‘Pokmon Go’ Charged TM vs. Fast TM: What you need to know about the items added in the raid update – Mic
Posted: June 28, 2017 at 6:25 am
The new Pokmon Go gym update has shaken up the meta in pretty incredible ways, but the biggest change is raids massive collaborative battles where trainers work together to bring down powerful Pokmon. Raids give players the opportunity to catch strong Pokmon and acquire powerful items like the Golden Razz Berry and for the first time in Pokmon Go history TMs. If that's news to you, here's what it means.
Truly competitive players in Pokmon Go focus on two things when choosing their gym attackers and defenders: their IVs or Individual Values and their moveset. IVs require a lot of testing, but the Silph Road has a streamlined way to test them, and IVs don't change as you evolve your Pokmon. Good IVs stay that way.
The same isn't true of movesets, which change as you evolve. So there's a chance when you finally evolve that perfect-IV Dragonair into a Dragonite, you'll end up with a less-than-stellar moveset, making it harder to use in gym battling.
That's where TMs come in. TMs, short for technical machines, will, for the first time, allow you to change the moves your Pokmon know, according to Pokmon Go Hub. You'll obtain TMs from raids, and they'll come in two flavors, fast and charged. Fast TMs are available to any trainer level 15 or above, and charged TMs are available to any trainer level 25 or above.
TM comparison
As the names suggest, they'll either change the fast or charged move that your Pokmon currently knows when you use them. According to Pokmon Go Hub, you can use an unlimited number of TMs on your Pokmon until you get the moveset that you want. Hopefully this is the first step towards rebalancing battles so that more movesets are considered good. However we're content to settle for the guarantee that our Golden Magikarp won't be stuck with crunch forever once we evolve it.
Raids are here! See why they may be the key to legendary Pokmon. Find out how to determine how long it will take you to reach level 40, and see what we think of the Gen 2 Pokmon added to the game. Here are the kinds of Pokmon you get from 10-kilometer eggs, and here's where you can check out what you missed during the Water Festival and Solstice events. Find out more about the upcoming Chicago event and why you'll probably be able to catch Unown while you're there if you're not busy searching for rare evolutionary items, that is.

Is a ‘brain massage’ the secret to treating depression? – Telegraph.co.uk
Posted: June 26, 2017 at 5:26 pm
Cana 'brain massage' battle the potentially life-threatening effects of depression?
That's the hope behind a relatively new treatment, called Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS for short), which is showing impressive results in the treatment of depression among test cases in the UK.
TMS sends magnetic pulses of low-level electric currentthrough specific parts of the brain, stimulating or suppressingthe cells and potentially so the theory goes changing their behaviour. It's been around for a while, but has only recently been fine-tuned;theNational Institute for Clinical Excellence backed TMS in 2015, recognising it as a safeand effective treatment for a range of disorders including neuropathic pain, de-personalisation syndrome, depression and addiction.
For Freddie Webster, 27,it's not an exaggeration to say TMS may have saved his life.
Ive battled depression for the past 10 years, combating it with drugs in the darkest moments when my thoughts turned to suicide, says the website designer from Surrey.
When I was first diagnosed with a depressive disorder the symptoms would begin with me feeling down about everything, having a bleak outlook, lacking energy but having heightened anxiety. Then I would descend into bouts of clinical depression. Id lose focus, I couldnt concentrate, my memory would suffer, it ruined relationships and jobs. Id have suicidal thoughts.

Pokemon GO: How to Get and Use TMs – Game Rant
Posted: at 5:26 pm
Pokemon GO is slowly becoming the constantly evolving Alternate Reality Game title that it was promised to be when it was first introduced to the world over a year ago. Over the course of its first year,Pokemon GO has changed dramatically, removing features that werent functioning while adding content that is meant to both keep players engaged and bolster the apps functionality. Even amongst all the changes that have occurred within the game lately, though,Pokemon GOs latest patch is a different animal altogether, offering what is arguably the single-most impactful collection of updates in the history of the game.
Part of the reason the last update is so huge forPokemon GO is because it finally introduces a core mechanic from otherPokemon games Technical Machines, better known to veteran players as TMs. In the classicPokemon games, TMs teach Pokemon a specific move, giving trainers more control over their creatures and making specific kinds ofPokemon battles much easier with a little planning. InPokemon GO, TMs function a little differently, but theyre still a vital and useful tool worth embracing for those looking to hone the perfect gym sweeper lineup.
TMs are a reward from the newly-addedPokemon GO raid battles, so players who end up competing in the larger-scale fights in gyms will have the potential to acquire these items. There are two types of TMs Fast TMs, which teach moves that a player uses by tapping the screen in battle, and Charged TMs, which teach moves that a player uses by charging the meter in a battle and holding their finger on the phone screen.
Fast TMs drop fromPokemon GO gym raids for players level 15 and over. Ultimately, the official requirements for gym raids make it so that any participant will already be higher than level 15, so simply participating in a gym raid will give players the chance to acquire a Fast TM.
Charged TMs, on the other hand, only drop from gym raids that are level 25 or higher. This isthe minimum level for gym raids, meaning newer or less experienced players will still have to grind up to level 25 in order to have access to Charged TM drops as well as Fast TMs no matter what. Its possible the level requirements for these items dropping is related to the fact that Niantic is already testing level 5 raid battles presumably, if those get implemented later, TMs will not be available as rewards at such low levels.
TMs simply exist in the item bag and can be used on Pokemon whenever a trainer wishes. This does come with a caveat, though, and is the major difference between TMs in traditionalPokemon games and those that are found inPokemon GO the move they teach is assigned at random. Using a Fast TM will, of course, teach a Fast move no matter what, but trainers cannot choose which one they will receive.
That being said, there are a few rules that help narrow things down. A Pokemon will not learn a move from a TM that it couldnt already have, which typically limits the random move pool to about 4 moves for each move type. Furthermore, a Pokemon will never learn the same move it already had in its slot from a TM, so players wont have to worry about wasting a TM and getting nothing out of it.
Ultimately, the introduction of TMs allows trainers to have more control over the development of their Pokemon than ever before. This is particularly useful for those who have a high CP Pokemon that has an undesirable move for battle simply using TMs until the right move is learned will likely take less time than constantly grinding for a high-level variant of the creature in question with the desired move.
Pokemon GO is available now on Android and iOS mobile devices.

‘Pokemon Go’ Technical Machine: How to Use a TM to Learn a New Move – Heavy.com
Posted: June 25, 2017 at 2:19 pm
(Niantic)
One of the new features that Niantic has now added toPokemon Goare technical machines. TMs come in two types: Fast Training Machine and Charged Training Machine. Each item can be used to teach a new move to one of your Pokemon.Pokemon trainers are really excited about these new items, since theyve been waiting a long time for the ability to teach their Pokemon new moves.
According to Pokemon Go Hub, youll need to be at least level 15 to use a Fast TM, and at least level 25 to use a Charged TM. The Fast TM will teach your Pokemon a random fast move, and the Charged TM will teach your Pokemon a random charged move. Both TMs are among the new items that will drop after you win a raid battle. Raid battles are still in beta and you must be at least level 35 to participate in one. But starting at some point in July, raid battles will be available to everyone, and so will TMs.
Teaching your Pokemon a new move with a TM is pretty easy. First, just go to your bag, find the TM, and select it. At this time, your Pokemon screen will appear and you can scroll through and select the Pokemon that you want to use the TM on. You can only get moves that are currently available when youre using a TM. The Go Hub DB provides a nice list of TM-eligible moves here.
As far as which Pokemon you can use a TM on: the skys the limit. You can use as many TMs as you want on the same Pokemon, and you can use TMs on any level or gender. All Pokemon are eligible for TMs. But remember: youll always get anewmove when you use a TM on a Pokemon. There will be no chance of getting the same move you already have. And legacy moves are not among the current possible outcomes.
See photos and videos of what raid battles in Pokemon Go look like. The beta raids are available to level 35 players and up.

Over and out: Henry Blofeld to retire from BBC radio cricket commentary – The Guardian
Posted: June 23, 2017 at 6:26 am
Henry Blofeld, right, said he leaves the Test Match Special programme in the safest of hands led by Jonathan Agnew. Photograph: Visionhaus/Corbis via Getty Images
Henry Blofeld will retire from his role as commentator on the BBCs Test Match Special programme in September. The 77-year-old, affectionately known as Blowers, has worked on TMS since 1972, and his final match will be the Test between England and the West Indies at Lords which starts on 7 September.
All good things come to an end, he said in a statement. After nearly 50 years in the Test Match Special commentary box, I have decided the time has come for the last of the old farts to hang up his microphone.
In all honesty, at the age of almost 78, although I am still rather keener than mustard, I find it harder work than I once did. And I wouldnt want to let TMS down.
You havent heard my final my dear old thing quite yet. Happily, I shall be commentating next month on the first two Tests against South Africa, and then for the last one of the summer against the West Indies at Lords.
I leave, supremely confident that TMS is in the safest of hands, led by the ageless Aggers [Jonathan Agnew]. In the end, I think he will come to be seen as the best of the lot. Listeners will now be relieved to know that their chances of being told the right name of the fielders at third man and fine leg have greatly increased.
I hope some will be sad that they will now hear less about the lifestyles of pigeons, seagulls, and helicopters, although I fear the general feeling will be one of huge relief.
I shall be able to come to the cricket without worrying about who is lurking down at third man. I shall also be able to have a drink without feeling I am being politically incorrect. And hallelujah to that!
Blofeld, who was awarded an OBE in 2003 for services to broadcasting, stated his favourite memory behind the microphone was the 1981 Ashes Test at Headingley when Ian Bothams unbeaten 149 and Bob Willis eight for 43 secured England a thrilling 18-run victory.
Many of Blofelds peers paid tribute to him on Twitter. Former England captain and TMS regular Michael Vaughan said: Many players have bought joy to thousands but I cant think of anyone who has bought more joy to the airwaves than @blowersh #MyDearOldThing.
TMS producer Adam Mountford added Blofeld has an incredible thirst for cricket and fellow commentator Alison Mitchell claimed he is unparalleled at painting pictures with words.
A tweet from the England cricket teams official account read: Thanks for the memories @blowersh and all the best in your retirement.
Jonathan Agnew has shared a commentary box with Blofeld for many years, and he told BBC Radio 5 live: Ill miss Henry. His enthusiasm, his company, his chaos. Henry is one of those characters that really set up Test Match Special.
Its the legacy of people like him who in the 70s and 80s really developed this style of programme that people have been trying to copy ever since, including me. They were enormous characters who were also outstanding broadcasters.

TMS students join in Junior Solar Sprint, KidWind Competition – Tallmadge Express
Posted: at 5:22 am
Published: June 21, 2017 10:27 AM
On May 18, Tallmadge Middle School students participated in the Junior Solar Sprint and KidWind Competitions at Kent State Universitys Aeronautics and Engineering building.
Tallmadge Middle Schools Gateway to Technology eighth-grade students who participated included: Aaron Andrea, Josh Vernotzy, Jacob Becks, Tommy Naiman, Dylan Case, Hunter Eslinger, William Hudak, Ethan Hudak, Jackson Queen, Brandon Blatt, Gunther Zehner, Evan Mauck, Halle Kalaman, Emma Sandy, Emma Ryder and Mallory Cox-Shreffler.
The students enjoyed learning about alternative energies, designing, building and competing against other students with their alternative energy cars and wind turbines, said Justin Christopher, Tallmadge Middle Schools technology education teacher, robotics advisor and soapbox derby advisor. This was a great opportunity to showcase what the students have learned in their Gateway to Technology class.
The Junior Solar Sprint competition tasked students to create a lightweight car chassis to hold a solar panel that supplies the electrical energy to propel the car. Students had to use the given supplies to increase the cars torque and speed. Their design had to fit the given parameters and attach to a tethered fishing line along the 20-meter race track.
The KidWind competition tasked students to design a wind turbine that would produce the greatest amount of electrical output measured in volts. Students were required to design and construct a wind turbine that fit the parameters of the wind chamber using a specified generator.
This was a great competition for our students to experience, said Superintendent Jeff Ferguson. It provided the perfect opportunity for students to be creative and apply what theyve learned to create their own design and compete against their peers. I would like to thank Kent State University for allowing our students to be a part of this learning experience.
Students were invited to participate through Tallmadge Middle Schools Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Advisory Boards partnership with Kent State University.
Students winners received alternative energy products, including solar phone chargers, solar flashlights and other prizes.
