Indonesia's President-elect Joko Jokowi Widodo is pushing for legal instruments that will allow the establishment of an ad hoc human rights court to hear cases of past human rights violations.

Andi Widjajanto, a deputy of the Jokowi-Jusuf Kalla transition team in charge of the issue, said on Monday that regulations being drafted by Jokowis transition team included a presidential decree to hear cases of human rights violations that took place during the 1998 May riots and a government regulation in-lieu-of law (Perppu) to address the establishment of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (KKR) to bring about solutions to a number of past human rights abuses.

We have been reaching out to human rights campaigners for the details, Andi told the press at the transition team headquarters in Central Jakarta on Monday.

Jokowi is committed to resolving human rights violation cases.

Jokowi repeatedly pledged to resolve the 1998 cases, as well as other past rights abuses, during his presidential campaign, a move that apparently earned him support from human rights activists.

Losing presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto, who has been accused of being responsible for the forced disappearances of several activists during the riots in Jakarta in 1998, on the other hand, tried to leave the matter off the agenda during his campaign.

DAVAO CITYHuman rights group Karapatan lambasted a military general for sowing Palparan-style terror in Kapalong town.

Over the weekend, Karapatan Secretary General Cristina Palabay, in an emailed statement, said that human rights violations in Mindanao continue to rise even with the incarceration of what they call the Butcher, military retired general Jovito Palparan.

Gen. Palparan may be in jail, but his trained dogs, Brig. Gen. Ricardo Visaya and Gen. Eduardo Ao are sowing terror in Mindanao, Palabay said.

Karapatan blamed 10th IDs Maj. Gen. Eduardo Ao of hamletting a village in Kapalong town, Davao del Norte.

Ret. Gen. Palparan was linked to various abuses allegedly committed by the military in the course of its counter-insurgency operations in Luzon and Visayas.

According to Karapatan, hamletting is the practice of placing a community in direct and strict military control. This includes, among others, imposition of curfew hours, listing of names per household, controlling the mobility of people in and out of the hamlet.

Karapatan said government forces allegedly encamped a public school and a church in Sitio Kapatagan, Brgy. Gupitan, Kapalong, Davao del Norte last July 18.

Elements of the 60th IB ransacked the house of Purok leader Mario Liban and took his stock of rice. The incident came after the New Peoples Army released its prisoner of war Col. Rogelio Rosales in Kapalong, Davao del Norte, according to Karapatan.

The human rights group said that on July 20, additional 40 soldiers of the 60th IB arrived in Sitio Mangkay in Kapalong. Helicopters landing on the fields to deliver supplies for the soldiers ruined the crops of the farmers. The soldiers harassed the tribal chief Datu Herminio Suminggil by forcing him to tell where the NPA fighters are.

The 60th IB arrested the couple Jerry and Tata Antonio in Sitio Mangkay and forced them to admit that they were involved in the NPAs capture of Col. Rogelio Rosales, Palabay said.

Another proof of what Malaysia is up to ? When the sunni muslims who are the same as the sunni muslims in Malaysia is, while the world condemns the Jihadist for beheading the journalist they may not be aware (what) the sunni muslims in Malaysia is even doing When these sunni muslims in Malaysia are (going after) the shiite muslims in this country, (and) the journalists and even the lawyers for reporting the truth and also all the (wrongdoings) in this country.

Just remember Israel does not forbid the shiite or the sunnis for embracing or practicing their own religion or beheading a journalist from reporting the truth of what is happening.

(Here) they dont permit the Christians in Malaysia from terming God as Allah. How come the muslims, for example, in Indonesia or India many times the size of Malaysia dont do that(?)
