Construction starts on sportsbook area at JACK Casino ahead of legalized sports betting – WJW FOX 8 News Cleveland
Posted: October 8, 2022 at 3:10 pm
CLEVELAND (WJW) Big changes are in the works at the JACK Casino in Cleveland and the Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas.
JACK is progressing through construction of its new sportsbook area at both the Downtown Cleveland and Thistledown Racino ahead of the legalization sports betting in Ohio.
Adam Suliman, Vice President of Sports and Digital for JACK Entertainment, is looking forward to what he considers a boost for the casino and gaming industry.
Certainly, all of our friends and neighbors have been asking us for a long time when they can place bets on their favorite team like the Browns or the Guardians here, Suliman said. Our customers are excited about it. Were excited about it. Were just a few short months away from taking out first bets.
The new sportsbook area of the downtown location will feature four betting windows and 20 self-serve kiosks with theatre style recliners, a 30-foot main video wall and fourteen massive TVs to view contests as they occur.
JACKs Vice President of Design and Construction Gino Del Pup said its a race against the clock to complete the project ahead of their deadline.
We been working on this for quite a while, Del Pup said. The design was almost a year in the making. We started the construction in June and were going to wrap up right before the Ohio State-Michigan game.
Correspondingly, the court is announcing a first-of-its-kind program to address problem gambling addiction that will help people whose criminal charges stem from gambling.
The goal is to break the cycle of addiction and minimize the chance that they will return to the criminal justice system, Administrative and Presiding Judge Brendan J. Sheehan said.
The court will use a special assessment tool to identify people with gambling addiction problems at the front end of the criminal justice system.
If a person successfully completes this program, youre in this program and successfully complete this program, their felony charges may be dismissed to avoid felony convictions on their record, Sheehan said.
The court is collaborating with recovery resources and Ohio For Responsible Gambling to develop the program.
To have this comprehensive program here is the largest in the country, the first of its kind and is laying a blueprint out for other jurisdictions and courts to follow, former Director of Responsible Gambling Karen Russo said.
Back at the JACK Casino, leadership said it always encourages its guest to practice responsible gaming and gambling habits. JACK has even developed a new risk-free app to help people get used to the new amenity.
The Bet Jack Training App is available on Google Play and the iOS app store, Suliman said. So you can download it today and get some free tokens and place a bet on the Browns game this weekend.
JACK Casino is hiring at both locations to fill positions in the new sportsbook areas. Apply here.

MaximBet Launches Indiana Sports Betting, Further Expansion Planned – Covers
Posted: at 3:10 pm
MaximBet officially launched in Indiana last week, becoming the 14th different operator in the Hoosier State with more expansion coming.
Last Updated: Oct 3, 2022 9:02 AM ET Read Time: 4 min
MaximBet is now offering legal sports betting in two U.S. markets, following an announcement last week that it has gone live in the Indiana sports betting market.
The Hoosier State launch comes around a year after MaximBet first went live in Colorado. The sportsbook and casino, which partnered with Maxim magazine, made a splash in April when they announced a sponsorship deal with Colorado Rockies Outfielder Charlie Blackmon to serve as a brand ambassador the first active baseball player to do so. Also, earlier this summer, rapper Nicki Minaj came on as an investor and joined Blackmon as an ambassador.
The MaximBet expansion isnt stopping in Indiana, either.
The announcement also indicated plans to launch in Iowa, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Ontario. The timing is not surprising, as October features the NFL, college football, MLB postseason, plus the start of the NBA and NHL seasons after operators already saw a jump in monthly handle in September due to the return of football.
"To begin now just as the NFL season is revving up and with NHL, NBA, and college basketball action right around the corner, we couldn't be more excited about our future," said Daniel Graetzer, Founder and CEO of MaximBet.
The Hoosier State now has 14 sportsbooks in operation, which is a challenge for smaller brands like MaximBet to make an impact.
In the month of August, the Top 4 online sportsbooks owned 80% of the market share leaving the other nine operators fighting for the rest.
Even if they crack into the top tier of sportsbooks in the state, there may not be a lot of money to go around: Indianas monthly handle was just $238 million that month.
In comparison, New York hit $194 million in the last full week of August alone.
However, MaximBet seems to be aware of the uphill climb and will be offering deposit matches up to $250 to attract customers, a rare sight as the industry seems to be pivoting towards new customer promotions in the form of "risk-free" or "no sweat" bets.
Kristian Nyln, Kambi CEO and Co-Founder (which is the odds provider for MaximBet), added that MaximBet's "customer-first mentality makes their debut launch in Indiana an exciting opportunity for both parties as well as bettors in the midwestern state."

The Giants are part of the London game this week, taking on a tough foe in the Packers. It will be difficult for them to improve on their 3-1 record, especially with injuries piling up on both sides of the ball. Giants under 16.5 points (-120 DraftKings Sportsbook) for 1 unit
The Giants' offense has left a lot to be desired. The team's passing game has been basically non-existent, which can be attributed to multiple factors.
First and foremost, the Giants are very limited at wide receiver. They are severely shorthanded at the position, and will be without Sterling Shepard (knee), Kadarius Toney (hamstring) and Kenny Golladay (knee) for this game. Second, outside of left tackle Andrew Thomas, the team's offensive line hasn't been great. Finally, they continue to deploy the limited Daniel Jones at quarterback, who has been more productive with his legs than with his throwing arm.
With so much stacked up against them, the Giants have only averaged 19.0 points per game. They lean heavily on Saquon Barkley, so expect the Packers to focus their efforts on slowing him down. Add in the Packers allowing an average of 17.3 points per game this season and it's difficult to envision a scenario in which the Giants produce multiple touchdowns.
AJ Dillon over 12.5 rush attempts (-150 DraftKings Sportsbook) for 1 unit
The Packers have relied heavily on their running game this season with their wide receiver group still a work in progress. The good news for them is that they have one of the most dangerous running back duos in the league in Dillon and Aaron Jones. Not only can they do plenty of damage on the ground, but both are viable pass-catching options.
Dillon actually leads the Packers with 57 carries, compared to 48 for Jones. Dillon has also received at least 13 carries in a game two times, and he hasn't had fewer than 10 in any of the Packers' first four contests. With the Giants struggling to score points, the Packers might be looking to salt the clock away in the second half, if they've built up a big lead. That could lead to added work for Dillon, making the over on 12.5 rush attempts an appealing option.
Longest Field Goal Made: Giants (+115 DraftKings Sportsbook) for 1 unit
Touchdowns have been difficult to come by for the Giants, but their kicker, Graham Gano, has been busy. He's made at least two field goals in each of the last three games, and has hit nine of his 11 attempts on the season. He's been especially productive from deep, making all four of his field goal attempts from at least 50 yards. Last season, he went 7-for-10 on attempts of at least 50 yards.
While Gano has been busy, Mason Crosby hasn't been. He's had two games in which he hasn't made a single field goal, and he's made just four for the season, overall. Of his four field goals, none were 50 yards or more, and only one was from at least 40 yards out. Last season, he made just three field goals of at least 50 yards, and a total of seven from 40-plus yards. Add Gano's big leg to the Giants' inability to score touchdowns and I think he makes the longest field goal in this Giants vs. Packers London game.

California sports betting polls – Prop 26, Prop 27 failing – National Football Post
Posted: October 6, 2022 at 12:23 pm
When Prop 26 and Prop 27 hit the ballot in California next month neither is likely to pass according to the latest polls and reports.
Voters in California will get to vote on the legalization of sports betting in the state on the November ballot by voting for Prop 26 or Prop 27. However, it looks like legislators may need to go back to the drawing board as the chances of either prop passing looks grim right now.
[ More California sports betting legalization news ]
This month an independent poll showed only 34 percent of respondents would vote yes on Prop 27. If Prop 27 were to pass it would bring legal online sports betting to the state. Following the release of that poll the San Francisco Chronicle reported that Yes on 27, an organization pushing for the passing of Prop 27, was pulling its TV advertising in major California markets.
There isnt much public support for Prop 26 either. If that were to pass it would allow legal retail sports betting at the states tribal casinos. Victor Rocha, conference chairman of the Indiana Gaming Association showed the lack of confidence in Prop 26 passing by posting on Twitter that a win for Prop 26 would simply be Prop 27 failing to pass.
Rochas exact tweet stated, A victory in November strengthens that bond. What is a victory? Prop 27 fails at the ballot box. For us, the sports betting consortium represents the new face of colonization. Instead of land, water & minerals, theyre coming for our casinos. Thats why we fight like its our last fight.
If both Prop 26 and Prop 27 were to receive no votes it would mean California legislators would be back to square one in attempts to legalize sports betting in the state. Sports betting operators, California native tribes, and California residents who want to bet on sports will be keeping a close eye on legislators in 2023 if its a no on both props in November.

Colorado Sports Betting: Numbers Increase in August – Covers

The Centennial States handle stayed below $300 million, but it did increase along with the hold and revenue compared to the previous month.
Last Updated: Oct 6, 2022 11:29 AM ET Read Time: 3 min
August gave Colorado sports betting the return of (preseason) football, but Coloradans didn't really seem to care.
Colorado's Department of Revenue announced that operators accepted $290.1 million in wagers for the month of August up 12.3% from Julys $258.4 million mark but still down from June's $313.2 million in tickets.
Colorado'slegal sports bettingdid see a strong 36.9% year-over-year increase from August 2021.
The 8.9% hold for sportsbooks, combined with the increase in bets gave the state a hefty boost in tax revenue the $1.8 million in sports betting revenue tax was a 66.8% increase over the previous month, with the year-over-year even better as August's tax jumped 150%.
Colorado funnels sports betting tax dollars into the states Water Implementation Cash Fund.
While July left Coloradans to bet on the last-place Rockies, as the NFL, NHL, and NBA started prepping for the regular season, August brought in the beginning of the Russell Wilson era for the Denver Broncos.
However, even with the ability to bet on preseason football, baseball remained the top sport. More than 40% of all tickets were on America's pastime, with tennis remaining in the second spot with 10% of wagers.
Football came in third with 7.4%, barely beating out non-NBA basketball, which garnered 7% of Augusts bets.
College football, which only had Week 0 and featured no teams from the Centennial State, came in at 1.5%.
August's 8.9% hold is the highest this year and it was an even less successful venture for in-person bettors.
Brick-and-mortar sportsbooks enjoyed a 25.1% hold, compared to 8.7% foronline sportsbooks. Football fans took the brunt of the losses with sportsbooks paying out just 41% of their pro football handle and 20% of their college football handle.

When will sports betting be legal in Florida?
Florida sports betting briefly became legal in 2021. However, this decision was quickly overturned. While the Seminole Tribe and other lawmakers have appealed many times to overturn this decision it holds fast, with the matter to be weighed in on in 2023.
What sports betting apps are legal in Florida?
Presently, the only sports betting apps legal in Florida are offshore online sportsbooks. Because these sites base themselves outside the US, state and federal gambling laws do not apply to them, placing them in a grey area that essentially makes these sportsbooks legal to use.
Why is sports betting illegal in Florida?
Florida sports betting remains uncertain after it launched in 2021 and then revoked a few months later. Governor Ron DeSantis and the Seminole Tribe of Florida signed a gaming compact allowing the Tribe to offer legal sports betting in Florida. However, the DC Circuit Court ruled this agreement unconstitutional and overturned it, rendering sports betting in FL illegal.
Is retail sports betting in Florida legal?
Unfortunately no. Since the agreement between the Seminole Tribe and Governor DeSantis was overturned, online and retail sports betting are on hold until the topic is re-evaluated again in 2023.
What is the legal gambling age for Florida sports betting?
Although the state has withdrawn legal sports betting, those who wanted to wager on sports while it was legal were required to be 21 years or older.
Comparing the features and offerings of each offshore Florida sports betting site on our list makes it simpler to find the one that most suits your needs. So, we created the table below to help you do just that:
Florida sports betting seemed to be on the ups when Governor DeSantis and the Seminole Tribe of Florida signed a compact in 2021, permitting the Tribe to offer retail and online sports betting. As a result, the Tribe launched its betting app a month later. However, following several lawsuits, a federal judge ruled the Florida-Seminole Gaming Compact violated the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act (IGRA). In turn, the Tribe withdrew its mobile app in early December, having only offered legal sports betting in the state for five weeks.
Following the overturning of the gaming compact, online and retail Florida sports betting remains on hold until 2023.
However, sports bettors in The Sunshine State can legally access offshore online sportsbooks like those highlighted in this guide to place wagers on their favorite sports. Since these sportsbooks base themselves outside the US, they are not subject to federal and state gambling laws, which puts them in a legal grey area. As a result, Florida players can use these sites without legal implications.
Although anyone can browse a Florida sports betting site, those wishing to sign up, claim bonuses, and place wagers must meet a few requirements. For example, players must be of legal gambling age. While many offshore sportsbooks accept players aged 18 years and older, the legal gambling age in Florida is 21.
Most FL sports betting sites are relatively simple to use. However, new players often need help with the registration process. But, by following the quick steps below, players can easily sign up, make a deposit, and start wagering.

Dueling sports betting measures in uphill climb ahead of Election Day, poll finds – Inland Valley Daily Bulletin
Posted: at 12:23 pm
A pair of dueling sports betting ballot measures before California voters this year have set spending records this election cycle.
Television ads a cacophony of messages promising economic stability for state tribes, greater homelessness services and even gambling addiction increases run regularly. Billboards have popped up along heavily trafficked Southern California roads, and glossy papers stack up in mailboxes.
Together, the two sports betting measures have set the record as the costliest ballot campaigns in the state, according to campaign finance data from OpenSecrets. The campaigns on either side of the ballot proposals have spent more than $440 million so far, according to CalMatters.
But despite all the noise and cash, Proposition 26 and Proposition 27 may be bad bets. A recent Berkeley IGS poll, conducted in English and Spanish at the end of September, found most likely voters are either against or undecided about either ballot measure.
More specifically, only 31% of likely voters surveyed said they support Prop 26, the measure that would allow in-person sports betting at tribal casinos and the four privately owned race tracks in California. It would also allow tribal casinos to offer roulette and dice games.
Among those surveyed, 42% said they did not support the ballot measure, and 27% were undecided.
In comparison, only 27% of likely voters said they support Prop 27, the effort to legalize online sports betting in California through large gaming companies (like DraftKings or FanDuel) and tribes already with state compacts.
With that one, 53% of voters said they oppose the measure, and another 20% remain undecided.
These results suggest that the sports wagering initiatives are foundering in the face of the opposition advertising campaigns, said IGS co-director Eric Schickler. The lack of support among key demographic groups makes passage of each an uphill climb, at best.
The Berkeley IGS survey suggested the cornucopia of advertisements has played a role in public perception of the ballot measures. Those surveyed who said they had seen many ads related to the ballot measures opposed them by wide margins, while those who had seen little to no advertisements were more evenly divided, according to the poll.
Proponents of both measures also chalked up negative attitudes to the inundation of ads.
The deceptive ads by the out-of-state gambling corporations have thoroughly confused voters to the point where they are just saying no to it all, Kathy Fairbanks, a spokesperson for the Yes on 26/No on 27 campaign, said. Our polling shows that voters still strongly support Indian tribes and in-person tribal gaming.
Fairbanks said her campaign hasnt released a Yes on 26 ad as of yet, having only focused resources on combating Prop 27.
Prop 27 has taken over $100 million in misleading and false attacks $45 million before we even qualified for the ballot, said Nathan Click, a spokesperson for the Yes on 27 campaign. Its telling these same opponents funding these ads havent spent a dime supporting their own sports betting proposal.
Broken down further, the poll found nearly all subgroups from men to women, Democrats to Republicans, and more were against Prop 27. Only likely voters who were under the age of 30 signaled support for the measure, 44% to 33%.
For Prop 26, Republicans and conservative voters were more strongly against the measure than Democrats and liberals albeit, those latter groups still opposed the measure.
In Orange County, 41% of voters surveyed said they were against Prop 26, and 56% were against Prop 27. Only 31% supported Prop 26, and 28% supported Prop 27.
Prop 26 is evenly divided in the Inland Empire: 36% of voters support the measure, and 36% oppose it. However, 51% of Inland Empire voters oppose Prop 27 while only 27% support it.
We are grateful that voters appear to be rejecting the out-of-state gambling corporations and their $170 million campaign of deception. That said, Prop 27 is still on the ballot and still poses a significant threat to tribal self-reliance and all Californians, Fairbanks said.
Since 2018 when the U.S. Supreme Court struck down a federal ban on sports wagering, leaving it up to states nearly three dozen states and Washington, D.C., have legalized sports gambling in some fashion.
Pointing to those states that have authorized sports wagering, Click said: California should be next.
