Most mothers can agree that having a baby forever changes your body, whether its fuller hips, a softer midsection or breasts that are never quite as perky as they once were. And we live in a culture where "getting your pre-baby body back" is assumed to be a nearly universal post-partum goal.
But some moms are just fine with their post-baby body, finding that with those changes comes a new kind of strength and an appreciation for what theyre physically capable of doing.
Although 70 percent of women said they feel worse about how their body looks after having kids, 30 percent of moms like their body better and feel more powerful and confident" in their looks, according to a 2013TODAY.com survey of more than 3,000 women.
I went through the body image thing a lot of girls go through in college, when I was fixated on my body and my weight, says Leslie Goldman of Chicago, mom of a 2-year-old daughter who is expecting her second child in six weeks. None of that was a part of my life after my late twenties, but postpartum is still so freeing and empowering for me to watch my body in a whole new light, healing from surgery and still producing food to feed my baby.

Almost Human Gets Canceled Is Fox Biased Against Sci-Fi?
Posted: at 5:43 am
It feels like weve been here before; Fox unleashes a high-concept look into the future or the unknown onto our television sets, only to pull the plug when said show eventually settles into a grey zone where it draws more than enough viewers to rise above the distinction of being labeled a bust, but well under what it would need to be declared a hit.
Producer JH Wyman worked on Fringe for 4 seasons, so he knows a little bit about that showsconstant struggle to stay on the air. One would forgive Wyman if he had hoped for an easier path to glory with Almost Human -a sci-fi procedural with outstanding chemistry between its stars (Karl Urban and Michael Ealy); a more accessible concept (an authority-bucking cop and his robot sidekick tackle crime in the technologically advanced future); and a broader sensibility. But maybe the show was too accessible.
Lets face it,Fringerequired discipline and dedication. If you missed an episode or a run of episodes, you had to catch up or you would be forever confused by the shows deeply woven twists and turns. In many ways, thats what networks crave appointment TV, like Lost but sometimes that feels like an obligation; and from the outside looking in, it can be imposing to think about giving a show like that a chance as a first-time viewer, when its already in the middle of its run.Almost Human, on the other hand, seemed like something you could miss for a week without getting lost but while that can be good for a viewer, it can also be bad for a show: with so many other options, viewers can lose their way back and forget about a show entirely.
This is all anecdotal, but it would seem like viewers did indeed forget about Almost Human as the season went on, with the show finishing up with a 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demo after drawing a 3.1 and 2.3 rating on successive nights when it premiered in two parts last November.
Its worth pointing out that, on average, Almost Human got better ratings than The Following, and Fox stalwarts like Bones and Glee, but its vital that we remember that each show lives in its own universe that is formed by its cost, momentum, acclaim, ownership, and nearness to syndication. So while its easy to point to Almost Human and think that the show got the short end of the stick by comparison, that determination is often made without examining the full picture.
Yes, The Followings ratings have been trending down all season, to the point where they are on par with Almost Human, butThe Following still generates a lot of buzz, its a season closer to syndication, and it almost certainly has to be cheaper for Fox and Warner Bros. to produce.
Really, despite the complaints that Fox has it out for sci-fi shows (do they, though? As many have pointed out, the network greenlights an awful lot of these shows), this is just business and Fox couldnt risk pumping more money intoAlmost Human only to see the shows ratings drop further, prompting an equally harsh end early next year. Is that kind of risk averse thinking a bit defeatist and do we long for the era when networks would allow shows to grow? A bit and of course, but in this climate, big projects need to get big results and that just didnt happen with Almost Human.

Another rape complaint was filed by a woman on Wednesday against Vhong Navarro amid the controversy involving the actor-host and model Deniece Cornejo, who has accused him of sexually assaulting her. The rape charge was filed around 4 p.m. at the Pasig City Prosecutor's Office by the alleged victim and her legal counsel, Atty. Virgilio Batalla. In a phone interview on "Aquino and Abunda Tonight" on Wednesday night, Batalla said the alleged rape took place in 2010. Dahil nakita niya na puwede palang mangyari ito nang paulit-ulit sa ibang babae katulad niya," he said, referring to the case of Cornejo. Cornejo filed a rape complaint against Navarro last January 29. In her affidavit, she claimed that the actor forced her to perform oral sex on him and tried to insert his penis in her vagina on January 22, the night the group of businessman Cedric Lee allegedly came to her rescue. Navarro denied this, saying he was set up by Cornejo for an extortion attempt allegedly led by Lee. The actor said he was blindfolded, tied up and attacked by at least six men inside Cornejo's condominium unit in Taguig. The actor has since filed six criminal charges against Cornejo and Lee's group: serious physical injuries, grave threat, grave coercion, unlawful arrest, blackmail, and serious illegal detention, which is a non-bailable offense. Lee, in a January 28 interview on radio DZMM, claimed that several other women aside from Cornejo were willing to come forward and say that Navarro also molested them. Asked by host Boy Abunda if he knows of ties between his client and Lee, Batalla said, "Wala po akong alam." Noting he cannot disclose his client's name without her consent, the lawyer added, "Ang kaso po ay nakasampa na at kami po ay naghihintay ng tamang proseso ng batas para magbigay ng detalye sa kasong ito." Navarro's lawyer, however, downplayed the new rape complaint. "Gusto lang namin sabihin na kahit naman sino ay puwede mag-kaso. Ang tanong ay kaya mo ba patunayan iyung paratang? May ebidensya ka ba?" Atty. Alma Mallonga said in a separate interview on "Aquino and Abunda Tonight." She said the filing was "not unexpected." Mallonga questioned the motive and timing of the new complaint. "Some weeks ago, Cedric (was) saying that he's been talking to some women and I understand that his lawyer has said na mayroon silang pasabog," Mallonga revealed. "Hindi kami nagulat kasi intindi pa nga namin that this is just the first of others," she added. Mallonga also responded to speculation that the new case was inspired by Cornejo's allegations against the actor. "If you're saying that you were inspired by the rape complaint of Deniece, alam na natin na hindi iyun nangyari. Impossible dahil nakita natin sa ating dalawang mata na hindi iyon nangyari, that you cannot rape who was not there. You cannot witness a rape when the victim is not even there," she said. Mallonga said Navarro is aware of the new case and the actor is keen on facing the charges and proving his innocence. "This has made him more determined to see this thing through," she said. The Department of Justice's second hearing on the cases filed by Navarro and Cornejo is scheduled on February 21. Human rights groups demand answers after Erykah Badu performs for Swaziland dictator
Posted: at 9:40 am
Human rights groups are crying foul after American R&B singer Erykah Badu sang Happy Birthday and gave gifts to Africas last absolute monarch, King Mswati III of Swaziland.
The 43-year-old Texan attended the kings 46th birthday party on Thursday, where she sang Happy Birthday and dedicated her first song to the sons of Kings, The Washington Post reported.
The singer gave Mswati a gift of a $100 note and a special stone which she said would uplift His Majestys spirits when he was feeling down, the Swazi Observer reported.
Miss Badu has been involved in a number of philanthropic ventures, including Artists for a New South Africa, which works to advance human rights, but human rights groups are calling her visit to Swaziland hypocritical.
Jeffrey Smith, an advocacy officer at the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights, told The Post that it was highly unfortunate that someone of Erykah Badus international stature would use her star power for inherently reprehensible reasons namely, to provide legitimacy, and, in a sense, endorse a brutal dictator who both manages and directs every facet of Africas last absolute monarchy.
Journalist Bkheki Makhubu and human rights lawyer Thulani Maseko are currently imprisoned in Swaziland. They are on trial for contempt of court after calling the independence of Swazilands judicial system into question in a series of articles in The Nation, the countrys only independent media outlet, the Human Rights Foundation reported.
The authenticity of Badus philanthropic efforts is called into question by her celebration of Mswati, said the foundations director of institutional affairs, Alex Gladstein, in a press release. She claims to want to improve the lives of the disenfranchised and impoverished, but unapologetically does favors for a corrupt tyrant who jails those who challenge his ill-gotten wealth and power. She should be the first in line asking the king to release Makhubu and Maseko.
She owes us all an explanation, Mr. Gladstein said in the statement. The king is a kleptocrat who lives in the lap of obscene luxury while most of his countrymen toil in abject poverty for less than $2 a day. Badus performance for him is a slap in the face of all human rights defenders inside Swaziland and is a mockery of Badus work inside the U.S.
The United Nations says 63 percent of the kingdoms population live on less than $1.25 a day, and allegations of torture and other human rights abuses are widespread.
On Monday, Miss Badu tweeted: I have no political affiliation to anything besides my AFRO. However, I will stand with any group opposing injustice. But not on twitter.
