Gubernatorial candidates go viral after politically incorrect comments
Posted: at 10:42 am
CREATED May 15, 2014
The Idaho Republican Gubernatorial debate has gone viral, but not for statements made by the two frontrunners.
Perennial candidates Walt Bayes and Harley Brown spoke candidly, proudly speaking outside political correctness. Today, State Senator Russ Fulcher (R-Meridian), the top contender to Governor C.L. Butch Otter (R-Idaho) called the debate a "mockery" and blames it on Otter.
In a statement today he said:
Although they did not meet the debates qualifying criteria, Governor Otter demanded inclusion of two perennial candidates, Walt Bayes and Harley Brown, as a contingency of his participation in the only debate he would agree to. As a result, the debate turned from a serious discussion regarding the position for Idahos Chief Executive, to a mockery of the Republican Party and of Idaho. Clearly, the Governor wanted to take time away from me and minimize exposure to his failed record as governor. Apparently, Governor Otter is content to have Idaho be a laughing stock so long as it improves his chance of winning an election.
Senator Fulcher continued, Idahoans deserve better. A governor should be willing to hold himself accountable and face a legitimate challenger in a public forum. I have nothing against Mr. Brown or Mr. Bayes, but Governor Otter was well aware of the environment he would create when he demanded their inclusion as a contingency of his participation. When I am governor, I will not subject my party or my state to this type of public humiliation.
Governor Otter's campaign did provide a written response to On Your Side:
"A statewide debate that excludes candidates is an exercise in elitism. If some candidates don't meet your personal expectations, don't vote for them. But if they qualify to be on the ballot, they should be able to participate in the process."
A spokeswoman from Idaho Public Television told On Your Side Gov. Otter demanded all gubernatorial candidates be invited to the debate. Walt Hayes and Harley Brown would not have met the qualifications to participate otherwise.
The spokeswoman said Otter had made a similar request in 2010, and defended the decision, saying it gave Idahoans an opportunity to know candidates who would otherwise have a small outreach.

Idaho Republican governor primary debate goes crazy with politically incorrect biker (Video)
Posted: at 10:42 am
Politics in Idado doesnt typically attract national attention, but it does when a politically incorrect biker and an elderly curmudgeon get a platform to express their views. The biker, Haley Brown, and Walt Bayes, who looked like he was going to reenact the Civil War, are both running for the Republican nomination for governor and were the real stars of the debate on Wednesday.
Brown and Bayes drew attention from the mainstream candidates - incumbent Republican Gov. Butch Otter and state senator Russ Felcher - turning the debate into an Onion-esque parody of politics.
Brown made it clear that he stands against political correctness, which makes up a substantial portion of my political campaign. He then listed all the minorities that he likes to insult on social media.
It sucks. It's bondage, Brown said of political correctness, notes CNN. Brown showed up wearing his full biker uniform, including a cigar clearly in his shirt pocket.
The New York Daily News notes that Brown said he has a Master's in raisin' hell.
He continued, You bind those evil spirits behind the feds with the blood of Jesus, the name of Jesus, the power of entombment of the Holy Spirit, the power of agreement, the word of God. Take air superiority, and then roll in with your tanks on the ground, like ... lawsuits. Blitzkrieg!
As for Bayes, he wore a full beard and a brown cowboy shirt. He was particularly angry with Otters forest policy and the states decision to jail home-schooling parents.
Our forests are cut like somebody raising tomatoes: 'Well, they're purty red, don't pick 'em, Bayes told Otter.
Brown took control of the debate later and closed the event by saying that the Idaho governors office would be practice for his term as U.S. president.

Bill Maher You Cant Be Serious Your Defense of Donald Sterling on Any Level is Questionable
*With a reputation of being one of the most outspoken and politically incorrect commentators of our time without giving a damn, Bill Maher may have made the 2nd worst move of his career (read on to be reminded of the first) when he went out on a limb recently and pointedly defended disgraced L.A. Clippers owner Donald Sterlings rights to privacy and free speech.
He claimed that, in essence, if people like Sterling do not have the ability to say whatever they want no matter how deplorable it is in the privacy of their own homes, then that puts someone like him, who makes his living saying whats on his mind, in jeopardy.
During a discussion about the Sterling scandal on CNN Saturday, contributor Marc Lamont Hill countered Mahers point, saying the problem with his argument is that Sterling is not the owner of a private business, but rather, part of the larger NBA franchise system.
He has every right to say it, but the market has a right to respond and in this case the market has responded, Hill said of Sterling, noting the various sponsors that pulled their advertising from the Clippers in light of the owners racist rant. Thats why hes losing [the team] and thats why Bill Mahers argument doesnt hold up, he said.
I dont want to suggest that Bill Maher thinks those particular thoughts are OK from a moral or ethical perspective, Hill said later, but I think what Bill Mahers saying is, if I have thoughts like this, there has to be a space that I can utter them without fear of recrimination, especially if I dont put them in public.
Ben Ferguson also appeared on the CNN panel with Hill, and while speculating as to why Maher feels so strongly about this issue, reminded us of grave error #1 that cost Bill Maher his position on the prominent late-night show, Politically Incorrect, which he hosted on the Comedy Central network from 1993-2002.
Bill Maher has a little bit of an ax to grind when it comes to saying what you want to when you want to, he said, because he used to have a TV show and he said something politically incorrect after 9/11 and it cost him his job. And now hes at his new show, which is on HBO, but I mean, Im sure he doesnt like this.

Former CNN Anchor: Latinos Dont Matter to Race Alarmists at MSNBC
Posted: May 10, 2014 at 12:44 pm
Former CNN anchor Rick Sanchez wrote a piece for Fox News Latino Thursday about how Latinos dont matter to cable news networks, and he honed in on MSNBC in particular for crying foul about racism all the time, proven or unproven, but somehow finding nothing wrong with some rather politically incorrect Cinco de Mayo coverage.
MSNBC anchor Thomas Roberts did a brief bit earlier this week about Cinco de Mayo that involved a sombrero and tequila, and some Latino advocacy groups were outraged. In fairness, MSNBC and Roberts apologized, but Sanchez still found it abhorrent and suggests, All they needed to make it a little more insensitive and offensive would have been Speedy Gonzales, Jose Jimenez, and maybe Frito Bandito holding the microphone.
Sanchez points to MSNBCs Donald Sterling and last weeks controversial SNL sketch about slavery to argue that the NBC networks have displayed rather a profound ignorance about Latino issues.
In MSNBCs defense, they were just goofing on Mexicans. No one important. It wasnt real racism or sexism or homophobia. It was jalapeo and tequila jokes, not Donald Sterling statements.
And considering how much MSNBC sounds the alarms about racism, Sanchez observed, this is a particularly ironic situation.
How funny, ironic and sad that the network which cries the most about discrimination (racism, sexism, homophobia), day and night, true or false, proven or unprovenand uses racism charges as a bludgeoning tool against its political opponents and competing networksdoesnt see fit to care about the sensibilities of 17 percent of the U.S. population.
