Ron Paul, former Texas congressman and Republican presidential contender, will speak at the Knox County Republican Partys Lincoln Day dinner on April 12, having been invited by his friend, U.S. Rep. John J. Duncan Jr., R-Knoxville.

Dads a good friend of Ron Paul. He asked him about a month ago if he would be able to come, County Trustee John Duncan III said Friday, after posting the announcement on Facebook Thursday night. He said he sold about 75 tickets within a few hours.

The younger Duncan was quick to say he did not post anything until after the Knox County Republican Party posted the announcement on its website.

Jimmy has pulled off a huge coup. Were all excited, GOP Chair Ruthie Kuhlman said.

Paul served in Congress multiple times. In between some terms, he practiced medicine. His politics are considered a mixture of Republican and Libertarian beliefs. His son, Rand Paul, is a U.S. senator from Kentucky and active in the tea party movement.

Since retiring earlier in the year, hes been active in Campaign for Liberty. Bob Griffitts, Duncans chief of staff, said Paul was coming to Knoxville just for his expenses and not charging a speakers fee.

In the presidential primary campaign in 2012 in Tennessee, Paul ran fourth. A few nights before the primary at the Tennessee Conservative Unions Reagan Day dinner in Knoxville, he was third in a straw poll, ahead by one vote of Mitt Romney, who eventually became the nominee against President Barack Obama. Paul also ran for president in 2008.

Since Paul did not seek re-election last year, Duncan has become a favorite with some, particularly in the blogosphere, to succeed Paul with his conservative agenda. One Paul fan called the East Tennessean the closest to Ron Pauls ideological twin on Capitol Hill.

The two men share similar views on foreign policy, fiscal issues and limited constitutional government. Duncan and Paul both support auditing the Federal Reserve and reining in its power.

Kuhlman said the GOP Executive Committee meets Sunday to decide details of the dinner, including the price and venue. She said she wasnt sure Rothchilds catering and conference center, where the Lincoln Day event has been held for years, can handle the crowd that Paul is likely to attract.

Some folks claim the voting booths were rigged in the 2012 election, but Dr. Paul never got a chance to get that far. The media took care of that, in spite of the reality of his popularity on the ground. This video lays it all out in retrospect-how Dr. Paul was omitted from the election primary results, omitted by news stations reporting the polls, and ignored by reporters on the road. The confusion and anger of knowing Ron Paul was being ignored, thus given "no chance of winning", escalated to the eruption that occurred at the GOP convention in Orlando, FL, August, 2012. Refusing to even call out his name for the electoral votes that Ron Paul DID get, the GOP showed their true colors at the convention. Actually, hes writing them. The former Texas GOP congressman is turning his libertarian focus to education with a new book that advocates for a free-market approach to schooling and education.

New School Manifesto will be published by Grand Central Publishing Sept. 17, just in time for back-to-school season.

According to the publisher, the book will be a focused guide to Dr. Pauls position, which centers on a strong support for home schooling and free-market principles applied to education. He makes the case for individual freedoms as they pertain to educating our children, and nimbly dissects the most pressing issues that need to be addressed from the libertarian point of view.

In New School Manifesto, Paul compares the education system to the postal service, arguing both would benefit from private sector competition, according to Politico. The libertarian author also examines a variety of education policy proposals, says the news site, and advocates that parents should have more leverage in choosing what schooling system is best for their children.

Some interesting context: Throughout his career, Paul has tried to get the government out of education. During the 2012 presidential campaign, then-GOP nominee contender Paul advocated closing the Department of Education as well as abolishing No Child Left Behind. Instead Paul was in favor of giving tax credits and vouchers to parents. That small government, free-market approach is sure to shape his latest book. He has also long opposed federal student loans and has called federal education efforts a propaganda machine, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Former presidential candidate Ron Paul, a longtime foe of the Federal Reserve and champion of a smaller foreign policy footprint, is turning to education in a new book slated for release this fall.

In New School Manifesto, scheduled for a Sept. 17 release from Grand Central Publishing, the former GOP congressman from Texas will promote home schooling and free market principles applied to education, according to an official book description.

He makes the case for individual freedoms as they pertain to educating our children, and nimbly dissects the most pressing issues that need to be addressed from the libertarian point of view, the description continues.

This will be Pauls fourth book with Grand Central Publishing, following Liberty Defined, End the Fed and The Revolution: A Manifesto, his editor, Ben Greenberg, told POLITICO. Greenberg said the book has been in the works for close to a year, and that a deal for its publication was hammered out in January.

In this book, Greenberg said, Paul will compare the postal service to the education system, arguing that in both realms, competition promotes better services.

Hes basically saying the postal service didnt have many competitors until FedEx, UPS and email, obviously, and now its changing the way everything gets done, Greenberg said. Hes arguing for that in education as well.

Paul will address a variety of education policy proposals, he said.

Hes taking the position that a parent should have the ability to choose what is best, Greenberg said, a philosophy that would include home schooling.

Greenberg, who has edited all of Pauls books done through Grand Central Publishing, said the Texan is really easy to work with and doesnt require heavy editing.

We usually do two to three edits for the main script, but not much, Greenberg said. His ideas are pretty fully formed. Its just a matter of honing in and making sure everything is in the right order and just figuring out how to best say the message without becoming too repetitive or anything like that.
