New Yorkers have always been known for their resiliency and determination. If they want it, they figure out how to get it. New York has been making progress with its expected launch of online sports betting, but the process is taking longer than anticipated. The practice of using the George Washington Bridge as a makeshift sports betting lounge isnt an entirely new concept the New York Times explains that it has been happening since 2018. That was when NJ became the first state to introduce legalized sports betting following the repeal of PASPA, but, since then, more New Yorkers are taking advantage of the alternate solution. The number of biking bettors from the Big Apple increased last year during the COVID-19 pandemic and still isnt slowing down. Exact figures of how many make the trek each week, however, arent known.

That ultimately means that New Jersey is able to pick up a considerable amount of revenue from sports betting as New York continues to only make baby steps toward a full online gambling launch. For three years, New Jersey has welcomed these bettors and their money, without having to offer any type of additional infrastructure. All thats missing is a George Washington Bridge bar with recliners and massive TV screens to make the sportsbook experience more complete.

Freddy Peralta was as good as any pitcher in the game before the MLB All-Star break. But then shoulder inflammation landed him on the IL from mid-August to the start of September. By the end of September, he looked like a completely different pitcher.

Hes had time to recover since his last start on Sept. 26, but shoulders can be tricky. So as much as he shut down the Braves when he saw him earlier in the season, Im still favoring Atlantas offense on Monday.The Braves were one of the 10 best teams against righties all season when you look at OPS, ISO and wOBA (also 11th in wRC+), and they finished the season strong against righties.

Also, Milwaukees offense isnt exactly clicking on all cylinders. Not that the lineup was ever the Brewers calling card this season. Ian Anderson handled Milwaukee well enough when he saw them earlier in 2021, and he developed some momentum heading into the postseason. Certainly enough to navigate a lineup that has a 28.3% hard-hit rate against righties since September. (Just to note, the Braves have a 34.8% hard-hit rate against right-handed pitchers since the start of September.)

After nearly coughing up the game in the eighth and getting a lucky bounce off of Hunter Renfroes hip in extras, the Red Sox are in the drivers seat against the team who took advantage of Bostons mid-season spiral to take the AL East title. Despite their collapse after an outstanding first half, the Red Sox have proven resilient. But the Rays arent pushovers, either. That said, theyre not putting themselves in the best position to force a Game 5.

I cannot believe Tampa isnt going with Shane McClanahan on Monday. For those who for some reason dont know, Monday is a must-win for the Rays. Unless the rookie left-hander is hurt, this is yet another major miscalculation by the Rays computers and Kevin Cash. The Red Sox are also in a weird spot from a pitching standpoint, and I dont love backing Eduardo Rodriguez, but theres only one Rays starter who can give Boston serious trouble. That guy is not slated to start on Monday. And while bullpen days can be tricky, Bostons lineup has proven it can get past Tampas relievers.

More than a few of the Dodgers have solid numbers against the ex-L.A. left-hander. Even Albert Pujols, who will man first base in Mondays Game 3, has taken Wood deep before.

The Giants lefty hasnt given up a home run over his last three starts which only spanned 13 innings but the Dodgers took him deep five times in three meetings, getting the best of him at least once in each game. Pitchers may be able to elevate their game come the postseason, but Wood has to contain a Dodgers lineup that led all of baseball with 20.63 at-bats per home run against left-handed pitching, as well as 79 total home runs against lefties in 2021. A few teams have hit lefties better than the Dodgers since the start of September, but their ISO, wOBA, OPS and wRC+ against lefties during that span are still among the best.

Louisianas first legal retail sportsbook took its inaugural bet Wednesday ahead of what could be a dozen more openings in the state over the coming weeks.

Paragon Casino Resort in Marksville accepted the states first legal wager at its Betfred sportsbook. Operated by the Tunica-Biloxi Tribe of Louisiana, the Paragon sportsbook was not subject to the same regulations as the states commercial operators, which are still undergoing licensing review.

The states Chitimacha and Coushatta tribes are also positioned to open retail sportsbooks on their respective tribal lands, though neither has publicly announced an opening.

Louisiana voters in 55 of the states 64 parishes approved retail and mobile sports betting as part of a 2020 ballot measure. This referendum, as well as follow-up legislation passed earlier this year, allowed mobile and retail betting in each of the approved parishes but required each commercial operator to pass regulatory approval.

Under federal law, federally recognized gaming tribes are not subject to the same regulations as long as gaming is conducted on tribal lands. The states three gaming tribes, as part of existing agreements with the state government, could open retail sportsbooks at their respective properties without further state regulatory approval.

The tribes can allow betting through mobile devices on tribal lands but, unlike the commercial operators, are not permitted statewide online wagering.

The commercial operators are still undertaking that regulatory review process, which has been further delayed by Hurricane Ida. Officials have given no firm timeline for the first retail or online sportsbook launch, but regulators at a meeting last month said they expected the first brick-and-mortar books to be approved in the coming weeks.

Online betting may not come until later in 2021 or early 2022.

Louisianas 2021 sports betting law permits the states 15 riverboat casinos, four horse tracks and lone land-based casino to open retail sportsbooks in their respective facilities. Each gaming venue can also offer up to two mobile sports betting skins accessible in each parish that approved the 2020 ballot measure.

Louisiana is the first state to approve mobile sports betting on a county-by-county (or parish-by-parish) basis. Bettors can wager from any approved parish, which includes those around Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Shreveport and most other population centers.

Most major U.S. operators have expressed interest in the state or have already struck market access deals. Caesars, which operates the land-based casino in New Orleans, has struck groundbreaking sponsorship deals with the Louisiana Superdome as well as the LSU athletic program and is expected to continue marketing aggressively in the state.

FanDuel, DraftKings and BetMGM, the nations three largest sportsbook operators by market share, are also expected to pursue sports betting licenses. Several other high-profile gaming companies with existing brick-and-mortar gaming properties in the state including Penn National (Barstool Sportsbook), Churchill Downs (TwinSpires) and Boyd Gaming (Boyd Sportsbook) are also expected to pursue licensure.

Additional growing operators such as WynnBet, PointsBet and Bally Bet have announced nationwide expansion plans and would seem likely candidates for Louisiana sports betting licenses.

The Louisiana Lottery can also partner with one mobile sportsbook operator. The Lottery, in conjunction with its future sportsbook partner, can open retail betting kiosks at certain bars and restaurants.

Youve probably heard about the success of Wong teaser pieces this NFL season. Certain teasers (through key numbers of 3 and 7) hit at a greater rate than what it costs to buy the points youre getting, and theyve been red-hot to start the year (Seahawks +8.5 against the Rams not withstanding).

But dont go rushing to bet these teasers without understanding if youre getting a fair price.

Thats because the price your sportsbook offers on two-team, 6-point teasers will impact whether or not the teaser is still mathematically advantageous. Ideally you want -110 on a two-team, 6-point teaser, but thats not available in the United States from the 20 books weve looked at. And -130 on these teasers evaporates the edge immediately.

So which U.S. sportsbooks are giving the best prices on teasers? Lets dive in.

Tests run at 20 sportsbooks in New Jersey. If youve seen different prices or been limited on certain teaser types, please let us know.

You can read Stuckeys full teaser guide for more info, but heres how the basic math looks.

NFL underdogs between +1.5 and +2.5 teased six points have covered 75.3% of the time. Favorites between -7.5 and -8.5 have covered about 76% of the time. They cover at a high rate because many NFL games end in these margins, given how points are scored in football.

To break even on a two-team, 6-point teaser at -110, you only need to win 72.4% of the time. Thats an advantage, historically speaking, based on the cover rate I just detailed.

But to break even on a 6-point, two-team teaser at -130, you need to win 75.2% of the time. Based on those same cover rates, your entire advantage is gone at -130.

Road underdogs have been the best teaser pieces over the last decade.

There are three primary ways a sportsbook offers NFL teasers:

*Books that use dynamic pricing or alternate spread parlays, so listed price is based on teasing two teams from +2 to +8.

PlayUp, which is only available in Colorado and New Jersey, has fixed teaser pricing at -115. Its the best in the market we can find.

Unibet, Barstool, BetRivers, etc., who all use odds provider Kambi, came in second at around -117 on two teaser pieces going from +2 to +8. Their Wong teasers are priced anywhere from -117 to -123, depending on the exact numbers youre teasing through.

These books have dynamic pricing, so you can actually get better prices on bad teasers, making them less bad.

Taking the Titans from -4.5 to +1.5 and the Dolphins from +10 to +16 (not something we recommend) pays out +116.

FanDuel should be avoided because of its fixed price at -134. DraftKings is available in all the same states, and has a fixed price of -120.

BetMGM and PointsBet should also be avoided in most cases, because youre parlaying alternate spreads. And if you want to take a team from +1.5 to +7.5, those alternate spreads are going to be costly.
