Dimple Jhangiani loves being the vamp
Posted: May 24, 2014 at 7:41 pm
Mumbai: Dimple Jhangiani is not one to mince words. Unlike most of her contemporaries, the actress who plays Barkat in Beintehaa believes she is almost always politically incorrect. She admits that she loves playing the vamp who is out to dupe a rich family (in Beintehaa) its a pleasant break from the behenji lead role.
She says, I played the innocent, sympathy-gaining, glycerin-using lead, dressed in a sari and mangalsutra for a long time. Thankfully, my recent shows gave me the opportunity to do something different. In Pammi Pyarelal I got to wear short skirts and be a modern girl like I am off-screen. Beintehaa is a bit of a challenge. I am required to give vamp-like expressions, but my director says that my face is too innocent for that, so I have to make an extra effort at bringing out the right expressions.
While the rest of the cast has been shooting together for a long time, Dimple is a recent addition to the show. She says that she has made an effort to bond with the cast and tries to be cordial with everyone.
She says, Suchitra (Pillai) Maam and Naved Aslam Sir are sweethearts. They always make me feel comfortable on the sets. I also have a lot of fun with Harshad Arora and Vivek Madan. Harshad is sweet and when we have scenes together, I wink at him and he bursts out laughing in between shots. I do not interact much with Preetika Rao. Although Ive heard from other actors that she is insecure and jealous.
Though Dimple does not get along with all her co-stars, one co-star who has now turned into her BFF is Adaa Khan with whom she acted in Amrit Manthan. The duo played sisters in that show.
Dimple says, I am the kind of person who goes out of my way to make my co-stars feel comfortable. I do not like to fight or get into arguments with my co-stars. In fact, on days that I dont shoot, a lot of co-stars text me saying they missed their daily dose of laughter!
Speaking about her camaraderie with Adaa she says, When there were times that we both wanted to wear similar kind of outfits, Id tell her that she can carry on and that Id look for something else. It started out that way and soon we became friends. Just this week, I was shooting in Madh Island and there werent many food options in the area. Adaa drove all the way till there and brought me my favourite butter chicken and naan. After I left Amrit Manthan, Ankita Sharma replaced me. Both Ankita and Adaa couldnt see eye-to-eye they hate each other till date.
A former advertising professional she says, I have studied advertising and used to work at O&M. But soon I got bored of a nine-to-five job and started looking for alternatives. Luckily, my parents have always trusted my decision. Even if I come home at five in the morning after my shoot, they dont question me.
The actress is currently single but says that she would love to get hitched soon. In fact, she does not mind giving up her career after marriage.
She elaborates, I was dating someone for seven years but have been single for a while now!

How to Watch and Think about Alejandro Jodorowsky
Posted: at 8:42 am
Alejandro Jodorowsky in publicity photo from The Dance of Reality.
Is it time, or will there ever be a time, to reevaluate Alejandro Jodorowsky? The appearance of his new film, The Dance of Reality, along with the doc Jodorowskys Dune, is spurring a rash of Jodo appreciations and reconsiderations (including, in all places, the Miami Beach Cinematheque, where Im hosting a Jodo talk in June), and since at 84 the notorious charlatan has probably ejaculated his final mytho-anima warhead at us, the least we can do is attempt to account for his presence, and his perennial appeal. A unique cultural figure for almost a half-century, always dancing on the psychotropic fringes of cinema culture, Jodorowsky has never garnered a serious reputation as a filmmaker, but hes never compromised his unmistakable arsenal of manias, either, and hes never completely disappeared from view (despite distribution extinctions and industry skullduggery that wouldve buried someone less obsessive).
His remarkable career as a counter-culture provocateur and midnight-movie legend need not be revisited now, and neither, I think, do we need to shred his seven movies all over again for their very politically incorrect outrages, from strangely guileless exploitation of the handicapped to pure mucho-macho misogyny to the blithe butchering of hundreds of Mexican animals. (The rabbits alone...) Jodorowsky stands no chance of ever satisfying contemporary cultural norms in any broad sense, which is probably why those who love him love him dearly. He is a professional apostate, and has been from his first Panic Movement days. That has always been part of the problem once you outgrow the need to shock your own mother, and break social taboos simply for the adolescent thrill of doing so, you naturally look upon those emotional strategies as being unsophisticated and juvenile. Which is a way of saying that I remember conceiving and outlining film and theater projects as a young teenage basketcase that were quite Jodorowsky-esque in nature. I recall them now as fondly as I recall the epic acne that mutilated my face.
Nothing can spell death for an artist quicker than having his work remind critics of ideas they themselves entertained as snot-nosed pre-adults. But perhaps this is also Jodorowskys grace note: Hes been the one cinematic voice whos dared to retain what William Blake called "the auguries of innocence" albeit spiked with freakshow giggles and buckets of cows' blood. Is there no room in film culture for one unapologetic, megalo-mythic Ever-Teen? Formally, Jodorowskys films have always been stodgily assembled and sleepily paced, like pagan temple tableaux of limbless dwarfs, circus big tops, and baby hippos. But could their lack of narrative fluidity not also be a patience-demanding syntactical choice meant to ritualistically frame the movies totemic materials? Is Jodorowsky unable to make a dramatic narrative, or has he chosen instead to make films, like Kenneth Anger, that stand as mythopoetic objects in and of themselves?
Looking El Topo (1970), The Holy Mountain (1973), and Santa Sange (1989) this way doesnt make them easier to watch, but it does reveal in their litanies of lumbering, Gomorrahic imagery an authorial strategy. You can see what hes trying to do, even if it rankles you. But if thats too rich for your blood, theres still plenty of Jodorowsky set-pieces to reckon with, of a kind that moviemakers just dont seem to have the walnuts to attempt anymore: just reconsider the section of The Holy Mountain depicting Conquest of Mexico as a public carnival show using live frogs and lizards (in costume), miniature pyramids, and very real explosives. That film proceeds through a lacerating takedown of Euro-Christian colonialism, ending up in a forest of ten thousand life-size plaster Jesuses and on the street, where the dynamic of occupying army vs. native peoples is played out as grotesque pantomine, under a platoon of crucified animal carcasses.
As his films became more magical-realist and less apocalyptic (this includes 1980's Tusk, an ostensible childrens film made in India that begins with one of its eras most spectacular traveling shots), Jodorowskys imaginary landscape still retained a creepy After-the-Fall feeling, poisoned by human decadence and waiting to be swallowed by the abyss. Im pretty sure this was not the filmmakers intention Jodorowsky has always been on a mission to create new myths, and expand his audiences' consciousness, and imagine new Christs and Buddhas, and save modern society from itself. He cast himself as a shaman time and again, and thats what he wanted his film work to be, too a path to enlightenment, to be employed alongside dope and Tantric sex and meditation and crazy costumes. But instead his films, including The Dance of Reality, are dreams of a world gone terribly wrong. El Topo remains famous as a stoner mind-fuck party movie, but its actually incredibly grim and disquieting; The Holy Mountain may be the most unpleasant movie ever made about salvation. Decades from now, that may be how Jodorowskys career is remembered as one long, drunken, nauseating Day of the Dead parade.

Attacks on Politically Incorrect 'Sexual Politics' Professor Rouse Fierce Defenders
Contact: Greg Sabine, The Inter-American Institute for Philosophy, Government and Social Thought, 508-480-0705
RICHMOND, Va., May 20, 2014 /Christian Newswire/ -- As an Obama Administration report on "sexual assault" provokes anger at injustices against falsely accused men, eminent historians, political philosophers, constitutional scholars and nine hundred others are condemning attacks on a professor who drew attention to a related larger crisis which threatens Western society.
Professor Stephen Baskerville was furiously attacked by feminists and gender activists after his September lecture "Politicizing Potiphar's Wife: The New Ideology" mentioned unconstitutional procedures which empower females who falsely accuse males of rape or "harassment."
Baskerville's work is part of rising international outrage that includes prominent women warning that decades of feminist propaganda has resulted in men being routinely denied basic legal rights and due process, and often their lives are ruined by illegal imprisonment, impoverishment and loss of their children.
Several organizations circulated a petition affirming the findings of Baskerville, former Fulbright Scholar, Senior Fellow at the Inter-American Institute and Professor of Government at Patrick Henry College. Translated into several languages, it gathered support on three continents.
Amid growing concern about catastrophic social and economic consequences of fatherlessness, Baskerville and other experts warn that tens of millions of children and fathers in the United States and other Western "democracies" are cut off from each other by fanatical outlaw judges who operate unchecked outside legal and human rights boundaries.
Numerous nationally respected attorneys and constitutional scholars warn that corrupt, tyrannical family courts nationwide operate with total contempt for the law, destroying countless lives while bleeding billions of dollars annually from their victims, mainly fathers convicted of no crime, yet illegally cut off from their children.
"Anyone with experience litigating in the field knows the family-court industry must be swept out from top to bottom with the iron broom of real due process of law, said constitutional lawyer Dr. Edwin Vieira, who has successfully argued landmark United States Supreme Court cases.
"The harm that these systems perpetrate on children and parents and on society is incalculable and utterly unacceptable in any country supposedly ruled by constitutional law," Vieira added in support of Baskerville's work.
