I Bought a Reiki-Charged Candle Based on a Tarot Card Readingand You Can Too – HouseBeautiful.com

Astrology, card-reading, auras and energieswhen it comes to such interests, I'm a skeptic, admittedly dismissing much of these subjects as "woo woo" fiction. But, as a journalist, I'm also curious. So, when an email landed in my inbox from a company selling reiki-charged candles and offering to perform a tarot card reading to determine the correct candle (and energy) for me, I admit I was intrigued.

Les Loups de La Lune is a new candle company based in New York's Hudson Valley, and the brainchild of Reiki masters Steven Gray, Chad Wagner, and Manu Del Prete. Each candle is hand-poured in the company's studio and contains a crystal, which the trio has "charged" ahead of time. In keeping with the founders' belief in the importance of energyas well as the company name, which translates to "wolves of the moon" candles are only poured on new moons, full moons, and solar eclipses.

Les Loups de La Lune

After I take the founders up on their offer of a tarot reading, I dial inlooking harried, no doubt, on my 8th Zoom meeting of the dayto see Gray and Wagner (who are partners in business and life) looking calm and collected in front of the exposed brick wall of their loft space, crystals arranged on the coffee table before them and a tiny dog napping on a furry throw between them. "Okay," I admit. "I already want their energy."

Gray and Wagner met through their Reiki master and, shortly thereafter, began making Reiki-charged candles for friends and family. This year, after relocating upstate from Long Island City, they turned that passion into a business with Les Loups.

Reiki, Gray tells me, "can essentially rework all your energy in your physical body, your spiritual body, and your energetic body." (And here I thought candles were just for a nice ambience! ) The candle collection is a way of translating that energy reworking into a more portable form, with each candle symbolizing a different goal or ambition and packaged with a different spell to recite when lighting.

Hadley Keller

The tarot readingwhich is offered on the Les Loups site for $110, including a candlewill determine which candle best suits me. Wagner leaves the screen for my reading: "I think it's important to not have muddled energy," he explains. While he and Gray both practice Reiki, the cards are Gray's game alone. "I channel through my mind," not through cards, says Wagner.

After instructing me to set my mind on some kind of goal, Gray begins shuffling. He walks me through ten minutes of card reading before recommending "The Familiar" candle from the company's "Witch, Please" line. Its purpose"to connect with your spirit guides"seems appropriate for a novice like me.

Gray has specific instructions for lighting the candle: "Hold your candle with an intention, a wish," he instructs. "Let the energy flow from your third eye through your heart and into your hands. Imagine that that wish and when your spirit feels that it's at ease, recite your spell and light your candle."

The concept, alongside the clever names, is just cheeky enough to be funwithout the kitsch of some crystal offerings, but also doesn't take itself entirely too seriously.

Hadley Keller

When my candle arrivespackaged in a black box with a wax seal and accompanied by a box of matches decorated with a lunar designI diligently wait until the full moon, as Wagner and Gray advised, then imagine my intention, recite my spell, and set it aglow. I'm not sure if it's the spiritual energy, the witchcraft, or just the rare moment of quiet and reflection amidst the business of the day, but I feel a special kind of calm. Maybe I'm not such a skeptic after all.

6 Important Spring Cleaning Tips That Are Often Forgotten – The Apopka Voice

Posted: at 11:41 am

By Jane Lucas

As winter starts to fade away, or at least were beginning to start feeling hopeful about whats to come once it truly does, our minds often turn to the big spring clean. After the dark, sometimes more dismal dullness of winter, it can be incredibly cathartic to have a really great deep clean of our homes to get them ready for the spring and the new life that it brings with it.

The problem is that, although this deep clean is something we generally do carry out like switching winter curtains for summer ones, or maybe changing our blankets for thinner ones there are still areas that go unnoticed and missed that could definitely benefit from a deep clean this spring. Read on to find out what they are and how you can go about ensuring you include them in your spring cleaning routine.

If you have a dishwasher, you might not consider it at all when it comes to cleaning, apart from, perhaps, wiping down the door once in a while. After all, the entire point of a dishwasher is that it cleans, so it should make the insides sparkling all the time, shouldnt it? That logic does make sense, until you consider exactly how dishwashers work; they clean the items inside them, but in doing so, they wash away all the dirt and grime and food particles, many of which get stuck in the filter or at the bottom of the dishwasher itself. Every time you use it, your dishes are being cleaned along with old bits of food, and bacteria can be covering everything. On top of this, fungi can grow in the dishwasher as it is a damp, dark space with plenty for the fungi to eat.

As you can see, it would be good to include your dishwasher on your spring cleaning schedule (and every month going forward to ensure it is entirely clean). The best way to clean your dishwasher is to run it on a full cycle when its empty. Clean out the filter first, and then use the hottest setting you have, and rather than including any cleaning solution or tablets, use a cup of vinegar instead. Also, sprinkle some baking soda inside before you run it. It will look amazing when its done.

If you have ceiling fans, youll know how much you rely on them, but if you use them a lot, you might not think about them at all when it comes to cleaning; theyre just there, useful essential in some cases but unremarkable and unnoticed. This is why they can so easily be forgotten when you are carrying out your spring clean and creating a list of everything that needs to be done.

Ceiling fans do need to be cleaned, however, as they collect a lot of dust. Like anything inanimate gets dusty when left untouched, as well as the fact that it also spins when in use, it also deposits that dust all around the room, meaning that anyone who is in that room will be breathing in those tiny particles. They probably wont even notice its happening, but it most certainly is, and it can be bad for your health, especially if you have a lung condition or breathing problems like asthma or allergies.

Youll want to include your ceiling fan in your cleaning schedule. Remember to take care when you do, however, as youll need to stand on a stepladder to get to the blades. To clean a ceiling fan, youll need a pillowcase (and you might want to wear a face mask too, just in case the dust escapes). Slip the pillowcase over each blade and pull gently towards you; this will remove the dust but keep it contained so that it doesnt make the entire room dusty and give you more work to do. Once the dust is removed, you can wipe the blade down with a damp cloth.

This is the kind of job that, once its done, youll be glad you did it, but before its done, youll wonder whether its worth all the effort. We can tell you now; it is. Youll need to take everything out of the fridge and freezer before you can start this job if youre going to do it properly, so the best time to do it will be just before your next trip to the grocery store since there will be fewer items inside. Throw away anything that you cant eat anything out of date or unidentifiable and put everything else into a cool bag or box so that it doesnt perish. Youll want to move quickly on this job, particularly when it comes to the freezer, but you dont want to rush either as youll only have to do it again sooner than you would if you did it properly the first time.

Wipe down every shelf, all the walls, all the containers, even the rubber seals (food can get trapped here), and once its clean the fridge or freezer door will close more easily. Use a mix of water and vinegar to cut through any greasy spills and to kill off any lingering bacteria. Try not to use bleach if you can help it; it will do a good job and can be used in place of vinegar if need be, but its best not to use it near food products if possible.

If there is a lot of ice in the freezer and it needs to be defrosted before you can clean it, youll have to factor in this extra time. Leave the door open and let the ice melt on its own (into a container). To speed things up, you can leave a fan running by the open door, but do be wary of mixing water and electricity.

You probably make your bed every day. You possibly change your sheets once a week (give or take), but when was the last time you cleaned your mattress? Could it be that youve never done it? This might well be the case. Mattresses, despite being something we use every night and for hours at a time, are often ignored, but they do get extremely dirty. Dust mites can live there quite happily, for example, not to mention sweat and so on soaking through every night.

If your mattress is quite old, and certainly if its more than seven years old, then rather than cleaning it, you are probably best to buy a new one. Todays mattress technology means that modern mattresses are designed even better than old ones, and the difference a good mattress will make to your life will be incredible. Start by checking out a review of mattresses like Puffy and others.

If, however, there is still life in your mattress (or if you want to extend the life of the new one you have bought), you will need to clean it during your annual spring clean, and two or three more times throughout the year. To do so, sprinkle baking soda over the bare mattress and leave it for an hour. Then use your vacuum cleaner to remove the baking soda, and it will lift off the grime with it.

Your washing machine is yet another appliance that you use at least once a week and probably more but that is easily forgotten when it comes to cleaning, possibly because, as with your dishwasher, it has a self-cleaning vibe to it.

Yet, as with the dishwasher, bacteria and muck can be left behind, and the longer it goes between a thorough clean, the worse it will become. If youve ever caught a nasty odor coming from your washing machine, this will be why. Just pull back the door seal, and youll potentially find a layer of mold in the worst cases, and plenty of dirty lint otherwise.

Wipe around the entire unit with a clean cloth doused in a mixture of vinegar and water, and make sure you get into the folds of the rubber seals as this is where the worst of the problem is going to be found. Dont forget the dispenser drawer too. Once thats done, run the washing machine on the hottest cycle you have after putting two cups of vinegar into the dispenser drawer. A little tip when it comes to keeping the washing machine smelling fresher in between cleans is to leave the door open a little, if its safe to do so (pet and small children might make this a bad idea).

The oven is perhaps something we are more aware of as we can see when it becomes dirty, and when more than a quick wipe over with cleaning chemicals and a cloth is going to be required. The problem is, by that tim, the grease and grime are so baked on that the job becomes much more of a chore, and it gets put off even longer, becoming harder with every passing meal cooked.

You can get an expert in to do the job for you, and the result is sure to be an impressive one. However, if you want to save yourself some money, there are ways you can do it yourself. If you need to clean the burners, for example, put them into an ammonia-filled freezer bag and leave it outside overnight. You dont need enough ammonia to cover the burner, just a tablespoon or two is fine. In the morning, the grease will be easier to remove (remember to wear gloves when handling the burners though, and never mix ammonia with anything else).

For the oven itself, mix baking soda, lemon juice, dish soap, and vinegar. Spread this paste around the oven and leave it for a few hours, after which you can wipe away the dirt with a sponge.

Nations first Navy SEAL and local native passes away – WTAJ – www.wearecentralpa.com

Posted: January 31, 2021 at 7:21 am

SOMERSET COUNTY, MEYERSDALE, PA (WTAJ) The nations very first Navy SEAL, a man from our region has passed away on Tuesday morning at the age of 90.

Harry Beal led a full life and had lots of love for his hometown of Meyersdale, Somerset County. His son Mack says Beal wanted to make it to 90 years old. He was glad to say that he accomplished that. But Beal accomplished so much more during his life.

Harry Milton Beal entered the United States Navy in 1948 as a Gunners Mate and became the first to sign up to be a Navy SEAL. He then went on to be a SEAL instructor, specializing in underwater demolition.

Mack Beal says he made it through the training and very few people do. Underwater demolition teams and field teams, when they go through their training theyve had classes where 100 people would start and no one would finish.

He adds that he remembers growing up and visiting the naval base with his dad and his dads team. Younger Beal tells us that in the 60s you were getting your James Bond and Marvel comics and superheroes. I always thought I knew where the superheroes were they were right at the base.

Harry Beal had a great love for his wife of 67 years, who passed away in 2018.

Beal also loved his community. Mack Beal says he loved talking to people on the trails and in town and loved talking to people and telling them jokes and stories. And the community loved him back. Early this year, the former Beachley St. Bridge in Somerset County was named the Harry Beal Bridge in his honor. This past August, he got a chance to take a seat on it, while being admired by people from all over.

Mack Beal says for the seals, one of their biggest ploys in the worst storm that was going on thats when they would go out and when he passed away the other morning it was when we were having freezing rain, sleet, and hail. I said dad went out just like they usually did as a SEAL.

The family of Harry Beal invites the public to pay their respects on Thursday at Price Funeral Service in Meyersdale from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Theres also going to be a private funeral service will be held on Friday with military honors.

I woke up at 4:30 a.m. for a week like a Navy SEAL and it made me more productive – Yahoo News

Posted: at 7:21 am

Following is a transcript of the video.

Emma Fierberg: I wanted to test out for myself how waking up at 4:30 affected my productivity. I woke up at 4:30 a.m. for one week, like a Navy SEAL. I've read a lot about how Navy SEALs like Jocko Willink wake up at 4:30 in the morning. Jocko famously says that discipline equals freedom.

It is Friday, two days before I start this experiment. Normally my alarm goes off five minutes before 8:00 a.m. Setting my alarm a full three and a half hours earlier is gonna be really scary. Will I survive?

The Plan

So, we're gonna try to wake up at 4:30, do some sort of exercise, some sort of activity like a puzzle, or nails, or do some cooking maybe, make some breakfast, get dressed, and I'm gonna try to get to work by 7:00, and then I will try to be in bed by 8:00 p.m.

Challenges

I know I'm gonna break this bed by 8:00 p.m. rule, because I already have plans next week that start at 7:30. The gym in my building doesn't open until 6:00, so I'm gonna try and kill an hour and a half outdoors. I don't drink coffee, so this is probably gonna be pretty hard for me. The bag cam, what are the eye bags looking like? Pre-4:30 a.m. eyes.

It is Sunday night, it is 9:42 p.m. I am going to attempt to go to sleep. That's just not enough hours.

Monday

Never have I ever cooked at 5:20 in the morning. Here we are, 7:30 a.m. I have made my lunch for the entire week, minus Friday, I have straightened my hair, and that is it. Let's see who's here. Oh, surprise! Nobody. I was a little loopy, I was a little giddy, and then around lunchtime, I got a little hangry and I ate my lunch that I made this morning, and that got my energy back up a little bit, and then, like, 1:15, 2:00, I was just.

Story continues

Jacqui Frank: What are you doing tonight after getting up at 4:30?

Fierberg: We're going to the movies! I don't even know what to say. I'm so tired. I was pretty productive. I did finish a video. I can see already why this is a good idea for certain people. I don't know if that certain people is this people. If I had to rate my energy level from zero to 10, I would say I'm about a four and a half.

Tuesday

It's Tuesday! So, today I woke up at 4:30 and I went for a run. I hate this so much. Not a runner. Ooh, I see a rat. Oh, a duck! Look at all the wildlife! I ran for about six minutes. High five. That's what I thought. And just like that, folks, I'm a human being before 7:00 a.m. I would never describe a run as peaceful before today, but it was. The lighting was lovely. I think exercising in the morning helped me stay a little more chipper. I felt more confident today. I would say, on a scale from zero to 10, I feel about a seven. Oh, oh, and the bag cam. How are the bags doing today? My grandma calls them suitcases.

WednesdayI turned off the alarm, and then I sat in bed on my phone for about a half an hour. And then, at 5:00, I was like, alright girl, it's time, you're gonna do a thing. And guess what I did? I painted my nails! I also painted my toenails. I did a really bad job. And then I had my phone call with my friend Dana, who lives in Israel, who's seven hours ahead of me. So that was a plus. I had an interview today with someone I've been trying to get in contact with for a while, and it went really well, so I was really hype for, like, 45 minutes, and then just crashed. I had such a hard time this morning. I got into work and I couldn't function. I'm gonna play my kickball game, and I'm gonna try to go to bed by 8:00. I know that's not gonna happen, but I need to actually try. The bedtime is what's messing me up. Just got back from kickball. It's 9:12, I'm going to bed, bye!

ThursdayHi, it's Thursday, and I am much more alert! I had all this footage from a trip that I went on with my family in November, and I had never pieced it together into any sort of cohesive thing, so that's what I did this morning. I finished it, finally. And then I changed and went to the gym, then I showered and I came to work. As you can see, my energy levels are pretty high today. I cracked the formula. If you go to bed at a reasonable hour, and then you do exercise when you wake up, bag cam, bag cam. I'm looking okay today, I think.

Friday

It's Friday. Made it. I did wake up and I went for a walk at the Brooklyn Bridge, which was lovely. The weather was a perfect 72 degrees, the light was beautiful, there weren't too many clouds. Oh, it was a dream. Everyone should wake up and see the sunrise at the Brooklyn Bridge once in their life, just once. I got to call my British mom today, because they're five hours ahead, so I called her at about 5:30 this morning, and that was really nice to catch up with her. I was actually incredibly productive today for two reasons. One, I figured out the sleep schedule. Two, it's the end of Q2 and everyone was hustling. I feel okay. How do my eyes look? Check out the bag cam.

Conclusions

I have major respect for Navy SEALs who wake up at 4:30 in the morning, anyone who works night shifts, has wild hours, kudos, I get it now maybe a little bit, maybe not to the fullest extent, but, like, wow. All in all, at the end of this experiment, I understand now why people wake up at 4:30. You feel really good about yourself when you're productive before everyone else you know has even risen from the pillow. I don't know if this 4:30 time is gonna stick. I did like being awake at sunrise, but sunrise is like 5:30, so maybe I'll push to a 6:00 a.m., 6:30 wake up. Having a regimented wake up time was really useful for me. I could feel a little more rested, but other than that, I've achieved a lot of things I've needed to do for a long time this week. I think waking up at 4:30 really opened my eyes. Now that this week is over, I'm gonna go take a nap. I'll see you guys later.

Connah’s Quay councillor moved to tears after community rallies once again to help those in need – LeaderLive

Posted: at 7:21 am

THE Deeside community has once again rallied around to help families who are struggling during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Connah's Quay councillor Bernie Attridge said he was moved to tears at the generosity of people in his community after dozens jumped on board to help.

Cllr Attridge launched an appeal for food donations after two struggling families required a little extra help.

Within hours, more than enough donations were dropped off on his doorstep, which allowed him to help more families in need.

Not only did the two Connah's Quay families get help, seven houses received donations.

What's more, dozens of food hampers were also made and donated to not only people in Connah's Quay, but Flint and Shotton also.

Taking to social media, Cllr Attridge said he was 'sat with tears of happiness' and was 'proud to represent' his community.

He added: "Now that was a very mixed emotional day. We have been able to supply 56 food packages in the last two days, this has been made possible by the generosity of this great Community across Deeside.

"Although the majority of donations have Come from the Quay, I have had a few from across Deeside, hence why I have tried to help anyone who asked.

"I also took parcels to people who I thought would appreciate one in my ward. We have delivered to Flint, Shotton, Queensferry, Garden City, Sealand and all Quay wards Wepre,Wepre South, Golftyn and Central ward.

"From the bottom of my heart I thank the drivers, my family and every single person that has donated to make this happen. Stay safe."

Donations in cash were also made, which Cllr Attridge donated to the Deeside Round Table who also deliver food packages out in the community.

The Connah's Quay councillor went on to say that 'we can all fall into desperate times'.

Ironton scrapes by Panthers | Sports – Huntington Herald Dispatch

Posted: at 7:21 am

CHESAPEAKE, Ohio Irontons Erickson Barnes and Trent Hacker worked the outside-inside game oh so well.

Barnes nailed six three-pointers and Hacker, with a sore left ankle, did the yeomans work on the inside time and again, leading the Fighting Tigers past Chesapeake, 49-41, Friday night in Ohio Valley Conference play at Chesapeakes Norm Persin Court.

Barnes finished with a team-high 20 points and Hacker backed him with 18. Barnes also had 11 rebounds for a double-double for the beat-up Fighting Tigers. Barnes drilled four threes in the first period.

Erickson hit some shots when open, Ironton coach P.J. Fitch said. When he wasnt, he drew players to him, we kicked it to Hacker.

Despite the solid one-two punch from Barnes and Hacker, Ironton needed a late run to put this one away. The Fighting Tigers led 39-31 with 38 seconds left in the third period. The Panthers then converted three threes, one by Dannie Maynard and two by Levi Blankenship, to take a 40-39 lead with 5:18 left.

Ironton then reeled off 10 straight points to lead 49-40 with 1:20 to play. Barnes hit a trey and Hacker had three points in that surge. On defense, Chesapeake managed just one point in the final five-plus minutes.

Kids played really hard, Fitch said. Hackers one of the toughest kids around.

Hacker, who had ice on the ankle as he left the gym, said Barnes hitting early opened things up.

Hes got that good shot, Hacker said. When they tried to front, we got the seal and I drove inside. We didnt let the past (Chesapeakes 9-0 run) affect us. Put it behind us and come back, stop and score.

Blankenship led Chesapeake (6-7, 3-6 OVC) with 13 points and Caleb Schneider added 12. He fouled out late in the fourth period.

Barnes said he got that feeling shooters get after hitting the first two shots.

Concentrate, he said. Make the first one and every time I catch it I think shot. Hit some and the lane opens up for Trent. Hes a rough competitor.

Ironton (4-5, 4-5 OVC) is back in action Saturday night at Gallia Academy.

Fitch said the Fighting Tigers have played just two times at full strength.

Weve had a time, he said. A lot of freshmen and sophomores. We had the lead, a freshman shot one and I said, why? Hell learn. At the end, it was get stops and finish.

Ironton also took care of the ball better in the second half. The visitors had 12 turnovers in the first half against the press and pressure defense applied by the Panthers.

A few bonehead plays, but in the end we did a better job, Fitch said. Got into our press offense and didnt force anything.

The win give Ironton the season-sweep over Chesapeake. The Fighting Tigers won the first encounter on their court, 56-52, back in early December.

IRONTON 16 10 13 10 49: Wilson 2, Hacker 18, Hopper 5, Porter 2, Barnes 20, York 5.

CHESAPEAKE 17 10 7 7 41: Maynard 3, Schneider 12, Cox 4, Blankenship 13, Bragg 6, Bellomy 2, Lemley 1.
