Whether it can be Rand Pauls Republican Party is another question.

NATIONAL HARBOR, Md. Its still Rand Pauls CPAC. Whether it can be Rand Pauls Republican Party is another question.
A day after other Republicans tossed out hawkish lines that clashed with his own brand of more cautious foreign policy, the raucous response to Pauls Friday afternoon speech from a standing-room-only crowd proved that CPAC remains friendly territory for the Kentucky senator. As he warned against an inept government venturing overseas, he received standing ovations and supporters chanted President Paul.
Story Continued Below
But even Pauls supporters conceded that winning at CPAC is one thing, while winning the GOP 2016 nod is another.
As in years past, the libertarian-leaning Paul enjoyed organized and enthusiastic support among young CPAC attendees. The crowd at this event, however, is hardly representative of the broader GOP electorate. And Pauls views on national security, the war on drugs, and several other issues already put him at odds with multiple factions of the GOP including many older voters, a large and crucial constituency during the primaries and caucuses.

Ron Paul: Black lawmakers oppose war because they want the …
Posted: February 27, 2015 at 7:42 am
Former Texas congressman and three-time presidential candidate Ron Paul has long been one of the most vociferous opponents of interventionism in American foreign policy, but the libertarian-leaning conservative has some harsh i.e., racist words for some of his allies in that fight.
In an interview earlier this month with Lew Rockwell flagged today by BuzzFeeds Andrew Kaczynski and Megan Apper Paul asserted that members of the Congressional Black Caucus oppose military intervention abroad because theyd rather spend funds on food stamps than war.
I was always annoyed with it in Congress because we had an anti-war unofficial group, a few libertarian Republicans and generally the Black Caucus and others did not they are really against war because they want all of that money to go to food stamps for people here, Paul told Rockwell.
Paul proceeded to criticize Black Caucus members as ineffective advocates against war, arguing that too many of them voted for sanctions against U.S. adversaries, which Paul said never get the results that they thought there were going to get.
Listen to Pauls remarks below:

Rand Paul's balancing act: What to do with Ron Paul's legacy?
Posted: February 26, 2015 at 11:41 am
In 2012, Texas Republican Rep. Ron Paul was a force to be reckoned with in the presidential race. His group of supporters - including many young voters - was limited, but passionate. Though he wasn't considered a serious contender for the Republican nomination, he had a strong showing in both the Iowa caucus and New Hampshire primary, finishing third in Iowa with 21.5 percent of the vote and second in New Hampshire with 22.9 percent.
Now his son, Texas Sen. Rand Paul, is contemplating his own presidential bid. Both men come from the libertarian wing of the party, though Doug Wead, who has worked for both Pauls, calls the elder Paul a "classic libertarian" and the younger one a "practical libertarian."

And while Ron Paul was generally viewed as someone who ran for president to prove a point, his son could be a serious contender for the nomination. What he has to do is navigate the tricky dance of keeping his father's supporters engaged and on his side while attracting a whole other group of voters who might not have given Ron Paul a chance.
"His dad's base is not going to be enough,so he's got to find ways to expand the base and become, if not the favorite of different factions of the party, at least acceptable," University of New Hampshire Political Science Professor Dante Scala told CBS News. "He has to do that in such a way that doesn't make his father's base voters feel as if they're being betrayed or that Ron Paul's legacy is being compromised."
Politics isn't the first arena where Paul has followed in his father's footsteps. Like Ron Paul, who had a medical career that preceded his first run for office, Rand Paul also started out in the field of medicine. He was always active in politics, serving in the Young Conservatives of Texas club during college at Baylor University. He left for Duke University to attend medical school before completing his undergraduate degree, and he opened an ophthalmology practice in Bowling Green, Kentucky, after he completed his residency.
All the while, though, Paul was helping his father with his congressional campaign and 2008 presidential bid, and he started a group called the Kentucky Taxpayers Union in his home state. His rise coincided with the rise of the tea party in 2009, and in 2010 he defeated Kentucky Secretary of State Trey Grayson, the establishment pick for Kentucky's vacant Senate seat, to become a senator.

Kasich jokes: I get Rand 'confused' with Ron
Posted: at 6:43 am
Asked by CNN's Gloria Borger about Paul's comments that governors who expanded Medicaid under Obamacare think that "money grows on trees," Kasich replied, "You mean Senator Ron Paul?"
When Borger insisted she meant the younger Paul, Kasich joked that they were hard to tell apart.
"Oh, I get them confused sometimes," he said, laughing. "Ron and Rand, and I served with Ron."
Pressed by Borger on how he would respond to Paul's critique, Kasich said he had little to say to the senator. He suggested maybe Kentucky's residents weren't dealing with poverty or hunger the way those in other states are.
"I'm not sure I would say much to him. I mean I don't know what he, you know maybe he doesn't work in Kentucky, maybe everybody's fine, maybe there aren't people who are suffering these problems," he said in the interview, which airs in full on Sunday's "State of the Union."
Paul, gearing up for his own presidential campaign, has sought to distance himself from his more libertarian father, who's known for his controversial remarks and stances on hot-button issues.

But Paul has been one of the loudest voices in his party opposed to states' expansion of Medicaid using subsidies from Obamacare. A number of other potential Republican presidential contenders, including Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and former Texas Gov. Rick Perry, refused to expand the program.
Still, others including Kasich, who's seen as a possible contender himself agreed to take the federal funds to expand coverage.
He's forcefully defended the move, and recently said if the Supreme Court strikes down the subsidies Ohio would have to "figure something out" to provide coverage to Ohioans. And in his interview with Borger, Kasich noted that his state's economy seems to be doing just fine.
