'Deus Ex: Mankind Divided' trailer: post-post-human

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided TRAILER | PS4sonyplaystation
As had been widely expected, Square Enix has announced the return of legendary first-person RPG Deus Ex.
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided will pick up where 2011's Human Revolution left off, with a story that takes the series' focus on cybernetics and future tech to new limits. Set two years after the events of the previous game, human augmentation is no longer in its "golden era". Cyborgs like returning hero Adam Jensen are now "segregated and deemed as outcasts".
"Equipped with all new augmentations, Jensen will travel across the world to unravel a vast conspiracy involving secret organisations, which are working behind the scenes in an attempt to control the fate of mankind," Jean-Francois Dugas, Executive Game Director at Eidos-Montral, said in an announcement blog post.
In a glossy official trailer, Eidos-Montral showed off the new game's next-gen, 1080p graphics and hinted at the "story, gameplay, customisation or exploration" its developers say will be at the heart of the new game. As ever we'll have to wait and see what the game itself actually entails, but if nothing else the sight of Jensen splintering into golden triangles is certainly intriguing.
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is coming to PS4, Xbox One and PC at an unspecified date.

Have scientists genetically modified human embryos so changes are INHERITED?
Posted: at 5:40 pm
Scientists in China are believed to have altered the DNA of human embryos so that changes can be passed on to future generations in the germ line Leading researchers have called for a halt on such research until the implications and safety of the technology can be properly explored They warn germ line modification is 'dangerous and ethically unacceptable' Some fear the technique could be misused to create 'designer families'

Human embryos have been genetically modified so that any changes made will be carried on into future generations for the first time, according to scientists.
Researchers around the world are bracing themselves for the results of a study by scientists in China that has introduced DNA changes to reproductive cells.
Although the scientific paper is yet to be published, the scientific world is abuzz with rumours that the work has been carried out.
Many scientists have already reacted with horror at the idea, for fear it could be misused to allow parents to 'select' the genes they will pass on to their grandchildren.

Boko Haram fighters murdered women and girls they held as wives
Posted: at 5:40 pm
BERLIN The U.N.s human rights chief said Wednesday his office has received reports that Boko Haram fighters retreating from advancing military forces in Nigeria murdered women and girls they had taken as wives, along with other captives.
The recapture of parts of northeastern Nigeria in recent weeks has brought to light gruesome scenes of mass graves and further evident signs of slaughter by Boko Haram, Zeid Raad al-Hussein told a special session of the U.N. Human Rights Council in Geneva.
Zeid gave no further details of what he said were multiple reports of fighters killing their so-called wives in fact, women and girls held in slavery and other captives. Boko Harams reported use of children as expendable cannon fodder and human bombs would, if confirmed, constitute war crimes and crimes against humanity, he said.
Zeid said there also are persistent and credible reports of serious rights violations by Nigerian and other security forces responding to Boko Haram. He called for thorough and fully transparent investigations by authorities.
The Islamic extremist militants have terrorized northern Nigeria and also attacked towns in neighbouring countries, prompting nations in the region including Chad and Niger to put together a force to combat them.
Zeid said he is profoundly concerned about the growing ethnic and sectarian dimensions of the conflict.
Boko Harams original leader was from the Kanuri ethnic group, and the U.N. human rights office has received reports indicating that Kanuris are now considered suspect by some military personnel, resulting in arbitrary arrests and abuse, Zeid said.
Boko Haram, meanwhile, has begun targeting Nigerians of Shuwa Arab origin apparently in retaliation for their perceived support to the Nigerian armed forces, he said.
There is thus a high risk of escalating ethnic and religious violence, Zeid said. This can only be halted by principled leadership and clear instructions to military personnel, with appropriate accountability.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is coming soon to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC

Square Enix is busy torturing a guy in a room somewhereto get fans frothing over its next game reveal, but someone hasdecided to spoil Squares fun and leaked screenshots that almost certainly confirm that it isDeus Ex: Mankind Divided, the hotly-anticipated sequel to 2011sDeus Ex: Human Revolution. Therein lies the danger of taunting your fans like this, especially abouta game that involves so much hacking.
Updated on 4-8-2015 by Will Fulton: As expected,Square Enix has officially announced the game at the climax of the Cant Kill Progress Twitch stream. There is still no release window, but the description of the announcement trailer below promises that it is coming soon.
The images were leaked on a Russian website and then posted to NeoGAF. According to the accompanying text,Mankind Divided will come out for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. Human Revolution developer Eidos Montreal returns for the sequel.Game Informerwill share more particulars in its May cover story. There is no release date yet.
On Monday, Square Enix began a three-day, interactive Twitch reveal for something called Cant Kill Progress, in which a young man is being held and interrogated by men with Russian accents, at least one of whom has a robotic arm. The dehumanizing dangers of scientific progress is a major theme in the series, which led fans to speculate that Project CKP is in fact the new Deus Ex game, which had previously been announced as in the works.

Picking up where the last game left off,Mankind Divided will again follow angsty, white dude-borg Adam Jensen as he negotiates a future in which mankind is increasingly divided into castes of augmented and ordinary people. Tensions run high as augmented terrorists abuse their abilities for personal gain, stirring up increasing mistrust of all cyborgs among the normal population. Jensen will team up with an Interpol-backed task force to bring these terrorists down.
There will be new abilities like a blinding smokescreen or a short-term, bullet-deflecting nano-shield.
Like the previous game, Jensen will be able to acquire a wide variety of cybernetic enhancements and upgrades over the course of the game, catering to different tactical approaches to any given situation. In addition to familiar augments like increased jumping power and the ability to punch through walls, there will be new abilities like a blinding smokescreen or a short-term, bullet-deflecting nano-shield.
The developer is not planning to migrate save files from the previous game, and so the new story will be entirely agnostic to the possible choices and endingsinHuman Revolution. For instance, since it was possible that your pilot Malik died during a late game mission, you will necessarily have a new pilot, Elias, regardless of whether that happened in your particular game.
Deus Ex: Human Revolution was a fantastic return to one of the most sophisticated roleplaying games of all time, both thematically and gameplay-wise. While it is disappointing to see the return of boring, gravelly-voiced protagonist Adam Jensen instead of a woman and/or person of color, we are nonetheless very excited for a return to this particular gritty, cyberpunk future.

New anti-terrorism law a shocking onslaught against human rights: Amnesty
Posted: at 4:40 am
A new law that would allow terrorism suspects in Malaysia to be held indefinitely without charge, trial or judicial review, is a shocking onslaught against human rights and the rule of law, said Amnesty International.
Indefinite detention without trial is contrary to human rights law and it will not stop terrorism. Abandoning people to rot in a cell for years on end without a judicial process and proof that they have committed a crime is just like aimlessly stabbing in the dark. Authorities must ensure that human rights and fair trial guarantees are respected and protected, said Hazel Galang-Folli, Malaysia Researcher at Amnesty International.
Under the newly enacted Prevention of Terrorism Act (Pota), a board will be established to approve detention or restriction orders for individuals in the interest of security of Malaysia. A suspect can first be detained for 59 days without charge before being presented to the board.
This body, which will be appointed by the King and will be outside of the jurisdiction of any court, will have the power to renew detention orders indefinitely. Its decisions cannot be appealed.
The Pota is reminiscent of Malaysias Internal Security Act (ISA), abolished in 2012, which also allowed for indefinite detention without trial. The new law has not included the necessary safeguards to ensure fair trials and respect of human rights so it could be just as susceptible to abuse as the widely condemned ISA, which was used to unjustly detain government critics and created a climate of fear in the country for decades.
With the stroke of a pen, Malaysia has managed to get one step closer to becoming a human rights black hole where fundamental rights to a fair trial or freedom of expression and peaceful assembly, even if enshrined in the Malaysian constitution, are increasingly being undermined in the name of national security, said Hazel Galang-Folli.
Today, the Malaysian government also tabled amendments to the colonial-era Sedition Act, including increasing jail terms from three years to up to seven years on conviction and up to 20 years if a suspect is convicted of sedition with causing bodily harm or damage to property. The proposed amendments could also disallow bail for those charged.
In recent months, the Sedition Act has been used to arbitrarily arrest government critics including opposition leaders, human rights defenders, activists, journalists and human rights lawyers.
Authorities in Malaysia must immediately repeal the Prevention of Terrorism Act and the Sedition Act and release all those who have been detained under it only for expressing their opinions peacefully, said Hazel Galang-Folli.

Cybershaming and when it is OK to react to an offense
Posted: April 7, 2015 at 9:40 am
Some ideas are worth arguing about. But before you express outrage about that "offensive" social media post, remember the "offender" is a human being.
iStock
Internet outrage rages on, trampling victims as diverse as the conservative Christian owners of a small Indiana pizzeria who declared they would not cater a same-sex wedding to the hip, mixed-race South African comedian set to replace Jon Stewart on "The Daily Show."
Stewarts designated replacement, Trevor Noah, became center of controversy when people discovered some of the jokes he has made on Twitter were anti-Semitic and some mocked overweight women.
Noahs tweets, while inappropriate, raised questions about why politically incorrect statements create storms of outrage, especially on social media. The comedian defended himself via Twitter on March 31, writing, To reduce my views to a handful of jokes that didnt land is not a true reflection of my character, nor my evolution as a comedian.
Public shaming for unacceptable views doesnt come exclusively from the political left or right, and both liberals and conservatives engage in Internet outrage.
Christian blogger Timessa Lynn Leonard wrote for Relevant Magazine, In a world that encourages patience and acceptance, people sure can be touchy, particularly some Christians. Too many times, we can be like overeager watchdogs, sniffing out any morsel of what we deem as offensive, inappropriate or even heretical.
Its gotten to the point where its almost become trendy to be offended, Leonard wrote.
Christians offended by public discourse might remember Pauls statement about charity, found in Corinthians: Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity is not easily provoked.
Even within the Christian ideal of charity, Leonard acknowledges that sometimes speaking out about offenses is worthwhile.

New international Fantastic Four trailer shows Sue Storm and Human Torch flying

Home Movies New international Fantastic Four trailer shows Sue Storm and Human Torch flying
In the new Fantastic Four international trailer, we see Sue Storm and the Human Torch flying together for the first time as they smash through some massive rocks, and find out why their powers are needed.
Fox has released a really dramatic new Fantastic Four trailer for the international market, and it has some fun and different shots in it than the one we got for the first trailer. It shows Johnny and Sue Storm using their powers as they fly through some huge boulders and tells us a bit about the storyline.
Check out the new Fantastic Four international trailer below, where The Thing is also seen using his powers.
At the end of March, we got our first look at a poster which showed all of the Fantastic Four superheroes with their powers ready to fight, but this new trailer really shows that this movie could be a lot better than what a lot of fans were expecting.
While some were skeptical of this reboot, the new trailer is a great look at the characters and their abilities. The first trailer was a bit light on information, although we did find some Easter eggs in the trailer which gave us a bit more to think about.
Related: See the Easter eggs from the first Fantastic Four trailer
But, this new international trailer has Sue and Johnny flying around using their powers and The Thing breaking out of something. The voiceover is also great, as gives us a little insight into why the world will be needing the superheroes in the movie.
Weve been dying to see Kate Mara in something else since her departure from Netflixs House of Cards, and she certainly looks like she can pull off Sue Storm. It looks like Michael B. Jordan is entirely ready to rock as the Human Torch, and Miles Teller put in a stellar performance in this past years Whiplash, so we look forward to seeing what he can do as the team leader.
We finally see Jamie Bell as The Thing (at least moving), and so far it looks like theyve done a good job with the CGI in the Fantastic Four reboot. The films villain, Victor Von Doom, will be played by Toby Kebbell, but weve yet to see any images of him yet either, and he wasnt in todays new trailer.

The Quest to Push a Human-Powered Bike to 90 MPH
Posted: April 4, 2015 at 4:41 am
If Todd Reichert cannot regain control of his ultrafast bike, he will be cast at 75 mph into the unforgiving rock and scrub that lies beside the highway in the Nevada desert.
Reichert is familiar with extreme situations: the 32-year-old aerospace engineer and athlete was co-designer and pilot of the first human-powered ornithoptera craft that flies by flapping its wingsto soar continuously, and the first ever human-powered helicopter to become airborne. These remarkable feats have earned him hundreds of thousands of dollars in prize money and the backing of Google. But todays attempt to break the world speed record for a human-powered vehicle is going seriously awry.
Reichert wouldnt be the first man to perish in this dust-blown corner of northwest Nevadas rough sierras. At an elevation of more than 4,500 feet, the valleys burn beneath treeless peaks. In the 19th century, California Trail pioneers succumbed to thirst and disease here, or were shot by Native Americans. One such bloody skirmish gave a name to the range and the small town that sits beneath it on Interstate 80: Battle Mountain.
Aerovelo engineer Todd Reichert. Chris Crisman/WIRED UKUntil now, though, no one has contrived to perish in a fibreglass egg. Its Saturday, September 13, the last day of the World Human Powered Speed Challenge (WHPSC), and the egg in question is the ultra-lightweight speed bike Eta. Before he got in, Reichert, the joint leader of Canadian team AeroVelo, described Eta as very, very fastit could be the fastest man-powered vehicle on Earth. The claim is based on experience: AeroVelo first competed at Battle Mountain in 2011 where the team set a new college record of 116.9 kph (72.63 mph). The following year they entered Bluenose, a bike that reached 125 kph (77.67 mph).
A few seconds ago, this ingenious machine was hurtling along a dead straight section of Highway 305, but now it is swerving violently from right to left across the Tarmac.Named after the Greek letter symbolising the efficiency of power supply, Eta uses only four gears to transfer the energy produced by a human pedaling two 26-inch wheels fitted with handmade tubular tires. The vehicles ovular appearance results from its two-part fairinga structure fitted in order to increase streamliningthat has been designed using computational fluid dynamics to have 100 times less drag than modern cars.
The other 11 entrants in the challenge include near-professionals such as the Netherlands Human Power Team, a joint effort by Amsterdam and Delft Universities, and the amateur but manically enthusiastic Tetiva team from Russia. The young Dutch team hold the current record of 133.8 kph (83.13 mph) set at Battle Mountain in 2013 by Sebastian Bowier in Delft VeloX 3.
Where else, Reichert says on the eve of the teams 1,677-mile drive from Ontario to Nevada, will you see 19-year-olds making history?
But AeroVelo has a wider brief than world records. Established in 2010 by Toronto University graduates Reichert, 32, and Cameron Robertson, 27, the teamfrom the engineering and aerospace departmentwants to demonstrate the potential of human-powered vehicles in a world facing grave energy, transport and climate crises. Over the past few years, Robertson, who is the calmer and more professorial of the two, and Reichert, a fizzing cocktail of dash and intellectual curiosity, have established a production cycle: in winter, with the help of aerospace department PhD Victor Ragusila, they work on the design and planning of a project; in summer they take on a group of engineering and aerospace students and set them the task of building the project from scratch.
Many of the 2014 teamTrefor Evans, Sherry Shi, Calvin Moes, Marc Jutras, Thomas Ulph, Peter Wen and Alex Selwahave worked on previous AeroVelo projects. Although Reichert will do most of the runs, Evans and Moes too will pilotEta; Reicherts energies must be rationed if he is going to surpass 133.8 kph. Privately the team are aiming for 140 kph (86.99 mph) and think that it may be possible to reach 145 kph (90 mph). Reaching that speed would smash a record usually broken in tiny incrementsin 2013 Bowier broke the previous one by less than a second.
Reichert and Robertson met playing rugby for Toronto Universitys engineering department and first worked together in 2006, when Reichert and the universitys Human-Powered Vehicle Design Team attempted to build the first successful ornithopter. Four years of development and several crashes brought them to their final prototype, Snowbird. Made from carbon fibre, balsa wood and foam, it was essentially one very long wing (105 feeta Boeing 737 has a 112-foot wingspan) attached to a pod in which Reichert operates a customizedrowing-machine mechanism. On August 2, 2010, at Torontos Great Lakes Gliding Club, Snowbird flew for 9.3 seconds, at a height of 9 feetfor a distance of 475 feeta feat recognised by the Fdration Aronautique Internationale as the first man-powered ornithopter flight.

Protest against varsity V-C
Posted: at 4:40 am
Members of civil society organisations and various political outfits on Thursday staged a demonstration in front of the Head Post Office here.
They demanded the Union Human Resources Development (HRD) Ministry to immediately intervene and remove Pondicherry University Vice-Chancellor Chandra Krishnamoorthy.
The agitators led by G. Sugumaran, Secretary, Federation for Peoples Rights, said that a professors association had questioned her credentials to hold the post and also sought a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) enquiry into various irregularities reported in the University.
The agitators also demanded that the University authorities initiate disciplinary action against three employees of the University for assaulting an activist of Periyar Dravida Kazhagam while he had put up posters condemning the Vice-Chancellor.
Agitators urge Centre to remove Chandra Krishnamoorthy
