"The Liars, or My Uncle’s Farm"- By Golden and Hughes, c.1914-16 – Video

"The Liars, or My Uncle #39;s Farm"- By Golden and Hughes, c.1914-16
This is a Victor record, "The Liars, or My Uncle #39;s Farm", by Billy Golden and Joe Hughes from 1914-16. Yes, this is rather politically incorrect to 2012 standards, but Billy Golden was a blackface performer since about 1880 and recording artist since 1895, and did this for a living. I didn #39;t even know who was on this record when my mother played this for me when I was really little, neither did she know! But now I can tell THEM about the record, and in more specific detail. This is the only record we have of Mr. Golden. Enjoy!From:ramonasidneybakerViews:1 0ratingsTime:03:22More inMusic

Davidson: Seven 'sharp cookies' honored at Girl Scouts' Thin Mint Dinner in Denver

It's probably politically incorrect to call them "sharp cookies," but we're going to do it anyway.

The seven exceptional Women of Distinction honored by Girl Scouts of Colorado at the 2012 Thin Mint Dinner are just that.

Dr. Jandel Allen Davis, Peg Bradley-Doppes, Juanita Chacon, Tricia Downing, Melba Johnston, Denise O'Leary and Maren Stewart all have used their smarts to succeed in fields ranging from medicine to athletics and to pave the way for others to do the same.

Or, as former Colorado first lady Jeannie Ritter pointed out: The honorees, like the

Davis practiced obstetrics and gynecology for 25 years before becoming vice president of government and external relations for Kaiser Permanente Colorado; Bradley-Doppes, vice chancellor of athletics and recreation at the University of Denver, is one of the few women in a senior leadership role for athletics at a top-rated university; and Chacon, a member of the RE/MAX Realty Hall of Fame, has volunteered on behalf of 27 nonprofit organizations that focus on children, education and women.

Downing is an elite wheelchair athlete and the first paraplegic woman to compete in an Ironman triathlon; Johnston has been a Girl Scouts volunteer since the 1970s; O'Leary serves on three corporate boards, is a former Stanford University trustee and was recently elected to the board of the Bonfils-Stanton Foundation; and Stewart, chair of the Aurora Economic Development Council board, is president/CEO of LiveWell Colorado.

Susan Knox and Katherine Peck chaired the Thin Mint Dinner, which also had the unusual twist of a menu based on Girl Scout cookies. Scott Skomal, executive chef at the Sheraton Denver Downtown, used Savannah Smiles in the parmesan tuille that was part of the salad course; Tagalongs in the mole sauce for the breast of chicken entree and Samoas in the layered ice cream-and-cookie dessert.

The record 550 guests were welcomed by Stephanie Foote, the chief executive at Girl Scouts of Colorado; emcees were Cheryl Preheim of 9News and Marcelo Balboa of the Colorado Rapids.

Stark voters had some interesting write-in choices for president

Posted: at 11:42 pm

What do Barack Obama, Mitt Romney and Eric Cartman, the foul-mouthed and a politically incorrect school-age boy on the animated TV series South Park, have in common?

All three received votes for president in Stark County.

While Obama and Romney were the biggest vote-getters in this years election, five minor party candidates combined to gather more than 3,000 votes locally.

And, an even smaller number of voters actually took time to write or type the name of someone else.

Depending on your point of view, the selections were insightful, radical, silly or just plain dumb.

These according to actual ballots cast in the county on Tuesday are among the 242 write-ins, broken down by make-believe categories:

The messiah vote, a combined seven ballots for Jesus Christ, God, God and Jesus :), and YHWH.

The athlete vote, one apiece for race car driving icon Richard Petty, Pro Football Hall of Famer Emmitt Smith, Browns kicker Phil Dawson and New York Jets quarterback Tim Tebow.

The cartoon/puppet vote, included Tigger, Mickey Mouse, Cookie Monster, Donald Duck and three for Cartman.

The comedian vote, ballots for Lewis Black, Jay Leno, Bill Cosby and Jon Stewart.

‘Real Time With Bill Maher’ host bringing his politically charged stand-up to Akron

Posted: at 4:41 am

By John Benson Correspondent@News-Herald.com

HBO

Bill Maher

Just as an accountant is swamped every winter and spring, political comedian Bill Mahers busy season is the lead-up to Election Day.

Add in a presidential race where the narrative seemingly shifts daily, and Maher is in a fertile time with material galore. For the last 20 years, the New Jersey native and outspoken comic has combined funny and politics first on Politically Incorrect and then for the last nine years on HBOs Real Time With Bill Maher.

When Maher isnt featuring Real Time guests such as John Edwards, Ben Affleck, Robin Williams, Arianna Huffington, Alec Baldwin and Michael Moore, hes busy making documentaries (Religulous) or writing bestsellers (his most recent The New New Rules: A Funny Look at How Everybody but Me Has Their Head Up Their Ass).

Maher also stays busy touring, performing more than 50 dates a year around the country. This includes his return to Northeast Ohio Nov. 11 at E.J. Thomas Hall. Prior to the election, the News-Herald talked to Maher about his political comedy, the recent election and the future of the country.

The News-Herald: As a working comedian for more than 30 years, has your act always been dominated by politics?

Bill Maher: I was always interested in politics. The problem is that when youre in your 20s, the audience doesnt look at you like someone who has the authority to be talking about that subject. And very often theyre right. You kind of have to grow into it as you get older. But I grew up in a news family. My father was a radio news guy, and it was always what interested me. I was never interested in doing dog-and-cat material and small-observations-of-life kind of stuff. Thats what most of the comics were trying to do because they all wanted to be Jerry Seinfeld. They thought that was the quickest way to get on TV. Thats not what interested me. So I always talked about religion and politics and the stuff that gets people pissed off same as today.
