Are The Odds Fair On Rare Roulette? – Scoop.co.nz

Posted: March 18, 2021 at 12:10 am

Thursday, 18 March 2021, 1:26 pmPress Release: Rare Disorders NZ

Living with a rare health condition can be a geneticlottery as well as a complete game of chance in terms of thesupport and healthcare available in NewZealand.

Anyone, anytime, could find themselves ora loved one having to cope with the symptoms of a raredisorder, says RDNZ Chief Executive Lisa Foster. Whilethe disorders themselves may be diverse, the discriminatorybarriers within the system are strikingly common, and oftenexceptionally difficult for the rare disordercommunity.

Join Rare Disorders NZ and theircollective of more than 100 support groups at Parliament onWednesday 24 March to handover a petition for reform to DrLiz Craig MP on behalf of the 300,000 New Zealanders livingwith a rare disorder. Take your chance and spin the RareRoulette wheel to learn more about the systemicdiscrimination and barriers facing the 1 in 17 people livingwith a rare condition.

We met with Health MinisterAndrew Little on 1 March 2021 to discuss the urgent issuesand opportunities for equity. Now is the time for action toensure our health system is fair for rare. With no currentrecognition or seat at the table with Government, how canthere be authentic inclusion of the rare disordercommunity? says Lisa.

The reality of living with arare condition can mean waiting years for a diagnosis, juggling specialist appointments and no clear pathway tocare or social supports including mental health andeducation support.

For a progressive and kindcountry, is this fair? The most heartbreaking aspect is thatsolutions are available now that are cost effective, so whyis nothing happening? This is not a marginalised issue andthe whole country would benefit from action, saysLisa.

International evidence shows that rare disordersneed specific pathways and policies, and taking action makeseconomic, social and moral sense. New Zealanders would beshocked to learn that New Zealand lags behind most OECDcountries in supporting people living with rare disorders toaccess vital health and social care. Many other countriesincluding Brazil, China, the Philippines, Sweden the UK andAustralia are taking action to ensure equitable diagnosis, treatment and care.

Rare Disorders NZ have offered towork with the Government to integrate and align raredisorders within the living standards framework andwellbeing budget, as well as co-create a National RareDisorder Framework.

We know from internationalevidence that any review of the current health anddisability system without consultation with the raredisorder community will not lead to equity for thisvulnerable group, says Lisa.

There are more NewZealanders living with a rare disorder than those diagnosedwith diabetes - an estimated 300,000 people. Within raredisorders there are over 6,000 different conditions with awide range of symptoms that impact on daily life in variedways but with common barriers.

To better supportpeople with a rare health condition, especially during apandemic, there needs to be acknowledgment of the specificchallenges they face as a collective group and a willingnessto act, says Lisa. With clear recognition as a healthpriority, practical actions can be implemented for thisvulnerable population.

RDNZ, and their collectiveof more than 100 rare disorder support groups, are callingfor systemic changes to ensure people living with a raredisorder are acknowledged within our healthcare system. TheFair for Rare NZ campaign wants acknowledgement of thecommon challenges facing the rare disorder community throughthe development of a National Rare DisorderFramework.

We hear stories all the time from peopleliving with a rare disorder with the same pleading messagethat they want respect, to be seen, heard and acknowledgedby this Government - what can we tell them? One answer givenby the Ministry of Health has been that future changesrelated to recommendations from the Health and DisabilityReview will resolve the current barriers. But if there is noawareness of the issues or consultation with the rarecommunity, how can there be confidence with that promise?says Lisa.

Rare Disorders NZ is the connector hub andcollective voice for patients and families affected by raredisorders. Rare health conditions affect 6% of NewZealanders.

There is no acknowledged definition ofrare disease in NZ, however RDNZ follows the European Unionpolicy which defines a disorder as rare when it affectsfewer than 1 in 2,000. More than 6,000 rare disorderscollectively affect around 300,000 NewZealanders.

Pennsylvania And Massachusetts Further Relax Gambling Restrictions – CardPlayer.com

Posted: at 12:10 am

Massachusetts and Pennsylvania were the latest states to ease restrictions on its respective casino industries as governors around the country have begun to allow larger crowds with COVID-19 case counts dropping and vaccines are being distributed.

Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf made similar moves as New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy when he raised operating capacity for casinos to 50% of its maximum. Wolf also said that effective April 4, limits will be raised to 75%. This is in stark contrast to Wolfs attitude just a few months ago when he shut the states gaming market down for a second time in December before reopening it the following month.

Murphy announced last week that he would allow Atlantic City casinos to operate at 50% effective March 19 but did not announce a timetable for allowing more patrons inside.

Regulators in Massachusetts didnt implement any new rules for capacity restrictions but are allowing patrons to gamble on games that were previously banned. According to the Milford Daily News, the Massachusetts Gaming Commission is now allowing casinos to resume spreading craps games.

When Massachusetts reopened its brick-and-mortar casinos last year, regulators wouldnt resume craps, roulette and poker. Casino operators pleaded with the commission in August to allow the games to resume, but regulators wouldnt budge.

Roulette was authorized in October but poker is still not allowed and there is no timetable for its return. Craps games will be allowed to have six players at the table and dice will be cleaned before a new player begins a roll. Blackjack tables will also increase its occupancy from three players per table to four.

Massachusetts, and the northeastern states in general, have taken a more cautious approach to its gambling markets. In October, as the state faced a second wave of COVID-19 cases, Gov. Charlie Baker forced casinos to close at 9:30 p.m. The mandate was lifted in January.

But unlike other states like New Jersey and Pennsylvania, which have a robust online market for its residents, Massachusetts is devoid of internet gambling.

The Walking Dead Season 10 Episode 19 Twist Is One Of Its Darkest Ever – Screen Rant

Posted: at 12:10 am

The Walking Dead's latest season 10 offering delivers a startling reminder that the long-running zombie apocalypse series can still chill the bones.

The Walking Dead may be heading towards its final run, but season 10's latest offering proves the show's infamous ability to unsettle hasn't faded yet. Inthe wake ofThe Walking Dead season 11 being delayed due to COVID-19, AMC chose to extend season 10 with a series of anthology episodes focusing on different characters. After Maggie's return and Daryl's flashback, "One More" turns its attention towards Gabriel (Seth Gilliam) and Aaron (Ross Marquand), as they desperately hunt for any canned beans that haven't been scavenged. The priest and his companion strike the jackpot when chancing upon a boar, a bottle of booze and a pack of cards, but when something seems too good to be true inThe Walking Dead, it usually is.

As Gabriel wakes up a little worse for wear, he finds thatlast night's pork and whiskey belonged to Robert Patrick's Mays. As if getting on the wrong side ofTerminator 2's T-1000 wasn't enough, Mays is packing a loaded automatic rifle and has already taken Aaron hostage. The scarred stranger reveals that he once traveled with his brother, but was betrayed when food began to run scarce. Now, Mays wants to prove that the apocalypse has corrupted everyone, so forces his captives to play a deadly game of Russian Roulette, whereeach shot can be aimed at either their opponent or themselves.By refusing to turn on each other, the duo convince Mays that virtue isn't completely dead... and then Gabriel kills him.

Related:Why The Walking Dead Season 10 Return Looks So Different

But the real twist of "One More" comes when Gabriel and Aaron explore deeper into Mays' hideout and find his brother (it's Robert Patrick again!) chained up next to twoskeletons - the prisoner's wife and daughter. Each skull has a bullet wound, and the brother mumbles "he made me play..." Clearly, Mays forced his brother to either play the Russian Roulette game with his wife and child, or watch whiletheother two participated. Given the positions of the bullet holes (the adult's in the center, the child's to the side), the wife was probably killed by her "opponent" in the game, whereas the child was a victim of bad luck. Mays' brother could have shot his wife, but couldn't do the same when sat opposite his daughter, surviving through chance alone.

Even byThe Walking Dead's standards, this is a rather disturbing turn of events, but one that plays on audience assumptions about Robert Patrick's character. At first, viewers are encouraged to dislike Mays - he takes Aaron hostage and risks killing the two protagonists, after all. But whenthe facade finally cracks and Mays giveshis name, the audiencefeel angry toward Gabriel, who caved the man'shead in despite the situation being defused. Aaron is salty with his friend too, but when the hidden area and its literal skeletons are revealed, Mays' true nature comes to the fore. One way or another, Mays killed his niece and sister-in-law, causing a child's death merely to provehispoint. Suddenly, Gabriel's actions don't seem quite so bad. It's an emotional roller coaster that matches the episode's overarching discussion - is there still good left in the world? Aaron proves there is, but after Gabriel takes a life needlessly and Mays' pastbecomes clear itself, the priest's words from earlier echo in the mind. Evil is the rule; good is the exception.

The Walking Dead season 10's Mays storyline certainly ranks highly among the zombie apocalypse's all-time darkest moments. Negan's introduction was ruthlessly violent, Carol's "look at the flowers" scene was an emotional gut-punch, and Rick biting an attacker was grim but necessary. But in each of those cases, the lines of "good" and "evil"were drawn quite clearly. In "One More," Mays' evil isn't properly shown until the very final moments. For once, viewers must judge a stranger purely on what they've seen, meaning some will agree with Gabriel's swift, decisive action, and others will side with Aaron's mercy. By drawing the viewer into the discussion,The Walking Dead creates one of its most morally gruesome moments yet.

What Do You Need to Know to Be a Roulette Dealer ? | Udaipur News – Udaipur Kiran

Posted: at 12:10 am

Most jobs require special skills and abilities to perform them well. Pilots need licenses and practice flying their planes. Doctors need a considerable amount of training and expertise in the medical field. Even retail managers need experience smoothly operating a store. But what about roulette dealers? What do you need to be an effective roulette dealer?

Source: Pixabay

As online casinos have taken off in popularity, many of the immersive elements of the physical casino have been translated into a digital format. Namely, roulette has been transformed into live roulette. But this doesnt mean there is no need for a roulette dealer. Just because the game has moved online, it doesnt mean that some of the best aspects of the games history are being ignored.

As for the roulette options at Royal Panda show, there are many different live variants. These games are accompanied by a dealer who will spin the wheel in real-time. Some specifically focus on male dealers and others on female dealers. There are many varieties of roulette from 24/7 roulette for those who want to play live at all hours of the day to European roulette, Arabic roulette, French, and Deutsches roulette. The wide range of different forms of roulette proves how much use there is for a roulette dealer, despite the game largely being played online.

According to the job specification on JobHero, there are quite a lot of attributes necessary for a roulette dealer. The dealer needs to reflect the suave and sophisticated nature of the casino industry, while also being able to ensure games run smoothly. As with any customer-facing job, there may be requirements for dealing with prickly customers. The dealer is essentially responsible for their table and ensuring that everything runs as it should.

Source: Pixabay

There are some specific skills necessary for roulette dealers to have. It goes without saying that a roulette dealer should know the ins and outs of the game. Roulette is fairly easy to understand, but dealers may be expected to have a wider understanding of the entire casino. Dealers must have strong attention to detail to keep track of the play and help generate a tense atmosphere. Nothing would ruin the tension more than a puzzled dealer forgetting whose chips are whose.

Customer service skills are necessary for both in-person and online live roulette dealers. It is the dealers responsibility to ensure that people have a good time while they play. They cant control whether people are successful with their bets or not, but they can make sure that everyone feels they are given adequate care and attention.

Above all, the roulette dealer should have stamina and the ability to stand for hours at a time delivering service with a smile. While most people play at a table for a few minutes, each person should feel as though the dealer is equally pleased and excited to be there as they are.

Ultimately, the roulette dealer must have a passion for the game. A large win is an exhilarating moment for the customer, and it should be for the dealer as well. Passionate roulette dealers can complete the experience and can ensure customers keep coming back to play the same table.

Being a roulette dealer is a fulfilling job. Providing you have the necessary attributes; you could forge a strong career in roulette. The opportunities for online advancement mean that you dont have to be stationed at a physical location and can instead work virtually.

Why The Walking Dead Fans Are Loving The Latest Episode Of Season 10C – Looper

Posted: at 12:10 am

In the third episode of The Walking Dead's season 10C, titled "One More," former priest Gabriel Stokes and Aaron, who has a deadly weapon for a hand, scavenge for supplies amid the ruins of homes and other remnants of civilization wrecked by the zombie outbreak. The two soon find a warehouse not included on a map of the area they possess, and Gabriel ultimately ends up in a game of Russian roulette against a rogue survivor, with Aaron's life at stake on top of his own.

"I gotta say, I liked this episode a lot more than the other two," wrote Reddit user GlowWorm23113, who went on to praise the dynamic between Gabriel and Aaron as well as the juxtaposition of comedy and drama. User userachel agreed, writing, "I love the humour mixed with the deep debates and thriller."

The climactic Russian roulette game in particular was a favorite of many Reddit users. "Honestly, I've never felt as intense watching an episode as I did with this. The roulette scene alone was terrifying," wrote user leonmasteries. "That Russian roulette scene was the most intense TWD has been since the pikes imo," said user OrangeBackpack312.

Finally, some users described certain filmmaking elements as particularly noteworthy in The Walking Dead's latest outing. User simplymatt1995 asked, "Does anyone know who the screenwriter was? Because the writing was absolutely superb. Some of the best written dialogue and character dynamics I've come across on the show in recent years," while user Kikokens simply noted that "everyone did a great job on the acting side and it was beautifully shot."

The Walking Deadseason 10C is scheduled to air for 10 episodes in total and will conclude in April 2021.

You won’t find this Roulette in any casino – Sidney Herald Leader

Posted: March 16, 2021 at 2:48 am

Im a huge rodeo fan. I have attended everything from local small town rodeos to Cheyenne Frontier Days to PBR events and Ive enjoyed them all. I know Sidney has a big event coming up later this year and I look forward to attending this one for the first time.

While it wasnt an actual rodeo, I did get the chance to see what its like to actually be a participant a few years back. It was actually about 20 years back.

I was working on a ranch in Wickenburg, Arizona and a radio ad said a bar in Phoenix offered bull riding a couple of times a week. It was basically a chance for those learning to ride bulls to get some practice in, however anyone who was willing to pay the $20 fee was allowed to ride.

Being born with more gumption than brains, I saw this as the perfect chance to give it a try.

I arrived at the bar, which had a small arena connected to the building. This was a real-deal arena complete with a grandstand, announcer, rodeo clown, pickup man and live bulls.

I have to admit I was pretty excited.

As I headed to the sign-up table, I stopped a moment to look over the bulls. I noticed only one had horns. Huge horns. No problem, I thought. Its not likely Ill get the only bull with horns.

I paid my $20 and told the guy it was my first time.

He said, Ill put you on one of the easiest ones in that case. He then pointed down in the pen and said, See that one with the horns. His name is Roulette. Thats your bull.

I must admit I was slightly concerned. Not concerned enough to back out but still concerned.

I proceeded to the staging area where all the sho-nuff bull riders were prepping for their rides. Im pretty sure I was twice as old as every one of them.

Of course, I had no idea of how to get ready but I kinda watched the others and tried to copy what they did as best I could.

A short time later folks came out of the bar and sat in the grandstands, the announcer and clown did their thing and the show started.

I was about the fourth rider up.

I climbed down into the chute and it was total chaos from that point on.

One cowboy was holding on to me in case the bull decided to go crazy and he needed to pull me out of the chute. All the other cowboys were hollering for me to make the ride. The fella in charge helped cinch my hand in the rope. As he did so, he said, When you hit the ground get up and get to the fence.

While I knew very little about riding a bull, that much I was pretty sure of.

I nodded my head and the gate opened. The announcer said, This is Mark Berryman and he is making his first ride tonight.

There was a sudden surge as the bull leapt out of the chute. I felt him hop two or three times. As he did I thought, Im going to be OK if it dont get no worse than this.

A split second after that thought I suddenly saw the ground coming at my face at a high rate of speed. I hit the ground hard and as instructed, jumped to my feet and headed to the fence.

It was then I understood why some refer to a cowboy being thrown off a bull as being a yard dart.

I have no idea exactly what happened between thinking I was going to make the ride and hitting the ground. I know I did not voluntarily release the rope because I strained every muscle from my fingers to my shoulder on my riding arm. I am guessing Roulette lived up to his name and went into a spin to the left because I had exited the back of the bull to the right.

The fella that runs the show started telling me what I needed to do on my next ride. I politely told him there would not be a next ride. Once was plenty enough.

As I said in the beginning. Im looking forward to the Richland County Fair & Rodeo this August. Just dont expect to see me on the back of a bull.

Inaction leaves world playing Russian roulette with pandemics, say experts – The Guardian

Posted: at 2:48 am

Governments must fill a major gap in post-Covid recovery plans with action on the root cause of pandemics the destruction of nature a new coalition of health and environment groups has warned.

Crucial investments and actions are missing, the Preventing Pandemics at the Source coalition said, leaving the world playing an ill-fated game of Russian roulette with pathogens.

Many trillions of dollars are justifiably being spent to strengthen human healthcare and boost the global economy, said the coalition, but far less expensive measures to halt deforestation and end the illegal wildlife trade are vital. The call is the latest in a series of high-level warnings that worse and more frequent pandemics will strike without action, but to date these have been largely unheeded.

The coronavirus that causes Covid-19 is thought to have jumped from wild bats to humans and about two-thirds of diseases that infect humans start in other species, including the influenza, HIV, Zika, West Nile and Ebola viruses. The increasing destruction of nature by farming, logging and the wild animal trade has brought people and their livestock into closer contact with wildlife and led to a great increase in diseases crossing from animals to people in recent decades.

The Covid-19 vaccines will help rescue us from this current mess, but it wont do a thing to protect us from the next pandemic said Aaron Bernstein at the TH Chan school of public health at Harvard University in the US, which is part of the coalition. Only with actions that stop emerging infections where they start can we end our ill-fated game of Russian roulette with pathogens.

Amy Vittor from the University of Floridas division of infectious diseases and global medicine said: Forests and tropical forests in particular harbour complex networks of microbes and their wildlife hosts. Degrading these landscapes carries the potential of unleashing these microbes upon our domesticated animals and ourselves. Therefore, maintaining the integrity of forests serves to not only protect biodiversity and mitigate climate change, but also to contain these complex and potentially dangerous pathogen networks.

Global spending to date in response to Covid-19 is believed to exceed $20tn (14.45tn) but a study from July estimated spending just $27bn a year would substantially reduce the risks of another pandemic on the scale of the coronavirus outbreak.

Jon Epstein, an expert on zoonotic viruses at the EcoHealth Alliance, said: Relatively modest spending and cooperation between governments in emerging disease hotspots to combat deforestation, significantly reduce commercial wildlife trade and improve biosecurity around livestock would help significantly.

Cutting the tropical deforestation driven by beef, soy, palm oil, and wood pulp and paper is crucial, the coalition said. Recognising the rights of indigenous peoples, who hold centuries of knowledge on living harmoniously with nature, would also be an important step towards forest protection, it said.

In October, the worlds leading scientists said the world was in an era of pandemics and that diseases would emerge more often, spread more rapidly, kill more people and affect the global economy with more devastating impact than ever before, unless the devastation of the natural world ends.

Since the coronavirus pandemic began, the UN, World Health Organization and others have warned the world must tackle the cause of these outbreaks and not just the health and economic symptoms. In June, experts called the pandemic an SOS signal for the human enterprise.

Melinda Kimble, a senior fellow at the UN Foundation, said a G7 summit being hosted by the UK in June and a new US administration made it the perfect time for global leadership and concrete action to protect people and the planet.
