How to get the Half-Truths and best God Rolls in Destiny 2 – Gamepur
Posted: December 13, 2021 at 2:32 am
The 30th Anniversary Pack for Destiny 2 brings a little bit of Bungie history into the developers popular MMO/FPS hybrid. The Half-Truths is one of the weapons added in the new arsenal of weapons from Xurs interdimensional hoard of loot, and Halo fans may find its glowing blue edge familiar.
Half-Truths is an Adaptive Frame sword, sharing the archetype with its counterpart The Other Half and older swords like the Steel Sybil Z-14 and Negative Space. Fans can grab it from the chest near Xur in the Treasure Hoard on Eternity or as a reward from Xurs Strange Engrams.
Half-Truths shares a number of perks with the Negative Space sword in the world drop pool, especially on the edge and guard side. Honed Edge is a pure damage buff, while Jagged Edge makes the sword even more effective at the cost of some ammo for swings.
Things get more interesting as we move on to the swords main perks. The new Duelists Trance perk brings a higher charge rate, efficiency, and defense to the weapon until you stow it, encouraging players to keep the sword out for an extended period of time to chop down foes. Standby perk Relentless Strikes is a nice alternative if yours doesnt drop with this one, instead granting some ammo back after landing a three-hit combo on a large enemy or a big group.
Eager Edge is the primary perk fans will want to look out for on the Half-Truths. Added in the 30th Anniversary Pack update, the perk adds extra lunge distance to the sword for a short time immediately after switching to it. In addition to the combat utility, this perk legitimizes a classic Destiny tradition: sword skating. By changing to the weapon mid-air and swinging rapidly during a jump, players can use the sword to keep themselves afloat, much like the classic technique used unofficially on swords like the Worldline Zero. Rather than only working best for Titans, all Guardians can take advantage of it this time around.
En Garde may not be as flashy a perk as Eager Edge, but it provides a nice alternative if Guardians cant get their hands on a Half-Truths with the perk. Quick attacks with the sword do additional damage with the perk, making it hit harder in less time.

Enter The Dream House of La Monte Young: the avant-garde pioneer who inspired The Velvet Underground – Far Out Magazine
Posted: at 6:13 am
Walk along Church Street, just south of New Yorks Tribeca Grand Hotel, and youll notice an iridescent pink glow emanating from the third floor of number 275, an apartment known to those who care to ask as The Dream House. With its pink walls and tin-foil floors, this trip-inducing sound and light installation was created by one of the most pioneering artists of the 1960s, La Monte Young, a man who sat in the centre of the avant-garde scene that flourished in the city during those years, and whos incredible work in sound and visual art influenced everyone from Biran Eno and Yoko Ono to Lou Reed and John Cale.
Young was always sensitive to the world of sound. From an early age, he was struck by the droning sound of the wind sweeping along the vast Idaho plains, a natural force that, although invisible, seemed to have as much presence as any human being. Its no wonder then that his first instrument was one that utilised the power of breath, the saxophone. A prodigious talent from a young age, Young eventually abandoned jazz for the enigmatic world of the avant-garde in 1960, going on to establish himself as one of the leading figures of the new york avant-garde, at which time he began curating experimental art performances with his friend Yoko Ono. These loft-bound concerts served as a meeting place for some of New Yorks most experimental young musicians and artists, including Terry Riley, one of the founding fathers of classical minimalism alongside Phillip Glass and Steve Reich.
Young first met Riley when the two were graduate students in the 1950s, at which time Rileys work was heavily influenced by the atonalism and serialism of Stravinsky, Schoenberg, and Messiaen. Young, however, was far more interested in the work of fringe composers like John Cage, whose conceptual and proto-minimalist compositions inspired his idea to blend multiple drones together to create an ambient wash of sound. Youngs pioneering explorations of drones eventually led him to form the Theatre of Eternal Music in 1962, a group which consisted of La Monte Young (voice and saxophone) Tony Conrad (violin), Marian Zazeela (voice, lighting,) and John Cale (viola). Their musical aesthetic centred on a set of improvisational and mathematical rules laid down by Young himself and which were designed to guide the musicians as they tuned their instruments to non-western tunings and went about creating a mesmeric series of sustained microtones. These early compositions were greatly inspired by Hindustani classical music and, like that ancient musical style, were intended to induce a state of trance.
When the young violist John Cale met a budding songwriter called Lou Reed, he bought his experimental musical leanings with him, combining them with Reeds rough-shod pop songwriting to create an early incarnation of The Velvet Underground called The Primitives. Cales amplified viola drones quickly defined the groups primordial, deeply textural sound, the startling nature of which sent their early audiences fumbling for the exit. But Cale and Reed were unphased, they knew they were on to something great. As The Primitives picked up steam, the pair began rehearsing for hours at a time, Cales voila drones ebbing through the walls and seeping into the fabric of the groups sound all the while. These all-night sessions spawned many of the songs that would go on to form The Velvet Undergrounds first album, the sound of which would simply not have existed without La Monte Young.
Heroin, Venus In Furs, All Tomorrows parties, these songs contain the same faintly warped, trance-inducing textures that scale had been creating with Young in The Theatre of Eternal Music but the influence of Young goes beyond The Velvet Underground. The material on Reeds solo venture, Metal Machine Music was created by leaving several guitars tuned around the same note to feedback while leaning against hot valve amps, clearly revealing an absorption of the techniques Young created in the early 60s. Indeed, over the next four decades, Youngs pioneering work went on to inspire everyone from Krautrock adventurers Neu! to shoegaze pioneers My Bloody Valentine. Clearly, La Monte Youngs influence cannot be understated. As Brian Eno once put it, Young really was the daddy of us all.

See the light with LAYER Designs new meditation headset for Resonate
LAYERs latest foray into tomorrows technology is this new headset, a collaboration with the American start-up Resonate
Designed to enhance and accelerate the gentle art of meditation for a faster moving age, Resonates LightVision headset incorporates a series of LEDs that pipe a sequence of patterns into your visual cortex, activating the brains frequency-following response. Apparently theres a growing body of research that shows that a combination of vibration, sound, and light can subdue our racing thought patterns and make it easier to switch off and slow down. The headset is part of Resonates larger system of personal wellness that includes a chair and matching ottoman designed by Alexander Diaz Andersson, together with a pair of headphones and a six-month subscription of the companys proprietary content library. Plug the chair in, slip on the glasses and headphones, and treat yourself to a twenty-minute calming session.
All the components are designed to complement each other and be as un-tech as possible. This alternative physical appearance is down to Benjamin Hubert and his team at LAYER, who have softened the appearance of the LightVision and made it more tactile. For a start, theres the textile-wrapped casing, which is paired with a integrated adjustable strap so that it can follow the contours of the face. Keeping light out is extremely important, enabling the matrix LED display to pump in an array of dynamic lighting patterns in sync with the customised soundtrack. There are also lighting strips that cast a soft glow onto the face of the user, a way of signalling to any bystanders that youre deeply immersed.
LAYER describes the headset as operating at the cutting-edge science of neural entrainment, and whether or not you think more tech is the way to escape the deluge of tech-induced delirium, the device is more reminiscent of a soothing spa treatment than a piece of high technology. The LED lights take natural forms and movement and translates it into an abstract ever-changing sequence of biomorphic patterns. Hence you get abstracted representations of things like shoals of fish or waving trees, with the idea being that these naturally occurring rippling patterns of light combined with the subtle and synchronised vibrations coming through the chair and a soundtrack of monaural and binaural beats and isochronic tones will send you into a trance in no time at all. Resonates studies suggest that a daily dose of their system helps lower stress and anxiety and can even treat depression just as effectively as meditation.
Theres a deliciously West Coast ambience to all this, a synthesis of Sixties spiritualism and 21st century technocracy. Regardless of the science, the idea of being able to escape to a liminal space of light, movement, and sound is undeniably attractive. We live in an increasingly hectic world where we are constantly inundated with digital interactions, the media, and more recently the impact of a pandemic, says Hubert, In this world, mindfulness and meditation is more relevant than ever before.

The new Giant Trance Advanced Pro 29 trail bike gets more travel and adjustable geometry for 2022 – BikeRadar
Posted: December 3, 2021 at 5:07 am
Giant, it seems, has been rapidly overhauling every single bike it produces within the Trance line-up (we saw a new Trance X Advanced Pro 29 and Trance X 29 launch last year, then the brand unveiled a new Trance X and Trance X Advanced E+ e-MTB). Today, its the turn of the Trance Advanced Pro 29 trail bike.
This time around, the new Trance Advanced Pro 29 gets a fully revamped carbon frame, more aggressive, adjustable geometry, more rear-wheel travel and some in-demand internal frame storage.
Giant says the focus of this new trail bike is speed and efficiency when tackling technical terrain.
Giant first introduced us to the Trance Advanced Pro 29 four years ago, placing it somewhere between its lightweight cross-country race whippets and burly, heavy-hitting trail bikes.
At that point, you could argue it was one of the earliest short-travel trail machines commonly now referred to as downcountry bikes.
While the new bike may sound a touch more aggressive, with the hike in rear-wheel travel and changes to the geometry, its singletrack-slaying intentions are very much the same.
A hatch part way down the upper side of the Trance Advanced Pro 29s down tube gives access to the internal frame storage. Giant
One of the headlines here has to be the new internal frame storage. Giant has included a hatch on the upper side of the down tube that allows you to squirrel away key tools should you need to carry out a trailside repair.
Giant claims theres enough room to stash a CO2 inflator, inner tube, multi-tool and even a snack, which can be wrapped up in the water-resistant bag thats included. The hatch cover has fittings for a bottle cage, too.
Giant has bumped rear-wheel travel up from 115mm to 120mm, delivered using its twin-link Maestro suspension system. Giant
Well, yes, potentially. The 5mm bump in travel over the previous Trance Advanced Pro 29 takes rear-wheel travel up to 120mm, which should help to soak up a lot of the trail chatter but remain efficient and taut enough to feel sprightly when you put the power down.
The 120mm of travel is delivered via Giants tried and trusted Maestro, twin-link suspension system. This includes the new Advanced forged composite upper-rocker link, which Giant claims to be not just lighter, but stronger and stiffer than the equivalent link made from aluminium.
Over the years, weve always been impressed with the Maestro system, and any long-term test bikes weve had have always stood up well to the elements, thanks in part to their double-sealed pivot bearings.
Giant says it has tidied up the cable ports for 2022, helping them look neater and reducing any irritating cable rattle. Giant
Alongside the bigger, more headline-grabbing changes to the Trance Advanced Pro 29, Giant has also tweaked this and that, here and there in a bid to make it one of the top contenders on the trail.
Giant claims its new integrated cable ports (which guide the gear and dropper hose, plus the rear brake hose) look cleaner and help to reduce any irritating cable rattle when tackling rougher trails.
The Trance Advanced Pro 29 frame has some well-positioned protection on the underside of the down tube and along the length of the drive-side chainstay. Giant
Theres enough room through the rear stays to fit a 2.5in tyre, while ISCG-05 tabs around the bottom bracket allow you to fit a chainguide and bash guard if youre looking to tackle terrain thats a little more extreme.
Neatly integrated frame protection helps to shield the frame from rock strikes and trail debris, while silencing any chain slap.
As has been the common theme with the other Trance models launched over this past year or so, the Trance Advanced Pro 29 also welcomes the ability to have its geometry adjusted.
Flip chips in the seatstay/rocker link pivot allow riders to switch between the high and low settings, depending on what terrain theyre riding. Giant
Flip chips located in the seatstay/rocker link pivot can be rotated to alter the Trance Advanced Pro 29 angles. There are two settings to choose from high or low which differ by 0.7 degrees at the head and seat angle, and alter the bottom-bracket height by 10mm.
In the high setting, the head angle is a claimed 66.2 degrees, while the seat angle sits at a steep 77 degrees (or 78 on the size small frame). This setting also provides 35mm of bottom-bracket drop.
Shift to the low setting, and Giant claims the head angle slackens out to 65.5 degrees, making it possibly the most relaxed in the downcountry bike category. The seat angle does slacken off slightly to 76.3 degrees, but should still feel steep enough for efficient pedalling when seated. The low setting delivers a hefty 45mm of bottom-bracket drop.
Giant has extended the Trance Advanced Pro 29s reach, too, with figures ranging from 430mm on the size small through to 515mm on the extra large when in the high setting. Reach measurements decrease by 8mm when you switch to the low setting.
Giants Adam Craig putting the new Trance Advanced Pro 29 through its paces. Giant
In a bid to help create a well-centred, balanced ride, Giant has opted to use 437mm effective chainstays across all sizes. These grow to 439mm when the bike is in the low setting.
Will these two settings provide two different sets of ride characteristics? The proof, as they say, is always in the pudding, so as soon as weve ridden the bike, well report back.
Giant says the high position should be good for riding slower, tighter technical terrain, while the low setting offers more stability and speed.
In our experience, weve generally preferred the low setting and the confidence it provides, especially through the turns. That said, having 10mm of bottom-bracket adjustment is nothing to be sniffed at if youre planning on riding really chunky, rocky trails where you need a decent amount of pedal clearance.
The lightweight trail or downcountry market (or whatever you want to call it) has really gathered momentum these last couple of years.
While some brands use their cross-country offerings as a template before boosting rear-wheel travel and sticking a burlier fork in place, along with a tougher set of tyres (such as the Cannondale Scalpel SE LTD or Specialized Epic EVO Expert that we reviewed earlier this year), other brands such as Nukeproof trim the fat from their trail bikes to create something like the Reactor 290 Carbon ST.
Cannondales Scalpel SE LTD is built around fast-rolling 29in wheels. Steve Behr / Immediate Media
While the former approach tends to yield super-fast, efficient bikes thatll cover ground quickly, they can struggle on more demanding terrain. Conversely, Nukeproofs approach helps to create a bike thats more than at home on tough, technical terrain, but doesnt quite possess the same muscular zip as those derived from cross-country frames.
Then, of course, there are bikes such as the Transition Spur X01 that we reviewed earlier this year and gave full marks. As a bike thats been designed specifically for this type of riding (its neither been spawned from a lightweight cross-country bike or a burlier trail bike) compromise is limited and the end result is a rocket ship of a bike, whether its pointed up or down.
If we were Giant, wed have set our sights firmly on a bike such as the Transition Spur and attempted to better it. As it stands, its a category leader for sure and one that we feel sets the standard.
We cant ignore the Santa Cruz Tallboy either, which matches the new Trance Advanced Pro 29 in terms of front and rear travel, as well as intentions on the trail.
Giant is offering three different Trance Advanced Pro 29 models to choose from in 2022.
All three models use the same Advanced-Grade composite frames, Fox suspension, adjustable TranzX droppers that are easy to adjust (the small gets a 120-150mm post, medium a 140-170mm post, while the large and extra-large use a 170-200mm post) and Shimano brakes.
The tyres across all models are identical, too. Giant has wisely specced a Maxxis Minion DHF 3C MaxxTerra EXO 292.5in WT up-front and an Aggressor EXO 292.5in at the rear.

Sky Raye, also known as Amy Caprio, is pictured.PHOTO PROVIDED
Sky Raye, also known as Amy Caprio, is a naturally gifted psychic medium, spiritual healer, teacher, mentor and business coach from Central Pennsylvania.
She is a published author, has in the past worked with paranormal investigators affiliated with the Travel Channel, has worked on a number of unsolved missing persons cases, and will soon be featured in a documentary about a notoriously haunted asylum.
In January of 2020, Raye launched her own business, as she decided to make mediumship and spiritual teaching her full time job, reaching a wide range of people in need of spiritual guidance.
In her best-selling book, Find Your Voice in the Darkness, Shine Your Light to Serve Your Soul Purpose, Raye shares her own accounts with the paranormal world, as well as her spiritual wisdom and insights that she has gained through experience.
The book is intended to give its audience a sense of peace and validation, as well as a deeper understanding of the spiritual realm.
Coming out as a psychic medium wasnt an easy decision for Raye, as she faces the stigma attached to the label.
Its hard because people use labels. Id rather label myself saying I am a psychic medium. Im many things, but so people dont label me, I gave myself that title. And it was hard for me. I understood that I had to take a risk of rejection, Raye said.
Taking that risk has been worth it, she says, as she now finds herself with more opportunity than ever to share her gifts.
Every day, its a blessing. Because the things that come up every time, whether its a reading that I do for family, a group or collectively for hundreds of people, theres always that collective message. Youre always learning, youre always developing and getting better with the information that you gather so that youre able to share when you collaborate with people that are like minded, Raye said.
The documentary, Field of Fears, The Haunting of Randolph County Asylum, that Raye is featured in is expected to come out in late 2021.
The documentary follows a team of paranormal investigators as they explore a notoriously haunted asylum in the state of Indiana.
The team, including Trance Medium, Pat OKeefe M.S., and Psychic Medium, Ronda L Caudill, PhD., search for answers from the spirits on the grounds of the asylum.
Raye was present to help communicate with the spirits, and lead an electric spirit circle, similar to a seance, for the group.
Above all, Raye says that her desire to help others has always been her main focus.
I (have been) dedicated to helping people and also developing and devoting my time to understanding the unknown, so that I can help others. It gives me more opportunities to reach more people and help more people with a bigger impact, said Raye.
Raye offers clients intuitive counseling and advice, individual readings, group readings, house cleansings, and more.
Her book, Find Your Voice in the Darkness, Shine Your Light to Serve Your Soul Purpose, is available at Amazon.com.

The 5 Best DJ Mixes of November 2021 – Pitchfork
Posted: at 5:07 am
Every month, Philip Sherburne listens to a whole lot of mixes so you only have to listen to the best ones.
Not long ago, Objekt had a revelation behind the decks at New Yorks Nowadays club. He was operating on two hours of sleep, jetlagged, and tasked with keeping the dancefloor going for nine hours. But as the night progressed, something clicked, some ineffable combination of music, audience, and vibes; he has since described the night as probably the best DJing experience of my life. For those of us who werent there, its impossible to say what it might have felt like on the dancefloor. But Objekts four-part recording of the full nine-hour set indicates that it was one hell of a journey. The first part is everything you could ask for in a warm-up session: ambient pads, dubbed-out drums, and a long, gradual climb in tempo, touching on vintage Aphex Twin, hip-house, and Balearic beats along the way. Part two brings the heat, slipping sideways through house, bass music, breakbeats, and grime. With part three, he ups the energy, folding vintage trance and acid into gqom and drumnbass. The final quarter is the real tour de force, going from hairpin-twisting dnb into trip-hop, freestyle, and Autechres woozy remix of SOPHIEs Bipp. As the end draws near, he takes bigger and bigger risks; with less than 30 minutes to go, he beatmatches from the atmospheric techno of Forest Drive Wests Lost Signal into Colleens acoustic Im Kin. For a few minutes, theres nothing but plucked harp and wafting vocals until a gravelly techno rhythm extends a lifeline back to the dancefloor. In the club, at that delirious moment, it must have felt like swimming underwater.
Back in April, The Trilogy Tapes tapped London DJ Josey Rebelle for a 90-minute mixtape that sold out almost as fast. Now, theyve upped the whole set to SoundCloud. Weaving between soul-jazz, drum solos, deep techno, R&B, vintage house, and more, its a beautiful example of the range that Rebelle routinely brings to the decks, but theres nothing performative about her eclecticism: Even with all that zig-zagging, she carefully constructs a coherent vibemoody, murky, a little melancholyand uses spoken-word fragments and treated snippets of sound like caulk to fill the seams. Where the first half is mostly heads-down house, the back halfthe B side of the actual cassetteups the tempo, slipping from steely techno into bare-knuckled breakbeat hardcore and jungle crosscut with dub sirens. Its this years most faithful evocation of a vintage UK pirate-radio broadcast.
MMMs recent album On the Edge takes the German duos trademark energy and inverts it: In place of strung-out techno anthems, they sink into woozy, spacious grooves, each one slower than the last. In their Bleep mix, they illustrate some of the inspirations behind their curveball of a record, slipping between album cuts and the songs that influenced them. A spooky 1983 cut from UK post-punks Shriekback sets up the melancholy aura of their own Where Does Ghosting End. A pair of spongy dub cutsthe Wailers Bands Higher Field Marshall Dub and King Tubby & the Aggrovators DRude Dubberflank MMMs So Nigh, underscoring the latter songs aerated interior. Toward the end, they delve into a pair of spacious dubstep tunes from Burial and Pinch, highlighting the influence of UK bass music on MMMs relentlessly reduced sound design. My favorite stretch is the one that leads from the icy pads of MMMs Everything Falls into Place through disco-sampling breakbeat house from Anthony Shake Shakir and a wildly experimental reverb fugue from Pepe Bradock, only to end up with the reassuring boom-bap of Dillas Welcome 2 Detroitthree radically different examples of artists doing less with more.
Stefan Laubner is an alchemist: For nearly 20 years, hes been turning dust into gold, harnessing hissing line noise and vinyl crackle into some of the deepest dub techno out there. Though wildly prolific, with more than 70 releases under his STL alias, he also keeps a low profile: Aside from the occasional appearance on Perlon, Smallville, or Echocord, the majority of his work has appeared on his own label, Something; long based in a small town in Germanys Harz mountains, he seldom turns up on the usual club lineups or festival bills. He makes a rare appearance on the decks here, meting out three and a half hours of well-worn vinyl: vintage minimal, classic Chicago house, and even the odd Moby track. Even when the tracks are familiar, though, its all put together with STLs typically shadowy panache, gleaming beneath layers of grit.
Noncompliant often fills her sets with lean, tracky techno from the 90s, but in a new mix for Berlin label/promoters Mothers Finest, she sets aside four-to-the-floor beats in favor of the switchbacking, syncopated cadence of classic electro. Most of her selections are drawn from the past few years, though she reaches back to the turn of the millennium with Fastgraphs sullen 3DES and revives the genres 90s heyday with Will Webs rubbery Spacewalk, a 1995 cut from the iconic Direct Beat label. She covers plenty of ground along the wayDetroit, Brazil, Holland, her native Indianapolisbut her selections are chosen and mixed in such a way that they all feel like facets of a single sparkling polyhedron. She describes the arc of the music as an attempt to replicate the emotional roller-coaster of the past two years, veering between bottomless despair and flashes of optimism. But if the set gets pretty bleak in places, it begins and ends with heartfelt expressions of hope. Electro has always had a science-fiction fascination, and in Noncompliants hands, it also makes the perfect soundtrack for our own dystopian present.
