Ron Paul: Are we far from World War III? By Ron Paul TulsaWorld.com |
Thursdays U.S. missile attack on Syria must represent the quickest foreign policy U-turn in history. Less than a week after the White House gave Assad permission to stay on as president of his own country, President Trump decided that the U.S. had to attack Syria and demand Assads ouster after a chemical attack earlier in the week. Trump blamed Assad for the attack, stated that somethings going to happen in retaliation, and less than two days later he launched a volley of 59 Tomahawk missiles (at a cost of $1.5 million each) onto a military airfield near where the chemical attack took place.
President Trump said it is in the vital national security interest of the United States to attack Syria over the use of poison gas. That is nonsense. Even if what Trump claims about the gas attack is true and weve seen no evidence that it is there is nothing about an isolated incident of inhuman cruelty thousands of miles from our borders that is in our vital national security interest. Even if Assad gassed his own people last week it hardly means he will launch chemical attacks on the United States even if he had the ability, which he does not.

From the moment the chemical attack was blamed on Assad, however, I expressed my doubts about the claims. It simply makes no sense for Assad to attack civilians with a chemical weapon just as he is winning his war against ISIS and al-Qaida and has been told by the U.S. that it no longer seeks regime change. On the verge of victory, he commits a suicidal act to no strategic or tactical military advantage? More likely the gas attack was a false flag by the rebels -- or perhaps even by our CIA -- as a last ditch effort to forestall a rebel defeat in the six-year war.
Would the neocons and the mainstream media lie to us about what happened last week in Syria? Of course they would. They lied us into attacking Iraq, they lied us into attacking Gaddafi, they lied us into seeking regime change in Syria in the first place. We should always assume they are lying.
Who benefits from the U.S. attack on Syria? ISIS, which immediately after the attack began a ground offensive. Does President Trump really want the U.S. to act as ISISs air force?
The gas attack, which took some 70 civilian lives, was horrible and must be condemned. But we must also remember that U.S. bombs in Syria have killed hundreds of civilians. Just recently, U.S. bombs killed 300 Iraqi civilians in one strike! Does it really make a difference if you are killed by poison gas or by a U.S. missile?
Whats next for President Trump in Syria? Russia has not backed down from its claim that the poison gas leaked as a result of a conventional Syrian bomb on an ISIS chemical weapons factory. Moscow claims it is determined to defend its ally, Syria. Will Trump unilaterally declare a no-fly zone in parts of Syria and attempt to prevent Russian air traffic? Some suggest this is his next move. It is one that carries a great danger of igniting World War III.
Donald Trumps attack on Syria was clearly illegal. However, Congress shows no interest in reining in this out-of-control president. We should fear any U.S. escalation and must demand that our Representatives prohibit it. If there ever was a time to flood the Capitol Hill switchboard demanding an end to U.S. military action in Syria, it is now!

Ron Paul: US Attack on Syria Is To Prop Up the Military-Industrial … – Antiwar.com (blog)
Posted: April 12, 2017 at 8:09 am
Interviewed Monday by Kennedy at Fox Business, Ron Paul challenged the contention that the United States government was acting in accord with good intentions in attacking Syria last week. Instead, Paul suggests a big motivation was generating profit for the military-industrial complex. Discussing the reason for the attack, the Ron Paul Institute Chairman and former presidential candidate concludes, I think the only interest that has been involved here is to prop up the province of the military-industrial complex.
Paul elaborates that the reason for the attack has nothing to do with concern about the Syria governments purported use of chemical weapons to kill innocent people, given that the US has long been, and continues to be, in the practice of killing innocent people.
Paul also suggests in the interview that neoconservatives influence US actions in regard to Syria. Many people had hoped that President Donald Trumps America First emphasis would cause a move away from military intervention against governments overseas. However, it appears that the influence of people supporting such intervention, including neoconservatives, continues strong in the Trump administration. While Paul says that the neoconservatives politically are winning, he proceeds to note that, at the same time, he believes that the American people are still with us who believe that this war is absolutely unnecessary.

‘They’re terrified that peace was going to break out’ Ron Paul on … – RT
Posted: April 10, 2017 at 2:19 am
A victory of neo-conservatives thats how Ron Paul, a former member of the US House of Representatives and three-time presidential candidate, described the US strike on Syria, adding that he does not expect peace talks to resume any time soon.
Follow RT's LIVE UPDATES on the US strikes on Syria
Speaking to RT, Ron Paul said that there is no proof of Damascus guilt that could trigger such a rash and violent response from the US.
I don't think the evidence is there, at least it hasnt been presented, and they need a so-called excuse, they worked real hard, our government and their coalition.

This is not the first time something like this has happened in Syria or elsewhere, Paul said, but now it is convenient to pay attention and react immediately.
If any of this was true, I dont know why they couldnt wait and take a look at it. In 2013, there were similar stories that didnt go anywhere, because with a little bit of a pause, there was a resistance to it built in our Congress and in the American people. They thought that it was a fraud and nothing like that was happening, and right now, I just cant think of how it could conceivably be what they claim, because its helping ISIS, because its helping Al-Qaeda.
From my point of view, there was no need to rush. There was no threat to national security. They have to give a reason to do these things, Paul added.
A factor that contributed to the speedy reaction was of course the US president, the politician told RT.
I have no idea what his purpose was. Maybe he just didnt want to hear the debate, because the last time they debated it, they lost. And this time, it was necessary for them to jump onto this, before people came to know what was really going on.

The Syrian situation now is a victory for neo-conservatives, whove been looking for Assad to go, Paul said.
They want to get rid of him, and you have to look for who is involved in that. Unfortunately, they are the ones who are winning out on this, and the radicals, too! There is a bit of hypocrisy going on here, because at one minute we say, well, maybe Assad has to stay, the next day he has to go, and were there fighting ISIS and Al-Qaeda. At the same time, what we end up doing is we actually strengthen them! It is a mess.

I dont believe that our people or the American government should be the policemen of the world, it makes no sense, it causes us more trouble and more grief, it causes us more financial problems, and its hardly a way that we could defend our constitutional liberty.
This policy clearly does not lead to peace, Paul told RT.
The peace talks have ended now. Theyre terrified that peace was going to break out! Al-Qaeda was on the run, peace talks were happening, and all of a sudden, they had to change, and this changes things dramatically! I dont expect peace talks anytime soon or in the distant future.
Last but not least, the politician spoke out about the deeper reasons and potential disastrous consequences of the latest attacks timing.
I was wondering about the fact that the announcement came when Trump was talking to Xi [Jinping, the Chinese president]. And of course, [North] Koreas high on the list of targets for our president and our administration. It might be a warning: this is whats going to happen to you if you dont do what we tell you. I just dont like us being involved in so many countries, in their internal affairs; I think its so detrimental.

Ron Paul, former congressman, says ‘zero chance’ Bashar Assad gassed Syrians – Washington Times
Posted: April 7, 2017 at 8:31 pm
Theres no chance Syrian President Bashar Assad ordered the chemical weapons attack that killed dozens of civilians on Tuesday, former Republican congressman and three-time White House hopeful Ron Paul insisted afterwards.
Mr. Paul raised doubts over the Syrian governments role in this weeks deadly chemical weapons attack during a Wednesday taping of his YouTube show, The Liberty Report.
Before this episode of possible gas exposure and who did what, things were going along reasonably well for the conditions, Mr. Paul said during theepisode. Trump said let the Syrians decide who should run their country, and peace talks were making out, and Al Qaeda and ISIS were on the run, he added, the latter being an alternative name for the Islamic State terror group.
The blame now is we cant let that happen because it looks like it might benefit Assad, the former Texas congressman continued. Its not so easy though, is it? What happened four years ago in 2013, you know, this whole thing about crossing the red line? Ever since then, the neocons have been yelling and screaming, a part of the administration has been yelling and screaming about Assad using poison gas.
According to Mr. Paul, it doesnt make any sense for Assad under these conditions to all of a sudden use poisonous gases.
I think there is a zero chance he would have done, you know, this deliberately, he added.
Mr. Paul shared Tuesdays episode through his official Twitter account afterwards in a tweet that called the chemical weapons attack a false flag.
The Trump administration said its inclined to believed otherwise, however, and authorized the U.S. military on Thursday to fire 59 Tomahawk missiles on a Syrian airfield where the administration said Assads regime launched Tuesdays assault.
There is no doubt in our minds that Syria and the regime under Bashar Assad were responsible for this attack, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said Thursday.
Mr. Assads regime called Thursdays retaliatory strike reckless, irresponsible and shortsighted, Russian media reported afterwards.
Mr. Paul, 81, represented Texas on Capitol Hill for over 20 years prior to his retirement in 2013. He launched presidential bids in 1988, 2008 and 2012, and placed second in the 2011 Ames Straw Poll. He is the father of Sen. Rand Paul, Kentucky Republican.

Ron Paul: "Zero Chance" Assad Behind Chemical Weapons …
Posted: at 8:31 pm
According to former Congressman Ron Paul, the chemical weapons attack in Khan Sheikhoun that killed 30 children and has led to calls for the Trump administration to intervene in Syria could have been a false flag attack.
As Paul Joseph Watson details, pointing out that the prospect of peace in Syria was moving closer before the attack, with ISIS and Al-Qaeda on the run, Paul said the attack made no sense.
It looks like maybe somebody didnt like that so there had to be an episode, said Paul, asking, who benefits?
It doesnt make any sense for Assad under these conditions to all of a sudden use poison gases I think theres zero chance he would have done this deliberately, said Paul.
he former Congressman went on to explain how the incident was clearly being exploited by neo-cons and the deep state to enlist support for war.
Its the neo-conservatives who are benefiting tremendously from this because its derailed the progress that has already been made moving toward a more peaceful settlement in Syria, said Paul.
Many have questioned why Assad would be so strategically stupid as to order a chemical weapons attack and incite the wrath of the world given that he is closer than ever to winning the war against ISIS and jihadist rebels.
Just five days before the attack, U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said, The longer-term status of President Assad will be decided by the Syrian people, implying a definite shift in U.S. foreign policy away from regime change in Syria.
Why would Assad put such assurances in jeopardy by launching a horrific chemical attack, allowing establishment news outlets like CNN to once against use children as props to push for yet another massive war in the Middle East?

‘False Flag’ vs. ‘Wag the Dog’: Conspiracy Theories Emerge on Syria … – Mediaite
Posted: at 8:31 pm
Two conspiracy theories emerged during the lead-up to and in the immediate aftermath of President Donald Trump ordering missile strikes on Syria. The first, most prominently touted by Ron Paul and controversial commentator Mike Cernovich, claimed that the chemical weapons attack days ago that served as the justification for the attack was a false flag. The other theory wondered whether the raid on the Syrian airfield was a wag the dog scenario.
On Wednesday, former Congressman Paul posted to Twitter: FALSE FLAG Ron Paul Says Syrian Chemical Attack Makes No Sense. He linked to a YouTube video where he made his case.
Cernovich also took to Twitter, boosting the #SyriaHoax hashtag. He underlined, Fake news is forming a pro-war media narrative in real time. #SyriaHoax They want war and will attack people who want peace. He also contended, Deep state planned false flag Syria attack as far back as 2013, according to Daily Mail. He later asked, Did McCain give moderate rebels (ISIS) in Syria poison gas and Hollywood style film equipment?
One of the most prominent wag the dog theorists on Twitter was former British MP Louise Mensch, who posted her contention on Thursday night.
The same evening, MSNBCs Chris Matthews and regular guest David Corn boosted this theory on Hardball. Matthews noted that Trump is under incredible scrutiny for his relationswith the Russians. He added that were hearing lots of talksthat there may be military action against Russias number one ally, which is Syria. Is this to cover his tracks? Corn replied, Well, that would be the wag the dog scenario, right?

It was never proven in fact, agreed Ron Paul Institute for Peace and Prosperity executive director Daniel McAdams.U.N. official Carla Del Pontesaid it was most likely done by the rebels.
It makes no sense, even if you were totally separate from this and take no sides of this and you were just an analyst, it doesnt make sense for Assad under these conditions to all of the sudden use poison gasses, Paul continued. I think its zero chance that he would have done this deliberately.

Back in November, Paul said in an interview with The Daily Caller that false flag attacks could be used by both the so-called American deepstate and foreign actors to drawthe Trump administration into foreign engagements. (RELATED: Ron Paul Warns Of False Flags And A Shadow Government)
All we need is a false flag and an accident and everybody will be for teaching them a lesson, he told TheDCs Alex Pfeiffer. You know the deep state is very very powerful and they have a lot of control.
I think theres the shadow government, the military-industrial complex, the CIA, and all the things that can be done because they just melt away and they do exactly what the establishment says.

They needed a so-called excuse to go into Iraq so they concocted stories, and all kinds of things. Thats what this is a part of, Paul, a career non-interventionist, continued. If all of this is true, I dont know why they couldnt wait and take a look at it.
Right now, I dont see conceivably it doing what they claim because right now its helping ISIS, its helping al-Qaeda, its helping the enemy were supposedlyfighting. (VIDEO: Ron Paul Says Sarin Gas Attack In Syria Is A False Flag)

Trump Tees Off With Rand Paul to Show GOP ‘Love’ on Health Care – Bloomberg
Posted: April 3, 2017 at 7:46 pm
President Donald Trump golfed Sunday with an outspoken Republican opponent of the failed legislation to repeal and replace Obamacare, hours after insisting theres enough love and strength among factions of the party to find a new path forward.
Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky and White House budget director Mick Mulvaney golfed with the president at Trump National Golf Club in Potomac Falls, Virginia.
We had a great day with the president. Played some golf and we talked about a little bit of health care, Paul told reporters on the White Houses South Lawn after returning from the outing. I continue to be very optimistic that we are getting closer and closer to an agreement on repealing Obamacare.
The most important business stories of the day.
Get Bloomberg's daily newsletter.
White House spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham earlier told reporters the threesome planned to discuss a range of topics, including health care, during their round, which took place on a sunny spring day perfect for hitting the links. The match took place just days after Trump blasted conservative lawmakers in the House, saying the Freedom Caucus will hurt the entire Republican agenda if they dont get on the team, and fast.
House Speaker Paul Ryan pulled a Obamacare repeal-and-replace bill, which had been heavily promoted by Trump and White House aides, in late March after it became clear it faced too much opposition within the party and would be voted down on the House floor. Paul was among those who said it wouldnt have had sufficient support in the Senate either.
Trump said in tweets early Sunday that talks on Repealing and Replacing ObamaCare are, and have been, going on, and will continue until such time as a deal is hopefully struck.
Anybody, especially the media, who thinks that Repeal & Replace of ObamaCare is dead does not know the love and strength in the Republican Party, Trump assured his 27 million Twitter followers.
On March 30, Trump said he was ready to fight the conservative Freedom Caucus, whose opposition helped to doom Ryans bill. Trump and his aides have suggested he could back critics rivals in primaries ahead of the 2018 midterm elections.
Trump had called out several conservative Republicans by name, saying they could drag down the partys entire agenda. The Freedom Caucus will hurt the entire Republican agenda if they dont get on the team, & fast. We must fight them, & Dems, in 2018! the president tweeted Thursday.
Trump social media director Dan Scavino on Saturday urged a primary challenge against Representative Justin Amash of Michigan.
Representative Jim Jordan of Ohio, co-founder of the House Freedom Caucus, said Sunday that tweets, statements and blame from the White House dont change facts and that Ryans legislation fell short of promises Republicans had made to voters about how Obamacare would be ended.
It was better to start over and get this thing done right, Jordan said on CNNs State of the Union. If Amash were to face a primary opponent, Im going to do everything I can to help him, Jordan said.
Paul, 54, a board-certified ophthalmologist before following his father, former Representative Ron Paul, into politics, had a prickly relationship with Trump even before the health-care standoff. Paul was among the crowded 2016 presidential primary field that Trump blitzed on his way to the partys nomination and the White House.
In August 2015, Trump said in a statement that he had easily beat Paul in a golf game and will even more easily beat him now in the presidential campaign.
Golf Digest in November said that Paul plays off a 17 handicap. It estimated that Trump, then the president-elect, had a handicap of 2.8.
