Erik Jones Ready for Another Graduation at TMS – Speedway Digest (press release) (blog)

Posted: April 7, 2017 at 9:05 pm

Erik Jones might be a rookie in the NASCAR Cup Series, but when it comes to Texas Motor Speedway (TMS) the driver of the No. 77 5-hour ENERGY Toyota Camry has already graduated more than once, literally and figuratively.

Jones made his NASCAR Truck Series debut at the very fast l.5-mile Texas tri-oval on June 6, 2014. The then 18-year-old had to bypass his high school graduation ceremonies to participate in the event so Texas Motor Speedway conducted a personal ceremony for him on the pre-race stage. With Jones wearing his Swartz Creek (Mich.) High School red cap and gown over his firesuit, track president Eddie Gossage presented him with both his high school diploma as well as one for graduating to become age-eligible to compete at 1.5-mile tracks, something he wasnt able to do just the week before his May 31 birthday. He went on to qualify fifth and finished the race in 11thplace.

The graduation ceremony Eddie Gossage and the track staff did for me was special, Jones said. It was the actual night of my high school graduation back home so it meant a lot to me for them to go out of their way to do something like that.

Entering Sundays OReilly Auto Parts 500 at TMS, the 20-year-old Byron, Mich., native is 13thin the 2017 NASCAR Cup Series driver standings after a second consecutive 12th-place finish last week at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway. Jones earned three additional championship points for finishing eighth in the second stage of the race. His 144 points place him two behind Kasey Kahne for 12thand 10 behind Kevin Harvick for 10th.

Jones record in NASCARs three national series at TMS includes one victory, three other top-five finishes, one other top-10 finish and two pole positions.. He made his second NASCAR Cup Series start Nov. 8, 2015, starting sixth and finishing 12thwhile subbing for Matt Kenseth in the No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota Camry.

He also captured the pole position and earned his first NASCAR XFINITY victory April 10, 2015 in his series debut at TMS, and has gone on to earn a second and two fourth-place finishes in three other XFINITY Series starts.

Texas Motor Speedway has always been a neat place for me, Ive always done a lot of neat things there, Jones continued. It used to be the old worn our surface that made Texas so unique, how rough it was and hard it was to get your car to work over those bumps. But the repave and the changes theyve made to the banking in Turns 1 and 2 makes it unique in a whole new way.

The Furniture Row Racing 5-hour ENERGY Toyota Camry team has had a good season so far. Weve had fast cars and run up front at times. The biggest thing I look at is if weve gotten better every week. That was the ultimate goal starting the year with a new team. Weve managed to do that and now we just have to keep on that track, execute better at the end of the races and start to hammer out the finishes I know were capable of.

In the five races since finishing 39that theseason-openingDaytona 500, the No. 77 Furniture Row Racing team has secured five top-15 results with an average starting position of 13.6 and an average finishing position of 12.2.

The 334-lap (501 miles) OReilly Auto Parts 500 will consist of three stages of 85/85/164 laps (laps 85/170/334). In each of the first two stages, drivers finishing in the top-10 will receive championship points (10 to 1) with the winner receiving one playoff point. The overall race winner will earn 40 championship points and five playoff points. Playoff points accumulated during the season will carry through the first three of the four playoff rounds.

Sundays OReilly Auto Parts 500 will air live beginning at 1 p.m.ET on the Fox network. Qualifying (multi-vehicle, three rounds) is scheduled for Friday at 6:15 p.m. ET on FS1.

Passion Pit Uses Facebook Live to Show TMS for Bipolar Disorder … – The Mighty

Posted: April 5, 2017 at 4:54 pm

On Tuesday, Passion PitsMichael Angelakos went live on Facebook to share his experience getting a lesser-known noninvasive mental health procedure, transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS),as a way of treating bipolar disorder.

The whole point is like, everyone says, Oh, I dont want to show people what I do, I dont want to talk about therapy. If we dont talk about it, its quite literally why no one understands what were talking about, Angelakos said in his video. So, I dont have anything to hide. I think this is an amazing treatment.

TMS is currently considered an off-label treatment for bipolar disorder. The procedure, which uses magnetic fields to simulate nerve cells, is approved for treating major depressive disorder and treatment-resistant depression. Because TMS is not yet approved for bipolar disorder, and therefore not covered by insurance, it can be expensive,Angelakos, who said he used toget electroconvulsive therapy, explained.

The video, titledThis is what getting help looks like, is almost an hour long, and features Angelakos and his doctor, Bobby, answering questions and providing information about TMS. All of this takes place while Angelakos undergoes treatment.

Im manic right now, Ive not slept in three days, Angelakos shared. Im tired, but not at all. I talk a lot. Ideas are kind of just going, going, going, going, and I need to calm down. Sometimes I take lithium, I would prefer to do this. This helps calm me down.

This is not the first time Angelakos has opened up about living with bipolar disorder. In 2012, he told Pitchfork he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder when he was 18.

Angelakos also used the video to talk about mental health stigma and answer questions from fans about his experience living withbipolar disorder. Since posting the video, many have thanked the artist for sharing his story and shedding light on a less common treatment option.

Thanks for being open about this. Its super helpful to have famous musicians show that mental disorders are common and manageable and bring that message to the rest of the population, one commenter wrote.

Its so amazing to hear someone else verbalize and express what I feel on a daily basis. It really means a lot, because it feels like Im not going through this alone, another shared.

Update:It appears the live video has been taken down, and Angelakos posted the followingupdate.

You can watchAngelakos full video below.

ERP + TMS: The Best of Both Worlds – Logistics Viewpoints (blog)

Posted: March 31, 2017 at 7:18 am

Does your business need a Transportation Management System (TMS) or an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system? For supply chain managers, the answer to this question is increasingly becoming all of the above.

Over the last 30 years, Enterprise Resourcing Planning (ERP) systems have evolved into large-scale systems that form the foundation for most modern businesses. The ERP is a nearly ubiquitous system used by thousands of organizations to manage business information, providing a high-level view of company activity and performance.

However, mainstream ERP systems have noticeable and well-documented gaps in transportation management functionality and have often failed to deliver the magnitude of value demonstrated with a dedicated TMS system.

A study by Ohio State Universitys Jim Hendrickson reported 86 percent of the respondents believe their ERP needs to be supplemented with other supply chain execution automation. In fact, the report mentions that an external TMS solution is most often cited as the system needed to augment the ERP software.

A dedicated TMS helps in enhancing transportation efficiency, providing real-time dashboards, enabling better decision-making, and handling numerous tasks that cannot be addressed by ERP systems.

Working together, an ERP-TMS combination can help form the best possible technology infrastructure to enable you to leverage data from both systems, gain greater visibility, and to ultimately drive better, faster decisions and keep up with the speed that modern commerce demands.

A TMS integrated with an ERP has the best of both options without their downsides. Even though reducing freight costs is a standard value proposition for TMS, there are many other forms of direct and indirect ROI that such solutions present, including higher customer satisfaction, improved supply chain visibility, and enhanced operational efficiencies. When you carefully consider all of the people involved in managing the daily workflow and how it will improve their effectiveness, the time and money spent on a robust transportation management platform will pay off on several fronts.

Business needs change and the rigid transportation processes in the ERP inhibit growth of the organization. On the other hand, the dynamic TMS solutions of today allow rapid change of the transportation model enabling the business to adapt and grow. A dedicated TMS stands as the only one-stop shop for real-time visibility of shipments across trading partners, and across the breadth of the supply chain, putting you in control of your business.

TMS health fair shows students how to have fun while being healthy – Titusville Herald

Posted: at 11:29 am

What do jiujitsu, composting, and Zumba all have in common?

They were stations featured at this years Titusville Middle School Health Fair.

It was a day-long event, starting at 8 a.m. and concluding at 3 p.m.

The daylong time slot made it possible for sixth, seventh, and eighth graders to attend the fair and participate in its various activities and informational sessions.

Health care and wellness professionals throughout the region spoke to the middle school students on a wide range of topics ranging from the dangers of smoking to blindness awareness.

The fair, which was organized this year by middle school physical education teachers Rochelle Cressman and Tim Miller, is held once every three years so that students at some point in their middle school careers have the opportunity to attend.

Presenters included those from Titusville Hospital Oil Valley Physical Therapy, Venango County Association for the Blind, Crawford County Drug and Alcohol Executive Commission, Womens Services, Smoking Cessation, Gateway Health, Oil Creek State Park, Nutrition Group, and Relson Gracie Jiu Jitsu Titusville Academy.

Students cycled through the stations, participating in each station for 10 minutes at a time.

At one station, students had the chance to learn a little about the Japanese unarmed combat style of jiujitsu, and some students could volunteer to learn first hand how to perform a headlock.

At one point in the rotations, middle school students had a healthy snack of apples to tide them over until the next station.

After eating the apples, students learned about composting and then had their apple cores collected to later be composted to use at the middle schools community garden.

Sample can be reached by email, at ssample@titusvilleherald.com.
