FourKites integrates real-time tracking software with BluJay TMS – DC Velocity

Combination delivers improved freight visibility and faster inventory turns, partners say.

By DC Velocity Staff

Logistics software provider FourKites Inc. will integrate its real-time tracking and shipping visibility tool with transportation management system (TMS) software from BluJay Solutions under the terms of a partnership announced Tuesday. Supply chain execution software vendor BluJay is the firm founded from the combination of Kewill Inc. and LeanLogistics Inc. after the former rivals merged in 2016. BluJay has now launched a supply chain automation platform called the Global Trade Network that creates a single point of access to the services of carriers, shippers, forwarders, suppliers, and logistics service providers (LSPs), the company says.

Bringing together BluJay's TMS with FourKites' real-time freight visibility and orchestration platform can deliver reduced wait times, fewer stock-outs, and faster inventory turns, the companies say.

"Our clients are always looking for cost-effective visibility of their freight in transit," BluJay Solutions' Chief Commercial Officer Dan Vertachnik said in a release. "With the help of FourKites, we're able to rapidly deliver a comprehensive solution. FourKites' ability to track shipments across multiple modes, including truckload, LTL, parcel, rail, and intermodal, enhances the value to our customers with greater visibility and exception management for all loads and shipments."

FourKites has been growing quickly in recent weeks, announcing in April that it had extended its integration with JDA Software Group Inc.'s TMS solution in a partnership with SMC3 Inc. to support greater supply chain visibility and orchestration.

FourKites, with headquarters in Manchester, U.K., and a U.S. office in Chelmsford, Mass., is a member of the contentious and fast-growing sector of supply chain software vendors offering real-time freight tracking capabilities, alongside firms like 10-4 Systems Inc. and MacroPoint LLC.

TMS: A radical treatment for depression – Irish Examiner

Posted: at 3:44 am

Have you heard of TMS? It stands for transcranial magnetic stimulation and, according to reports, could offer hope to people with clinical depression when other treatments havent helped.

It was invented in Sheffield the 1980s and has been used to treat a number of mental and physical health conditions, including OCD, anorexia, tinnitus and fibromyalgia but studies suggest up to 70% of people with clinical depression could benefit from it.

Treatments usually centre around talking therapies, such as cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and antidepressant medicines.

For severe depression that hasnt improved with other treatments, electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), where an electric current is applied to the brain under general anaesthetic, is sometimes used.

TMS is a much more acceptable intermediary treatment between medication and ECT, says consultant psychiatrist Dr Leigh Neal, medical director of the Smart TMS clinic in London.

It involves a sea change of how well treat people in the future and the outcomes for depression.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

TMS simply involves a magnetic head, which converts electricity into a magnetic field, being placed against the scalp.

The magnetic field sets up electrical circuits in the brain, affecting only a tiny area.

The region of the brain targeted depends on the condition being treated for depression, its the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC), where theres reduced activity in people with the condition.

Scans find that the beneficial effects of TMS propagate through to the deeper areas, so all the depression circuit is beneficially affected, says Dr Neal, who explains the electrical stimulation causes changes within the brain related to chemicals and neuroplasticity (the ability of neurons to connect to each other).

It causes more connectivity between nerves in the brain, an increase in the amount of neural activity, and an increase in the amount of neurotransmitters like serotonin.

One treatment lasts about 40 minutes, and is given daily for between 10 and 30 sessions.

WHO CAN HAVE TMS?

TMS is not considered a treatment for temporary low mood, however; rather clinical depression diagnosed by a GP or psychiatrist, and mainly for people whove had at least two courses of antidepressants

SO HOW EFFECTIVE IS IT?

Any effect of TMS on depression is gradual, and there are some people for whom it doesnt work at all.

However, trials show a recovery or remission rate after TMS of 30-40%, and another 30% get a substantial reduction in symptoms.

A review of 40 randomised controlled trials, including 1,592 patients with depression treated by repetitive TMS or sham stimulation, showed a significant effect in favour of TMS.

Patient responses were positive, describing significant benefits to their quality of life.

Dr Neal notes that people become more positive and sociable after a course of TMS: Youre not just seeing a reduction in mood, youre seeing people brighten up and become more energised a qualitative difference you dont see with antidepressants.

Is EDAP TMS S.A. (NASDAQ:EDAP) ready to Pivot? Share Update – Morgan Research

Most investors are likely looking for that next stock that is ready to take off running. Maybe the focus is on finding a stock that has recently taken a turn for the worse for no real apparent reason. As we all know, as quickly as a stock can drop in price, it can bounce back just as fast. Although the popular stocks that receive a high level of media coverage tend to recover quicker after a sell-off, there may be plenty of under the radar stocks that are ripe for buying. Scoping out these potential market gems may help repair a portfolio that has taken a hit for any number of reasons.

Individuals may be deciding on whether to buy 10 shares of a stock trading at $100 as opposed to purchasing 100 shares of a stock trading at $10. We have recently been focusing on stocks that are trading under the $10 price level. We are constantly monitoring technical and fundamental factors that may lead to breakouts for these relatively cheap (in terms of price) stocks.

TMS (Magnets) Can Help Depression – Beliefnet

Posted: at 3:27 pm

Most people with depression feel better with treatment. But about 30 percent cant seem to shake off their depression. This is especially true if you respond poorly ordont respond at all toantidepressants.

For those with treatment-resistant depression, a noninvasive treatment calledtranscranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) offers hope.

This relatively new option can bring relief whenother treatmentsfor depression fail, says psychiatristMurat Altinay, MD.

TMS uses a magnetic field similar to that used in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to stimulate the brains dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, which plays a key role in mood.

Increasing the activity ofneurons in this area lessens depression, Dr. Altinay explains.Havingyour brainstimulated by a magnetic field may sound a bit scary, but the experience isnt painful.

The typical TMS session lasts about 30 to 40 minutes, he says. During the session, patients are fully awake and sitting in a comfortable chair.

Heres what happens:

Throughout treatment, you are fully aware of whats going on. You can speak, read or even nap. After treatment, you can resume your daily activities immediately without restrictions, he says.

One drawback of TMS is that its time-consuming, at least in the beginning. During the first phase, youll likely receive treatment every weekday for six weeks (about 30 times).

During the second (maintenance) phase, the doctor tailors the frequency to meet your needs. You may get treatments every other week, monthly, or every two months. The frequency gradually decreases.

Research shows that regular maintenance with TMS helps prevent recurrence and reduces the symptoms if depression should come back.

TMS has relatively few side effects. The most frequent side effect is headache, but not everybody experiences that, Dr. Altinay says. If you do get headaches, taking Advil or Tylenol before treatments can help.

More serious is the increased risk of seizures reported in the literature.Having a seizure disorder would prevent a patient from being the best candidate for TMS. However, Ive been doing TMS for 10 years, and none of mypatients have experienced seizures, he notes. Some literature suggests that if a seizure disorder is well-controlled with anti-epileptic drugs, TMS might still be an option.

Dr. Altinay says TMS mainly targets those who dont respond adequately to antidepressants or who are completely medication-resistant. TMS alsocan be offered if antidepressants cause severe reactions or side effects, or worsen other health issues. However, TMS is not recommended for anyone with a:

You may have heard of another treatment for medication-resistant depression:electroconvulsive therapy(ECT), inaccurately called shock therapy.

While TMS and ECT share similarities, TMS offers several advantages:

Only a limited number of healthcare providers offer TMS, so it may take some research to find one near you. And not all health insurance companies will pay for TMS, says Dr. Altinay.

However, this option offers hope for those whove struggled to find relief from depression through traditional avenues, he says.
