The Telegraph
Moroccan MPs on Wednesday admitted the country had waved thousands of migrants into Spain as part of an attempt to exert political pressure on Madrid. Rabat was outraged by Spanish authorities' agreeing to treat the leader of the Polisario Front, a pro-independence movement it has long fought in the Western Sahara, for coronavirus. Brahim Ghali, 71, was hospitalised in Spain under an alias earlier this month. The EU on Wednesday said it would not be "intimidated" by Moroccan blackmail in response to the mass influx into the Spanish enclave of Ceuta of around 8,000 people, including some 1,500 children, as local security forces watched on. However, it appears Spain has in fact buckled to the pressure, with Madrid now pushing ahead with a prosecution of Mr Ghali for alleged war crimes. On Tuesday video emerged showing Moroccan border guards opening a gate in the security fence that surrounds Ceuta, and shepherding a line of young migrants through the gap. On Wednesday morning, Spanish soldiers in combat gear and police officers were escorting some swimmers directly back to Morocco, while Moroccan police drove hundreds of young man away from the border fence.

Entertainment Leaders Call on Celebrities and Influencers to Stop Spreading Misinformation about Israeli-Palestinian Conflict – PRNewswire
Posted: May 18, 2021 at 4:13 am
LOS ANGELES, May 17, 2021 /PRNewswire/ --More than 130 leaders from the entertainment industry have signed a joint statement released by the non-profit entertainment industry organization Creative Community For Peacecalling on fellow entertainers and executives to use their platforms to combat misleading and one-sided accounts of the conflict in Israel and the Palestinian Territories. The open letter urges those in the entertainment community to use their voice to call for the de-escalation of violence and the end to divisive rhetoric while also acknowledging the pain and loss impacting all parties involved in the conflict.
The joint statement comes amid a wave of violence in Israel and the Palestinian Territories, including indiscriminate rocket attacks targeting metropolitan areas throughout Israel as well as Israel's retaliatory response in Gaza.
Gene Simmons(Artist/KISS), Sherry Lansing (Former CEO of Paramount Pictures), Michael Bubl (Artist), Haim Saban (Chairman & CEO, Saban Capital Group), Meghan McCain (Co-Host, The View), Orly Agai Marley (President, Tuff Gong Worldwide), David Draiman (Frontman, Disturbed), Selma Blair (Actress), Diane Warren (Songwriter, Producer), and Ben Silverman (Chairman and Co-Chief Executive Officer of Propagate Content) are among nearly 130 signers of the joint statement, which was made public Friday.
"We are deeply concerned by the escalating violence in Israel and the Palestinian Territories," the statement reads. "The loss of life and violence is heartbreaking. We call on the leaders of all parties to end the violence, urge calm, and work toward de-escalation."
The statement's signers are among the first in the entertainment industry to publicly promote peace while also opposing a surge of deceptive media narratives that have dominated the news cycle since tensions escalated nearly a week ago.
"We also call on our colleagues and friends in the entertainment community to stop posting misinformation and one-sided narratives that only work to inflame the conflict instead of bringing about peace," the statement continues.
"Misinformed and fallacious memes being posted by those far away from the conflict are being taken for truth," said Ari Ingel, Director of Creative Community for Peace. "This distorted version of reality is being spread online and then amplified by influencers, which only fans the flames of hatred and has real life consequences."
Creative Community for Peaceaims to promote the arts as a means for peace while fighting antisemitism in the entertainment industry and on prominent media platforms. To learn more about their cause, visit http://www.creativecommunityforpeace.com.
FULL STATEMENT
We are deeply concerned by the escalating violence in Israel and the Palestinian Territories. The loss of life and violence is heartbreaking. We call on the leaders of all parties to end the violence, urge calm, and work toward de-escalation.
We also call on our colleagues and friends in the entertainment community to stop posting misinformation and one-sided narratives that only work to inflame the conflict instead of bringing about peace.
While we may have differing opinions on the conflict, it is never okay for Hamas to publicly call for the killing of civilians, use civilians as human shields, and rain down missiles indiscriminately on civilian populations with no care about who is killedArab or Jew.
When lives are at stake, we all bear responsibility to unite rather than divide. Incendiary language only benefits those at the extremes who have no interest in peace. Our thoughts are with all Israelis and Palestinians who are experiencing unfathomable levels of fear and violence, and hope for the day when both peoples can live side by side in peace.

First Shot
The Senate Appropriations Committee approved the bill implementing the new Seminole Compact, teeing it up for a floor vote as soon as Tuesday.
Senators were largely amenable to SB 2A, the chambers main piece of legislation for the Special Session on gaming. St. Petersburg Republican Sen. Jeff Brandes was the only lawmaker to vote against the bill as it cleared the committee on an 18-1 vote.
The Senates fast pace indicates the Special Session will be a short one.
Assuming the bill passes the chamber on Tuesday, senators will stick around for the House to give it the OK on Wednesday before turning the lights off and heading home.
Day 1 wasnt without drama, however.
Minutes after House Speaker Chris Sprowls gaveled in the Special Session, he announced that online casino gaming was off the table.
Some language in the Compact could be construed to lead to the backdoor expansion of online gaming, Sprowls said. Even the mere possibility of this was unacceptable, and therefore Chairman (Paul) Renner, Chairman (Randy) Fine, and I engaged directly with the Seminole Tribe on this issue.
The online gaming provision required the state and Tribe to enter good faith negotiations on allowing online casino games within the next three years.
Removing the provision brought some reticent lawmakers back into the yea column, which will likely keep the Legislature on track for a Wednesday afternoon Sine Die.

Conservative journalist Christina Pushaw will take over as Gov. Ron DeSantis press secretary.
Pushaw has worked as a freelance journalist with articles running in conservative outlets such as The National Interest and Human Events. She also has a background in public policy and international political communication.
However, what likely caught the eye of the DeSantis administration were her rebuttals to Rebekah Jones allegations that the state Department of Health, at the administrations request, was misrepresented coronavirus infections and deaths.
Former DeSantis communications director Helen Aguirre Ferr said Pushaw comfortably stands up to would-be cyberbullies and those that regularly defame and lie. As such, she is a natural fit to work in Gov. DeSantis communications shop as he continues to lead Florida safely and successfully through the challenges brought upon our state and nation as a result of a global pandemic.
Pushaw is a graduate of the University of Southern California, where she earned a bachelors degree in history, and Johns Hopkins University, where she earned a masters degree in international relations and economics.

Election filing week kicks off with a few surprises – The Columbian
Posted: at 4:13 am
Clark Countys first day of election filing week wrapped up with a few surprises, as 66 candidates declared campaigns for 53 offices as of 5 p.m.
Many candidates filed paperwork for their already-declared 2021 campaigns, formalizing an election year already well underway. A few announced their intent to run on Monday.
In Vancouver, Kara Tess quietly registered her intent to seek Position 2 on the city council currently held by Erik Paulsen. Tess, who hadnt previously announced her campaign, didnt return The Columbians request for comment.
Paulsen also filed his reelection campaign Monday, as did the currently unopposed Vancouver Mayor Anne McEnerny-Ogle. Candidates Kim Harless, Mike Pond and John Blom made official their previously announced bids for Vancouver City Council Position 1, while Diana Perez and David Gellatly filed for Position 3. Both council seats are wide open, with their incumbents not seeking reelection in the fall.
Elsewhere in Clark County, two candidates are running for mayor of Camas: current Camas City Councilor Steve Hogan, and Camas-Washougal Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Jennifer Senescu.
Hogan announced his bid late last week, following the abrupt resignation of Camas Mayor Barry McDonnell. Senescu launched her campaign in tandem with her filing on Monday.
Tim Hein also filed his campaign to fill Hogans seat on the city council.
In Battle Ground, so-far uncontested candidates Troy McCoy, Adrian Cortes and Neil Butler filed their campaigns for city council, while Cherish DesRochers and Josie Calderon are both running for Position 6.
A competitive race is also underway in La Center, with Janice Fowler and T.R. Randy Williams both running for Position 3; Ron Ostrander and Dennis Hill are thus far running for their city council seats unchallenged.
In Woodland, Keith Bellisle,Jenn Rowland and David Plaza are officially seeking city council positions 1, 2 and 3, respectively. Ridgefields Ron Onslow, Don Stose and Jennifer Lindsay also filed currently uncontested bids for city council seats. Washougals Paul Greenlee is currently the only official candidate for mayor, and David Stuebe, Molly Coston and Julie Russell are all running for the city council without filed opponents. Michelle Dawson and Joshua Beck are running for two seats on the Yacolt Town Council.
Another 17 people filed campaigns to sit on the countys school district boards. Six fire commissioner candidates, three port commission hopefuls, two would-be wastewater district commissioners, two people seeking Superior Court judges seats and a single cemetery district commissioner candidate also filed their paperwork Monday.
Anyone running for a local office needs to file their candidacy with the Clark County Elections Department this week. The department will continue to accept online campaign declarations through 4 p.m. Friday, and candidates can also file in person through 5 p.m. Friday in the elections office at 1408 Franklin St. in Vancouver.
The paperwork for filing online can be found at clark.wa.gov/elections. Candidates must have a valid email address and be registered to vote in Clark County. Fees can be paid via credit or debit card.
Those filing in-person cannot use credit cards. Due to COVID-19 social distancing regulations, only a limited number of candidates will be permitted in the office at a time.
The primary election will be held Aug. 2 and the general election will be held Nov. 2.

Researchers Develop Wireless Sensor That Measures Scratching To Improve Eczema And Other Anti-Itch Treatments – CBS New York
Posted: at 4:07 am
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) Millions of children and adults in the U.S. have to cope with the constant itching of eczema. And all that scratching can lead to bleeding and infections.
A new technology can finally measure just how much someone is scratching and help to better treat patients, CBS2s Dr. Max Gomez reported.
Jan-Kai Chang said his daughter Cynthias eczema is so bad that sometimes the five-year-old scratches until she bleeds.
We tried to ask her to stop scratching when she feels itchy. But you can imagine that its too hard, Chang said.
The itching can be unbearable for the 10 million kids and 16 million adults with atopic dermatitis (eczema). But its a challenge to actually measure how much someone is scratching.
Researchers at Northwestern University have developed a first-of-its-kind wearable sensor that can quantify itching by measuring scratching.
Its sort of an old saying. If you cant measure it, you cant manage it,' said Northwesterns Dr. Steve Xu.
The soft, flexible, wireless device measures vibrations from the hand and can capture all forms of scratching finger, wrist and elbow motion related.
An algorithm picks out just scratching and doesnt flag similar movements, like waving. A study validating its accuracy was recently published in Science Advances.
Dr. Xu said having an objective measure of scratching can lead to better care for itchy conditions.
If things look like theyre getting worse, that might require a treatment change, a treatment adaptation, Xu said. And also can reinforce that something is working right, that this child is scratching less, sleeping better.
Cynthia took part in the sensor testing and her dad said they learned a lot.
When its windy, we have to apply a lot of topical lotion, moisturizer before she went to bed, Chang said. And that can significantly reduce the scratching time.
While the sensor was tested in patients with eczema, it can be used with any condition that causes children and adults to itch.
Researchers expect the sensor to be widely available as soon as the end of this year.

Alitretinoin a Treatment Option for Chronic Hand Eczema – Dermatology Advisor
Posted: at 4:07 am
Systemic alitretinoin is safe and effective for patients with moderate to severe chronic hand eczema (CHE) that is refractory to standard therapy with potent topical corticosteroids, according to study findings published in Dermatologic Therapy.
The DECISA project (Dermatology Clinics in Italy: Survey on Alitretinoin), a retrospective cohort study conducted in 15 Italian dermatology clinics, sought to collect clinical data for patients with CHE unresponsive to potent or super-potent topical corticosteroids. All participants were treated with oral alitretinoin 30 mg daily for 6 consecutive months.
Investigators assessed patients disease severity at baseline and after 3 and 6 months of treatment with use of the 5-point Physician Global Assessment (PGA) and the modified Total Lesion Symptom Score (mTLSS).
A total of 438 patients (mean age, 49.7113.20 years; 248 men, 56.6%) were enrolled from 2010 to 2018. Within the cohort, irritant contact dermatitis (ICD) was diagnosed in 189 cases (43.2%), allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) in 97 (22.2%), and atopic dermatitis in 79 (18.0%). Eczema was considered mixed type (ICD/ACD) in the other 73 patients (16.7%).
At baseline, 364 patients (83.1%) had a severe PGA score (4), and 74 (16.9%) had a moderate score (3). The mean mTLSS score was 12.86 (2.76). After 3 months, 420 patients were re-evaluated, and the decrease in mTLSS score was significant compared with baseline (6.293.27, P <.0000001). The PGA score was clear (0) in 33 cases (7.5%), almost clear (1) in 123 (28.1%), mild (2) in 101 (23.1%), moderate (3) in 130 (29.7%), and severe (4) in 33 (7.5%), confirming the improvement (P <.0000001 vs baseline). There were 26 nonresponders (5.9%).
After the first follow-up, 350 patients continued alitretinoin treatment, and 341 (97.4%) were re-evaluated after 6 months, at which time the PGA score was clear in 85 cases (24.9%), almost clear in 117 (34.3%), mild in 56 (16.4%), moderate in 59 (17.3%), and severe in 24 (7.0%). The mTLSS score was not assessed in 23 cases, and in the remaining 318 cases, the average score was 4.32 (3.29). The improvement of both scores was evident compared with scores at baseline and the 3-month visit (P <.0000001 in all comparisons), according to the study authors.
After 6 months of alitretinoin treatment, 125 patients had relapses and another course of treatment was prescribed for 58 of them.
Side effects during treatment were reported by 17.6% of patients (n=77), and 7.1% (n=31) discontinued treatment owing to these effects. After the study authors applied the worst case scenario criteria for the 9 patients lost at follow-up and assessed them as though they had experienced adverse effects that had forced them to discontinue treatment, the percentages were 19.6% and 9.1%, respectively.
In a majority of cases, the type of side effect was not reported in the database; headache was the most common side effect among those that were reported, occurring in 12 patients, followed by dyslipidemia in 4 patients.
These statistical trends and significant associations deserve, in our opinion, further investigation in larger and different populations, and, if confirmed, could give an important contribution to the definition of the risk profile of patients who undergo treatment with alitretinoin for CHE, the researchers commented.
Ferrucci S, Persichini P, Gola M, et al. DECISA Project (DErmatology Clinics in Italy: Survey on Alitretinoin): a real-life retrospective cohort multicenter study on 438 subjects with chronic hand eczema. Dermatol Ther. Published online February 22, 2021. doi:10.1111/dth.14911

LEO Pharma initiates the first Phase 3 clinical trial with delgocitinib cream in adult patients with moderate-to-severe chronic hand eczema (CHE) -…
Posted: at 4:07 am
BALLERUP, Denmark--(BUSINESS WIRE)--NOT FOR DISTRIBUTION IN THE UK OR IRELAND
LEO Pharma A/S, a global leader in medical dermatology, today announced it has enrolled the first adult patient in the first of two pivotal Phase 3 clinical trials with delgocitinib cream, an investigational topical pan-Janus kinase (JAK)-inhibitor, for the potential treatment of adult patients with moderate-to-severe chronic hand eczema (CHE).
Delgocitinib inhibits activation of the JAK-STAT pathway, which plays a key role in the immune system in driving the pathophysiology of chronic inflammatory skin diseases.1,2 The cream formulation of delgocitinib is an investigational therapy under clinical development and has not been approved by any regulatory authority.
The primary objective for the randomized, double-blind, vehicle-controlled, multi-center Phase 3 clinical trials (DELTA 1 and DELTA 2) is to evaluate the efficacy of twice-daily applications of delgocitinib cream 20 mg/g compared with vehicle in the treatment of adults with moderate-to-severe CHE.3,4
The primary endpoint of the trials is the Investigators Global Assessment for chronic hand eczema treatment success (IGA-CHE TS) at Week 16.3,4 Treatment success is defined as an IGA-CHE score of 0 (clear) or 1 (almost clear) with at least a two-step improvement from baseline.3,4
Key secondary endpoints at Week 16 include reduction of itch and pain scores of 4 points measured by the Hand Eczema Symptom Diary (HESD) from baseline to Week 16,3,4 as well as at least 75% improvement from baseline and at least 90% improvement from baseline on the Hand Eczema Severity Index (HECSI) at Week 16.3,4 The number of treatment-emergent adverse events per patient from baseline to Week 16 defines the key safety endpoint of the trials.3,4
"Managing moderate-to-severe CHE is challenging because of limited available treatment options for chronic use, said Dr. Sibylle Schliemann, Consultant, Department of Dermatology, University Hospital Jena, Germany and lead investigator for DELTA 2. These trials will evaluate whether delgocitinib cream can potentially offer a new treatment option for adult patients with moderate-to-severe CHE who suffer from a considerable burden of disease.
CHE is defined as hand eczema (HE) that lasts for more than three months or relapses twice or more within a year.5,6 HE is the most common skin disorder of the hands7 that affects an estimated 1 5% of the general population8 with a one-year prevalence rate of approximately 10%.9 It is an inflammatory, non-infectious skin disorder of the hands and wrists5,10 and can cause itching, blisters, swelling and pain so severe that it can impair the ability to work.5,7,11 In a substantial number of patients, HE can develop into a chronic condition.7
We have been encouraged by the positive results from the Phase 2b CHE clinical trial with delgocitinib cream and look forward to learning whether it has the potential to offer benefits to adult patients through a larger Phase 3 clinical development program, said Dr. Jrg Mller, Executive Vice President, Global Research & Development, LEO Pharma. We are committed to developing innovative therapies that may help improve the lives of patients who need more treatment options for skin diseases.

Of COVID-19 and Climate Change, One Is the Tip and the Other Is the Iceberg – The Wire Science

As we grapple with Indias COVID-19 epidemic, we cant afford to lose sight of the larger crisis that lies in wait: climate change. Several voices worldwide, ranging from celebrities to academics, claim that the global collaboration observed to address the COVID crisis could help us prepare better to face the impending climate crisis. Although the collaboration achieved so far is undoubtedly a ray of hope to cope with a climate-affected future, we were reminded of a question by one of our students, can climate change be fundamentally addressed as long as the top 5% of the worlds population (or even a smaller fraction) can bail themselves out from the worst impacts of the climate crisis?
Drawing a direct parallel, when India is reporting the worlds highest daily cases of infection, and people here are fighting their battle to breathe, many wealthy Indians fled from the country in private jets paying ten times the regular fare, just in time before several foreign countries imposed a ban on arrivals from India.
This raises the obvious question of whether 5% of the worlds population could always be saved, be it from COVID or climate change? And more importantly, are we evaluating the situation correctly if we expect the same level of cooperation and concerted effort, as observed towards managing COVID, to combat climate change? The fact of the matter is that the uncharted pathways of COVID are much more fearsome to the top 5% of the worlds population than the threat of climate crisis. And howsoever politically incorrect this may sound, this sections active involvement in this capitalist neoliberal world does play a critical role in inducing cooperation on a global scale.
So comparing COVID and climate crisis is like comparing apples and oranges. Both share a first-order similarity: both are fruits, or both these crises are rather unprecedented global ones; there is hardly any further major similarity. The reason we are falsely equating the two is that both are bound to adversely hit every human irrespective of their human strata, at least in principle. However, there are some crucial differences.
Biological parameters of COVID-19 demand a massive global collaboration to end the crisis. COVID-19 is caused by a highly contagious RNA virus (SARS-CoV-2), which owing to its genetic makeup, can mutate quite easily. This ability to mutate is what makes it difficult to find a potent vaccine that can offer long-term protection against the virus. Thus, the key to fighting such a virus is to vaccinate as many people as concurrently as possible so that the virus does not get the scope to mutate and eventually get eradicated in the best manner possible. Although vaccines developed so far are found to be efficacious against all the new mutants (Brazil and the UK) discovered, it may not be true for all the mutants of the virus that are expected to emerge out of India.
Apart from this biological factor, it is always going to be difficult for anyone to remain unscathed from COVID-19. Being a respiratory virus, it is highly contagious, and the pathways through which it impacts are difficult to track and contain. In spite of this, the wealthy and the influential sections of the world are looking for a COVID haven. However, to think or plan for a COVID haven or a bio-bubble is a next-to-impossible task. Even when the BCCI tried its best to implement bio bubbles for the smooth operation of one of the worlds most lucrative sporting leagues, it failed.
On the other hand, a climate haven in principle can be planned as there are places that are least likely to be impacted by the climate crisis. This will surely include colonies on other planets or in space. Although experts opine otherwise and argue against the idea of a climate haven, the rich and the influential (the top 5%) of the world are already considering climate vulnerabilities while making real-estate investments. Moreover, the temporal spread of the impacts of climate change (generally over 50-100 year timescale) will always allow sufficient time to find a climate haven which is not possible during an imminent pandemic. The possibility of a climate haven deters the super-rich from contributing to a common goal, i.e., combating climate change. The impossibility of a COVID haven exposes this population to shared risks and makes them part of the battle the masses, and even middle classes are fighting.
A recent New York Times article says that despite the best-coordinated efforts and necessary support from the privileged layer of the global society, we witnessed a great deal of ineffectiveness concerning COVID vaccine distribution; the distribution also disproportionately impacted the poorer countries. It is a no-brainer that socio-economically marginalized populations are usually the most vulnerable section in any major crisis, be it a pandemic or climate change. People in power do acknowledge the need to safeguard everyone from COVID, find it hard to act ethically and rationally during such a humanitarian crisis. Letting go of private security or comforts for the public good has never been an easy task. Clearly, it is not the social collaboration but this dismal response to COVID that would be a precursor to how the world is going to respond to the impending climate crisis.
It shows that, if anything, the response to the climate crisis is going to be even less coordinated, and the resulting circumstances are going to be far worse as the richer sections and countries can always have the option to bail out. As they say, any pandemic or global crisis can only expose the fault lines present in the society and is going to magnify the existing vulnerabilities to a different order. The grim reality we are witnessing in terms of addressing the climate crisis can only be considered to be the tip of the iceberg, and the iceberg will fully emerge only when we are faced with the climate crisis.

Mythic Quest
#YumYum
Season 2 Episode 3
Editors Rating 3 stars ***
Photo: Apple TV+
In the first scene of #YumYum, co-creative directors Ian and Poppy are getting along well. But by the end of the episode, battle lines have been drawn, potentially to last the whole season. It seems, based on this episode, that season two could become more serialized than season one.
The StageGate meeting with Montreal is next week, and Ian and Poppy have little to present for the new expansion. After disagreeing on what direction to go in, theyve elected to each independently develop their own ideas. Since theyve separated, they havent been fighting at all but thats a temporary solution to a problem that isnt going away. David, triggered by the reminder of the end of his parents marriage as well as his own deems this stage the calm before the divorce.
Brad has a simple solution to their creative stasis: capitalize on the battle-royale fad popularized by games like Fortnite and Call of Duty: Warzone. But neither Ian nor Poppy like the idea, so they decide to work out of separate offices to buckle down with their respective teams. This doesnt go well for either of them, of course, because as we know, Ian and Poppy are better together than apart.
In this case, Ian needs someone to push back more on his ideas, a request that meek Phil from the art team cant grant. (It has to happen organically, like it does with Poppy, Ian insists.) He brings in Rachel as a substitute, hoping shell be her normal, indignant, annoying self and spark his creativity.
Poppy, on the other hand, needs the opposite. Ian had this way of stroking my ego and bolstering my confidence to the point where I felt like I could overcome anything, she admits early in the episode, unhappy with her new programming teams brutal honesty. Thats when Dana wanders in, hoping Poppy will help her learn to code. She calls her maybe the most talented programmer of our generation, inspiring Poppy to bring her in to stroke her ego, just as Ian brought in Rachel to crush his. Neither strategy works, and with nothing to show for all her sleepless hours at the office, Poppy is forced to resort to Brads earlier battle-royale suggestion. Ian finds this out right as hes approaching Poppy to reconcile, and the episode ends with the two erupting into an argument, their carefully calibrated ceasefire reaching its inevitable end.
The parallels to divorce in the temporary dissolution of Ian and Poppys partnership can be funny, but theyre also predictable, and basically a repeat of the joke just two episodes ago with David and Jo in the premiere. Its hard to know how seriously to take the final scene when the tone of Ian and Poppys fight feels more comedic than dramatic; this feels more like the ending to an episode-long joke than a true shit just got real moment. I couldve done without some of the more forced divorce parallels in this scene, like Poppy pointing out that we were on a break.
Perhaps jumping back into the dating game to distract him from his divorce anxiety at work, David gets on the dating apps this episode, to little success. After suggesting David present himself like a loot box from a game a package with a tempting exterior that hides the garbage inside Brad comes up with an idea to improve his online dating skills. He pulls up a Japanese dating simulation called Divorcee Dance Party to soft-launch David, tweaking everything about his conversational style that doesnt work. That means no food pictures or drink orders hashtagged #YumYum, and no wedding photos on his dating profiles. After ten exchanges with a sim woman without her rejecting him, theyll know Davids ready to date.
David does get there, eventually only to realize he was interacting with real people the whole time when Brad drops a curtain to reveal Sue, Carol, and Paul. (Were still a little light on the ladies at MQ, so Brad explains.) Sue offers an explanation for rejecting him: David, I just cannot imagine being the vessel to your seed. Does that make sense? Carol, who thought she was testing a new HR tool for sexual harassment training when she propositioned David, is even more cutting: David, I dont want to hurt your feelings, but I could not dislike you more or be less physically attracted to you.
Needless to say, David is dispirited. But in a sweet scene, Brad assures him that he was wrong to call him a loot box. They should be thinking of him more like a burlap sack: not flashy or fun at all, but the people who buy it really need it. Brad even went to the trouble of changing Davids profiles, and set him up on a date. Its a nice ending to a subplot that thrives by showing Brad at his best: helping people in the honest, unsparing way that only he can. Maybe hes capable of being the hero after all.
In the episodes final subplot, Jo secures C.W. an extension on the long-delayed final book in his trilogy by threatening his publisher with involving C.W. in the promotion of the film adaptation something the publisher definitely doesnt want, given his propensity for politically incorrect stories. Its a slight subplot, and not exactly the meaty material I was hoping F. Murray Abraham would get; this season, hes still more of a dirty old man stereotype than a real character. But its a smart touch for Jo to take Brads wisdom (In a negotiation, what you think is your greatest strength can actually be your greatest weakness) and flip it (C.W., youre my greatest strength!).
Im also a little skeptical of Jos examples of authors whose personal views hurt their movie adaptations. The Enders Game movie was a box-office bomb, but its unclear if that was related to the boycott; after all, Orson Scott Cards opposition to same-sex marriage has been well-known since the 90s. And is it really accurate to say that J.K. Rowling got canceled with a couple keystrokes?
David lures Jo into giving him attention by using a fishing metaphor for online dating. Jo involuntarily explodes, Oh my God, David, youre not dating, youre trawling for a death partner.
When Rachel apologizes again for screwing up Grouchy Goat, Dana insists this is just a temporary roadblock. I mean, we dont want to be sitting on this couch forever, right? she exclaims. We both got big dreams. Totally, Rachel replies, but based on her expression, shes not so sure. Will the gulf in Rachel and Danas respective ambitions pose trouble for the new couple?
When David makes the mistake of making a message way too long, the sim shows the woman approaching a hunk instead. Why would they animate that? David asks.
Its Always Sunny Parallel of the Week: Brad likens the team to seagulls who should be gorging themselves on the whale carcass that is battle-royale mode. When Poppy denies being a seagull, Brad replies, Not yet youre not. Not yet Im not? Poppy says. What is that supposed to mean? What, Im just going to turn into a bird? Later, Poppy caves and goes ahead with battle royale, becoming the bird. This all calls to mind, of course, the Gang constantly referring to Dee Reynolds as a bird.
Keep up with all the drama of your favorite shows!
