Over the weekend, Ron Paul lost attempts to claim two namesake domains, RonPaul.com and RonPaul.org, both of which belong to a group of ardent, Panama-based fans of the twelve-term Texas congressman. Case documents show Paul was also found guilty of "reverse domain name hijacking" because he ignored an offer by the owners to give him RonPaul.org for free.

Instead, Paul took his complaint to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), a United Nations agency, which dismissed his suits.

But Paul appears undeterred at his losses, with spokeswoman Megan Stiles telling Whispers "While the ruling is disappointing, Dr. Paul is excited to launch his new personal website on another domain in the coming weeks." She declined to share what that domain would be.

Since retiring from Congress in January 2012, Paul has been ever more in need of his own website, having launched a non-interventionist think tank in April and become increasingly more active in Campaign for Liberty, a 501(c)4 group he founded in 2008 to maintain the grass-roots support built up during his presidential campaign that year.

Over on RonPaul.com, supporters remain incredulous that Paul, who has long been critical of the United Nations, would go through a U.N. agency to take websites from his supporters.

"I have been a major fan of Ron Paul since 2007 but for the first time this has me asking 'Who is the real Ron Paul?'" wrote one commenter. Tim Martin, an owner of RonPaul.com, wrote that "we're expecting to wake up any minute now and find out that this was all a big misunderstanding."

New York (Kitco News) - Gold's recent ups and downs are simply keeping with its tradition of being volatile, said former U.S. congressman Dr. Ron Paul in an exclusive Interview with Kitco News.

"It is up and down, and it has been doing that a lot lately," Paul said. "If (investors) are in gold for a short time to make a quick killing that ought to make them very nervous," he said of gold's recent correction in April. Prices plunged 14 percent in the two sessions to April 15, the most since 1983, and hit a low of $1,321.95 an ounce on April 16.

The excitement and the concern surrounding gold is greater than the need to be so excited and concerned he said on the sidelines of the recent Metals and Minerals Conference in New York.

Paul said that historically there have been high periods of volatility but it is important to look past these short-term corrections. Looking back, Paul reflected that in the 1970s gold went up to almost $200 an ounce then plummeted back down to close to $100 an ounce two years later.

"Everybody thought the world had ended for gold, "he said. Paul added these should have been seen as simply corrections in a roaring bull market.

Soothing nervous investors Paul had this advice to offer, "I was told one time that you shouldn't be concentrating so much on the price of gold. What you should ask is, 'how many ounces of gold do you own?'"

Paul said investors should be prepared for the scenario of the US dollar being in "bad shape" - one needs to see if they have enough gold to cover themselves for that day "we all expect will come," he said.

On three occasions, Paul ran for the presidency of the United States: as the Libertarian Party candidate in 1988 and as a candidate in the Republican primaries in2008 and 2012. This past January, however he retired from his 23 years of service with Congress.

As a politician, rather than focusing on gold, Paul says he has spent most of his time watching the dollar.

Last we checked, Ron Paul had filed a lawsuit with the World Intellectual Property Organization (an agency of the UN, which he HATES) in an attempt to expropriate both RonPaul.com and RonPaul.org from his supporters. So how'd that all turn out for Paul? Not so well.

Both of the domain name disputes were dismissed because Paul still took his supports to court, even though they offered to give him the sites for free (they only requested compensation for their very sizable mailing lists).

Not only did Paul lose both domain name disputes, but he was also found guilty of "reverse domain name hijacking," which is essentially being found guilty of wasting the court's time.

The court wrote:

Respondent has requested, based on the evidence presented, that the Panel make a finding of Reverse Domain Name Hijacking. In view of the unique facts of this case, in which the evidence demonstrates that Respondent offered to give the Domain Name ronpaul.org to Complainant for no charge, with no strings attached, the Panel is inclined to agree. Instead of accepting the Domain Name, Complainant brought this proceeding. A finding of Reverse Domain Name Hijacking seems to this Panel to be appropriate in the circumstances.

Lesson: Don't ask the United Nations for help after you've spent a lifetime bad-mouthing them, and also don't waste their time with your frivolous lawsuits. In addition, don't alienate your supporters by appealing to an international governmental organization (which they HATE) in an attempt to screw them.

"Reverse domain name hijacking" carries no penalty, but it just sounds painful.
