Donald Trump Slams His Own Justice Department Over Travel Ban ‘Political Correctness’ – Mediaite

Posted: June 5, 2017 at 7:31 am

In a furious early morning tweet storm, President Donald Trump took on his own justice department, suggesting that it should have defended his original travel ban to the Supreme Court rather than offer what he called the watered down politically correct version.

He also offered some pointed advice to the department, headed by his close ally, former Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions.

Theres a lot of other stuff to unpack here as well. As both CNN and MSNBC immediately began crowing, the tweets also put to rest any terminological confusion over whether or not it was a travel ban. During a Januarypress briefing, Sean Spicer pointedly said it was not and that the president had only been parroting the media.

Its not the first time Trump has gone after his own allies either. The president even slammed his own Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch (someone who hes going to need soon) after the Justice suggested he shouldnt personally attack the federal judiciary.

Politically correct phrases hide meaning, truth – The Wilson Times (subscription)

Politically correct phrases hide meaning, truth The term political correctness is being tossed about these days. Just what is political correctness? To some, it is a way of describing something in less emotional terms. To others, it is a way of saying something that would in time change individuals outlook on the topic being described. To still others, it is a way of not focusing on the facts or truth that surrounds the item being described.

Political correctness isnt a new phenomenon, it has been around for decades. Politicians have used political correctness as a way to avoid discussing difficult subjects by phrasing them in different terms or phrases.

Today, political correctness has transplanted itself from the political arena into organizations and groups outside of politics. These groups are using political correctness much the same way politicians have used it for centuries. They are hiding their true agenda by presenting difficult topics in terms they feel are more palatable to the citizenry.

The use of political correctness is having a major impact on the society of the United States. Because of the use of political correctness, many of the uneducated and ill-informed are confused. Our politicians and outside groups and organizations are hiding the true condition of our economy, our government and our country. Rather than identifying the situation in plain language for the citizenry, they are using non-descriptive terms to describe potentially dangerous situations!

Political correctness has migrated from the political arena to the public arena. The use of political correctness is becoming dangerous. If you cannot describe something in plain language for the common, everyday citizen, then dont confuse us with the gobbledygook of political correctness!

Alabama Won’t Let ‘Political Correctness’ Destroy Its Confederate Monuments – VICE

Posted: May 30, 2017 at 2:33 pm

It doesn't look like Alabama will be getting rid of its Confederate monuments anytime soon. Rather than join New Orleans in tearing down the symbols, Governor Kay Ivey signed legislation this week aimed at protecting that state's statues from being taken down, including one at the capitol, the Hill reports.

The GOP-backed bill, which was sponsored by State Senator Gerald Allen, would block local municipalities from removing any public statue that's stood for at least 40 years. It would also prohibit anyone from changing the name of any public school that's been around for four decades. According to the Hill, the new law will protect nine standing confederate monuments in the state.

The call for Southern states to remove their existing Confederate imagery ramped up after a self-proclaimed white supremacist gunned down nine black church parishioners in Charleston, South Carolina, in 2015. Since then, a few Southern states have removed the Confederate flag from their state houses and license plates, but the fight to bring down monuments remains heated.

City workers received death threats before taking down four monuments in New Orleans in recent weeks, and a bunch of people brought torches to protest the removal of a Robert E. Lee statue in Virginia earlier this month. One Republican lawmaker in Mississippia state that features the stars and bars on its state flagsaid this week that people removing the monuments "should be lynched."

Many lawmakers, civil rights advocates, and regular citizens see the monuments and flags as offensive reminders of America's shameful racist past.

"These monuments purposefully celebrate a fictional, sanitized Confederacy; ignoring the death, ignoring the enslavement, and the terror that it actually stood for," New Orleans mayor Mitch Landrieu said in a speech following the city's monument removal. "To literally put the Confederacy on a pedestal in our most prominent places of honor is an inaccurate recitation of our full past, it is an affront to our present, and it is a bad prescription for our future."

But in Alabama, lawmakers like Gerald Allen apparently care more about ending what he's called a "wave of political correctness" currently making its way around the country.

"Where does it end?" Allen asked. "Are all parts of American history subject to purging, until every Ivy League professor is satisfied and the American story has been re-written as nothing but a complete fraud and a betrayal of our founding values of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness?"

In a stunning upset, the nine-member jury led by Spanish director Pedro Almodovar and including Hollywood stars Jessica Chastain and Will Smith awarded the trophy to the movies director, Ruben Ostlund.

Oh my God, oh my God! Ostlund shouted from the stage after besting a raft of favourites for one of global cinemas most coveted honours.

In a 70th anniversary edition marked by raging debate over sexism in the movie industry, Sofia Coppola became only the second woman in history to win best director for her battle-of-the-sexes thriller The Beguiled with Nicole Kidman and Colin Farrell.

Kidman, who appeared in four different projects at the festival, accepted a special 70th anniversary award from the jury.

Diane Kruger clinched best actress for her first film role in her native German as a devastated mother who has lost her family in a Hamburg terror attack, in Fatih Akins In the Fade.

I cannot accept this award without thinking of everyone who has been touched by an act of terrorism you have not been forgotten, the clearly moved actress said.

Three-time Oscar nominee Joaquin Phoenix nabbed best actor for his turn as a hammer-wielding hitman in the ultraviolent thriller You Were Never Really Here.

Any work that I did was linked to the work of Lynne Ramsay, the films British director, Phoenix said, before apologising for his tuxedo-and-trainers look at the gala ceremony.

I dont wear leather, the committed vegetarian explained.

So much courage

Greeces Yorgos Lantimos shared the best screenplay award with Ramsay for The Killing of a Sacred Deer, an icy thriller set in a wealthy American suburb and starring Kidman and Farrell.

The runner-up Grand Prix went to moving French drama 120 Beats Per Minute about the radical activists who helped shame the world into action on AIDS.

This film is an homage to those who died but also those who survived and are still alive, who had so much courage, said the movies director, former ACT UP member Robin Campillo.

Campillo also wrote the screenplay for The Class, a drama about a multicultural Paris high school that scooped the Palme dOr in 2008 as well as an Oscar nomination.

Loveless by Andrey Zvyagintsev, a wrenching drama about moral rot eating away at Russian society under Vladimir Putin, took the third place jury prize.

Magic of big screen

The Square, coming in at two hours and 20 minutes, is an often hilarious art world satire exploring creative liberty, free speech and the blurred lines between the sexes.

Danish actor Claes Bang plays a museum director and divorced father of two young daughters who finds himself in an increasingly absurd set of predicaments.

The movie features Elisabeth Moss (Mad Men) and Dominic West (The Wire) in small roles viciously lampooning the self-important art world.

One set-piece featuring a wild, bare-chested man performing as an ape wreaking havoc at a posh gala dinner entered festival legend.

Cannes 12 days of screenings and celebrity-packed soirees which were somewhat muted by the Manchester bombing were marked by unprecedented anti-terror measures and a raging row over how technology is shaping the future of the movie industry.

Netflix had two movies in competition for the first time but faced blowback from critics who argue that online streaming is destroying cinema distribution and with it the magic of the big-screen experience.

Terrorism, fascism, political correctness, and sexual violence: Four Horsemen of the Left – Canada Free Press

Fascist leftism, a death cult embedded in a Democratic Party

It has been more than a quarter century since social workers in Rotherham, England and elsewhere began reporting that young women and girls were being groomed (i.e. drugged, beaten, raped, threatened with death) and then pimped out by ethnic minority (i.e. Islamic) taxi drivers living in their community. The girls were beaten and worse if they tried to escape. Some were murdered.

Easy Meat: Inside Britains Grooming Gang Scandal, is a hard book to read, but it should be required reading. Maybe universities and colleges could make it their social-consciousness-raising community read for the beginning of next school year.

And maybe hell will also freeze over.

In Rotherham, the few social workers not already seduced into senselessness by the daddy pimp of them allSir Political Correctnesswere quickly schooled by their superiors to look the other wayaway from evidence of child rapeor lose their jobs.

The same government bureaucrats who suppressed the social workers also shut down the blogs being written by brave policemen who were trying to warn the public about the perverse takeover of policing by Sir PC and company.

With no First Amendment to protect them, and with hate speech laws spreading like a mental black plague, the police bloggers never stood a chance. See here and here for other police accounts of the effect of identity politics on police work.

Amassed against the police who wished to treat everyone, you know, equally, were globalist multiculturalists, academicians, politicians, preening media, and other gilded birds in gilded high rises successfully imposing a racial regime that would make a Victorian phrenologist blush.

Police blogging was merely the last, impotent line of defense for the wrong types of victims victimized by the wrong types of criminals.

Once the police blogs were forcibly silenced, the girls of Rotherham, and, in fact, all of Britain was on its own. The lights went out, to Winston Churchill and Mark Steyn. Always before the lights go out, speech is silenced.

As leftists in America shut down free speech on college campuses across Americaand they wont stop at college campusestake lessons from that, as you will.

Officially, the pimped-out girls of Rotherham were extra-legally deemed guilty of being raped while white. Officially, their rapists were extra-legally deemed innocent of child rape and pimping on the grounds of being rapists while minority.

This is precisely the deadly calculus of identity politics as it has played out in law enforcement for 50 years now, for half a century, for the entire time Bill Cosby, for example, has been drugging and molesting starlets and student coaches and supermodels.

Bill Cosby may sneer that it is racism that motivated the belated charges of sexual assault against him, but he is only half right. It is indeed racismracism against his victims and on his behalfthat enabled him to get away with sexually abusing woman after woman for decades with no consequences. What woman, black or white (and Cosbys victims span the color spectrum) would be stupid enough to come forward and report being raped by Americas black dad?

Whether you are a poor white child in foster care in a slum in England being passed around by a gang of Pakistani thugs or a high-class, black supermodel being drugged and molested by Americas funniest black man, political correctness dictates that you will be held responsible for the rape visited upon your body because black males cant possibly be held responsible for the rapes they commit because they are black males.

Meet the new lynch mob. Its no different from the old lynch mob, except its not called a lynch mob anymore: its called justice.

And so when an ethnic minority man detonates a bomb at a teenyboppers concert, why do politicians even bother to denounce the violence? They, after all, are the ones responsible for the body count. They are the ones who tied the hands of the real police and turned policing itself into thought policing of non-terrorists. They are the ones who shut down public discourse about immigration and terrorism. They are the ones who purged from decent society anyone who dared to voice what everyone is thinking, all the time now: what if we could go back to the time when women could walk the streets unmolested and little girls could grow into women without being turned out by throngs of hate-filled Islamists treating them like discarded bags of meat, to quote one prominent imam?

What if England could go back to being England, where Winnie the Pooh was the concern of 10-year-old girls, not how many sex acts they would need to perform in order to avoid being beaten by their pimps as the pimps showered them with anti-Christian, anti-female, anti-England hate speech, which is the only flavor of hate speech allowed these days. Heck, such speech is practically a sacrament in some circles, including official ones.

What if England could go back to the days of the Beatles, when the only danger one faced at a concert was the danger of going a bit deaf from the hysterical screams of teenyboppers screaming, not in horror at watching their chums limbs being torn from their bodies, but screaming with joy at the harmless pleasure of being a teenage girl with a crush on a boy band?

Not only dont these things exist anymore in England: the right to talk about them doesnt exist anymore either.

And it can happen here. The leftist mobs attacking conservative speakers on college campuses; the unpunished hate crime hoaxes; the medias dishonest trumpeting of this or that imaginary rising tide of white supremacist hate; their dishonest participation in burying the real hate hoaxes; their decades-long cover-up of violent crime committed by minoritiesall this isnt mere proto-fascism: it is full-blown fascism.

Terrorism, fascism, and political correctness are frequent fellow travelers with sexual violence. How better to suppress and render docile half the population than by threatening them sexually? And how much easier is this when the predators have the ace in their pockets of special exemption from culpability for their crimes because of their ethnicity or race?

New York Citys Puerto Rican Day parade used to be notorious for acts of wilding and whirlpooling, in other words, gang sexual attacks committed against women unlucky enough to happen upon the throngs of males who felt entitled to grab and molest any woman in their path.

Just like the police in Rotherham, the police monitoring the Puerto Rican Day Parade were told to shut up and stand down in the face of those sexual assaults because the offenders were ethnic minority men, and you cant blame ethnic minority men for committing sexual violence.

This year, in addition to the usual unmentionable sexual threats, the Puerto Rican Day parade is honoring a leftist terrorist just released from prison by Barack Obama. So first, Obama spat in the face of the police and civilians murdered by Oscar Lopez Rivera by springing Rivera from prison, and next, Mayor Bill de Blasio is excitedly marching with Rivera in a parade with a reputation for gross sexual abuse of women.

Maybe Hillary Clinton isnt the Democratic Partys biggest optics problem after all.

Bill Ayers, Obamas unrepentant terrorist mentor, also has a history of sexual perversion and sexual violence that doesnt seem to bother the types of people who honor him, such as the universities granting him tenure and speaking honoraria and the dumb bunny grade school teachers who elected him to run curricular studies for the largest K-12 teachers professional organization in the United States, the American Educational Research Association. If merely trying to blow up cops and soldiers and civilians were not enough for the collective idiots who teach your children, one would hope that Ayerss sexual history might give them pause, but apparently it never did.

Back in the Weathermen days, Ayers was known for arranging inter-racial re-education sex sessions to punish white females for being white females. Such stories were hardly uncommon throughout the civil rights era. When I was researching the feminist movement of the 1960s and early 1970s in university archives, I found scores of similar stories by female civil rights workers who were forced to degrade themselves sexuallyoften in publicto make up for societal prejudice against black men. And female civil rights workers of all races were also pressured to keep quiet when they were raped by black men, a not uncommon occurrence.

There is a direct line from Rotherham to raped-and-silenced civil rights workers to Bill Cosby grousing that hes the real victim of his sexual exploits that literally dozens of women have called rape. Theres a direct line between Al Sharpton literally trying to lynch a white gang rape victim by inciting a crowd to attack the police van transporting her to the courthouse and Al Sharpton being invited to the White House and being honored at Democratic Party conventions and being given a show on MSNBC. There is a direct line between police being silenced in Britain if they tell the truth about sexual abuse of girls by minority men and police being told to stand down as women get gang-raped in broad daylight at the Puerto Rican Day parade, a parade that is now honoring a terrorist on sidewalks dusted not so long ago with the pulverized bones of other American victims of terrorism.

The direct line between all these things is fascist leftism, a death cult embedded in a Democratic Party so cynical about its own acceptance of some sexual violence and some terrorism that no person who identifies as a Democrat can possibly look in the mirror and honestly confront themselves about such things.

And when you cant acknowledge your own culpability in the death cult within your own political party, theres only one thing left to do: outlaw any speech that tells the truth about it.

How Trump Affected Political Correctness – The American Interest

Posted: at 7:46 am

A major themethe major theme?of Donald Trumps 2016 campaign for the presidency was his relentless assault on socially-enforced standards of speech and opinionthat those on the Right tend to refer to aspolitical correctness and those on the Left tend to refer to as politeness or propriety. And a new paper from the National Bureau of Economics Researchsuggests that thisassault was at least partlysuccessful: By updating peoples preferences about the popularity of anti-immigration views, Trumps unexpected victory made people more willing to express anti-immigration views publicly than they were before Election Day.

The authors (Leonardo Bursztyn of the University of Chicago, Georgy Egorov of Northwestern, and Stefano Fiorin of UCLA) summarize their methodology like this: In the run-up to the2016 election, they offered subjects a dollarif they authorized the researchers to make a donation to a strongly anti-immigration organization on their behalf. Some of the participants were told that their donation would be anonymous. Others were told that they researchers mightask them about their decision later. Those who thought their donation would be anonymous were significantly more likely to authorize it than those who thought they might need to discuss it in the future, suggest(ing) the presence of social stigma associated with the action. After the election, however, this social stigma disappeared; people were just as likely to authorize a donation to an anti-immigrant group even if they were not assured that the donation would be anonymous.

Its not that Trumps election increased anti-immigration sentiment, the authors sayit just made peoplealready inclined toward restrictionism feel less of a need to conceal their preferences.

Regardless of whether Trump actuallybuilds a wall or successfully gets his travelban through the court system, it seems that hisrhetoric has created a fundamental shift in the way Americans talk (or dont talk) about immigration policyand probably other sensitive issues, as well. That the president survived the Access Hollywood tape, the Megyn Kelly feud, and his remarks about the Khans (to give a few examples)might have also had anemperor has no clothes effect oncertain social taboos.

In some ways, the Trump effect on P.C. has probably been positive. To the extent that critiquesof the elite consensus on immigration and globalization and social liberalism had becomeoff-limits, creating a stifling and anti-democratic environment where people were afraid to even express their concernslest they be ostracized and condemned by their social betters, it is healthy that Trumps election loosened limitations on acceptable discourse.

At the same time, civilization rests on a certain set of social norms, which are far more powerful than laws in shaping behavior. If everyone made all of their private opinions publicif dinner guests always told the host how they really feltabout the food, if drivers always shared withpolice their opinions on being pulled over,if Supreme Court justices announced that their opinions were based as much on guesswork and intuition as the text of the Constitutionmany of our institutions would work less well. Moreover, when informal norms erode, blunter tools like laws and bureaucratic codes have a tendency of taking their place.

So even as Trump has made some debates more openby taking a wrecking ball to political correctness, there is also a legitimate concern thathis freewheeling rhetorical style hasunearthed some demons, as the Republican Rep. Mark Sanford put itto theWashington Post.Ive talked to a number of people about it back home. They say, Well, look, if the president can say whatever, why cant I say whatever? Hes given them license. That is not cause for celebration. The Presidents election was a sign that prevailing social stigmas and taboos were unsustainable. The solution isnt to tear them down altogether, but to build new ones that are more broadly supported and in line with the interests of an open society.

In North Carolina NBA and Political Correctness Win – Church Militant

Posted: May 26, 2017 at 4:09 am

RALEIGH (ChurchMilitant.com) - The National Basketball Association (NBA) is announcing Charlotte, North Carolina will host the 2019 All-Star Game, after dropping the city from consideration in 2017 owing to the state's so-called transgender bathroom law.

Adam Silver, NBA commissioner, made the announcement at a press conference on May 24 that North Carolina could again host the 2019 All-Star Game since the highly-controversial House Bill 2 (HB2) was overturned in March 2017.

Passedin March 2016 by Republican Gov. Pat McCrory, HB2 mandated that so-called transgender people must use the bathroom coinciding with the sex on their birth certificate. It raised a massive uproar among LGBT activists, causing celebrities, businessesandlawmakersto boycott the state over "transphobia."

In July 2016, the NBA announced it was moving its 2017 All-Star game from Charlotte to New Orleans, Louisiana in protest against HB2.

McCrory lost re-election in December to Democrat Roy Cooper, who promised to overturn HB2. As attorney general under McCrory, Cooper commented that HB2 made the state a "national embarrassment" that "will set North Carolina's economy back if we don't repeal it." He even refused to represent North Carolina when the Obama administration threatened to file a lawsuit against the state.

In March 2017, Cooper repealed HB2 but instituted a bill that LBGT activists claim keeps the "worst part" of HB2 intact. He approved HB142, which critics suggest Cooper rammed through the state legislature, is more "restrictive" than HB2 ever was since it bans cities and localities from instituting transgender bathroom policies for nearly four years as opposed to 180 days legislated in HB2.

A critic with the Charlotte Observer called HB142 "[A] betrayal of the promises the governor made to the LGBT community and a doubling down on discrimination by Republican legislators who have backed it all along," adding it "literally does not do one thing to protect the LGBT community and locks in HB2's most basic and offensive provision."

Silver noted that critics of HB142 may have a point but noted it "eliminates the most egregious aspects of the prior law." He added that all businesses associated with the 2019 All-Star Game are required to "apply a set of equality principles to ensure that every All-Star event will proceed with open access and anti-discrimination policies."

People, however, are growing weary of having politics mixed into sports. It has been reported that ESPN has been losing millions of viewers over hyper-politicization of its sports coverage had laid off over 100 people including on-camera talent.

Texas Sheriff Blames Manchester Attack On Gun Laws And Political Correctness – HuffPost

Posted: at 4:09 am

Sheriff Tracy Murphree in Denton, Texas, isnt backing down from a Facebook rant that blamed Mondaysterrorist attack at a concert in Manchester, England, on gun control laws and political correctness.

I ran on a conservative Republican platform,he told the local CBS station. I dont think it should be any surprise to anyone.

Police in Manchester say the attack, which left 22 dead and dozens injured, was the work of a suicide bomber.

Murphree, however, pointed his finger in a number of other directions.

This is what happens when you disarm your citizens. When you open your borders without the proper vetting, he wrote on Facebook on Monday. When you allow political correctness to dictate how you respond to an enemy that wants to kill you.

Murphree, who has threatened to assault members of the transgender community for using the restroom, claimed the left wants to submit to an ideology that treats women as property, kills gays and women and christians with complete impunity.

Folks this is an enemy hell bent on killing you. Committed to forcing you to convert or die. This enemy will strap bombs to their own body and blow themselves up killing children. Im sick of it. You better wake up America. While you are distracted by the media and the crying of the left, Islamic Jihadist are among us and want to kill you. What will it take? This happening at a concert in Dallas or a school in Denton County? If we dont do something quick this country will die of political correctness and the fear that someones feelings may be hurt. It may very well be to late for Europe.

The comments drew a sharp response from the local chapter of the Council on AmericanIslamic Relations, which called it anIslamophobic rant.

We call on Sheriff Murphree to reaffirm his pledge, and that of his officers, to serve and protect all Denton County residents regardless of their faith, ethnicity or national origin, Nikiya Natale, the chapters civil rights director, wrote on Facebook. We are concerned that someone obligated to provide equal justice for all holds such inaccurate, stereotypical and divisive views.

And while some of Murphrees supporters agreed with his comments, other residents were disturbed by them.

I was shocked, Denton resident Sarah Gramblin told the local NBC station. I dont trust that hes going to treat everyone equally under the law, and that really worries me.

Murphree had called his earlier comments on assaulting transgender people in restrooms a mistake, told the NBC station that his post was directed at terrorists and not the Muslim community.

I stand by everything I said in that post, he added. Im not backing off any word of it.

Fired Marquette U. Professor Will Fight Court Ruling, ‘Political Correctness’ – The Cardinal Newman Society

Posted: at 4:09 am

In a new interview with The Cardinal Newman Society, Dr. John McAdams vowed to fight a courts ruling that upholds Marquette Universitys right to fire him for defending a students freedom to speak moral truths. McAdams also accused Marquette of embracing political correctness before its Catholic mission.

In a ruling early this month, Milwaukee County Circuit Court Judge David Hansher dismissed McAdams claims against the university. The tenured political science professor was fired after he publicly criticized a philosophy instructor for preventing one of her students from voicing disagreement with same-sex marriage in an ethics class. The university claims McAdams crossed a line, because the instructor was a graduate student and off limits from public criticism.

In his interview with the Newman Society, McAdams explained to the Newman Society that he has a long history of criticizing the University and sometimes other faculty members for events he finds contrary to Marquettes Catholic identity. He has been writing actively on his blog,Marquette Warrior, since 2005 and has drawn attention to numerous abuses of Catholic identity.

Although the university has claimed its Catholic identity is flourishing, a number of faculty and staff members haveexpressed concernabout Marquettes dwindling Catholic identity and instances of Catholic teaching being discouraged and even silenced.

If you look at the institution itself, anytime secular political correctness conflicts with Catholic teaching, they go with secular political correctness, McAdams said.

Others agree with him. The Louis Joliet Society, a group of alumni that supports renewed Catholic identity at Marquette, released a statement on its Facebookpageand posed the question: Why is it that academic freedom, the shield that has been used to protect heretical faculty (particularly tenured faculty) at Catholic colleges and universities for nearly 50 years, is now suddenly the sword used to slay a professor who has consistently and publically stood up for truth, academic integrity and authentic Catholic identity?

McAdams, who is being represented by the Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty, told the Newman Society that he will appeal the ruling.

Excerpts from McAdams interview with the Newman Society is below.

The Newman Society: Whats the next step for your case?

McAdams: Well appeal.

It wasnt a matter of a poor, green graduate student in her first class not knowing how to handle a discussion. It was an instructor who was simply intolerant of a certain viewpoint, who made it clear she would suppress it

The Newman Society: Considering the precedent, how are you feeling about the appeal?

McAdams: I fully expect to be vindicated by a higher court.

The Newman Society: What would you say is the state of Marquettes Catholic identity?

McAdams: Its little more than a marketing ploy.

You can find online the religious views of freshmen coming in. I think its still the case that a majority are Catholic, although not all of them.

Theres nothing wrong with a non-Catholic attending a Catholic university, but thats relevant because the average freshman coming in is going to have more Catholics as cohorts than they would at a state-run university today. On the other hand, not all Catholics are particularly serious Catholics, just as not all Protestants are particularly serious Protestants.

But if you look at the institution itself, anytime secular political correctness conflicts with Catholic teaching, they go with secular political correctness.

The bureaucracy is shot through with political correctness. There are tons of bureaucrats that have multicultural or diversity or inclusion in their titles, and theyre all committed to bringing politically correct speakers to campus, punishing people for politically incorrect speech.

The Newman Society: From your perspective as somebody whos taught in a Catholic university, what kind of discussions should be happening in classrooms at Catholic universities?

McAdams: For a real Catholic university, the center of gravity should be in the direction of Catholic teaching. That is to say, there should be a majority of faculty that accept Catholic teaching about marriage. There should be a majority of faculty that accept Catholic teaching about abortion or transgenderism.

The center of gravity has to be in a Catholic direction. But, if the center of gravity is in a secular direction such that people are scared to say that they think homosexual acts are sinful, that is dangerous.

The Newman Society: What can professors do to ensure that students can feel comfortable voicing Church teachings in the classroom?

McAdams: We can send the message that yes, you can have different opinions in my class. When I get reinstated which I certainly expect to be I will tell my students that. Academia generally sends the message that you can get in trouble if you say anything politically incorrect.

The Newman Society: What would be the main reason a professor at a Catholic university would not permit discussion in the classroom about things that are in line with the faith, i.e., opposition to same-sex marriage?

McAdams: Political correctness. [They] increasingly believe that opinions they dont like should be shut up.
