Politically incorrect gang of disabled criminals featured in new film – West – Welfare Society Territory

List of West Topic

A film about a gang of assassins in wheelchairs is out. Roues libres tells the story about the adventure of two criminals, who are anything but common. Ruspaszov, ex-firman in a wheelchair for the last 3 years, due to an acciendent on the job, and, then, we have Zolika, 21-year-old who is crazy about comics, born with a motor disability. Neither accepts the situation very well and cynicism and alcohol dont seem to lighten the load of their suffering. But, everything changes when, one helps the other to use their handicaps as a cover and they offer their services to the local mafia king. Directed by Hungarian, Attila Till, this irreverent undertaking divided the critics. Some saw it as film with certain qualities, precisely because it is so far from the politically correct plots that dominate the Big Screen whenever the disabled theme has to be dealt with; while others consider this novel approach a provocation that goes nowhere, in other words, useless. In the end, the public will have the last word.

Twitter Is Cracking down on Politically Incorrect Language

If youre thinking about calling someone a retard on Twitter, think again, as the company is reportedly suspending accounts based on foul language. One guy ( rightfully? ) called Nintendo "retarded" for selling Zelda: Breath of the Wild DLC and lost usage of his account, while another lost the same privilege after using the word "fag" although he was merely smoking. Maybe Twitter will start banning users for run-on sentences and incomplete clauses next. Thanks to Kyle for pointing this out.

Twitter has launched a new way to punish users for bad behavior, temporarily "limiting" their account. Some users are receiving notices their accounts are limited for 12 hours, meaning only people who follow them can see their tweets or receive notifications. When they are retweeted, people outside their network cant see those retweets. Some speculate these limitations are automatic based on keywords, but there is no hard evidence. This would be fine if this was used uniformly to clamp down on harassment, but it appears to be used on people, simply for using politically incorrect language.

Jason Rhoades: is Installation Art the Whitest Privilege? – Huffington Post

Posted: at 12:47 am

The late Jason Rhoades is the subject of a survey with six of his sprawling installation art pieces placed in Hauser Wirth & Schimmels massive gallery in his adopted hometown of Los Angeles.

Last August marked ten years since his passing (from accidental drug intoxication and heart disease, according to his wikipedia page) at age 41. His breakthrough happened at his first solo show in 1994 when, as a recently-minted graduate of the UCLA studio art MFA diploma mill, he presented a room-sized assemblage of detritus based on the then-outr notion of matching colors. The yellow assemblage entitled Swedish Erotica and Fierro Parts was an ambiguous collision of autobiographical bric a brac, but it was perfectly calibrated for the times. Rhoades was standing on the shoulders of giants. After almost two decades of struggling to destroy the tropes that defined the hierarchies of high and low art, Mike Kelley and Paul McCarthy were getting their critical due. Rhoades instantly became their much in demand heir apparent. He was not responsble in any way for putting Los Angeles on the art world map but he was the first new kid at the trough to benefit from the regions sudden status as an international capitol of contemporary art production.

Rhoades specialized in pushing the inscrutable while flaunting his disregard for all sacred cows. One installation in the show from 1995, My Brother / Brancuzi, mocks art world reverence for historically important modernist Constantin Brancusi by conflating a messy hoarders paradise of an art studio with an adolescent brothers bedroom. He used the allegedly autobiographical as a cover under which to fill space without context. If you didnt get it you were on the outside in a prefabricated elitism that allowed for no critical context outside of worshipful praise for all that edgy barrier-breaking.

But what was good for 1994-2006, the years covered in this survey, may not be good for 2017. Of the six major installations that comprise the show, three feature conglomerations of neon signage spelling out slang terms for womens genitalia. Little is more ubiquitous to American white male artists born in a certain era than narcissistic relativism, that sentiment that the freedom to do whatever one wants should carry no moral responsibility, allow for any confrontations nor engender any consequences. In the relativism of that era, the context of being white and male added to the luster and importance of the work being politically incorrect. During his lifetime, Rhoades received (almost exclusively) fawning praise for defeating formal constrictions, expanding the definition of what art could be and being edgy with overtly racist, sexist and bigoted themes under the aw shucks banner of just being a little politically incorrect.

Here is a simple description of three Jason Rhoades works in the show:

A few years after 9/11 the artist made an installation that mimics the structure of a mosque where a wide open floor has cloths laid down in geometric patterns; barefoot spectators are encouraged to traipse about. Above this, at the height where a mosque might have chandeliers or other lighting elements, the artist has a sprawling ceiling of colorful text pieces with slang terms for womens genitalia.

Ben Easley

In another work from the following year he continued with the neon slang but stuck close to the urban dictionary with African-American and hip hop slang for every girls private parts. Part of the title of this piece was Black Pussy. Again, the viewer wanders an almost maze-like installation of inexplicable associations unified by the glowing neon mockery of the Nay-Nay.

Ben Easley

In a sequel of sorts he then made a larger assembly of neon naughties, this time in Spanish and English and put blankets out on the floor with tourist trinkets one might buy in Tijuana or Tangiers.

Ben Easley

Quick, try this: Tell someone who has not read this article about a Trump-supporting Alt-Right visual artist who makes ethnically-charged installations as right wing racial degradement. Read those three bullet-point descriptions above. Does any of this more-than-a-decade-old work suddenly seem to reflect the times we live in? Was Jason Rhoades ahead of his time? There is lots of room for debate about this specific work but the bigger picture demands we look at recent art with one looming critical context: Is turn of the century moral relativism a banner under which freedom rings or the flag in which sexists, racists and the obliviously bigoted wrap themselves?

JASON RHOADES INSTALLATIONS 1994-2016 continues at Hauser Wirth & Schimmel thru May 21. HWS is at 901 East 3rd Street in the heart of the Los Angeles Art District. The gallery is open WED thru SUN, 11 AM - 6 PM and until 8 PM on Thursdays.

Thought you were done with angry elections? Welcome to the Virginia, NJ races for governor – Daily Press

Posted: February 15, 2017 at 8:46 pm

RICHMOND - A blunt and combative Republican who sneers at political correctness. Insurgent candidates striking populist notes. Establishment figures on the defensive. A former TV star with political ambitions.

The governor's races this year in Virginia and New Jersey are unfolding in ways that powerfully echo the wild campaign for the White House.

There is, for example, Corey Stewart, a tough-talking former Trump campaign chairman in Virginia who says President Donald Trump's victory has freed candidates to "simply be yourself."

"You can be profane. You can be politically incorrect," said Stewart, one of three candidates challenging Ed Gillespie, a former Republican National Committee chairman, for the GOP nomination.

In Trump-like fashion, Stewart has coined a mocking nickname for Gillespie: "Establishment Ed." Stewart, chairman of the Board of Supervisors in suburban Washington's Prince William County, also held a lottery to give away an assault rifle and recently protested Charlottesville's plans to remove a statue of Gen. Robert E. Lee, tweeting, "The left has no respect for our history."

In New Jersey, former "Saturday Night Live" comic and Trump supporter Joe Piscopo is considering a run for governor, possibly as an independent.

Both races are wide open, with Republican Gov. Chris Christie in New Jersey and Democratic Gov. Terry McAuliffe in Virginia leaving office because of term limits.

The two contests are the highest-profile elections this year and are seen by the Democrats as a potential referendum on Trump and an important early test of the party's strength less than a year into his presidency.

Also, the party holds just 16 governors' offices, and taking more of them could help the Democrats influence the redrawing of congressional and legislative districts after the 2020 census.

National groups already have signaled they are willing to pour money into the two races. The Republican Governors Association recently put $5 million into its Virginia campaign account. In New Jersey, regulators expect outside spending to break records.

"Everybody wants to make this a referendum on Trump," said Tarina Keene, executive director NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia. "We want to set the stage for 2018 for winning and making sure a Trump agenda goes nowhere."

Republicans have uphill climbs in both states. In New Jersey, Democrats outnumber Republicans by about 800,000 voters. Virginia is more of a swing state, though Democrats have won every statewide election since 2009 and Hillary Clinton carried the state by more than 5 percentage points in November.

John Fredericks, a conservative radio host who helped run Trump's campaign in Virginia, said the Democratic tilt of both states puts the pressure on the Democrats: "If the Republicans win, I think it is a huge, huge message that the Trump movement is growing."

Democrats say Trump's moves targeting immigrants, refugees, abortion and voting rights should help their side, while Republicans are hoping Trump's efforts to create jobs will attract more GOP voters.

In New Jersey, Democratic state Assemblyman John Wisniewski is casting himself as a Bernie Sanders-style insurgent, even though he has been in office for two decades and served as state party chairman. His chief rival for the nomination is Wall Street millionaire Phil Murphy, a former Goldman Sachs executive and Obama administration ambassador to Germany who represents the party's establishment wing.

Sen. Cory Booker of New Jersey said he endorsed Murphy partly on Murphy's ability to block Trump's agenda.

"Winter is coming," Booker said. "It is critical for us that we have a partner in Trenton who every day works in concert with us."

Piscopo, who has made a career out of impersonating fellow New Jerseyan Frank Sinatra, plans to make a decision by the spring.

"Donald Trump is a once-in-a-lifetime candidate, lightning in a bottle," he said. "Having said that, the thing that inspired me was the movement of the people, the will of the people."

What level of involvement Trump will have in the races is unclear. A single Trump tweet for or against a candidate could alter the dynamics in a GOP primary, and Trump has already shown a willingness to back candidates in contests presidents typically ignore.

"We will let you know when we have an announcement on either race," White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said.

Twitter’s New Tool to Crack Down on Politically Incorrect Language – Heat Street

Posted: at 8:46 pm

Twitter has launched a new way to punish users for bad behavior, temporarily limiting their account.

Take for example the Twitter user @Drybones5 who got hisaccount limited after using the word retarded.

He claims he got his account limited directly after saying retarded twice. The first time he called a Nintendo policy adding paid extra content to their new Zelda game retarded.

The next time he called someone a retard who called him a retard first.

Another user @faggotfriday (kind of surprising he hasnt gotten banned yet) got his account limited after using fag in the British sense, meaning cigarette.

Another user claims his account was limited after calling Senator John McCain a traitor.

Its not surprising or unreasonable, the limiting feature would be applied to the n-word, but it can go into effect even when the word isused in a context which was not targeting anyone.

In this case the n-word was used in reference to a statement Chris Cuomo made. It seems that using the n-word inreference to a quote could cause an account to get limited.

Twitter appearsto be using this feature to police problematic language that is not necessarily targeted harassment. So much for being the free speech wing of the free speech party.

Review: Men are from Mars and these jokes are from the ’90s … – Chicago Tribune

Posted: at 8:46 pm

Many years ago, John Gray author of the help-yourself-in-relationships guide "Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus" appeared on Bill Maher's old "Politically Incorrect" program. Fellow panelist John Larroquette needled him about the title. "I thought it was called 'Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus so let's get liquored up and drive to Venus!'"

That premise isn't too far removed from the touring production of the solo play "Men Are From Mars Women Are From Venus Live!" now appearing at the Broadway Playhouse. It was audience catnip as a Valentine's date-night option Tuesday, where Amadeo Fusca hustled for every laugh. But not even Fusca's ingratiating and nimble performance could cover up the creaks in the material.

Loosely adapted from Gray's book by Eric Coble, the show (directed by Mindy Cooper) plays as a mix of lecture and stand-up comedy, in much the same vein as Rob Becker's long-running pseudo-anthropological solo comedy, "Defending the Caveman." But its underlying assumption that there is a rigid gender binary predetermined by our brain chemistry was questionable back in 1992 when Gray first published his book. In an era of increased understanding about trans/nonconforming gender identities and relationships that don't embrace heteronormativity or monogamy, those assumptions feel particularly clueless and smug.

Gray himself appears in a couple of video segments where he confidently lays out his theories about dopamine and serotonin and how women and men differ in scoring "points" in relationships. (Gray isn't an accredited researcher, for what it's worth though it's unlikely anyone going to the show would care about that.) These are further accompanied by cartoons around the running theme of women getting mad because men don't do enough for them at the right time which is pretty much the running theme of Fusca's own stories of his relationship with his wife.

So let us stipulate that I am probably not the target audience for this show. Fair enough. Fusca, a vet of the Upright Citizens Brigade in New York, knows how to work the room and takes great pains to drop in local references Blackhawks, Pequod's Pizza and the like. He's got physical energy to burn and spins like a top across the stage, winking and dropping innuendoes to the people in the front row like an old pro from the Friars Club. (He has worked roasts in that fabled establishment, and it forms the backdrop for a story about an anniversary date that doesn't quite go as planned).

But even people who operate on the assumption that there are basic and unchanging differences in how men and women behave in relationships deserve fresher insights than what's on tap here. The show, which has been touring since its first appearance in Paris in 2007, basically regurgitates the idea that men do things "single file" while women multitask. (Which may account for the single-file-entendre sex jokes sprinkled throughout at one point, Fusca describes his sex drive as an "Easy-Bake Oven" while women are "wood-burning stoves.")

It's sort of as if someone decided to treat "Lockhorns" cartoons as an anthropological case study and then gussy them up with naughty jokes. And that's fine, as far as it goes. There are some genuinely sweet moments here, as when Fusca recounts wooing his wife on their first date with the only two chords he knew how to play on the guitar. That moment recalls in the best possible way Adam Sandler in "The Wedding Singer."

If it ran straight through at 90 minutes, the show would probably feel less strained. Then again, maybe the point is to get extra drinks at intermission and then nudge and wink at those moments where Mars and Venus are both in on the same joke even if they've heard it many times before.

SB17: Clarifying student freedoms – Hopkinsville Kentucky New Era

Posted: at 11:49 pm

Lawmakers often avoid new legislation because they dont want to overregulate or create unintended consequences. Hence the adage, Nothing moves in government unless its pushed.

In other states, we have seen speakers uninvited, student-led groups denied the right to meet, and individuals mocked by faculty and peers because of their politically incorrect opinions.

Last years, California State University President Covino intended to reschedule conservative columnist Ben Shapiros lecture. The politically conservative student group who invited him held the lecture anyway. They were met with angry protestors blocking entry to the building. Students who arrived early enough to get in before protestors arrived were told by campus security to leave by sneaking out the back door.

The campus response? A safe space debriefing was held in the Student Union; not for the beleaguered conservatives, but for the liberals who felt unsafe having a conservative speaker on campus.

I disagree on many points with Milo Yiannopoulis, but I do agree that political correctness is, like the title of his new book, Dangerous. Students at UC Berkeley rioted recently, protesting Yiannopoulos talk on the dangers of political correctness. They broke windows, lit fires and caused over $100,000 in damages, essentially proving his premise.

Granted, the University of Kentucky is not Berkeley but the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education gave UK a yellow rating, citing concerns about the Universitys policy limiting free speech to specified zones on campus.

Schools should be places where truth is sought, intellect is developed, and ideas are tested and refined. Instead, students freedom of thought and speech are in serious peril.

Its true, the most egregious examples occur not in Kentucky but in other states- you know, the ones on the coasts.

Mark Twain quipped I want to be in Kentucky when the end of the world comes, because they are always 20 years behind.

But Kentucky might not be 20 years behind on this. It was in Kentucky, after all, that in 2006 Russell County High School Senior Megan Chapman was prevented from praying at her graduation.

And in 2015 that the Paintsville elementary Christmas program was censored, protecting students from the sinister A Charlie Browns Christmas. Thank goodness for the bravery of the administration in sparing those students from the terrible fate of the millions who have had to hear about the meaning of Christmas while watching this treasured classic.

Senator Juliann Carroll said in last years hearing on Kentucky Senate Bill 17, The Student Free Speech and Religious Liberty Bill, that people are so afraid of crossing over the line that they arent getting anywhere near it.

Passage of viewpoint neutral SB17 would make the appropriate line more clear for administrators, teachers, parents and students. Last Friday, the Kentucky Senate thought it was time to push or perhaps push back and protect Kentucky students. Now it is time for the House to act.

After all, what happens in California doesnt stay in California.

Politically incorrect Grammy choice paid off for Princess Joy Villa – World Tribune

Posted: at 10:46 am

by WorldTribune Staff, February 13, 2017

The same old song at the Grammy Awards this year was bashing President Donald Trump . . . over and over.

One artist chose a different path.

Her reward was to see the sales ranking of her album, I Make the Static, skyrocket on Amazon from #543,202 to #3 overnight.

Singer-songwriter Joyce Villa, who goes by the name Princess Joy Villa and identifies as bi-racial, shocked the red carpet gawkers with her red, white and blue gown emblazoned with Make America Great Again in front, and Trump across the train.

I hope you enjoy tonights #grammyawards2017 and remember to forget your problems and focus on the future, Villa said.

You are infinite and beautiful and no one can stop you but you. So go out and celebrate yourself as a winner no matter what, together with those you adore.

Villa probably isnt a Trump fanatic and wore a dress sure to go viral on social media, Rick Moran wrote for American Thinker. Her social media comments suggest some irony in using Trumps campaign slogan.

Still, she could not have been unaware of the physical danger she was putting herself in by wearing a dress that expressed pro-Trump sentiments.

The twitterverse also lit up over Beyonce, who many say delivered a strong pro-life message in performing while pregnant with twins.

According to the Daily Caller, the star wore a bejeweled gown and a gold crown atop her head as she performeda choreographed number that was dedicated to birth and motherhood.

Among the tweets: Is Beyonce making a pro life pitch?? For black women??

@Beyoncethat was beautiful and just about as prolife@prolifeallianceas an artist, woman, mother, and daughter can get.#ProLifebless you

Lifenews.com, however, pointed out that Beyonce has never said she is pro-life. She has supported Planned Parenthood, the nations largest abortion provider, andother pro-abortion causes in the past.

Still, her life-affirming words are worth celebrating because they affirm to a huge audience that a babys life in the womb is unique, precious and worthy of protection.

Why retailers are pulling back from the Trump brand – News8000.com – WKBT

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) - Companies are dropping the Ivanka and Donald Trump lines.

The question is why -- is it business? Or politics?

Nordstrom, TJ Maxx, Marshalls, Neiman Marcus, Kmart, Sears, Belk and Burlington have announced plans to eliminate or minimize their inventory of Trump-related brands.

The stores insist these decisions were based on performance, but none shared any sales figures.

Ivanka Trump's company says it is growing and had "significant year-over-year revenue growth in 2016." But because it's a private company, Ivanka's brand doesn't have to disclose its financials.

But several retail experts said they believe the stores' decisions were likely driven by business factors.

One veteran retail analyst points to Ivanka's decision to step away from the company as evidence that the brand may not be going strong.

"If the Ivanka Trump brand were going to be the next Ralph Lauren or Tory Burch, do you think Ivanka might've figured out a way to keep her finger in the pot, stay part of it?" said the analyst, who asked not to be identified.

Another retail analyst, Richard Jaffe from research firm Stifel, said companies like Nordstrom make decisions based on money.

"It isn't about a woman named Ivanka or her father -- it's about the hundreds of thousands of customers who come into the store and say no this is not for me," Jaffe said. "When a customer votes with their dollar, you recognize that it's your job to offer newness and novelty to inspire them to buy."

Jaffe said there are likely lots of Trump supporters who shop at Nordstrom, but if sales are down, that means they're not buying the product either.

The different demographics of the Ivanka and Donald Trump brands may make Ivanka's line more susceptible to political winds, according to Jamie Turner, the author and CEO of 60SecondMarketer.com.

Ivanka's brand, which caters to Millennials, may be more "sensitive to what they see as politically incorrect," he said. That could drive them to "react to what's going on in the Trump administration through their pocketbooks."

"The Donald Trump brand skews older. They focus on older males who might not be as sensitive to the things he's saying," Turner said.

Nordstrom, which said it will stop carrying Ivanka's line, said earlier this month that "over the past year, and particularly in the last half of 2016, sales of the brand have steadily declined to the point where it didn't make good business sense for us to continue with the line for now."

Ivanka's sales surged in late 2015, according to Slice Intelligence, a retail analysis firm that used data from five stores that carry her products. The uptick in sales came just months after Donald Trump announced his run for president.

But by January 2017, online sales of Ivanka's brand dropped 26 percent compared with the previous year, according to Slice.

--Danielle Wiener-Bronner contributed to this report.
