Letters: A funny thing happened on the way to political correctness – Lincoln Courier

Posted: April 28, 2017 at 3:13 pm

Dear Editor,

Political correctness is everywhere.A national humanist group brought a lawsuit against the school alleging that a family with children in that school is being discriminated against because their children are atheists and the words, under God are discriminatory against them and all other atheist children. The American Humanist Association is an advocacy organization based in Washington, D.C. and on behalf of the family in question has filed a suit in a state court demanding the words under God be stricken from the Pledge of Allegiance.

The American Humanist Association maintains the words added have marginalized atheist and humanist kids as something less than ideal patriots. In fact, the atheist organization insist that those two words brings the state and school district in direct violation of the states constitutional right to equal protection. The organizations attorney stated the schools should not allow the Pledge with such egregious words in them because it constitutes an exercise that teaches students that patriotism is tied to a belief in God. The attorney continued to say, Such a daily exercise portrays atheist and humanist children as second-class citizens, and certainly contributes to anti-atheist prejudices.

Of course the attorney speaking for the school district stated that even though the state law requires the Pledge be recited daily, individual students may choose not to participate if they so wish. The school district attorney stated, The district is merely following a state law that requires schools to have a daily recitation of the pledge. He continued, We are disappointed that this national organization has targeted Matawan-Aberdeen for merely obeying the law as it stands.

This is such an interesting play on the political correctness and the absurdity of trying to turn around a decades-old practice to suit the preferences of those who do not believe in God.

Just for fun, lets say that the atheist group is right and their being offended by the utterance of the two words, under God somehow makes their atheist children less patriotic. If the court decides to feel their pain and decree the two words be stricken from the Pledge, by logic wouldnt the sameoffensebe perpetrated against those children who have been practicing those words each day be violated in much the same way. So the American Humanist Association has no qualms about foisting that same offensive practice of saying the Pledge without the two words that have been spoken by students of at least four generations during the past several decades? By having the pain of discrimination lifted from their shoulders they, in turn, would have the courts plant that same pain of discrimination on the shoulders of the many more tens of thousands of people who do believe in the words under God?

When will we all, as a group of Americans, come to realize that this thing we call political correctness is not only discrimination against another group, but it establishes a double standard of operation that is more often than not a discrimination against the majority of people holding the disputed belief?

Worshipping on altar of political correctness – CapeGazette.com

In a letter dated April 21, Arthur E. Sowers was critical of my defense of state senators Lawson and Bonini for recently walking out of the room when an opening prayer was offered by two Muslims. In his letter, Mr. Sowers charged that my defense was a "spurious cop-out."

If my defense is the "spurious cop-out" that Mr. Sowers has charged, then it should be a simple thing for him to point out my errors in either facts or logic. This would be a welcome change from the contents of his letter, which consisted only of his own opinions, and attempts to deflect the issue from Islam to Christianity. I challenge Mr. Sowers to point to the factual and logical errors of my argument. For his convenience, and for the reader's as well, I include my defense of senators Lawson and Bonini below.

Bonini and Lawson not only had the right to walk out when a Muslim prayer was being offered, if they knew the teachings of Islam, they actually had a moral obligation to do so. The real shame is that more lawmakers did not join them.

At its core Islam is, and always has been, a religion of conquest and violence. Devoted Muslims have created a history of evil that stretches out for over a thousand years, as they continually seek to convert, conquer or kill all unbelievers. Just this past Palm Sunday, Egyptian Christians were murdered when they gathered for worship.

Are there some good people who profess to be Muslims? Yes, there are many people who embrace Islam in a casual way, just as there are many people claiming to be Christians, who do not actually follow the teachings of Jesus Christ. However, (and here is the problem) there are also many Muslims who devote themselves to the barbaric teachings of their religion.

Regardless what deluded leftists, who worship at the altar of political correctness, would have you believe, anyone who wants to know the truth about Islam can easily find it. A good place to start is with the website: http://www.thereligionofpeace.com.

Michael Goodwin: Political correctness is killing our terror strategy (not the terrorists) – Fox News

Agunman opens fire in Paris, killing one police officerand wounding two. Islamic State quicklyclaims responsibility, naming the gunman as a soldier of the caliphate.

The savage attack is the latest of many in Paris, understandably sparking widespread fears of terrorism. But some Parisians desperately seek convenient explanations that will let them avoid the necessary conflict.

Is it because weve joined forces and joined a coalition in Iraq and Syria against Islamic State? one businessman asked on Paris television.

Ah, a perfectly French reaction. If only the country had been nicer to Islamic State, it wouldnt have this problem. Right, and if only the French had been nicer to Herr Hitler, he would have left them alone.

Yet the habit of ducking a fight with evil is not limited to the French, with some Americans also infected. Appeasement here is expressed as fears that Frances unwashed masses might actually vote to do something about terrorism in Sundays presidential election.

Trump Discussed Political Correctness and the ‘Counterproductive’ EPA With the Right’s Favorite Celebrities – New York Magazine

Ad will collapse in seconds CLOSE April 20, 2017 04/20/2017 1:00 pm By Adam K. Raymond Share Say, Lock her up.

For the first time since he moved in, President Trump looked genuinely happy in the White House as he posed for a photo in the Oval Office with three wealthy celebrities whove crafted images as gunslinging, beer-drinking avatars of the working class.

Ted Nugent, Kid Rock, and Sarah Palin joined Trump at the White House Wednesday for an unannounced dinner that was revealed Thursday morning by a stream of social-media posts by Palin and Nugent. They ate lobster and lamb, discussed making America great again, and mocked Hillary Clinton.

While Palin shared only pictures from the trip, Nugent, who once suggested that President Obama fellate a machine gun, provided some details about what he and Trump discussed, in a blog post for the website Deer & Deer Hunting.

We discussed specifically the counterproductive follies of the Endangered Species Act and the Environmental Protection Agency, as well as the US Fish & Wildlife Service, BLM and other out of control bureaucracies.

In a Facebook Live video Thursday morning, Nugent added that he was invited to the White House by Trump himself. I was moved by the genuine sincerity, down-to-earth and most importantly believable concern and openness, uninhibitedness, family attitude, and spirit of President Trump when he greeted us at the White House, he said.

It was down to earth and absolutely human, Nugent added, as he and his wife, an ambassador for healthy living, flew home on a private jet to be with their dogs.

Kid Rock, who sold shirts last year suggesting that Trumps D was in the mouths of his haters, hasnt yet provided any social-media updates on the trip. His latest post is about how he prefers to smoke homegrown weed.

Political Correctness Backfires: Father of Deceased Files Lawsuit Against UT-Arlington – Liberty News Now

Posted: at 12:57 am

After being accused of sexual misconduct and facing punishment by the university without fair trial, Thomas Klocke committed suicide, according to a lawsuit by his father.

Thomas Klocke, a student at the University of Texas at Arlington, killed himself on June 2, a few days after the university punished him for allegedly making anti-gay comments to a fellow gay student. 24-year-old Klocke repeatedly denied the accusations at that time and claimed he was the one being harassed but never received a fair hearing.

This is a case that highlights the really epidemic problem that were seeing across the country about what happens when a college violates the legal rights of a student whos been accused of misconduct, said Kenneth Chaiken, an attorney for the deceaseds father, Wayne Klocke. The accused student can really suffer life-altering consequences in this case of the most tragic form, which was the decision to take his own life.

Under the pretext of Title IX, the Obama administration forced universities to deny male students their due process rights when theyre accused of sexual misconduct.

The lawsuit was reported by Watchdog.org and alleges that UT-Arlington was unsuccessful in complying with the watered-down due process protections ensured by Title IX and judged on its own policies. It also claims that Thomas was the one discriminated against on the basis of his sex.

A spokesperson for the university, Teresa Schnyder said the university followed its policies and procedures. However, she refused to give any details regarding the lawsuit.

This is a tragic situation and we express our deepest condolences to the family for their loss, Ms. Schnyder said. The welfare of our students is our highest priority. Any loss is a heartbreaking one for our entire community.

Thomas was only one credit short of graduating at the time of the incident. Fellow student Nicholas Watson accused him of typing gays should die on the web browser of his laptop in the middle of a May 19 class. Mr. Watson then responded on his own laptop, typing, Im gay. To this, Mr. Watson says, Thomas faked a yawn and said, Well then youre a ft.

Following this exchange of words, Mr. Watson says he asked Thomas to leave the classroom, to which Thomas allegedly replied, You should consider killing yourself.

Thomas refuted these claims in a meeting with a university administrator on May 23. He explained that Mr. Watson made sexual advances, stared at him continuously and called him beautiful, even after he typed into his laptop, stop Im straight. Thomas says he had a hard time concentrating after that and moved to the opposite side of the classroom.

He rejected Mr. Watsons allegations that he ever typed gays should die.

The lawsuit alleges that the rejected sexual advances may have compelled Mr. Watson to make up the story, possibly fearing the universitys policy against sexual harassment. In addition to the lawsuit against the university, Nicholas Watson is also being sued for defamatory statements.

Ted Nugent: Trump discussed how political correctness ‘has wrecked everything it has touched’ – The Hill (blog)

Posted: April 21, 2017 at 2:30 am

Ted Nugent and President Trump discussed how "political correctness has wrecked everything it has touched" during a dinner at the White House, the musician said.

In a blog post for "Deer & Deer Hunting," Nugent praised Trump as an everyman committed to fighting "status quo political correctness" and "power abusing bureaucrats" who oppose hunting regulations.

"We discussed various quality of life issues and how entrenched status quo political correctness has wrecked everything it has touched and how his administration is focused and dedicated to get back to the U.S. Constitutional basics of government of, by and for the people," Nugent wrote.

Nugent, a vocal opponent of gun control and hunting regulations, backed Trump early on in his 2016 presidential bid.

After his dinner Wednesday night with the president, which included former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and musician Kid Rock, Nugent wrote that he believes Trump is on the right track, lauding his "America First" policies and his proposals to slash environmental regulations.

"When his administrations battlecry[sic] is 'America first' you know we are on the right track after a long and embarrassing disconnect by the political posers who forgot they worked for us instead of vice versa," he wrote.

On the campaign trail, Trump railed against what he deemed out-of-control political correctness and assailed federal environmental rules and laws, accusing such measures of eliminating jobs.

The United States culture wars take center stage when Louisiana Techs department of history continues its annual International Affairs Speaker Series at 11:30 a.m. April 21 in Wyly Tower Auditorium.

Dr. Lora Burnett, a historian from the University of Texas at Dallas, will deliver a lecture, Toward a Correct History of Political Correctness.'

The event is free and open to the public.

Burnetts talk will draw upon her research and writing on the culture wars in the United States since the 1960s. As an intellectual historian, Burnett has explored clashes on college campuses over a range of issues from free speech to trigger warnings to the design of history curriculum. Her forthcoming book, Canon Wars: The 1980s Western Civ Debates at Stanford and the Triumph of Neoliberalism in Higher Education, brings a critical historians eye to a conflict Burnett witnessed firsthand as an undergraduate at Stanford University.

We are excited to have Dr. Burnett provide our students with a historical perspective on issues deeply important to them, said Andrew C. McKevitt, an assistant professor of history and coordinator of the International Affairs series. Students are often curious in class to talk about controversial topics like safe spaces and trigger warnings, but they fail to recognize that these are not inventions of their own generation but rather linked to larger debates going back decades about political correctness on college campuses.

Burnett received the Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Dallas, where she serves as the 2017-2018 Teaching Fellow in History. She has a B.A. in English from Stanford University. She is an active contributor to the U.S. Intellectual History Blog, a vibrant website that has been at the center of the revitalization of the study of the intellectual history of the United States.

The International Affairs Speaker Series is sponsored by the Louisiana Tech department of history and the Lambda-Rho Chapter of the Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society.

Student government again rejects political correctness, votes to keep Aztec mascot – The College Fix

Student government again rejects political correctness, votes to keep Aztec mascot

The decision was a close one last evening, but the Associated Students University Council at San Diego State University opted to keep the Aztec mascot and name for the school.

The Daily, er, Aztec reports the vote was 14-12.

The four voting members of the A.S. executive board voted to retain the Aztec, as did College of Business Representative Ben Delbick who noted the reasons for his vote were primarily economic: it would become necessary to replace millions of dollars worth of Aztec-branded equipment and merchandise.

He also was concerned about alumni possibly withholding donations.

SDSU lecturerOzzie Monge, who wanted to get rid of the mascot, noted the vote this time around was much better thantwo and a half years ago when itwas a lopsided25to 1.

Two months ago, the schools Native American Student Alliance held an event Why Do You Have To Make It About Race? Because Our Mascot Is An Aztec to enlighten people as to why the mascot is racist.

From the story:

[Monge] compared the failed mascot resolution to a resolution condemning anti-Semitism, which the University Council approved April 12.

Its disappointing to see that theres some inconsistency in who gets valued, and whose rights get valued, Monge said. But thats not surprising because were dealing with something that has been commonly believed in for so long, without question.

He compared the resolution vote to asking white southerners for a referendum on ending Jim Crow laws in the 1960s. Such a referendum would likely have failed, but that would not have made the decision just, he said.

Thats why the talk of majorities and numbers is wrong, Monge said. The debate should have been principles and values. And none of that came up.

MORE:Common sense prevails: SDSU rejects bid to boot Aztec mascot

He said he will continue his opposition to the use of the Aztec mascot.

Ill still be here, he said. Ill still be educating. Well do it again.

Following the A.S. University Councils decision, 10 A.S. members resigned from their positions.

A.S. members Gass Hersi, Samantha Ledesma, Asha Abdirahim, Ozair Purmul, Chloe Sension, Mustafa Alemi, Halima Eid, Brie Hornig, Farris Nabulsi, and Arnelle Sambile stepped down from their positions immediately after the vote.

Alemi said he resigned because he does not believe A.S. supports students of color the way it supports other students.

I want people to just own it, he said. Just say you dont want to change the mascot, (you) dont give a damn if its racist. Dont try and cloud it as if theyre making some moral decision or some ethical decision.

Before the previous (25-1) mascot vote in late 2014, SDSUspokesperson Natalia Elko had said the school mascot accurately portrays Aztec culture and history.

Nearly 10,000 students voted, setting a new SDSU record for a student referendum and endorsing the proposed mascot by more than a 3:1 ratio, according to the universitys website. More than 4,700 Alumni Association and Aztec Athletic Foundation members voted in their referendum, with more than 88 percent of voters backing the mascot.

Political correctness and blurring of the truth – Canada Free Press

Posted: at 2:30 am

Here we go again with the Political correctness and blurring of the truth. A person with the last name of Muhammed, shot 3 people in Fresno California. He was reportedly heard to shout Allahu Akbar. But will we label this terrorism. Nope, its a hate crime. Obviously, killing 3 white people because you hate white people represents hate. It also appears to represent Islamic extremism thus terrorism.

Does the media or law enforcement think the public is fooled because they call it a hate crime rather than terrorism. News flash-we arent. Killing people is both hate and terrorism. And, guess what, places like Chicago are terrorized by gangs. Many of those killings are terrorists acts, just different terrorists.

We need to wipe out lawlessness in this country before we are all the way back to the days of the wild west. Secure our borders, enforce our laws, put people to work, fix our ghettos, and lift up the downtrodden. Until we make the necessary social changes crimes like these will continue, regardless of the label.
