Poor Ron Paul

Posted: at 1:42 am

Over the weekend, we were down in Nashville at the Stansberry Conference Series event, along with Ron Paul, Porter Stansberry, Jim Rickards and others.

The question on the table: Whats ahead for the US?

Ron Paul took up the question from a geopolitical angle. He told the crowd that the military-security industry had Congress in its pocket.

As a result, we can expect more borrowing, more spending and more pointless and futile wars. They may be bad for the country and its citizens, says Paul, but they are good for the people who make fighter jets and combat fatigues.

Weve been at war in the Middle East for decades, he said. We supported Osama bin Laden against the Soviets in Afghanistanand the result of that was the creation of al-Qaeda.

Then we supported Saddam Hussein against Iran. Saddam and bin Laden hated each other. But after 9/11 we attacked Saddam, using a bunch of lies to justify it. We sent over military equipment worth hundreds of billions of dollars. This equipment is now in the hands of ISIS another enemy we createdand a far more dangerous one.

Ron Paul is such a pure-hearted soul. What was a man like him doing in Congress?

It must have been some sort of electoral accident. Good men rarely run for public office. And when they do, it is even rarer for them to win.

Poor Ron is retired from Congress now. And he spends his time trying to get the word out. He thinks that if people only realised what was happening they would vote for more responsible leaders and more sensible policies.

Alas, thats not the way it works. The further the country goes in the wrong direction, the more people there are who have a financial interest in staying on the same road.

Former Texas Rep. and perennial presidential candidate Ron Paul may have let his son's campaign cat out of the bag on Friday, telling longtime TV host Larry King that his son, Kentucky Senator Rand Paul, is running for the White House in 2016.

'Yes, I think it's great he's doing it,' the elder Paul said on King's show 'PoliticKing,'produced by ORA.tv and broadcast on the RT (Russia Today) network.

'He has a good message and he understand free-market economics and I just think that its doing a world of good. But I also know the power and strength of the establishment and its a tough row to hoe.'

But a Rand Paul campaign insider familiar with the politician's decision-making told MailOnline hours later that his father got ahead of himself, saying that 'Senator Paul has not made a decision yet.'

Three-time presidential hopeful Dr. Ron Paul will speak about current news issues ahead of the upcoming mid-term elections on Friday, October 31st, as part of the National Center for Policy Analysis'Hatton W. Sumners Distinguished Lecture Series.

Media are invited to attend and cover. Recording is restricted to the first 5 minutes of speech.

Dr. Paul served in the U.S. Air Force as a flight surgeon in the 1960s before winning his first Congressional bid in the mid-1970s and served nine terms until his retirement last year. Paul made three unsuccessful bids for nomination as a presidential candidate as a Libertarian in 1988 and as a Republican in 2008 and 2012.

In Congress, Paul served on the House Banking Committee, where he was a strong advocate for sound monetary policy and an outspoken critic of the Federal Reserve. He also was a key member of the Gold Commission, advocating a return to a gold standard.

Paul continues to work for limited constitutional government through organizations he has founded, including the Foundation for Rational Economics and Education (FREE), Campaign for Liberty, and Liberty PAC, and his online network The Ron Paul Channel. His son, Rand, has been the junior GOP senator for Kentucky since his election in 2011.

Ron Pauls latest book, The School Revolution, offers a provocative look at Americas broken education system and what Americans can do to fix it.

Ron Pauls address kicks off a full weekend of notable speakers and events for more than 60 of the Hatton W. Sumners Foundation scholarship recipients, hosted by the NCPA. Media wishing to cover can contact Catherine Daniell.

Rand, Ron Paul split over travel ban

Posted: at 1:42 am

Ron Paul on Monday said that calls for a ban on travel from West African countries affected by Ebola are primarily politically motivated just days after his son Sen. Rand Paul announced his support for one.

Appearing on Newsmax TVs Americas Forum with former Arizona Republican Rep. J.D. Hayworth, Ron Paul said he wouldnt support a travel ban. Right now, I would say a travel ban is politically motivated more than something done for medical purposes, the former Texas congressman and three-time presidential candidate told Hayworth.

Rand Paul, the Kentucky senator openly considering a 2016 presidential bid, said on a radio show last week that a temporary travel ban is only reasonable, BuzzFeed noted Monday.

(Also on POLITICO: Rubio to introduce travel ban bill)

Many lawmakers and elected officials, mostly Republicans, have called for the Obama administration to ban travel to the U.S. from West Africa, the region where Ebola is having the heaviest impact. On Monday, GOP Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida announced he would be introducing legislation to create a temporary ban on new visas from the affected West African countries. The White House and many public health experts have pushed back against a ban, saying it would be ineffective and potentially harmful and make it more difficult to root out the disease for good.

Ron Paul, a favorite within the libertarian community, said the death of Thomas Eric Duncan, who died earlier in October in the U.S. after apparently contracting Ebola in Liberia, was not enough to justify a travel ban. Were talking about one person thats died, and we want to close down the world travel system, and yet right now, it doesnt look anything like that kind of a problem, he said. He also noted that the expected U.S. death toll for influenza is far higher than that for Ebola.

When asked whether he agreed with his sons views on Ebola, Ron Paul added: Probably not exactly, but I havent dissected every single thing.

His comments come after an interview last week with Larry King, in which the former congressman called the response in the U.S. to Ebola hysterical and way overblown.

Once we visited Ron in his office on Capitol Hill. He held a breakfast meeting with a small group of fellow Congressmen, trying to convince them to vote his way; we dont remember what was at issue.
