Washed Out’s hypnotic sound left Charlotte in a trance – Niner Times

Posted: July 15, 2017 at 11:24 pm

Most Monday nights end without much excitement; Washed Out made sure that this Monday did not end like the rest. At 9 oclock, Ernest Greene walked on stage at The Underground, got his synthesizer and drumsticks ready, and blasted the room with Title Card the first song off of his newly released album, Mister Mellow.

Title Card seamlessly transitioned into Burn Out Blues, a song with so many instrumental layers that its hard not to thoroughly lose oneself in the waves. Washed Outs style can be hard to place, considering how it pulls from multiple genres electronic, hip-hop, funk, disco and more. Some have labeled him a pioneer in the electronic sub-genre called Chillwave. The title seems perfectly fitting.

It can be difficult for electronic-style musicians to shine in a live scene, especially if they have an incredibly detailed sound like Greenes, yet he was able to bring his music to life with the help of his guitarist and drummer.

A colorful ever-changing projection played over the band, only adding to the experience. It helped to bring a psychedelic mood to the night, with its bright rings of color and perfectly tinted silhouettes of the members as they performed.

All coupled together, the concert felt almost like a time machine, drifting ever so slowly back in time, pulling bits and pieces of music from each decade, making especially long pit stops in the 60s and 70s.

But Greenes music isnt only exceptional because of the way it sounds, but because of his message behind the music. He talks about the every day struggle of a dull, cyclical life. One that is easy for the best of us to fall into. His style of music reflects what he wants to say. Its meant to relax, help regroup, and reenergize. Not by being in your face, but by creating a sound so soothing its impossible not to let go of your everyday problems, if only for five minutes.

The night continued its chill vibes with Feel It All Around, a huge crowd pleaser. Its one of the songs that truly put Washed Out on the map through its use as the theme song of the show Portlandia.

Washed Outs creative sound kept the crowd engaged the entire night. Their hypotonic, trancelike music is all their own, which only brings their audience in, keeping them guessing for what is to come in the future.

My first Reliquary experience began in Atlanta at TomorrowWorld 2014 when Chris Orosco aka Reliquary took to the Trance Addict stage to bestow upon the crowd a set that I will never forget. With a brilliant ear for what trance fans crave, Reliquary fast became one of the standout sets among a lineup stacked with trance royalty. Since then, not only have I have become a die-hard fan but also a friend of this insanely talented rising star of the South.

It is vividly clear that Reliquary is a true master behind the decks, delivering dance floor fire both live and on air with his radio shows Pantheon and Where Is The Sunset, but he is also wildly active within the scene as a promoter for Unity Events Atlanta, made up of a group of passionate individuals working hard to give trance a voice in A-Town! If you are looking for trance with true emotion and a set that takes you beyond the far reaches of the heavensthen Reliquary is an artist that you must not miss!

Do you love your beats dark and are you obsessed with the techier side of trance? Then look no further than Indecent Noise as he will be coming with some of the hardest trance beats that your ears can handle.

Born Aleksander Stawierej in Poland, Indecent Noise was destined to become a DJ/producer. At the age of 7, he was already falling in love with electronic music and by 2006 he was releasing remixes on Jood Deep and Inaspace. The following year he would sign contracts with Neuroscience Recordings and Kerf Music, and in 2008, winning a remix competition based off of Wildfires set him on the path to stardom.

Producing tracks like Dirty Secret, Aerospark, Glitches, Full Moon Fever, Protos Heis, Hydra, and Strike Force, the talent of this man cannot be denied. Of course, with every successful DJ, comes a successful radio show, and for him, it is none other than his own, Noise Sessions and Mental Asylum Radio, on trance.fm,Totaal fm, Discover Trance Radio and PureSound.fm.

Indecent Noise cordially welcomes you into his Mental Asylum;a world where all bets are off and the beats drive your feet to move in ways you never thought possible. Trance fans who have witnessed this man in action will tell you that with no question, Indecent Noise brings the passion, the intensity, and the energy at every show he is a part of!

Swindon, UKs own Dan Willis & Jules Moyce are the two brilliant men behind the fan favoriteNeptune Project. Their epic extended sets that have been dubbedthe ultimate journey in trance have helped to secure them as a household name in the trance scene. And when it comes to their studio productions, their unrivaled and next level visionary artistry trumps all others.Throughout the years these boys have developed quite the stunning brand with a sound that tells a unique story, defining the beautiful and multi-dimensional powerhouse that is trance.

For my next two picks, I had to show some love to a couple ladies that are taking the trance scene by storm, reminding us that this is not just a mans world! First up is Solar Power Sessions very own Suzy Solar, a trance dynamo who has established herself as one of the most sought after acts in the industry since bursting onto the scene back in 1997. In fact, her track Ocean of Love is even featured on Paul Oakenfolds Grammy nominated album Creamfields! Yes, producing incredible trance music runs through this womans blood! Just look at Samurai, her collaboration with Arizona (Thomas Bronzwaer) that has graced dance charts worldwide, including Beatports top 10. This is just one of her many productions that have received support from the worlds top trance DJs, including Armin Van Buurenand Ferry Corsten!

Beyond her presence behind the decks, her company Solar Power Music, Inc throws trance events regularly in Central Florida and beyond. A true pioneer for trance in her hometown, Suzy has played in more than nine countries, both headlining and opening for the biggest names in trance, such as Armin van Buuren, Ferry Corsten, Paul Oakenfold, Above & Beyond, Cosmic Gate, and more. I have had the amazing opportunity to see this woman at work when she opened for Mark Sherry at Bikkuri Lounge for Lost In Trancelation,a monthly trance event held in Orlando, Florida hosted by fellow MTTR artist Robb Blak. I can tell you from experience that Suzy Solar is a divine trance force to be reckoned with!

Rounding out my top picks I have chosen the ruling trance lady who has sat on the Queens throne since she broke out into the scene back in 2002.With records out on Armin Van Buurens Armada, Paul Van Dyks Vandit and U.S. mega-label Ultra, while holding a coveted residency at the world-famous Avalon Hollywood, its easy to see why Kristina Sky is one of Americas brightest shining Electronic Dance Music stars.

Born and raised in Los Angeles, shes been DJing to thousands of passionate dance music fans since 2002, coast-to-coast in the U.S. and around the world from China to the Philippines, Ecuador to Guatemala and Canada to Costa Rica.Kristina is undoubtedly one of Americas most beloved EDM ambassadors. Her live set recordings, guest mixes, and popular radio show, TRANCELATE, generate tremendous support from her ever-growing fan base, broadcasting worldwide via satellite, FM and the internet.

If we take a look at Kristinas impressive resume it becomes clear that both her DJ sets and original productions run the trance gamutfrom warm and groovy progressive house to emotional, melodic and uplifting trance. My first taste of Kristina Sky in action unveiled itself way back in 2012 when she stunned me with her unmatched trance brilliance during the A State of Trance take over at Electric Daisy Carnival. Immediately I knew that Kristina Sky would forever and always be an indispensablemember of our beloved trance family and have always wanted the chance to see her live once again! I hope you will join me on the dance floor as I am reunited with the sweet sounds of Kristina Sky for the second time!

Cosmic Gate Premiere Monster Trance Track and Announce New … – EDM Sauce

Posted: at 4:22 am

Earlier in the year, Cosmic Gate released their highly anticipated album Materia: Chapter. One (you can read my full review of that album here). The nine-track album had some major hits behind it including Fall Into You with JES and Spectrum with Ilan Bluestone. In a previous interview I had with the boys, they mentioned that they were planning on putting out the second chapter of their album later in the year.

Fast forward to today, Bossi and Nic have come through with their promise of a round two of Materia by dropping their latest track, Tonight with Emma Hewitt. The track premiered last night during Armin van Buuren's A State of Trance 821 radio show. The new single will be part of a nine-track collection which will see the trance duo team up with big names like Markus Schulz, Eric Lumiere and Super8 & Tab among others.

The single starts off strong by building into a heavy thumping beat and eventually introducing Hewitt's beautiful vocals. By the middle of the track, a dancefloor-ready drop envelops the lyrics Hewitt can be found crying, ton-i-i-i-ght only to have a steady dispense back into the thumping synth beats that carry it towards its end.

The track blends itself perfectly with the sounds of Materia- Chapter. One and continues Cosmic Gate's domination of progressive trance tracks they have been known to deliver.

Materia- Chapter. Two is due out on September first, but you can pre-order the album here. Take a listen to Cosmic Gate and Emma Hewitt's Tonight:

And for a sneak-peek of what other sounds Materia- Chapter. Two will contain, check out the album teaser:

[Exclusive Interview] Ferry Corsten: No Blueprint for Trance – EDM Sauce

Posted: July 7, 2017 at 2:21 am

Ferry Corsten needs no introduction; the man practically created the melodic sounds now known as trance music. Almost twenty years after he introduced us to the build ups and crashes of melodies, Ferry continues to explore the rhythmic harmonies of trance, allowing it to create a story through his latest album, Blueprint.

I caught up with Ferry at EDC Las Vegas right before he was about to take the stage and play amongst thousands of fans from around the world. Even though we did chat with Ferry earlier this year (you can read Meagen's piece here), he did get a bit more candid in regards to his take on the current state of trance (no pun intended) and how fan reception has been since his album release.

Q: You're about to perform at EDC Las Vegas for the hundred millionth time, tell me, do you still get nervous?

A: Haha. Yeah, I've played many EDC's and there's always excitement, but it's not the nerves anymore. The nerves have traded places with excitement.

Q: Any special guests with you tonight?

A: Yeah, actually. I'll be bringing out Haliene and she's going to be doing three songs live.

Q: You also just released a new album, Blueprint. Are you focusing on that for your set?

A: Yes I am. With a new album out, you really have something to present and there's a few tracks that I am including tonight. You don't have much time when you are playing at a festival, but I really hope I'm able to tell the story of Blueprint in the hour or so I have.

Q: What stands out the most out of your latest album, Blueprint?

A: The fact that the emotion of the music is backed up by a real story. Everyone always says, I'm doing an album and it tells a story. Well, this album ACTUALLY tells a story.

Q: You released the album with a narrative and then again without. Why?

A: That was always the plan. I knew that when I released an album with spoken word it wasn't going to be everyone's cup of tea. But that's the way I wanted to present the album, that is how I meant it. After a few weeks, we released it again for people who may not want to listen to the narrative. I knew that people would be like, I'm not too sure about the narrative. but I've also seen people who said on social media, man, I can't listen to the album without it.

Q: Now that you mention social media, how connected are you online and with your online fanbase?

A: Fairly connected. I don't like to have social media dominate my life even though it does create a fanbase.

Q: I'm asking because there's been a lot of debate online recently about what is considered Trance' music. You've been at the forefront of trance since the beginning, what's your take on it?

A: Well, on a personal level, I feel that trance is the sound that was big from 1999 until about 2004. I feel like I'm partly to blame for this because I started to experiment with a little bit of electro and gave it a little bit of a grittier sound.

But, what I really think that trance isit's not a sound, it's a feeling. I could listen to some techno DJ playing 122 BPM and then there's this amazing melody coming out of it and that could be trance. I could also listen to Aly & Fila at 140 BPM and I could get the same feeling.

Where I did see it go wrong was when the big EDM Big Room bubble spilled over into trance. I had to stand up and say, this isn't trance anymore.

Q: So it does affect you and the way you produce your music?

A: Yeah, of course it does. I'm very passionate about that sound.

You can stream and download Ferry Corsten's latest album, Blueprint, here.
