7 Speed Reading Editors Reveal The Man That Introduced Human Rights To The World In Blog Post, eReflect Confirms

(PRWEB) November 24, 2014

7 Speed Reading software designer eReflect shares an inspiring, educational video on the history of human rights and their role as the foundation for a sustainable society. eReflect directs readers to a video on Cyrus the Great, a man that back in 593 B.C. introduced for the first time whats considered to be the oldest charter of human rights. As the video presented on the 7 Speed Reading website illustrates, one of Cyrus the Great's biggest achievements was his declaration that all slaves were free, and that humans were essentially equal and free to choose whichever religion they wanted. These declarations are found in the Cyrus Cylinder, which may be the oldest declaration of human rights.

eReflects learn to speed read software helps people improve the important skill of reading so that they can educate and empower themselves and reach their full potential in terms of capacities, talents, and aspirations. Literacy is an important skill that helps people who are deprived of their human rights and privileges to empower themselves. It helps people to find the means to assert and uphold their human rights and enjoy the freedoms everyone else does.

From being treated as equal to being able to speak up without any censorship, human rights are inalienable birthrights for every human on the planet. As eReflect reminds readers, "Human rights are not selective, they apply to every single person that lived, lives and will ever live on Earth and its the basis civilization and societies are built upon. Human rights are permeated by the mutual understanding that people share the same privileges and have the same needs. Some of the most notable human rights are the right to live safe and free, the right to be equal before the law, the right to own property, and the right to take part in peaceful meetings.

Even though human rights are more than 2000 years old, war, conflict, and other disasters still deprive many people of their inalienable rights. These rights, when universally applied and respected, can establish long-lasting peace, justice, and prosperity in the world.

Fin24.com | SA Post Office threatens to sack workers

Posted: November 23, 2014 at 7:41 pm

2014-11-23 15:45 - Mamello Masote, City press

Post box. (Duncan Alfreds, Fin24)

Johannesburg - The SA Post Office has threatened to dismiss workers who dont return to work immediately, reported City Press.

Simo Lushaba, who has been tasked with saving the ailing parastatal, said: We urge all the remaining employees to return to work immediately so as to proceed with the task of rebuilding the SA Post Office.

"Failure to heed this call will result in the implementation of the human resources dismissal procedures with effect from Monday [November 24].

The Post Office reached an agreement on a salary increase with two of the three recognised labour unions: the SA Postal Allied Workers Union and the Democratic Postal and Communications Union, which together represent 50% of the employees in the bargaining unit.

They agreed to a 6.5% wage increase, effective next month. The Communication Workers Union (CWU), which represents 39%, is holding out for a 7.5% increase backdated to April.

Lushaba said it is impossible to agree to CWUs terms given the Post Offices financial situation.

According to Lushaba, the Post Office has begun sorting and distributing mail again. Major mail sorting centres in Gauteng that were hardest hit by the strike Witspos and Tshwane Mail are now 100% staffed and operational, he said.

The Polokwane and Welkom mail sorting centres have resumed operations. But the Germiston and the Johannesburg International Mail centres are not working to full capacity.

Study: Text neck becoming an epidemic

Posted: at 7:41 pm

By Lindsey Bever, Washington Post

The human head weighs about a dozen pounds. But as the neck bends forward and down, the weight on the cervical spine begins to increase. At a 15-degree angle, this weight is about 27 pounds, at 30 degrees its 40 pounds, at 45 degrees its 49 pounds, and at 60 degrees its 60 pounds.

Thats the burden that comes with staring at a smartphone the way millions do for hours every day, according to research published by Kenneth Hansraj in the National Library of Medicine.

The study will appear next month in Surgical Technology International. Over time, researchers say, this poor posture, sometimes called text neck, can lead to early wear-and-tear on the spine, degeneration and even surgery.

It is an epidemic or, at least, its very common, Hansraj, chief of spine surgery at New York Spine Surgery and Rehabilitation Medicine, told the Washington Post. Just look around you, everyone has their heads down.

Cant grasp the significance of 60 pounds? Imagine carrying an 8-year-old around your neck several hours per day.

UN committee resolution could refer North Korea rulers to International Criminal Court

Posted: at 8:40 am

Special to WorldTribune.com

By John J. Metzler

UNITED NATIONS Its one of the tougher warnings the world community has sent to the neo-Stalinist regime in North Korea; a detailed condemnation of widespread human rights abuses in the reclusive communist country and, as significantly, a call that the Case and the regime leadership be eventually referred to the International Criminal Court in the Hague.

The vote in the UNs Third Committee (Political) sent a resounding message; 111 in favor, 19 against, and 55 abstentions.

Supporting the resolution were the Americans, European Union countries, South Korea, Japan and other democracies. Opposition came from the DPRKs ideological comrades such as China, Cuba, Russia, and Venezuela along with the usual suspects as Myanmar (Burma), Uzbekistan, and Zimbabwe. The abstentions were cast by India, Indonesia, and South Africa.

Though the vote is not legally binding, the measure sends a strong political message to Pyongyang. This is the tenth year a vote on DRRK human rights has been held.

A tough European Union/Japanese draft resolution co-sponsored by 62 other countries including the USA, South Korea and Australia sets in motion a process which while condemning the quaintly titled Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea (DPRK) , equally opens the door to possible prosecution of the Pyongyang rulers in the ICC.

Finally, the UN has sent a message today that North Korean rulers who starve and enslave their own people must be held accountable, opined Hillel Neuer of UN Watch, a Geneva based human rights watchdog.

First however, and this is the key, the case must pass the UN Security Council where such a censure would likely be vetoed by Mainland China.

NYC bistro fined $5,000 for 'hostess' ad

Posted: at 8:40 am

The owner of an Italian bistro on New York's Upper East Side says the city's Human Rights Commission is targeting business owners who unintentionally use gender-based language in job ads, the New York Post reported Friday.

Giuseppe Bruno's restaurant, Sistina, was fined $5,000 for a Craigslist ad that read "Hostess/coat check needed. Reliable, personable, organized." The commission said the ad violated the city's civil rights law, which bans gendered language in employment ads.

"This is an outrage. I'm not going to settle. I didn't do anything wrong," Bruno told the Post. "It's possible we made a mistake, but we got no warning."

State Sen. Jose Peralta said many of the cases don't come out of actual complaints, but rather from college students getting paid by HRC to troll online classifieds.

Bruno's assistant, who posted the online ad, says she received two responses via e-mail from one male and one female, who were actually testers for the commission. According to the complaint, the restaurant only opened the e-mail from the female respondent.

Bruno hopes to get off with a warning, but a commission s pokeswoman told the Post that warnings are not a part of its mission.

Poop-powered bus hits British roads

Posted: at 8:40 am

The U.K.s first poop-powered bus hit the road this week, ferrying fare-paying passengers around parts of south-west England.

But banish from your mind the image of a vehicle kitted out with toilets for seats, with a bus-load of passengers happily knocking one out to get the thing to the next stop. The reality is a little different.

This one runs solely on biomethane gas generated from human sewage and food waste. The 40-seat Bio-Bus to give it its official name can travel up to 184 miles on a single tank of the gas, which is generated via a treatment process known as anaerobic digestion.

Gas production has proved so successful that some of it is also being injected into the national grid by a recently constructed state-of-the-art facility.

The green energy initiative, which is the work of Wessex Water and treatment-plant operator GENeco, is able to produce 17 million cubic meters of biomethane a year, equivalent of meeting the power needs of 8,500 homes, according to Wessex Water.

Wessex Waters vehicle, affectionately known as the poo bus, produces fewer, ahem, emissions than regular diesel engines, and therefore helps to improve air quality in urban areas. Speaking of air quality, smelly impurities are removed from the gas to ensure the bus doesnt kick up a stink among those living along its route.

The special bus is being used to transport around 10,000 passengers a month between Bristol airport and the historic city of Bath 20 miles away. The initiative comes afterBristol was crowned the European Green Capital for2015 after impressing judges with its consistently high environmental standards.

Charlotte Morton, chief executive of the Anaerobic Digestion & Bioresources Association (ADBA), said GENecos Bio-Bus clearly shows that human poo and our waste food are valuable resources. Food which is unsuitable for human consumption should be separately collected and recycled[and]not wasted in landfill sites or incinerators.

Meanwhile, GENeco general manager Mohammed Saddiq said he believes gas-powered vehicles have an important role to play in improving air quality in U.K. cities, adding, But the Bio-Bus goes further than that and is actually powered by people living in the local area, including quite possibly those on the bus itself.

The U.K.s first poop-powered bus reminds us ofthe poop-powered motorcycle which landed on Japanese roads a couple of years back as part of a green initiative run by toilet-maker Toto.
