How to determine black marketing?

Posted: September 24, 2014 at 4:42 pm

In a market-driven economy, it is difficult to determine whether the price that is being charged is black-marketing

September 24, 2014:

Recently, the Chief Minister of Bihar, Jitan Ram Manjhi, stirred up a controversy when he said that hoarding and black marketing of goods by small traders will not be treated as a crime. He may have been politically incorrect yet he was logically correct.

The hoarding and black marketing by small traders have no material impact on the demand and supply of goods in the market as the quantity of goods being hoarded by these small traders are insignificant.

Black marketing might be socially reprehensible and ethically wrong but there is nothing to prevent a businessperson from increasing the price to meet the pressing needs of the escalating cost.

In a market-driven economy, where there is no price ceiling, it is difficult to determine whether the price that is being charged is black-marketing. In the case of commodities, where there is no concept of an MRP, the concept of black marketing is even more questionable.

Blaming the small traders of hoarding and black-marketing creates more panic than to actually resolving supply side concerns. In modern commercial economy, hoarding and black marketing is a flawed logic that is often blamed for price increase. Small traders with limited financial resources can hardly make any dent on the price of a commodity or its availability.

Politicians browbeat the mythical hoarders for price rise often forgetting that the activity of hoarding needs very large and continuous supply of finance which no small trader possesses in India.

The agricultural physical market in Bihar and other States do not operate on a leveraged model and is also not a heavily financed model, unlike the trade of crude and metals in the international scenario.

In the past, it has been conclusively proven that when non-binding price ceilings are put in place to prevent price gouging in the event of natural disasters, it may actually reduce incentives for sellers to be well-stocked with goods as they will be unable to command the full market price for the commodities.

Hillary Rodham Clinton's Hollywood contributions: James Varney

Posted: September 22, 2014 at 9:45 pm

At the risk of sounding politically incorrect, I've always considered actress Tea Leoni a total babe. That's why "Madam Secretary" made a brief appearance on my TV screen Sunday night.

If it weren't Leoni, who can also be funny, that never would have happened. And it probably wouldn't have happened even with Leoni if the Carolina Panthers hadn't looked so soft and lost against the Steelers.

But whatever the reason may have been to go, neither Leoni nor an uncompetitive NFL game were enough to get me to stay.

That's not the fault of the actress of the players, though. It's that in-kind campaign contributions masked as drama aren't any good, even when liberally sprinkled with ads by Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La.

The specter of Hillary Rodham Clinton haunts "Madam Secretary." You had to figure that would be so - what are the odds a network would put on a primetime Sunday show about a woman secretary of state if Hillary weren't running for president? Still, the Clinton campaign should declare many millions from CBS as an in-kind contribution.

"Madam Secretary's" debut reminded one of a recent Clinton trial balloon. Not too long ago, remember,Hillary let it be known she favored a more forceful White House policy regarding Syria. Sunday night, Leoni warns the president he is in "a box of appeasement" in Syria that only her more hard-line approach can unlock.

Leoni handled it with more aplomb and grit than Hillary seemed to - certainly nothing in Leoni's performance would require her to"hug it out" as Hillary and President Obama did while luxuriating on Martha's Vineyard.

But the broad themes were established: a savvy player unafraid to take risks is in control over at Foggy Bottom, even if that puts her at odds with a more cautious chief executive and commander in chief.

As if the premise and the plot weren't enough to prove the whole thing is Clintonaid, everyone involved in the show and all the critics insist it isn't about Clinton. That seals it.

When rich, famous leftists come together and declare what they are doing hasnothing to do with a specific political campaign, it's virtually certain the enterprise has everything to do with that campaign.

Display of Gadsden Flag Quashed by Ocala, Florida, Authorities

September 12, 2014

What were seeing is the criminalization of free speech, manifested in incidents where the government attempts to censor speech that is controversial, politically incorrect or unpopular. Under the First Amendment, the government has no authority to pick and choose what type of speech it approves.-John W. Whitehead

By Bob Adelmann

FromThe New American

When Keith Greenberg, the owner of a sporting goods store named the Gear Barrel, moved to Florida from Chicago in May, he said it was because he felt his rights were being stomped on in Illinois and preferred living and working in freedom-loving Florida. One of the first freedoms he decided to exercise was his First Amendment right to advertise his patriotism by hanging the Gadsden flag a yellow banner with a picture of a rattlesnake and the words "Don't Tread on Me" in front of his store. In August, he received a letter from the city claiming that the flag violated the city code and that he had to remove it or be faced with fines of up to $500 a day.

Letter: Keep religion out of mayoral breakfast

Posted: September 19, 2014 at 4:44 am

Sept. 17, 2014, 7:30 a.m.

In these politically correct times in a secular society, how politically incorrect it is when a local government leader, under the name of her council leader's title, is able to get away with hosting a breakfast supposedly with ratepayers' money based on a religious platform

Inthese politically correct times in a secular society, how politically incorrect it is when a local government leader, under the name of her council leader's title, is able to get away with hosting a breakfast supposedly with ratepayers' money based on a religious platform.

Isn't government supposed to be devoid of any religious affiliation and with the recent High Court decision on school chaplaincy funding, an indication that state school chaplaincy should also be devoid of a religious affiliation?

In my days at school in Adelaide, we had school counsellors, so how unfortunate that we now have named them chaplains, with all the connotations of being faith-based.

All due respect to the visiting chief inspector, who I'm sure has provided much counselling to many wayward or traumatised individuals over his honourable career. For him to choose faith as his support mechanisim is a personal choice, but any counselling offered by state school chaplains should not be allowed to involve any indocrination to any religious belief system, no matter how subtle.

It seems fairly transparent that the support the mayor gives to the school chaplaincy program is based on a religious platform, not a secular counselling one. This is not the preside of government at any level.
