Four skulls that formed part of an altar made of human bones from the Late Post-Classical period (1350-1521) have been found during the construction of a new Mexico City metro line.

The skulls are from two men, one woman and a dog, Mexico's National Anthropology and History Institute, or INAH, said in a communique.

One of the men is estimated to have been between 25 and 35 years of age at the time of his death. The other man is believed to have been aged under 35. The woman was estimated to be between 18 and 22 years old, and her skull had been intentionally deformed, INAH said.

The finds were made between October 2008 and August 2012 along a 24.5km stretch of Metro Line 12's route, where other archaeological objects were also found, INAH said.

Much evidence of pre-Columbian settlement in the region has been detected during various construction work. Other archaeological items uncovered include houses, stone- and slab-lined canals, sculptures, ceramics and about 100 graves, most of them of infants.

The skulls each show perforations of the temples, an indication they had been placed on a rod to be displayed on a "tzompantli" (skull rack), where the skulls of sacrificial victims were commonly mounted. However, they were not part of a rack when unearthed, INAH said.

As for the dog skull, INAH said that it might be that dogs were connected with funerary rites, perhaps to accompany the souls of the dead to the underworld.

This is the first time that such a dog skull has been found with perforations showing that it was, at one time, displayed on a skull rack, INAH said.

Canada Post has once again put the stamp of change on Prince Edward Island.

Mail from P.E.I. will no longer bear a P.E.I. postmark now that it goes to Halifax for sorting, that is unless a person specifically requests it from Canada Post.

Earlier this year, people in P.E.I. began dropping their letters into one central Canada Post red box instead of having to deal with the old dual system one for P.E.I. mail and one for the mail destined for the rest of Canada.

Canada Post also shut down local mail sorting on P.E.I., meaning all mail is going through Halifax for sorting where its processed by a machine rather than by human hands.

If someone mails a letter in Charlottetown thats destined for Summerside, that letter has to go to Halifax first where a machine is sorting 25,000 to 35,000 letters per hour.

Phil Legault, media relations officer with Canada Post, said P.E.I. postmarks are still available on request.

Canada Post continues to have several specialty location and seasonal postmarks for P.E.I., such as the postmark for Anne of Green Gables, Legault told The Guardian by email. As another example, we have a postmark . . . for official first-day covers when stamps are launched and they have a connection to a location.

Legault said the new sorting system led to the change.

With the introduction of high-speed sorting equipment several years ago, Canada Post has standardized the cancellation information across the country, which includes coding but not the name of the city. The digital information now placed on mail makes the processing more efficient.

Legault said there have always been cases where people go to the post office and request a postmark. That will remain the case.

I have explored and written about posthuman ideas since the late 1980's and have discussed with many people the validity of particular views of the future. One debate concerns the Trans-human 500 year transition period claim versus the opinion shared by me that some of us in the developed world are already Posthuman(our skeletons are now a different shape from homo-sapiens of the C19th and C20th D-shaped not round). The Industrial Revolution was the trans stage. Posthuman NOW!!

Another topic concerns whether or not the Singularity idea is valid, and how many of Kurzweils predictions hold truth. No one of us has a complete and accurate picture of the future, and all of the competing options need space to develop. To this ends, I am making this page into a set of LINKS to a representative sample of various interested parties. Posthuman's output has evolved over the years, encompassing many genres & styles from their early electronica releases, to their later acid & slow-mo techno approach, with an overall signature sound of dark, brooding and melancholic sounds.

Their debut release in 2000 was a series of hand made CDs simply called "Posthuman" (though better known by the colour of the card inserts - grey, black, blue and brown) which were sold at live shows and via Rough Trade and Smallfish Records in London.

The duo then went on to host a number of parties in an abandoned underground train station in London between 2001 and 2004, and founded their own label Seed Records (2) with which they released 3 albums and several other releases of their own and other artists material. They also were the first act on Manchester based imprint Skam's SMAK sublabel.

Doherty left Seed Records to help relaunch UK techno imprint B12 Records in 2006, and started a new label Balkan Vinyl in 2010.

In 2007, Doherty founded London-based acid house retrospective clubnight "I Love Acid", where Posthuman are monthly resident DJs. He also performs as AGT Rave Cru.

Seed Records continues under the stewardship of Bevan and long time collaborator Bruce McClure.
