Ron Paul: "Country Should Panic Over Fed's Decision"

Posted: September 14, 2012 at 3:16 am

What took Ben Bernanke sixty minutes of mumbling about tools, word-twisting, and data-manipulating to kinda-sorta admit - that in fact he is lost; Ron Paul eloquently expresses in 25 seconds in this Bloomberg TV clip. Noting that "we are creating money out of thin air," Paul sums up Bernanke's position perfectly "We've Lost Control!"

25-second quick clip

Full 5 minute clip - must watch! from Mal-investment to Bernanke's frustration...

Pauls reaction to more Federal Reserve stimulus:

It should not surprise anybody, but it is still astounding. To me, it is so astounding that it does not collapse the markets. [Bernanke] said, We are in very big trouble. We are going to do something unprecedented and we believe it will not hurt the dollar. And yet the stocks, they say we love this stuff. But the dollar didnt do so well today and the real value of the dollar is measured against gold, and gold skyrocketed from its very low to its highest. It means we are weakening the dollar. We are trying to liquidate our debt through inflation. The consequence of what the Fed is doing is a lot more than just CPI. It has to do with malinvestment and people doing the wrong things at the wrong time. Believe me, there is plenty of that. The one thing that Bernanke has not achieved and it frustrates him, I can tellis he gets no economic growth. He doesnt do anything with the unemployment numbers. I think the country should have panicked over what the Fed is saying that we have lost control and the only thing we have left is massively creating new money out of thin air, which has not worked before, and is not going to work this time.

On potential unintended consequences:

The biggest unintended consequence is what we need is a restoration of confidence. If the Fed is expressing a lack of confidence and they do not know what to do, it does not do anything to restore confidence. People might restrain from doing anything. Interest rates are low. I do not have to buy my house this year. I will wait until next year. It might be a little easier. Prices might come down. So people are restrained and it is the opposite of when you expect that housing prices are going up, and you are afraid interest rates are going up. That is why the market rate of interest is so crucial. The rate of interest should give the businessman, the entrepreneurs, the investors and the savers information. But there is no market to interest rates. That is why there is such gross distortion and why we do not have a market economy. We have a rigged economy through central economic planning by central banking. The system is failing, it was doomed to fail and we have to wake up to that fact.

Why Ron Paul's Campaign Manager Is Now Taking A Job With The GOP Establishment

Posted: September 13, 2012 at 9:12 pm

The hire is already being heralded as a shrewd move by McConnell, who appears to have seen the writing on the wall after Paul's son, Rand Paul, rode the Tea Party wave to defeat the McConnell-backed Establishment candidate in Kentucky's 2010 Senate primary.

Benton, who ran Sen. Paul's 2010 campaign and is married to one of Ron Paul's granddaughters, is the consummate Paul insider, with deep ties to Kentucky's Tea Party movement. His presence on McConnell's staff virtually guarantees that the Senate Minority leader won't face a challenge from the right in 2014 or a challenge to his leadership in the Senate should the Tea Party's influence there continue to grow.

But Benton is also a controversial figure in the Paul Universe, where the management of the Paul campaign is a topic of endless debate. His decision to take a job deep within the heart of the GOP is likely to raise the ire of some of Paul's most active supporters, confirming long-held suspicions that the Texas Congressman's campaign aides sold him out to the Republican Party Establishment.

But Benton doesn't see it that why. In his first interview since taking the job with McConnell, Benton told Business Insider why he decided to take the job with McConnell, and why he doesn't think he's selling out all.

Below is the lightly-edited transcript of our interview:

BI: Senator McConnell isn't up for re-election for another two years, and he doesn't even have a Democratic opponent yet. Why take this position now? Do you anticipate a primary challenge?

Jesse Benton: No, we're not anticipating a primary challenge. But we expect him to be the biggest target for the national Democrats. It's sort of become a right of passage that the Senate leadership becomes a huge target. We saw it with [former South Dakota Sen.] Tom Daschle, [Senate Majority Leader] Harry Reid, and so on and so forth. We think that Sen. McConnell is going to have a big target on his back, but we're going to be ready. We're going to run a heckuva campaign.

BI: You ran Sen. Rand Paul's campaign in Kentucky in 2010, and Sen. McConnell endorsed his primary opponent. What's changed since then?

Benton: What changed was a friendship that we cultivated, both Rand and Senator McConnell and our teams cultivated in the [2010] general election.

Ron Paul One Of The Most Corrupt Members Of Congress, Report Finds

Posted: September 12, 2012 at 8:12 pm

Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, speaks at a rally at the University of South Florida Sun Dome on the sidelines of the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla., on Sunday, Aug. 26, 2012.

Texas Republican Rep. Ron Paul has been named one of the most corrupt members of Congress in a new report from the watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics.

The report says Paul "double-billed" his travel expenses a number of times over the last decade, meaning he may have been reimbursed for the same flights both under his official allowance as congressman, and by either non-profit groups under his control or his campaign committee.

The revelation would be ironic in part because Paul made fiscal responsibility a central tenet of his 2012 presidential campaign. The congressman celebrated a major victory in July when his bill to audit the Federal Reserve for greater transparency passed the House.

Paul's possible double-billing has been in the public eye since Roll Call first reported it in February, but CREW says there is no evidence Paul has repaid the money since.

A request for comment from Paul's office was not immediately returned.

One of the most troubling cases of the congressman's possible double-billing revolves around reimbursements he received for flights from both his official allowance and the libertarian group the Liberty Committee. At that time, the Liberty Committee's finances were overseen by a relative of the Paul family.

"It's extremely disappointing," Liberty Committee President David James told Whispers of the double-billing.

James says he first noticed a red flag in 2004, after the committee asked Paul for copies of his travel tickets, and the congressman did not provide them. Paul stopped billing the committee shortly after they asked for the tickets, according to James. By 2005, James says he was aware of possible double-billing. But it wasn't until the Roll Call story that he saw how far the problem extended.

The committee conducted its own audit of Paul's finances shortly after the story, and found that 60 percent of the travel Paul had billed to the committee had been doubled-billed.

Stockman: "Ron Paul Is Right: The Fed, And The Lunatics That Run It, Are The Heart Of The Problem"

Posted: September 11, 2012 at 5:13 pm

Former Reagan OMB Director David Stockman was 'allowed' on CNBC this morning - much to their chagrin now we suspect - and espoused his own brand of truthiness, starting with this epic tirade:

"Ron Paul is the only one who is right about the Fed, and the Fed is the heart of the problem. They have destroyed the capital markets and the money markets; interest rates mean nothing; everything is trading off the Fed and Wall Street isn't even home - as it's now a bunch of computers trading word-clouds emitted by this central banker and that"

In this environment, he goes on, everyone is being given the wrong signal - i.e. the Ryan/Romney campaign is abnout restoring vibrant capitalism; how can you do that when the financial markets are dead - the lifeblood of a capitalist system. And that is the problem today.

An excellent discussion ensues diving into the lack of fiscal discipline (that is enabled by a Fed ZIRP) as "[politicians] will never do it when you can keep borrowing free-money forever" and summed up nicely with this subtle sentence:

"The Fed (and the lunatics that run it) are telling the whole world untruths about the cost of money and the price of risk."

Dan Halloran Keeps Up the Good Fight for Ron Paul Supporters

Posted: at 5:13 pm

Dan Halloran speaking before the crowd at the Rebel.

GOP Councilman Dan Halloran is an underdog congressional campaign in a staunchly Democratic district where his opponent has repeatedly attacked him for his support of Ron Pauls presidential campaign, but Mr. Halloran has no plans to slow down his advocacy in Mr. Pauls political movement any time soon. To that end, he was among the supporters of Mr. Paul who gathered in Mainea couple weeks ago, and last night, he addressed a crowd that had gathered for Mr. Pauls son, Kentucky Senator Rand Paul, near Penn Station last night.

Problem is, we aint getting Ron in the White House. We have a choice: Do we keep what we have, or do we trade it in? Mr. Halloran said to the enthusiastic crowd, making the case for Mitt Romneys campaign. We cant afford to have four more years of Barack Hussein Obama. We cant afford it. Our country cant economically. Our people cant afford it. If you think people are out of work today, when the real depression hits us, and theres no leadership in the White House, theres going to be nowhere to hide. This country will come to a grinding halt. The Constitution, you can just forget about it.

Mr. Halloran said some of that erosion of liberty has already begun at home with Mayor Michael Bloombergs various restrictive proposals as well as nationally, with President Barack Obamas healthcare reform bill and Mitt Romneys presidential campaign making life difficult for supporters of Mr. Paul. However, Mr. Halloran encouraged the crowd not to lose hope.

If we have people like Rand Paul in the Senate of the United States speaking up for us, if we have men like that doing what needs to be done, then this Republic is not dead, he said. Dont be disparaged at what happened this year with the Ron Paul campaign. Dont be disparaged by some of the things that have gone on.Keep momentum alive!

He added, I implore all of you, continue the fight.

Overall, Mr. Halloran seemed a little less assertive than some of his other recent appearances before conservative crowds where he had directly engaged his Democratic opponent, Assemblywoman Grace Meng and her father, who was arrested on bribery charges earlier this summer. For example, on one occasion,he tossed out a number for what Mr. Meng might have raised on his daughters behalf, and on another,he insinuated she would have been complicit in her fathers crime had it been carried out. For her part, Ms. Meng has maintained that she has nothing to do with the allegations.

Last night, however, Mr. Halloran only referred to my opponent, and only in the context of her outraising him and soliciting contributions from Hollywood, who use their money to tell the blind sheep how to vote.

Additionally, his appearance was in no way as fiery as his speech to another crowd of Ron Paul supporters atLiberty Fest NYC last year. Watch that address below.

Local Ron Paul supporter experienced highs, lows of GOP convention

Posted: September 8, 2012 at 2:10 pm

Longview's Samuel Webb was both exhilarated and disheartened while attending the Republic National Convention as an alternate delegate, but his commitment to Ron Paul and the "Liberty Movement" remains strong.

Webb, 35, was one of 10 Paul supporters who were part of Washington's 83-person delegation. Webb was the only delegate for any candidate from Cowlitz County.

He knew it was a long shot, but Webb still held out a slim hope that Paul might emerge as the Republican candidate for president as the result of a deadlocked or brokered convention. Webb also wanted to be sure that Paul's beliefs were represented.

Instead, Webb said what he found in Tampa last week was a highly scripted and controlled environment that didn't welcome dissent. Webb, like many Paul supporters, was outraged at rule changes that he said were approved against party policy and counter to the voice vote results. He also protested when party leaders replaced some Paul supporters in the Maine delegation, adding that national party leaders have stripped almost all power from the elected delegates.

Among his convention memorabilia is one of the yellow Grassroots signs that dissenters held up at various times throughout the convention. It reads "We are the Party," and Webb said that, while Paul doesn't plan to run again for president, the movement will continue.

"The torch has been passed," Webb said. "This isn't about Ron Paul anymore, it's about liberty and the grass roots and the people maintaining the power."

As an alternate delegate, Webb attended the entire convention but was only on the convention floor when his delegate partner was not. Webb got to take the floor during the roll call of state votes, which he said was exciting even though he was disappointed that votes for Pual weren't announced over the arena's loudspeakers as nominee Mitt Romney's were.

And while some panned actor Clint Eastwood's speech, Webb said he loved it because Eastwood criticized both President Obama and Republicans on foreign policy matters. "He was definitely liberty-minded," Webb said.

As for Romney, Webb won't be campaigning for him.

Make no mistake, Webb is not an Obama supporter -- he predicts an "economic crash and a moral crash" if Obama is re-elected. But he can't bring himself to campaign for Romney after the convention, even if some might say that's betraying the party.
