Gary North, director of the Ron Paul Curriculum, said he and the three-time presidential candidate believe there's a "tremendous need" for a homeschool curriculum that offers a history of liberty, as well as liberty's rivals; a thorough understanding of the Austrian school of economics; and a program that is based on primary sourced documents, as opposed to textbooks, which "dumb down the material."

In the introductory video, North explains that the curriculum will include a series of online lectures and reading assignments that allow students to work at their own pace, and will also foster an environment where students can teach each other about learned concepts. The curriculum, for which there are no textbooks, does require students to write a weekly essay starting in the fifth grade. North also noted that unlike traditional school environments, the Ron Paul Curriculum doesn't include "busy work," and it doesn't "waste the students' time."

The curriculum requires studentsto post their essay entries on a blog page for parents to review; and students are required to create their own YouTube channels, as well as learn about video production, website design and Internet marketing.

According to Tom Woods, a New York Times best-selling author and Ludwig von Mises Institute senior fellow who will be among the instructors for the high school curriculum, the program doesn't only "teach from a different point of view," or "teach material that no other school or curriculum offers," but according to his websitethe curriculum "also emphasizes oral and written communication, so that students will be able to spread and defend their ideas effectively."

Woods, who said his role will be to teachhigh school courses in Western civilization, the U.S. Constitution, government and the history of American wars, explained that the course schedule is "centered around a 36-week schedule, five lessons (25 minutes each), per week per course."

Ron Paul Starts a Home-School Curriculum

Posted: at 4:42 pm

According to a story in the Daily Caller, Ron Paul, a libertarian-minded former representative from Texas, has developed his own home-school curriculum for grades K-12 based on his ideas of individual liberty.

The Ron Paul Curriculum

According to the Ron Paul Curriculum, the course of study is a work in progress, but with free education for grades K-5 and courses for grades 6-12 available for members only. Much of the course material will consist of online lectures, which can be reviewed by the students, and primary source material (i.e. no special textbooks.) The weekly school schedule will consist of watching lectures and reading source material for four days with the fifth being for review of the material and for grades 5 and up writing essays to be posted on a student's website.

Courses to be offered

The Ron Paul Curriculum will teach history and literature from a free market perspective, math, science, the U.S. Constitution, economics, geography, and how to start and run a home business. The philosophy of the course of study will be from Paul's perspective of liberty, with instruction of how it is under attack and how it can be reclaimed. Other cultures will be studied with a view of the relationship between literature and history. The philosophy and history of liberty and "its rivals" will be compared and contrasted. The courses are described as "academically rigorous" based on primary source material. Students will be encourage to teach one another, with the coursework self taught above grade 5 with parents reviewing their children's progress.

Goals of the Ron Paul Curriculum

According to the introductory video, students having completed the Ron Paul Curriculum will be able to speak and write effectively, run a website, run a YouTube channel, understand math, science, the histories of western civilization and America, the United States Constitution, the interaction between literature and historical development, the influence of Christianity on world history, and the Austrian school of economics, start a home business, and defend free market principles.

Issues of accreditation

In a separate essay, Gary North, Director of Curriculum Development for the Ron Paul Curriculum, states that accreditation from any state agency will not be sought on the idea that this will require compromise on the makeup of the courses offered. North suggest that parents who might have to deal with state intervention, say the visit of a truant office, should sign up with a pro-home-schooling organization called the Home School Legal Defense Association, which helps to provide legal defense for home-schooling families who find themselves in conflict with state education entities.

Laws regulating home schools vary, but in the state of Texas, where Ron Paul hails from, the regulations are simple and straightforward, according to Home Education and Responsible Teacher (HEART). In Texas, a home school is considered a private school for purposes of state regulation. Such schools are required to teach children "reading, spelling, grammar, mathematics, and good citizenship." State officials, such as truant officers, are not permitted to visit the home school but must put their concerns about the operation of a home school in writing. The operator of a home school is then required to respond in writing in a "timely manner."

Ron Paul Announces His Home Schooling Program (Audio)

Posted: at 4:42 pm

Former congressman and presidential candidate Ron Paul recently announced on his weekly news broadcast (audio below) and on Facebook that he would be launching his own home schooling program, reports DailyCaller.com.

When Paul was running for president, he called for ending five federal government departments, including the Department of Education, reported CNSNews.com.

I am pleased to announce my new website: RonPaulCurriculum.com which will feature an online home school curriculum for students K-12. be sure to tell your family and friends! Paul wrote on his Facebook page.

Paul lists the following courses on his website: "Liberty vs. coercion in Western History, How to defend the Freedom Philosophy, What it takes for success in college and How to start a home business."

Students also learn the basics of American history, the United States Constitution, and American geography. the site also states. They get two courses on free market economics. They get two courses on government, including a how-to course on reclaiming America, one county at a time.

Paul slammed public education in his audio address.

A common feature of authoritarian regimes is the criminalization of alternatives to government-controlled education, claimed Paul. Dictators recognize the danger that free thought poses to their rule, and few things promote the thinking of 'unapproved' thoughts like an education controlled by parents instead of the state... Children do better when their education is controlled by those who know their unique needs best, rather than by a federal bureaucrat.

Former Presidential Candidate Ron Paul to Present Keynote Speech in New York

Posted: April 3, 2013 at 12:43 pm

NEW YORK, April 3, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Former Republican presidential candidate and libertarian Dr. Ron Paul is a keynote speaker at the New York Metals & Minerals Investment Conference on May 13, 2013 in New York City.

(Logo: http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20100316/SUMMITLOGO )

As a serious investor in gold and silver mining stock himself, it should come as no surprise that approximately 64% of Paul's personal portfolio is made up of natural resources stocks. In a recent Wall Street Journal article looking at a 2010 "Form A" financial disclosure statement filed by the congressman, values Paul's personal portfolio between $2.44 and $5.46 million. While some may call Paul's investment portfolio risky, others call it successful.

Paul has a consistent record, having warned of hyperinflation as far back as 1981. He believes the long-term decrease of the U.S. dollar's purchasing power by inflation is attributable to its lack of any commodity backing and advocates eliminating legal tender laws and removing the sales tax on gold and silver, so that the market may freely decide what type of monetary standard(s) there shall be.

"We are excited that Dr. Paul will be speaking during the Metals & Mining Investment Conference on May 13th. Hearing from a political leader who has discussed hyperinflation and GOLD in the mainstream media will be a great addition to our conference," said Jonathan Moore, Managing Director and Senior Vice President, Events at Summit Business Media. "His history with gold and silver mining stocks coupled with our other speakers will provide our attendees with the most well rounded views on the investment opportunities available in this sector."

Additional conference speakers include Ralph Aldis, Senior Analyst, US GLOBAL INVESTORS; Jeffrey Christian, Managing Partner, CPM GROUP; Kenneth Hoffman, Sector Head, Global Metals & Mining Research, BLOOMBERG RESEARCH; Kevin Quigg, Global Head of SPDR ETF Strategy and Consulting, STATE STREET GLOBAL ADVISORS; and Nick Snowdon, Base Metals Research Analyst, Commodities Research, BARCLAYS CAPITAL.

The 2013 Metals & Minerals Investment Conference takes place Monday, May 13-Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at the New York Marriott Marquis. This educational investment conference focuses on educating investors about opportunities in the natural resources sector. The conference is open to all professional investors, wealth managers, portfolio advisors and individual investors interested in learning how incorporating natural resources can strengthen portfolio success. The House’s new Ron Paul

Posted: April 2, 2013 at 3:50 am

When it comes to the House of Representatives, Justin Amash is the new Ron Paul.

The Michigan congressman, only 32, sees himself as a leader of the second generation of Paulites in the lower chamber. Sen. Rand Paul moved quickly to present himself as his dads heir to libertarian faithful in recent months, but many in the movement see Amash as even purer than the younger Paul, and hes gotten rave reviews for explaining all his votes on Facebook.

Now, with the opening of a Senate seat in Michigan, Amash must decide whether to pursue his dream of one day winning a spot in House leadership or to take a chance at winning statewide and risk losing it all.

Part of his calculus is that the Senate already has Rand Paul of Kentucky, Ted Cruz of Texas and Mike Lee of Utah. While he sees the complexion of the Republican conference becoming more libertarian in the years to come, he knows there are still not that many high-profile, libertarian-friendly representatives.

(Also on POLITICO: Budget discord: What happens now?)

President Barack Obama carried his state by 9 points, even as Amash won a second term in his Grand Rapids district once held by Gerald Ford by 9 points.

If I feel like I can make a bigger impact in the Senate, then thats something I would certainly take a look at, Amash said in an extended interview in his House office last week. But its gone Democratic in a lot of federal elections, so you have to consider it very carefully.

With the elder Pauls retirement at the end of the year, Amash has taken on a more visible role in the House.

Republican leadership booted him off the Budget Committee in December. The purge elevated his stature on the right as a martyr who was willing to stand up to the establishment, even though members of the steering committee said he was not removed because of votes he took but for publicly taking whacks at other Republicans who voted with the team.

Former US Rep. Ron Paul coming to speak at UF

Posted: at 3:44 pm

Former U.S. Representative, presidential candidate and physician Ron Paul will speak at UF on April 15.

During his three-decade political career, Paul ran for president three separate times, most recently in 2012. Pauls son, Rand Paul, headed a nearly 13-hour filibuster earlier this month.

Hosted by Accent Speakers Bureau, Paul will speak at the Stephen C. OConnell Center on Tax Day.

It was just a coincidence that he happened to be available on Tax Day, said Accent chairman Josh Holtzman.

This certainly enhances the event because so much of what he talks about has to deal with taxing and economic issues facing the country. Its probably the best day to hear him speak.

The doors open at 7 p.m., and the event begins at 8 p.m.

Paul will be paid $55,000 to come speak about the causes and solutions of the political economic situation, said Holtzman, a 22-year-old UF political science and history senior.

Admission is free.

It will be first-come, first-served seating.

Holtzman said the Q-and-A portion of the night could get controversial.

Libertarian leader Ron Paul to address UF audience

Posted: at 3:44 pm

Published: Monday, March 25, 2013 at 4:59 p.m. Last Modified: Monday, March 25, 2013 at 4:59 p.m.

Ron Paul, whose campaigns for president on the Libertarian and Republican tickets galvanized voters seeking limited government and individual freedoms, will be speaking at the University of Florida on April 15.

Paul, a physician and former congressman, will be at the O'Connell Center as part of the ACCENT Speaker's Bureau, it was announced on Monday.

Long known for his strong support for a limited role of government and protection of personal freedoms, Paul will speak to the UF audience about how his ideologies have developed over the years.

Paul, 77, served in the House representing Texas districts from 1976 to 1977, from 1979 to 1985 and from 1997 until January 2013.

In 2011, Paul announced that he would not seek re-election to his House seat in order to focus on his presidential bid. His campaign never gained sufficient traction during the Republican primary season and he went to the convention with 190 delegates.

Paul previously ran for president in 1988 as the Libertarian Party candidate and again in 2008.

The program will include a question-and-answer session.

Doors open at 7 p.m., and admission is free and open to the public.

Silver Circle Writes a Crude Valentine to Ron Paul

Posted: March 22, 2013 at 4:43 pm

Set in the near future yet animated in the video-game style of the recent past, Silver Circle draws a story of dystopic federal corruption from the economic woes of the present. In the 2019 imagined by debut director Pasha Roberts and screenwriter Steven Schwartz, the Federal Reserve is running the country, the dollar has succumbed to inflation, and a rebel movement has begun minting its own silver. The seizure and subsequent bombing of a Washington, D.C., housing development opens the film, which Roberts claims in the press notes already has an online following among its intended audience of "comic book fans, silver/gold investors, and the libertarian-esque crowd." For everyone else, the charms of what might charitably be called Silver Circle's homemade look and feel are limited. Considered as agitprop, it certainly has paranoid flair: Assigned to investigate the bombing, Federal Reserve gumshoe Jay Nelson (De'Lon Grant) meets hottie protester Zoe (Philana Mia), and together they uncover a sadistic government body and the private crematorium used to handle its many casual assassinations. More awkward than unsettling ("What are you, some rebel whore?" a confused Jay asks Zoe. "Don't ever call me that!"), Silver Circle is a crude valentine to Ron Paul and his extended family.
