Jason Hope Predicts Growth of Internet of Things at Home
Posted: October 15, 2014 at 9:40 am
Scottsdale, AZ (PRWEB) October 14, 2014
In the next five years, Jason Hope predicts that the average home will be smarter and more connected than ever before. With millions of people embracing the Internet of Things and connected devices almost daily, adoption and awareness is high for connectivity at home, and the home is the next frontier where these devices will be embraced to the fullest.
Hope is not the only one making note of this trend. In a recent article by Business Insider titled: THE CONNECTED-HOME: Forecasts And Growth Trends For The Leading 'Internet Of Things' Market, reported on the growth in this market as it relates to shipments and revenue. They found that the shipments of connected-home devices would grow by a rate of 67 percent over the next five years, until it reaches a point of 1.8 billion units shipped in 2019. In addition, connected-home devices will make up 25 percent of the Internet of Things shipments in 2014, and this will grow each year going forward.
What types of devices are leading this home connectivity revolution? "We are seeing great interests in home-energy equipment and security systems," states Hope. "This makes sense, as these items are easily connected to technology. As the Internet of Things continues to grow, adoption in other areas, like appliances and even personal care items, will begin to take off."
The BI Intelligence report also indicated the potential value of the Internet of Things. According to the report, this year the Internet of Things will bring in $61 billion in revenue. That is expected to grow at 52 percent through 2019.
Before people will be willing to embrace the Internet of Things at home to its fullest, Hope warns that security questions have to be addressed. "People want to know that the devices they are bringing into their homes are not going to put their safety at risk," he states. "Once security protocols and platforms are in place, we will see the Internet of Things take over in the home connectivity sector."

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) October 13, 2014
Robotics are changing the world at a dizzying pace and ABB/Thomas & Betts is on the cutting edge of the movement. Innovation is at the forefront of what ABB/Thomas & Betts do and many of the technologies that drive modern society were pioneered by ABB. In 2012 ABB merged with Thomas Betts and together they are a global leader in power and automation technologies. Their solutions improve the efficiency, productivity and quality of customers operations while minimizing environmental impact. They are a leading supplier of industrial robots, modular manufacturing systems and service. Their strong solutions focus helps manufacturers improve productivity, product quality and worker safety. To date, ABB has installed more than 250,000 robots worldwide.
Uldrich, a best selling author, trend expert and futurist is well versed in the coming trends and he will be addressing the ABB Group in West Hollywood, CA., with his talk, "Breakthrough: Ten Technological Trends Transforming Tomorrow."

In addition to discussing the technologies that will be introduced in the near future, he also poses some serious questions for his audiences: "Think about how much we already rely on machines. What would happen if those machines were no longer available, or even temporarily offline? What risk does handing a growing number of our decisions off to automation pose?"
In his book "Foresight 20/20" Uldrich puts together a plethora of future based scenarios and robotics, energy, utilities and 3D printing are just a few of his highlighted chapters. In additon to speaking to companies like Emerson (most recently at their 2014 Global Users Exchange in Orlando last week,) Eaton, PMMI, The National Association of Manufacturers, Uldrich also speaks on topics in retail, education, finance and healthcare, among others. Ansel Elgort: A futurist playing actor

DN: Between the world of "Divergent" and "Men, Women and Children," which is more dystopian?
AE: This movie has that dark undertone that the world is screwed, but I don't think the world is screwed. The story line between Kaitlyn and I is positive, and I think that there are people that no matter what happens with technology are still going to be people. It's not going to completely destroy the world.
I'm not overly worried about humans. Right now is interesting because there are a lot of people in the world who were alive before any of this happened. But that's a very short amount of time in the grand scheme of things. Very soon, everyone on the planet will be alive only when there was a smartphone, so people will really know how to handle technology and use it.
For example, there were all the iPad leaks, which someone hacked and got everyone's pictures. But in the future, people are going to know where to put the pictures and where to not put the pictures, so the hackers can't get them. People are going to become more technology-savvy because it's just going to be a part of human nature.
DN: But won't the hackers also get better at hacking?
AE: Right now it's such a specialty thing, but once it's taught in school and it's not a specialty thing, everyone will know how to hack. Everyone will know how to use technology.
DN: What will this mean for the workforce as a whole if all educated people understand tech?
AE: I don't think there will be jobs at McDonald's anymore because McDonald's will be run by machines. There's no reason to have a human give you a burger when a machine can give you a burger that's perfect and cheaper, because you don't have to pay a human to make it. That's why the only jobs will be people making machines and programming machines.
DN: That sounds like a lot of unemployed people.
AE: I think 100 years from now, there may be an 80 percent unemployment rate. It's super scary.

Humans versus machines: Who will be employed in future?
Posted: at 5:40 am
It doesnt have to be a situation where there are fewer jobs for humans in the future, says Ross Dawson
Are we heading towards a world where humans will have to compete with machines? Futurist Ross Dawson addressed this concern at the Australian Computer Society's YITCon event in Melbourne this week, and spoke about how to stay ahead of the game when it comes to jobs in the future.
Robots and artificial intelligence are getting better and better over time. So we have robot vacuum cleaners, we have robot dish washers [robots] being able to fold the laundry. Now this happens to be quite expensive machines... but we can have household robots do these kinds of tasks, said Dawson
Drivers are being challenged. Drivers may not exist. Mercedes just announced they have a semi-trailer, a big truck, which is going to drive around without a driver driving it.
More knowledge tasks are also being handed over to machines, he said. He used the example of IBMs Watson supercomputer assisting doctors by looking through hundreds of thousands of documents and data to come up with a suggested diagnosis to complex diseases such as cancer.
There is the risk that in 'outsourcing' to machines over time humans lose certain capabilities and will be unable to do some tasks manually if they ever need to in the future, Dawson said.
However, it doesnt have to be a situation where its humans versus machines and there are fewer jobs for people. He said jobs for humans are not necessarily being reduced, just changed, and its more about working together with machines to increase humans' capabilities.
A computer first managed to beat a chess grandmaster in 1997, Dawson said. Thats a long time ago and computers have come a long way since then; yet, the best computers at chess can still be beaten by humans and computers working together. The best chess in the world is played by humans and computers working together, the futurist said.
Again, doctors together with technology can be better [themselves] with the robots, the artificial intelligence.
Dawson said that the days where young people could just pass school to get a low-to-medium-skilled job and live comfortably for the rest of their lives are disappearing. With machines capable of doing many basic to complex tasks, it forces people to gain deeper expertise, become smarter in order to get work.
