Aerosmith Releases Early Cut of ‘Movin’ Out’ From RSD Release – wmgk.com

Posted: November 19, 2021 at 5:32 pm

Aerosmith is one of many acts dropping a title during next weeks Record Store Day Black Friday, and they offered up a preview with an early version of Movin Out from their 1973 self-titled debut.

As previously reported, this cut of Movin Out is one of seven tracks on 1971: The Road Starts Hear. Aerosmith confirmed via their social media channels 10,000 vinyl copies and 2,000 cassette copies will be released of this title. The other tracks include the following: Rehearsal Room; Somebody; Reefer Headed Woman + Walkin The Dog; Major Barbra; Dream On; Mama Kin.

Per the releases description on RecordStoreDay.com, Boston 1971: A historic early recording of Aerosmith in their rehearsal room just the band, crew and friends captured on Joe Perrys tape recorder. This never-before-heard performance showcases the early, raw talent of this future Hall Of Fame band, one year before signing to Columbia Records, and two years before their eponymous debut, which featured many of these songs, including their enduring anthem Dream On.'

1971: The Road Starts Hearis listed as an RSD Black Friday First Release, which means the title could receive a subsequent release in the near future. This makes sense considering Aerosmith's recent high-profile deal with Universal Music Group (UMG.) This new deal kicks in beginning in 2022 and will see Aerosmiths entire catalog under the UMG umbrella instead of being split with Sony Music Entertainment and will also include merchandising and audio-video projects including new film, television and other audio-visual content projects celebrating Aerosmiths history and significant cultural impact.

This deal also gives UMG access to Aerosmiths Vindaloo Vaults of music, photos, video and other memorabilia as well as the personal archives of Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, Tom Hamilton, Joey Kramer and Brad Whitford.

I was part of the team that found the Homo naledi childs skull: how we did it – Daily Maverick

Posted: at 5:31 pm

In two journal articles researchers estimate that the child died almost 250,000 years ago, at the age between four and six years old. Given that this is the first partial skull of a child of Homo naledi ever recovered, it can offer important insights into the species different life stages.

The child has been named Leti after the Setswana word letimela, meaning the lost one. The Conversation Africas Natasha Joseph spoke with Dr Marina Elliott, lead author of the paper describing how and where the skull was discovered, about the painstaking and physically demanding work involved in bringing Leti to the surface.

Seven years ago, you became an Underground Astronaut. What does that entail?

The Underground Astronauts is a nickname for the group of six scientists and excavators from the original Rising Star expedition. We got the name, I think, because working in the Dinaledi Chamber was a little bit like a space mission: a journey through the darkness, working remotely with only video and voice connection to a command centre on the surface, and matching overalls and helmets.

All of us ended up on the project after responding to a Facebook ad that Lee Berger posted, asking for excavators who were able (and willing!) to dash off to South Africa on a months notice to work in a cave system, in cramped quarters, in a small team to excavate some fossil material. We didnt really know at the time what we would end up with, or how important it would be.

Can you describe the Rising Star system?

The Rising Star cave system is located in the Cradle of Humankind, just outside Johannesburg. Its a large area that has many caves, cave systems and underground rivers, and it has been famous for important fossil finds since the 1920s. The Rising Star cave system isnt just one big cave: its a complex network of tunnels, passages, squeezes and chambers, some of which interconnect. Its more of a maze or labyrinth than a single cave.

The Dinaledi Chamber is just one in a sub-system of chambers and passages within the larger Rising Star system. The new fossil area, U.W.110, where the childs remains were recovered, is in a very small passage in the Dinaledi Chamber, about 12 metres away from where we originally excavated adult Homo naledi fossils.

Do you remember the first time you went into Rising Star?

Shortly after we arrived on site, some of the cavers took us into Rising Star to give us a sense of the route and the spaces. It was very interesting at first, walking along the passages with the musty smells of the cave all around us. But we quickly had to crawl through a squeeze, then climbed up a knife-ridge of rock (called the Dragons Back) using harnesses, and arrived at an area called the top of the Chute.

We didnt go down the Chute that day, but knew we would be heading into it the next day to begin the excavations. I remember peering into it, knowing that it was a 12 metre long vertical fissure in the rock, but not being able to see the route for the narrowness of the gap and the spikes of rock all the way down. I remember thinking perhaps Id been too hasty in signing up for such a project!

But the excitement of the fossils overcame that feeling and the next day Becca Peixotto, Hannah Morris and I were the first excavators to go in. The chute took a long time to negotiate, but then we dropped into a small chamber that led into the Dinaledi Chamber proper.

I was the first of the group to step into the Dinaledi Chamber and it was pretty amazing. With only my headlamp for light, I had to sweep back and forth to see what was there; immediately, I could see that there were fragments of bone all over the floor. Even without knowing there was so much more below the surface, it was exhilarating to stand there, thinking about how we were going to get all the material out, how it got there and what it all meant.

How did you find the skull, and then bring it out?

The discovery of the U.W.110 location came out of explorations that we conducted in 2017, trying to understand more about the physical spaces in the Dinaledi sub-system; how they might have formed and how the fossil material might have arrived in the area. The exploration team was tasked with systematically exploring and mapping as many of the interconnected passages as possible, for as far as they could physically work their way in.

The U.W.110 location is just over 12 metres from the Dinaledi Chamber excavation area. To get there from the Dinaledi Chamber, you have to go through a short squeeze and into another small chamber called Chaos. From there, you have to climb over some fallen boulders and drop into a narrow crawl space. The Leti material was recovered from the surface of a tight, narrow passage a bit further in, that can only be accessed with difficulty by one person at a time.

Becca Peixotto recovered the fragments, but had to do so bent around a corner and almost upside down. Even taking photos of the material in place was difficult because of the small, awkward spaces and Becca had to pass each piece through a little window of rock out to me. Before we removed anything, it was documented photographs, drawings etc and given a field number and label. We wrapped each fragment in bubble wrap, placed it in a plastic container and then put it in a dry bag to be carried up to the surface.

Do you think the Rising Star system holds more secrets?

I think there is likely a lot more to find in the cave system. There may be other locations of H. naledi material, but there is also a lot of work that still needs to be done in the Dinaledi and Lesedi Chambers (and elsewhere in the system) to understand the geology and context of the fossils, and so many questions remain to be answered. DM/ML

What do you do? I am the founder of AANTHOLOGIES. Based in Melbourne/ Naarm we are a boutique agency offering publicity, artist management and creative consultancy for clients within the music industry.

Why do you do it? Those who have shared co-working spaces with me know that it's not uncommon for me to cry at my desk when I hear a special song for the first time.

That feeling when it's in your chest and you can't control the muscles in your face that. I feel incredibly lucky to be in a position where my job is to help people connect with the music, tell stories and create moments.

What do you love about the city you live in? Melbourne's music community is kind and welcoming. It doesn't have the competitive nature that I've experienced working in other cities, and I've found many of my closest friends here. We also have the best coffee.

Where did you go for your last holiday? My last holiday was a trip to Japan. I was lucky enough to travel to Fuji Rock with The Teskey Brothers and spent a week in Toyko with my best friend. It was the best holiday I've ever had.

What's your favourite item of clothing? My RMs I live in these shoes.

What was your favourite TV show when you were a kid? When I was little, Iloved this show called 'H.R. Pufnstuf', which on reflection is rather terrifying!

If you could travel back in time for a day, where would you go? I would go back to Japan and do Fuji Rock all over again.

If we were coming over to your place, what would you cook us? We'd get takeaway.

What's the best lesson you've ever learned? Be honest and authentic. Trust your intuition and keep asking questions.

Tell us one thing about yourself that nobody else knows. It's possible/ highly likely that my most played artists of 2021 will be Human Nature and Texas.

Are you happy with your work/ life balance? It's the best it's ever been, but maintaining it requires constant work. Lockdown changed my mindset in a really positive way. I no longer feel the pressure to be at every event. . . all the time. I value my home time and see it as an opportunity to recharge.

How do you define success? Happiness and satisfaction. Being proud of the work that I do and enjoying the process.

What's your spirit animal? My sister is awildlife photographerand we have discussed this at length. I would say it's a blackbird. She would say it's a sloth.

Inside Rocker Billy Idols Relationship History: Famous Ladies He Dated Who Stole His Heart – Closer Weekly

Posted: at 11:28 pm

Billy Idolhas been a bonafide heartthrob since stepping onto the London punk rock music scene in 1976. Before his career as a solo artist took off, Billy performed in a band called Chelsea. His bandmates decided to give him a now-iconic makeover and his retro look became a hit with the ladies. Though his fame led to a slew of relationships with some big Hollywood stars, Billy has never been married.

Billy released his self-titled debut album in 1982. His songsWhite Wedding and Dancing with Myself became staples of the MTV lineup as the Second British Invasion swept across the U.S. music scene. Billy released two more albums within the decade that saw commercial success. Fans became even more interested in the rockers personal life and bad boy reputation.

With his bleach blonde locks and his famous leather getup, Billy became a poster boy for punk rock all over the world. In an October 2019episode of Rolling Stone: Music Now podcast,Billy shared how his looks contributed to his success early on in his career.

Yeah, I could attract girls. That was the other thing. Most of the punk rock groups played to it was all men, virtually, all men, except maybe there was five girls there, or 10, he shared. We played to half girls and half guys. There you go. Theres one side of it, yeah, you get a little bit slagged off, Yeah, hes only getting wheres hes getting because hes good-looking or something, I dont know.

Not all of the relationships that Billy was in throughout his career were with famous women. Touring the world became the new norm for Billy with the success of his eight studio albums. In a 2014 interview with CBS, Billy spoke about his female admirers and groupies he met on tour.

Its impossible, he said about being faithful. I mean, especially on a 10-month tour, on a bus, going from nowhere, from place to place to Dennys, Carls Jr., Dennys, McDonalds, Carls Jr., Dennys, truck stop, and you wanted something to break up the monotony. And the only way to do it was a piece of human flesh.

Billy is now a doting father and grandfather, and has been settled down with one woman for the past few years. Scroll to find out more about Billys relationship history.

The Sweet Sixteen singer began dating dancerPerri Listerin 1980. Perri was a member of the dance group Hot Gossip beginning in the 1970s. She was also one of the original Blitz Kids, a group that became known in the London nightclub scene for launching the New Romantic movement.

In 1988, Billy and Perri welcomed a baby boy,Willem Wolf Broad. At the time, rumors were swirling that Billy had been unfaithful to Perri. He began seeingLinda Mathisin 1988. The pair welcomed their daughter,Bonnie Blue Broad,in 1989. Billy later admitted in a November 2016 interview withLouderthat it was hard to resist temptation on the road and remain faithful in his relationship with Perri.

Well, we were out on the road for a long time. TheRebel Yelltour was 10 months. Youre out in the middle of nowhere, and in those days there were no computers or cable television, particularly, so one had to entertain oneself, he said. And, of course, one usually used whatever there was in the audience for that. I loved Perri but I couldnt help but have dalliances. Now Im a lot different. I have a girlfriend who Im very much involved with and I dont want to be with anybody else but her.

In an interview withPaperin 2011,The Real Housewives of New York Citystar Sonja Morgan revealed that she once dated Billy. Though she did not reveal what year they dated, she shared that he was also dating Perri at the time.

I went out with Billy for a while. That was nice, she shared. It was scary because he was dating Perri Lister, she had red hair and was like six feet tall. Hes a vegetarian and a very nice man.

ActressMelissa Gilbertrose to fame starring inLittle House on the Prairiein 1974. She met Billy at a club in Los Angeles in the late 80s. She was smitten right from the first conversation.

He impressed me as a sweet, gentle, and soft-spoken charmer, Melissa wrote in hermemoir,Prairie Tale.He wanted to know all about Michael Landon and he asked what it was like to grow up on television. At the end of the night, we exchanged numbers and a few days later he called and asked me out.

The pair began dating but drifted apart after attending a party at the Bel Age Hotel in Beverly Hills. Melissa said she witnessed serious drug use and people out of control and ended things with Billy after seeing a glimpse of darkness.

Did Robert Plant Really Go to a Sex Club With Members of ABBA? – Ultimate Classic Rock

Posted: at 11:27 pm

It seems like a tall tale, but then again, the story came from the mouth of someone who reached the greatest heights of rock n roll excess so perhaps theres some truth.

Did Robert Plant and Led Zeppelin bandmate Jimmy Page end up drinking in a club with Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus of ABBA while live sex shows took place around them? If they did, the setting was in 1978 at Stockholm, Sweden, Plant happily divulged in a 2005 Swedish TV interview.

He was certainly in an impish mood, suggesting that he was very active as a young man and liked to work out in cheap motels. Plant also referred to the game of tennis as another excuse for wife-swapping, and invited the female interviewer to join me inside a small hat.

Now, I used to know Benny and Bjorn very well, Plant also tells her in the clip below. Jimmy Page and myself, we went out with Benny and Bjorn most nights. There were some very nice clubs here in Stockholm then. People seemed to want to go to sleep very early when we got to them, because they immediately got out a circular mattress with a zip down the middle. And ladies and men started going to sleep together, while we were having a drinkie-winkie with Benny and Bjorn.

The interviewer exclaims, Now youre just lying! Plant replies: I swear! It was called a [dramatic pause] sex club. He said the Abba duo would substantiate his story if they were invited onto the show, then turned to the camera. You remember that, Benny and Bjorn? Plant asks, with a wagging finger. We used to run away from your women!

Plant didnt go so far as to suggest theyd partaken in anything other than booze. By this point, he had cleaned up his act following the 1977 death of young son Karak. Andersson was then ABBA bandmate Anni-Frid Lyngstad's husband, while Ulveus and Fridas co-singer Agnetha Faltskog were also married.

Watch Robert Plant Reveal Sex Club Visit with ABBA Members

Page later confirmed at least part of the story, while discussing ABBA's personal invitation for Led Zeppelin to record In Through the Out Door at their Polar Studios.

The studio was only known for ABBA, and they wanted an internationally known rock group to record there, Page told Classic Rock in 2015. We had a chat and they said theyd be generous with studio time. We went out there in December, I think. It was biting cold, snow everywhere.

I met Bjorn when I was setting up, Page added. He gave me a guitar, which was very sweet. A day later I met Benny. At the time, Benny was still married to Frida. So we all went out to a club together one night. They were nice people. He added that he didnt encounter the fourth ABBA member, saying: I was rather hoping we were going to meet Agnetha, but that wasnt part of the deal!

ABBA recently returned to the fore with Voyage, their first album in four decades. The band has never spoken about the sex-club rumor, except through a spokespersons comment following Plant's TV interview.

The brief statement said: "They've never been at any sex club with Robert Plant.

From AC/DC to ZZ Top, from 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' to 'London Calling,' they're all here.

Why Don't More People Love This Zeppelin Album?

East Stroudsburg South wins an overtime thriller vs. Whitehall to earn district title – Pocono Record

Posted: November 13, 2021 at 11:12 am

For anyone who didn't believe in miracles before Friday night, East Stroudsburg South's football team changed that.

South claimed victory to the District 11 Class 5A championship with a thrilling 47-41 overtime victory over Whitehall that at times seemed hopeless for the Cavaliers.

Both the defense and offense came out flat, first allowing an opening-drive touchdown to Whitehall before going three-and-out, then again allowing Whitehall quarterback Trey Dogmanits to connect with Bryce Bashore for a touchdown.

The tide seemed to turn after falling down 13-0 as South quarterback Bobby McClosky found Colin Burdian for a touchdown and the defense forced a punt, but a Ron Blake goal line fumble and unsportsmanlike conduct penalty from South head coach Matt Walters set Whitehall up for a five-play, 65-yard drive and a touchdown.

Of interest: Pocono Draw annual lacrosse tournament returning to Pleasant Valley for fifth year

Monroe County runners: Photos: PIAA girls' and boys' cross country championships

When Blake South's rock all season on offense fumbled for a second time on South's very next drive, the game seemed to be slipping out of the Cavaliers' fingers. With the defense struggling to stop every level of Whitehall's offense,South's run game unable to get going and the team uncharacteristically committing penalties, South appeared on the verge of crumbling.

South took a 13-point deficit into halftime thanks to McClosky and Burdian connecting again shortly before the second quarter ended.

McClosky ultimately proved to be the game's hero, totaling six touchdowns and an interception. The senior quarterback passed for four scoresand rushed in two TDs.

He wasn't just the hero of regulation. McClosky intercepted Dogmanits on Whitehall's first play of overtime, then found wide receiver Shane Bulay for the game-winning score.

This wasn't any old overtime game, though. After McClosky rushed in a touchdown to start the fourth quarter and bring South within six, Whitehall scored quickly on a drive ending with an 8-yard pass from Dogmanits to Devin Donatelli.

The Zephyrs evaporated any momentum South had built by forcing an ugly three-and-out possession that forced the Cavaliers to punt despite being down 14 with only 8 minutes remaining.

South thwarted a fake field goal attempt from Whitehall on fourth-and-long shortly after and retook possession with just 4:40 on the clock and that same 14-point deficit.

Winning the game would take a miracle.

That miracle came in the form of, as mentioned earlier, a hero in Bobby McClosky.

Somehow, some way, McClosky found Burdian and Nic Perez for unbelievable plays. There was a fire lit inside the heart ofthis team that knew it had no choice but to score quickly to keep its season alive.

Burdian's third touchdown catch of the day reduced the Cavaliers' deficit to just six points, but only 2:23 remained on the clock.

No time proved to be better for a team that has been kicking onside kicks all season long. And who better to attempt it than McClosky?

McClosky's kick zigged and zagged past the first line of Whitehall players, through the hands of Whitehall senior leader Damonte Foreman and into the hands of Bulay.

The sideline erupted.

A deficit that seemed like a pipe dream to overcome just mere minutes ago was now slipping through Whitehall's hands, as the red-hot Cavaliers took over needing just 44 yards to tie the game.

After a 1-yard loss on the drive's first play, South's Nekhi Spencer made an incredible 30-yard reception and a major defensive pass interference call set up South at the Whitehall 6-yard line.

Ron Blake, who fumbled twice in the first quarter, barreled into the end zone to tie the game.

All South needed to do was hit the extra-point field goal.

But where onside kicks were a specialty all season, extra points were a rarity.

Whitehall blocked the kick. The thundering crowd fell silent.

A brief pause gave teams a breather before overtime, during which South assistant coach Ed Shanley spoke with McClosky. South won the coin toss and elected to defend.

"Coach Shanley ... said, 'Bobby, like, you're a smart player, you know thatthey're going to throwagain. Get that pick and seal the game,'" McClosky said. "I went to cover a slant and the ball was just right there, like magic."

A few plays later, it was all over.McClosky found Bulay again this time with his arm instead of his foot and South won its district title.

The District 11 championship, South's fifth overall and first since 2018, holds extra sentimental value for South after it missed the opportunity to compete in playoffs last year due to COVID-19. With a dominant senior core, South appeared poised to win a championship in 2020.

South's seniors coming into 2021 had a chip on their shoulder, McClosky said. After playing most of their football careers in the shadowof the class before them, McClosky said he and his teammates were determined to prove they could be just as good.

Blake said after South's semifinals win over Wyoming Valley West that the team came into the playoffs this year looking for vengeance. After missing out last year's district tournament, Blake said the team was extra hungry to compete.

South will play next Friday against District 10 championErie Cathedral Prep in the first round of the PIAA tournament. Five-time state champions, the Ramblers will enter the match against South as winners of seven consecutive District 10 titles.

"I couldn't be more proud that these kids are finally in the limelight," Walters said after the championship win. "They deserve the most dramatic comeback ending in district championship history. They deserve that."

Guilty Gear Strive’s Third DLC Character Teased, Will Be Revealed This Weekend – Push Square

Posted: at 11:12 am

Guilty Gear Strive is still meant to be getting its third DLC character before the year is out, and it looks like the identity of this mysterious fighter will be revealed over the coming weekend.

In fact, it's a big weekend for fighting games in general. Red Bull Gaming's Red Bull Kumite is happening over the next couple of days in Las Vegas, with invitational tournaments for Guilty Gear Strive, Tekken 7, and Street Fighter V. It's going to be one of the first major live fighting game events to take place since the coronavirus pandemic began.

Anyway, Arc System Works has teased the new character on Twitter. All we have to go on is a rather amorphous silhouette, so of course everyone's already speculating over who it could be. Some reckon it might be Slayer or Testament both returning Guilty Gear characters. Others are adamant that it's going to be Happy Chaos a new character who appears in Strive's story mode.

Album: Damon Albarn – The Nearer The Fountain, More Pure The Stream Flows – The Arts Desk

The deliberate austerity of its predecessor, Everyday Robots (2014), was shown when accompanying, full-band gigs revealed the bright pop song finery beneath the albums bleak camouflage. Where others go solo to satisfy band-cramped egos, solo Damon is a place of anticlimax and indirection, where his gift for melody is befogged and hazy.

The Nearer The Fountain, More Pure The Stream Flows began as an orchestral project inspired by Albarns sometime Reykjavik home, played by Icelandic musicians. The cheap, irritant pulse of a Casiotone drum-machine betrays its homemade, lockdown finish. The title is a line by John Clare, the working-class Romantic poet whose early enraptured accord with rural rhythms became so fractured he was committed to an asylum in Albarns native Essex; a Syd Barrett-style walk back to his Northamptonshire home has added to his sanctity as an artist of the brokenly beautiful, lonely and lost. The title track is accordingly infused with mourning and wistful remembrances. Couched in Clares antique language, its sluggish and near-numb with loss, inspired by the death of Albarns friend and bandmate, the great drummer Tony Allen.

The following track, The Cormorant, updates Seventies Bowies influence on Nineties Blur to the shivery end-games of The Next Day and Blackstar. Inspired by a bird hed see daily on the Devon coast near his home studio, Albarns voice takes on Bowies theatrical quaver and latter-day, wounded wooziness as he recounts days when we were happy here, on the beach/We played with our children... An uncharted cruise ship floats by the songs island battered Albion, here as desolate as Rockall. By the end of Royal Morning Blues, its uptempo funk brass has evaporated like morning mist, leaving him aching for company at the end of the world. Daft Wader comes closest to the bittersweet anthems Blur conjured in such terrain, observing a Lancelot in his beaten up old car; Particles, too, with its relatively fulsome romantic plea: I have cried for you, darling/Are you coming back to me?

The Tower of Motevideo speaks directly to lockdowns state of exile, already fading now, its lessons unlearned. Once there were cinemas, and we had parties, Albarn murmurs, as music and footsteps become phantoms, and a sax soars in an empty Argentine ballroom.

This is an insular and hypnotic, intimate yet distant album, lapped by literal, musique concrete waves. The frayed strands of melodic beauty Albarn allows into his solo retreat are themselves ghostly, reaching out to touch the listener from the hermetic place where the former Britpop king conducts his private experiments, like Dr. Dee, or Robinson Crusoe.
