsletter.

In a letter to military chiefs, Deputy Secretary of Defence Kathleen Hicks said: "All members of the department will utilize these processes to ensure the UAPTF, or it's follow up activity, has reports of UAP observations within two weeks of an occurrence."

WW3 fears as US blocks radioactive fuel to China over fears Beijing wants to TRIPLE its nuke stockpile to… – The US Sun

Posted: October 7, 2021 at 4:33 pm

THE US has blocked radioactive fuel to China over fears Beijing wants to triple its nuke stockpile.

President Joe Biden's administration ordered the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to block exports to China on "national security" grounds, The Times reported.

5

5

The export of radioactive materials to China's state-owned nuclear company the China General Nuclear Power Group is now banned under the order.

It comes after Chinese state media called for a tripling of the nation's nuclear arsenal to fend off the "warmongering" US.

The Global Times - the newspaper of the ruling Communist Party, which has a circulation of 1.5million - published a fiery editorial last year in which it accused Washington of trying to stoke conflict with China.

Chinesemilitary officials were urged to increase the state's nuclear stockpile to 1,000 warheads, more than triple its current estimated size of around 300.

The newspaper - which is often seen as the unfiltered mouthpiece of Beijing - called for the increase to "deter potential impulsive military action by US warmongers".

Meanwhile China is busy building "at least 250 long range missile silos" in three locations sparking fears a new nuclear arms race is underway.

A third Chinese missile silo field in a remote area in Inner Mongolia has been reportedly been photographed by a European Space Agency satellite as Beijing launches its largest ever nuke expansion.

TheArms Control Associationsaid Beijings rapid nuclear buildup could significantly influence President Joe Biden's administrations up-and-coming Nuclear Posture Review, where it decides how many nukes it needs.

The campaign organisation has estimated at least 250 nuclear long-range nuclear missile silos at three locations.

US Air Force Lieutenant General Thomas Buseyre, deputy commander of the US Strategic Command, warned China is set to overtake Russia as America's main nuclear threat.

He told an online forum: "Theres going to be a point, a crossover point, where the number of threats posed by China will exceed the number of threats that Russia currently presents."

China slammed Britain and America for "aggravating an arms race" after the countries announced a historic security pact to build nuclear submarines for Australia.

The Communist regimes Washington DC embassy spokesman Liu Pengyu accused the nations of adopting a "Cold War mentality" like the terrifying nuke stand-off between the US and the Soviet Union in the 20th century.

The three countries' leaders unveiled thealliance dubbed AUKUS in what was seen as a move to counter China's rising might.

This comes amid raising tensions in disputed territories such as the South China Sea and Taiwan.

But Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said the agreement "seriously undermines regional peace and stability and intensifies the arms race".

He said: "The export of highly sensitive nuclear submarine technology by the United States and Britain to Australia once again proves that they use nuclear exports as a tool of geopolitical games and adopt double standards, which is extremely irresponsible."

He added that the deal gave regional countries "reason to question Australia's sincerity in abiding by its nuclear non-proliferation commitments".

He urged the Western allies to "abandon their outdated Cold War zero-sum thinking" or risk "shooting themselves in the foot".

China unveils deadly new anti-submarine drone that can wipe out US targets amid WW3 fears as Beijing… – The US Sun

Posted: September 29, 2021 at 7:16 am

CHINA has unveiled a lethal new anti-submarine drone that can wipe out US targets amid WW3 fears, as Beijing continues to bully Taiwan.

The CH-6 electronic attack vehicle will enable more precise surgical strikes on targets - especially in the South China Sea, warn military experts.

8

8

8

The CH-6 will bolster China's reconnaissance and attack capability against US and allied forces operating in the Indo-Pacific region, said one researcher.

One of two new drones unveiled at the countrys biggest air show in Zhuhai, the CH-6 can menace military targets across the Pacific with a barrage of missiles or snoop on American manoeuvres with the latest surveillance equipment, reported the Times.

The drone, developed by the state-run China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, can fly for 20 hours at an altitude of 50,000 ft, has a speed of 450mph and a range of about 9,000 miles.

Beijing News said the drone will carry traditional air-to-surface missiles and precision-guided bombs.

The CH-6, which has a wingspan of 20.5 metres and is 15 metres long, can also unleash small and medium-sized cruise missiles, and anti-radiation missiles.

Designed to boost China Air Forces strike ability and defensive tactics, the drone is expected to push the envelope in terms of attack range, the South China Morning Post reports.

It was one of two new drones revealed at the countrys biggest air show - amid China's increased military menacing of Taiwan, particularly from the sky.

The other aerial fighting tool was the WZ-7 high-altitude reconnaissance drone.

The WZ-7 is a high-altitude reconnaissance unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) designed to conduct missions including border reconnaissance and maritime patrols, China Central Television (CCTV) reported.

Previously known by its codename the 'Soar Dragon', it features a tandem-wing design, and is "extra-large" with an extended flight capability, a Chinese military expert told the Global Times.

The drone has a 24-metre wingspan and is 14-metre in length, making it one of China's largest drones, said the SCMP.

Drones such as the CH-6 and WZ-7 represent an improvement in [China's] ability to conduct more precise surgical strikes on targets.

Defence Blog described the WZ-7 as a high-altitude, long-endurance remotely piloted vehicle with a bizarre design.

It said: "Developed for long-endurance missions at high altitudes, the aircraft features an unusual tandem, joined wing platform.

"The operational WZ-7 is likely to be used for maritime surveillance of foreign bases and warships, as part of the anti-access/area denial kill chain

"Its long flight time and large sensor payload, in particular, could allow it to follow aircraft carriers, while vacuuming up a wealth of data, for extended periods of time."

Ridzwan Rahmat, principal defence analyst at Janes military news said: Drones such as the CH-6 and WZ-7 represent an improvement in [China's] ability to conduct more precise surgical strikes on targets that were previously unreachable given its lack of eyes in the skies'."

Malcolm Davis, a senior analyst specialising in Chinese security at the Australian Strategic Policy Institute in Canberra, said both drones would be heavily used to help control the South China Sea - which China claims it owns.

He told the SCMP that the WZ-7 and CH-6 would be used alongside Chinas other drone and autonomous systems, as well as piloted aircraft.

They would boost the "reconnaissance and attack capability against US and allied forces operating in the Indo-Pacific region.

They are platforms designed for forward intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, operating from high altitude, and are designed to detect and track US naval forces, cueing Chinas long-range strike capabilities to attack them," Davis added.

Their unveiling comes as Taiwan has vowed to arm itself with long-range missiles to defend against the severe threat from China amid World War Three fears.

The pledge comes after the Chinese air force made more than 500 incursions intoTaiwans air-defence identification zone so far in 2021, according to an official.

China treats the self-governing island democracy as a rebel region thatmust be reunited with the mainland- by force if necessary.

Taiwan has already this month proposed extra defence spending of almost $9 billion over the next five years.

Chinais rapidly developing its military systems to attack the island, Defence Minister Chiu Kuo-cheng warned on Monday.

Taiwan needs to have long-range, accurate weapons to properly deter its bullying neighbour, he added.

It intends buying new missiles, as it has warned of an urgent need to upgrade weapons in the face of a "severe threat" from its giant neighbour.

Chiu today told parliament that Taiwan needed to let China know it could defend itself.

He said of its future missile capability: "The development of equipment must be long range, precise, and mobile, so that the enemy can sense that we are prepared as soon as they dispatch their troops."

Chui said that the Chinese air force has made more than 500 incursions into Taiwans air-defence identification zone so far in 2021.

This compares to the record 380 incursions into Taiwan's defence zone made by Chinese military jets last year.

Just last Thursday, China flew 24 warplanes including two nuclear-capable bombers into Taiwan's air defence zone, the biggest incursion in weeks, after voicing its opposition to Taipei joining a major trans-Pacific trade deal.

In response, Taiwan's air force scrambled to warn off the aircraft, which included 12 J-16 fighters and two nuclear-capable H-6 bombers, the defence ministry said.

Taiwan recently staged chilling biowarfare defence drillsamid fears China is creating weaponised coronaviruses in preparation for World War Three.

Troops simulated a biological and chemical attack by Beijing as well as preventing a decapitation strike against their president.

Drills took place throughout Taiwan as well as on the Taiwan Straits as part of its largest annual military exercise, and involved both standing and select reserve forces.

Despite China increasing efforts to force the democratically governed island to accept Chinese sovereignty, most Taiwanese have no shown no wish to be ruled by autocratic Beijing.

WW3 fears as Kim Jong-un warns of chilling new nuclear arms race over Australia sub deal… – The Sun

Posted: September 24, 2021 at 10:30 am

WORLD War Three fears are mounting after Kim Jong-un warned of a chilling new nuclear arms race over Australia's submarine pact with America and Britain.

The North Korean dictator slammed the "double standards" of the United States and vowed to retaliate after Joe Biden signed a historic deal to build Australia's first nuclear submarine fleet.

3

3

3

Kim said the pact was an "extremely" dangerous move which would destroy the security balance in the Asia-Pacific and set off a terrifying nuclear arms race.

According to the official KCNA news agency, North Korea's foreign ministry said: "These are extremely undesirable and dangerous acts which will upset the strategic balance in the Asia-Pacific region and trigger off a chain of nuclear arms race."

The ministry said North Korea was closely examining the deal and vowed counter-measures if it has "even a little adverse impact on the security of our country".

The rogue state suspended its testing of nuclear bombs and intercontinental-range ballistic missiles in 2018 when Kim held talks with former President Donald Trump.

The nuclear negotiations between Washington and Pyongyang have stalled since the collapse of a second Trump-Kim meeting in 2019.

But North Korea has continued testing shorter range weapons, threatening South Korea and Japan in a bid to pressure the Biden administration over the stalled diplomacy.

And last week, Kim unveiled the country's latest missile launch system - from a train.

The state announced it had tested its "railway-borne missile system" with warheads flying 497 miles before striking a target in the sea.

Kim is also said to be accelerating his bid for nuclear war after satellite pictures suggested he is "ramping up his production of uranium".

The show of strength came as the historic new military partnership between Britain, America and Australia was unveiled last week.

Dubbed AUKUS, the alliance will see the three powers cooperate on building Australia's first nuclear submarine fleet of at least eight vessels.

The pact between Britain, America and Australia is seen as a direct response to thegrowing threat posed by China in the Indian and Pacific oceans.

China hit back and slammed Britain and America for "aggravating an arms race", while warning Australia will become a "potential target for a nuclear strike".

The Communist regimes Washington DC embassy spokesman Liu Pengyu accused the nations of adopting a "Cold War mentality" like the terrifying nuke stand-off between the US and the Soviet Union in the 20th century.

Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said the agreement "seriously undermines regional peace and stability and intensifies the arms race".

The alliance is seen as a bid to offset the Beijing's growing economic and military reach in the Asia-Pacific region.

Asian superpowers are pouring billions into new aircraft carriers, submarines and state-of-the-art missile systems in a frightening display of military might.

China alone has ploughed an extra 1.35 trillion yuan (151 billion) into military spending this year - a modest 6.8 per cent increase - as it seeks to extend its claim over territory in the South China Sea.

The agreement seriously undermines regional peace and stability and intensifies the arms race.

The rising superpower also boasts of having DF-26 missiles that could knock out targets across South East Asia with deadly precision and speed.

It is busy building "at least 250 long range missile silos" in three locations sparking fears a new nuclear arms race is underway.

A third missile silo field in a remote area in Inner Mongolia has reportedly been photographed by a European Space Agency satellite as Beijing launches its largest ever nuke expansion.

Peter Jennings, head of the Australian Strategic Policy Institute think tank, said Australia's decision to acquire nuclear submarines was a response to this.

He said: "We should call the first submarine in this new category the Xi Jinping, because no person is more responsible for Australia going down this track than the current leader of the Chinese Communist Party."

And last Wednesday, South Korea became the first non-nuclear nation to fire ballistic missiles from a submarine, hours after North Korea launched theirs.

In the same week, Fumio Kishida, the man tipped to be Japan's next prime minister, said his nation should acquire preemptive military kit such as fighter jets or missiles that can take out enemy missiles on the ground before they've launched.

WW3 fears as China sends another five fighter jets over Taiwan in second wave of war games in a day… – The US Sun

Posted: at 10:30 am

CHINA has sent five more fighter jets towards Taiwan in another terrifying wave of war games.

The display of force comes after the self-governing island announced its intention to join an 11-nation Pacific trade group that Beijing has also applied to join.

3

China first sent 19 war planes into Taiwan airspace yesterday before sending five more in a second surge later the same day, sparking fears of World War 3.

Taiwan deployed air patrol forces in response to the jets and tracked them on its air defense systems, the islands Defense Ministry said in a statement.

The planes used in the morning flight, some of which flew in a long L-shaped path, included two nuclear-capable bombers and an anti-submarine aircraft.

Later in the day, China sent more bombers as well as an early warning aircraft.

The Communist superpower has sent fighter jets toward Taiwan on an almost daily basis this past year.

It stepped up its military harassment of the self-ruled island and has sent large displays of planes after political events which it views as interfering with its sovereignty

Taiwan and China split during a civil war in 1949, but Beijing continues to claim Taipei as part of its territory and opposes its involvement in international organisations.

Taiwan announced on Thursday that itapplied to jointhe Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership, setting up another potential clash with Beijing.

Chinas military sent 18 planes toward Taiwan last year when a top US diplomat visited the island and met with officials there.

In June, it sent 28 warplanes after leaders of the Group of Seven industrialized nations issued a statement calling for a peaceful resolution of cross-Taiwan Strait issues.

It comes afterTaiwan staged chilling biowarfare defence drillsamid fears China is creating weaponised coronaviruses.

Troops began this week by simulating a biological and chemical attack by Beijing as well as preventing a decapitation strike against their president.

Drills are taking place throughout Taiwan as well as on the Taiwan Straits as part of its largest annual military exercise and involve both standing and select reserve forces.

Taiwan recently proposed extra defence spending of $8.69billion over the next five years - including on new missiles - as it warned of an urgent need to upgrade weapons in the face of a "severe threat" from its neighbour.

Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen has made modernising the armed forces a priority, especially as Beijing ramps up its military and diplomatic pressure against the island it claims as "sacred" Chinese territory.

"The Chinese Communists have continued to invest heavily in national defence budgets, its military strength has grown rapidly, and it has frequently dispatched aircraft and ships to invade and harass our seas and airspace," Taiwan's Defence Ministry said.

"In the face of severe threats from the enemy, the nation's military is actively engaged in military building and preparation work, and it is urgent to obtain mature and rapid mass production weapons and equipment in a short period of time."

Deputy Defence Minister Wang Shin-lung said the new arms would all be made domestically - although the US will probably remain an important parts and technology provider.

Taiwan has been keen to demonstrate it can defend itself, especially amid questions about whether Washington would come to its aid if China attacked.

The weapons Taiwan aims to buy include cruise missiles and warships, the ministry said.

Taiwan has already unveiled a class of highly agile stealth warships, which it refers to as an "aircraft carrier killer", and it's also developing its own submarines.

WORLD War Three fears are mounting as China has been ramping up island invasion war games - while Taiwan has been developing a new carrier killer warship.

China regards Taiwan as part of its territory and has long threatened to use force to bring it under its control.

2

2

This year Beijing has worryingly been ramping up naval drills to test their ability to seize an Island.

In the first half of 2021, China carried out 20 exercises involving island capture - compared to just 13 in the whole of 2020.

And now Chinas Maritime Administration has announced that an area in the west of the Leizhou Peninsula will be cordoned off to traffic on Thursday and Friday, because of live-fire exercises.

It comes after China flew 19 nuke bombers and fighter jets into Taiwan air space on Sunday.

Meanwhile Taiwans president oversaw the commissioning of a new warship yesterday amid heightened tensions.

The ship - nicknamed the carrier killer - is designed to have air defense capabilities and can carry anti-ship missiles.

Taipei has been complaining for more than a year about repeated missions by China's air force near the island.

Earlier this year, China vowed to invade Taiwan and offered a glimpse of a terrifying three-stage plan to pave the way for an invasion force to storm the breakaway island.

Any invasion would mark a serious escalation of hostilities and could drag in the US through its pact to defend Taiwan.

Tensions have been bubbling in the seas around China for months where the US and Japan are reported to have been holding joint military exercises amid fears of a possible conflict.

In July, China staged massive military drills including assault landings and island-control exercises in a bid to demonstrate the communist state's military might over Taiwan.

China has described its war games as necessary to protect the country's sovereignty and deal with "collusion" between Taipei and Washington.

And fears of conflict are mounting after Taiwan's defence ministry last week warned China's armed forces could "paralyse" its defences.

It comes just weeks after China sent 11 warplanes into Taiwan's airspace during war games - threatening "immediate" invasion.

The six fighter jets, two bombers and three surveillance aircraft flew into Taiwans air defence identification zone.

And in June, China sent 28 military jets into the air space - the largest incursion reported by Taiwan to date.

Taiwan is set to hold its largest ever war games exercise in a bid to test out whether it is ready for a potential conflict with China.

Tensions in the region are rising, with China claiming sovereignty over the self-ruled island. It has also sparked tensions between China and western nations.

Taiwan's live-fire military exercise will involve all branches of the force and will be staged for five days from September 13.

It will feature simultaneous air, sea and land drills as tensions ramp up, the South China Morning Post reports.

Major General Lin Wen-huang, director of the defence ministry's operations and planning office, said: "A test of emergency take-offs and landings of fighter jets on the Jiadong wartime runway - a major element of the exercise - will be conducted as planned."

Warplanes will for the first time test emergency take-offs and landings, while the drill will simulate a scenario in which Taiwan's military and civilian airports are seriously damaged by enemy fire, leading to jets landing on the highway.

Ministry spokesman Major General Shih Shun-wen declined to comments on reports that Japan planned to deploy missile units on Ishigaki Island, just 300km off the coast of Taiwan, to counter China's growing naval presence in the area and defend against a potential Chinese attack.

General Shih said: "We will do our best to ensure our combat readiness and safeguard our national security.

"We will also work with like-minded countries to continue to strengthen military exchanges and cooperation in order to increase our defence capability and ensure stability in the Taiwan Strait and peace in the region."

War fears are growing with tensions over Taiwan rising during 2021.

Taiwan has been self-governing since just after the Second World War, but China has sought to assert sovereignty over the island this year to mark the 100th anniversary of the Chinese Communist Party.

Last month China's president Xi Jinping warned foreign nations will "get their heads bashed bloody" if they attempt to interfere with the country's plans for Taiwan.

He reaffirmed the country's "unbreakable commitment" to unifying Taiwan, adding he would "fulfil the Chinese dream of great national rejuvenation".

The US and Japan have both been critical of China's plans for Taiwan.
