YLEX Expression Kit (Cat. #: FYY201-1KT).wmv
YLEX Expression Kit based on INRA INAPG licensed patent* provides an easy approach for cloning and expressing a gene of interest in the yeast, Yarrowia lipolytica. Using this kit, high level of heterologous protein may be expressed intracellularly or be secreted from the cell into medium by selecting the supplied expression vector pYLEX1 or pYLSC1. Vectors provided in the YLEX contain a strong hybrid promoter carrying four tandem copies of upstream activator sequences (UAS1B) fragment from pXPR2 and a minimal pLEU2 fragment. Unlike the frequently used Yarrowia promoter (pXPR2), this stable hybrid promoter directs protein expression constantly without multiple influences by nutritional and environmental factors in medium. When a constructed plasmid with the hybrid promoter followed by a cloned gene of interest is linearized by the selected restriction enzyme, it becomes an expression cassette that can integrate into the Y. lipolytica genome by homologous recombination within the process of transformation. The successful transformants are ready for expression or secretion of recombinant protein depending on whether secretion signal appears on the plasmid. Secrets of the human genome - Erik Lander
Eric Lander, one of our time #39;s most influential and cited researchers, visited Uppsala on 7 December to give 2012 year #39;s Gran Gustafsson lecture in medicine. He is also chairman of President Obama #39;s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology. Eric Lander is professor of biology at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and founder and director of Broad Institute, the incredibly successful biomedical centre which unites MIT and Harvard and constitutes a role model for the establishment of SciLifeLab in Uppsala and Stockholm. There, biomedical problems are tackled in a new way with new technologies, analytical methods and an interdisciplinary way of thinking.From:UppsalauniversitetViews:1 0ratingsTime:01:21:04More inScience Technology

B12: Essay (English)
An essay about life on a far away planet. - About B12 - The human race is soon to be extinct and the only way to preserve our heritage is to discover new planets. Yet it is still impossible to travel at light speed and no living being could ever arrive at the only place suitable for humans to survive and within reach for a spacecraft. Therefore scientists send the human genome on its long journey to a small moon called "B12", where people are born and raised by machines. Yet life on B12 is not what they expected it to be ... more Info on b12.b-dimension.com (German) Like on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com There is a lot more to come, these five episodes were just the beginning ;-)From:bthdimensionViews:7 0ratingsTime:03:12More inFilm Animation

Precision BioSciences Announces First Publication of Targeted Knockout Rats Using Engineered Meganuclease Technology
Posted: at 10:45 am
RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
Precision BioSciences, Inc., a leader in the field of genome engineering, today announced the publication of the first genetically modified mammals using Precisions Directed Nuclease Editor (DNE) engineered meganuclease technology. In a paper published in The FASEB Journal entitled Generation of Rag1-knockout Immunodeficient Rats and Mice using Engineered Meganucleases, researchers describe, for the first time, the application of DNE genome editing nucleases to generate rats with a desired gene permanently disabled or knocked-out.
This paper demonstrates the broad applicability and exquisite precision of our DNE technology for mammalian genome engineering, said Derek Jantz, Precision BioSciences Vice President of Scientific Development. We are thrilled that our collaborators at Centre National de Recherche Scientifique and genOway were able to utilize the technology to efficiently generate an important research model.
We are pleased that Precisions DNE technology is proving to be such a powerful tool for site-specific genome editing, said Precision BioSciences CEO Matthew Kane. We look forward to applying our technique towards the generation of greatly needed therapeutics, research and bioproduction platforms, and agricultural products.
About Precision BioSciences
Precision BioSciences mission is to continually provide, improve, and enable the worlds most powerful genome engineering technology. Precisions proprietary Directed Nuclease EditorTM (DNE) technology enables the production of genome editing enzymes that can insert, remove, modify, and regulate essentially any gene in mammalian or plant cells.
Precision BioSciences vision is to be the conduit through which the worlds greatest genome engineering challenges are solved. Precision has successfully utilized its DNE technology to create innovative products in partnerships with many of the worlds largest biopharmaceutical, agbiotech, and animal research firms. Internally, Precision is developing applications of DNE in biological production and human therapeutics. For additional information, please visit http://www.precisionbiosciences.com.

8. The Genomics Revolution NQ
At the foundation of all life is information. The first draft of the human genome was published in the Journal NATURE on February 15 2001; and accomplishment arguably eclipsing the significance of landing on the moon for its broad reaching impact on all of us and our future society. A genome is all the DNA in an organism, including its genes. Genes carry information for making all the proteins required by all organisms. We saw in the previous lecture on Gene Expression and Development that cells become specialized by the genes they express. We now know all the genes in humans, mice, dogs, rice plants and many other organisms. We can use this information to compare ourselves to other life on this planet, but also to learn more about how to diagnosis and treat diseases, how to make better crops, and how to treat cancer and other diseases. Probably none of us will go to the moon. However, knowing all the genes in humans will affect all of us in our lifetime. This lecture also adds to our knowledge about more techniques used in biotechnology, including how DNA, RNA and proteins are detected and analyzed. From:Albert KauschViews:0 0ratingsTime:01:01:18More inScience Technology
