Plug Pulled 500 Hours Into Poker Bankroll Challenge: "We Just Take the L" – PokerNews.com
Posted: at 1:12 am
It's game over for Kevin Martin and his livestreamed poker bankroll challenge after 500 hours and just $500 of poker profit.
The GGPoker ambassador took on one of the wildest bankroll challenges in poker history. Dubbed "Poker from Zero," he set out to turn $0 into $5,000 and he livestreamed his entire life until he reached the goal or hit 500 hours. His first step was to pawn off a few items so that he could have a few hundred bucks in his online poker account. From there, the rest of the money came from micro stakes poker earnings.
Shortly after calling it quits Wednesday, Martin posted a brief video on X reviewing the challenge. He was quite candid about the difficulties of playing poker for a living.
"In terms of the poker, I have to be humble about it. We just take the 'L,' man, we just take the 'L," Martin said. "I won but like we just failed at the challenge."
In the end, he made approximately $3 per hour of playing poker. Most of the remaining hours during the Twitch livestream were spent sleeping, eating, or just taking a break from playing cards.
Martin acknowledged there are some haters out there who criticized him for taking on the challenge or for not seeing it through to his $5,000 goal, but he made no excuses.
"We just didn't get there. We just didn't crush. I'll take responsibility, bro, I could have played better," Martin owned up.
Livestreaming poker is not an easy gig, especially when the cameras are rolling 24 hours a day for three weeks. He never once took a day off from grinding at stakes well below his regular bankroll, not even during brutal sessions.
The bankroll rise was slow and inconsistent. Last weekend, he peaked at around $1,300, but then dipped down around $900 and below for the remainder of the challenge. He said he's going to round up the bankroll to $1,000 and give it away to a random YouTube subscriber.
Every day during the challenge, Martin's staff uploaded a recap video from the previous day to his YouTube channel. which saw a massive uptick in subscribers because of the 24/7 livestream, one of his top highlights of the past few weeks.
At the conclusion of his Wednesday X video, he left a valuable message to those who followed him on this entertaining journey.
"Poker has been a beautiful professional pursuit for me," Martin said. "But for most people, don't try to spin it from zero. Poker very often is this beautiful game of skill, but there's a lot of things that can go your way. Many good players have busted, and I'd recommend playing the game on the side passionately, just always take care of your money."
"I woke up and I grinded every single day, man. I couldn't have tried any harder at this thing. I really didn't think it would end this way, but off to the farm I go."
And with that, the bankroll challenge has concluded at about 10% of the initial goal. On a positive note for "K-Mart," thousands watched on Twitch, his YouTube channel grew, and poker fans across the world saw just how difficult it is to build a bankroll from little to nothing.

The World Poker Tour has partnered with Papercup to automate its dubbing.
The company will use its AI tools to translate and voice 184 of the franchises 44-minute-long episodes into Brazilian Portuguese, with a three-month lead time. Previously, the company had used traditional dubbing services with a six-month lead time.

Marc M. Dion, director of distribution & ad sales at World Poker Tour, said: The quality of Papercup dubbing has been second to none. A big part of that is down to their AI voices and expert translators who go through every sentence to make sure the moment is truly captured in the new AI dubs. The major streaming platforms have very stringent criteria when it comes to dubbed content and if its going to connect with our shared viewers. When they gave us the thumbs up, we knew we were ready to move forward with Papercup.
Jesse Shemen, CEO of Papercup, said: The world of sports and entertainment has so much to gain from the adoption of AI tools like ours. Localising quality content with the care and attention it deserves, at speed is an absolute priority for WPT in order to engage their international fan base our scalable solution means this work is finally possible.

Fouad Rabahie Becomes the Maestro of ESPT Madrid Main Event – PokerNews.com
Posted: at 1:12 am
Fouad Rabahie had everyone dancing to his tune in the PokerStars ESPT Madrid 1,100 Main Event after producing a dominant final table display in the Spanish capital.
The Lebanese poker player came onto the FT as the chip leader, which he never relinquished as he went onto bust five of the final nine. He overcame Roberto Agus in heads-up play and banked 105,000 along with his first major title.
The Main Event was well attended, with 597 entries, who generated a prize pool of 573,120.
*Denotes heads-up deal
Almost two hours of play passed before the first final table casualty. Pietro Corsi looked down at ace-king and raised it up. Lorenzo Negri woke up with pocket nines and jammed in his last eight blinds. Corsi made the easy call and paired up on the flop before holding out on the turn and river end his compatriot's run.
Big Slick then played a role in seeing off Timur Kurbanov. Eventual champion Rabahie had the premium hand and kicked off proceedings. Kurbanov had pocket jacks and ripped in his stack of more than 30 big blinds from the small blind. Rabahie, who was the chip leader heading into the final table, thought over his option while getting a count and eventually made the call. Another ace appeared on the flop and the massive pot was pushed to Rabahie.
Rabahie grabbed his second scalp of the FT after collecting B. Driewerzynski's short stack. Rabahie raise-called from the hijack with KJ. Driewerzynski made a move with his sub-four big blind stack with 104. Neither player connected on the runout, meaning Rabahie's king-high was good enough for the checkmark and knockout. Shortly after, Rabahie downed another short stack. This time, his pocket threes remained best against F. Fragkopoulos' ace-king after the chips went in preflop.
Corsi then returned to the action, ousting another Italian player. Michael Uguccioni moved all-in with pocket jacks before Corsi isolated from the big blind with king-jack. Corsi flopped a gutshot to Broadway, which came in on the turn to bring the Main Event to its final four players.
It was then Corsi's turn to find himself on the wrong side of the rail. Runner-up Agus was dealt pocket jacks in the small blind. He raised after action folded to him and quickly called an all-in when he caught Corsi speeding with A5 from the big blind. Corsi couldn't find his three-outer and headed to the payout desk for his 39,000 prize. Corsi has had a fine start to the year in these PokerStars regional events. This payday followed his ninth-place finish which came in the FPS Paris Main Event in February.
Rabahie booked his place in heads-up after working some magic with pocket jacks himself. The pocket pair held out in an all-in preflop encounter versus A. Martinez and his ace-ten.
Rabahie's final table dominance did not waiver in heads-up, and he picked up the victory after his ace-ten suited stayed in front of Agus' ace-nine.
Calum has been a part of the PokerNews team since September 2021 after working in the UK energy sector. He played his first hand of poker in 2017 and immediately fell in love with the game. Calum's proudest poker achievement is winning the only tournament he has ever played in Las Vegas, the prestigious $60 Flamingo evening event.

John Malkovich Reflects on Iconic Rounders Role as Teddy KGB in GQ Interview – PokerNews.com
Posted: at 1:12 am
"Pay that man his money." If you read that in a heavy Russian accent and immediately thought of the poker classic Rounders, you aren't the only one. John Malkovich's performance as the Russian mobster Teddy KGB produced this and many other memorable lines of what is widely considered the greatest poker movie of all time.
Malkovich, an acclaimed American actor who has been nominated for two Academy Awards and three Golden Globe Awards, recently spoke with GQ about his role in the 1998 film, a role that still follows him 25 years later.
Certain people still come up to me in airports, on planes, in restaurants or whatever, and thats the thing they want to talk about: Teddy KGB," Malkovich said. "A lot of times its people who went through a poker player phase or are still going through it.
Rounders Celebrates 25th Anniversary
Malkovich's comment came during a 38-minute segment uploaded March 14 breaking down his most iconic characters from movies like Con Air, Burn After Reading and Being John Malkovich. Around five minutes of that centered around his over-the-top performance bordering on caricature as Teddy KGB.
I thought it was a pretty funny part, flashy in that way," he explained. "And the real decision about that was just how broad to go.
Most memorable in his performance as Teddy KGB was his thick Russian accent, which Malkovich said was inspired by Lithuanian actress Ingeborga Dapkunaite.
"There (has) been, and continues to be, probably, a lot of discussion about my accent, which was actually taught to me by a great actress called Ingeborga Dapkunaite, who grew up in Lithuania, but her father was a Soviet diplomat, lived and worked in Moscow for years, so she taught me the accent. Ive spent a decent amount of time in Russia, and there are a lot of words which just kind of come back all the time. Things like 'him,' they just dont say 'him,' they for the most part cant do it.
I thought it was a pretty funny part, flashy in that way."
That was kind of a decision to, as they say, go big or home. You could certainly do it a lot more suddenly than I did, but thats also kind of what Matt (Damon) was doing.
Erik Seidel Talks About Rounders Cameo
Malkovich went on to say that Rounders was great fun to film" and even led to him landing a role on the TV drama Billions.
"It continues to have an audience. And I do remember Pay that man his money, which I thought was quite a good line."
"Very much enjoyed Matt, good group of people and actors," said Malkovich. "I like (director) John Dahl very much. I hung out a lot with Brian Koppelman and David Levien, the writers, and they had said at one point we want you to play a Russian in all of our films And then just a couple years ago actually they asked me to play a Russian oligarch in their series Billions, which they were the showrunners for, which was great fun.
Johnny Chan Remembers Rounders Appearance
Not only did his role as Teddy KGB land Malkovich a future gig, it also still follows him to this day.
"It continues to have an audience. And I do remember Pay that man his money, which I thought was quite a good line. Quite stylish, actually. I dont know that I delivered it stylishly.
Head to YouTube to hear Malkovich talk about Teddy KGB and his other iconic characters.

Rumored Ryan Garcia in Millions of Debt from Poker – HighstakesDB
Posted: March 12, 2024 at 1:55 am
The host, True Geordie, speaks about Ryan Garcia's scary transformation in a recent YouTube video on the Pain Game channel.
A voice that used to be clear and sure of itself is now messy and erratic. Garcia's facial twitches are brought up by the host, a strange behaviour that hints at deeper issues lurking beneath the surface
Ryan Garcia's rise in the boxing world was remarkable. His youthful charm and undeniable talent quickly made him famous, winning over fans and investors.
His dedication to fighting tough opponents won him respect in the ring and affection outside of it. However, a darker story unfolded behind all the flash and glitz.
It all began with whispers and murmurs, a sudden change in behavior and speech that caught the attention of fans and pundits alike.
Garcia, scheduled to face Devin Haney in what promised to be a blockbuster showdown, appeared anything but ready for the ring. His once-clear voice, now strained and erratic, coupled with peculiar facial twitches, raised alarm bells among observers.
Garcia's words, captured in interviews and social media posts, paint a troubling picture. His erratic behaviour, from accusing others of drug use to proclaiming himself a warrior against unseen forces, suggests a mind in turmoil.
Yet even in the middle of the chaos, Garcia's pleas for help and understanding show signs of vulnerability and hopelessness.
Many have speculated that Garcia's troubles stem from his illicit drug abuse. Although we shouldn't judge, the indications are concerning.
The inconsistent actions combined with strong denials and deflections create an unsettling image. There's speculation about why Garcia is acting in such a manner. There are allegations he's got massive gambling debts, rumored to be millions in pounds from poker.
If that's the case, maybe he's trying to escape the stress of boxing and owing money, struggling with the pressure of being Ryan Garcia, wealthy at such a young age.
Ryan Garcia's rapid rise to stardom may have come at a cost. Maintaining a public image and the demands of professional boxing can be too much for even the most experienced athletes.
Garcia's problems may have been worsened because he was young and lacked experience managing the turbulent waters of fame.
Despite everything going on, one thing is still clear: Ryan Garcia needs help. His health should be the most important thing, whether he's dealing with drug abuse, mental health problems, or both before it's too late.

It comes as no surprise that famed "Food Network" star Ree Drummond can summon her family around the table. Only this time, it's not for her famous food.
"The Pioneer Woman" herself shared cute pictures from a family reunion this past weekend with three of her four grown children. She and her husband are also foster parents to Jamar, 21, who joined their household in 2018.
"Poker yesterday, church today," she wrote alongside a series of photos taken beneath a steeple. "Ill take em however I can get em!" she joked.

In recent years, as her children have gotten older, Drummond has been focused on bettering herself, losing an impressive 55 pounds.
"Roughly one year ago, I decided I wanted to lose weight," the 55-year-old wrote in a blog post in 2022. "I had zero idea how I was going to do this, I only knew that I needed to start."
"Today I feel stronger, more in balance (both physically and mentally), and I have more spring to my step. I am wearing clothes I wasn't comfortable wearing a year ago, I feel better about the way I look, and I'm smiling more (yes, even more than I smiled before, which was a lot--haha) and that is a nice feeling," she explained.

Sugen Singh Takes The Trophy in the 2024 Sunbet Poker Tour Time Square Main Event – PokerNews.com
Posted: at 1:55 am
Three winners were crowned in the 2024 SunBet Poker Tour Time Square Main Event at the Time Square Casino in Pretoria, but only one of them walked away with the trophy. After a three-way deal, Sugen Singh posed for the winner shots and shared the biggest portion of the ZAR5,266,800 ($281,989) prize pool with SM and MAJ, both of which showcased their talents at the live-streamed final table.
The tournament drew 418 entries across four starting days to surpass the ZAR5,000,000 guarantee, and the trio atop walked away with juicy paydays from a ZAR15,000 (~$ $790) buy-in, which attracted many notables of the close-knit South African poker community.
Singh, whose first name means lion, is known as the man with the many rings and once more brought all the bling to the tables. When the deal was cut, he held the second-biggest stack and took home the trophy along with ZAR707,675 ($38,214). SM dominated the final day and collected ZAR1,000,000 ($54,000), whereas third-placed MAJ secured a payday of ZAR600,000 ($32,400).
Jarred Solomon was the final casualty of the tournament when he lost a flip to SM and the second in South Africa's all-time money list bowed out in fourth place. Rather surprisingly, the two biggest stacks heading into the final day, Keegan Pillay and Roy Bitton, missed the nine-handed final table.
*The final three players agreed to a deal; chip leader SM took the most money, and Sugen Singh received the winner's trophy
The final day brought back one dozen hopefuls, and it didn't take long for the fireworks to kick off. Bitton started the day second in chips but became the first casualty after a rotten run of cards. He lost jacks to the ace-queen of Gavin Sardini and queens versus Singh, who won the flop with ace-king suited. Sardini then finished the job he had started to reduce the field to eleven.
Edgar Antezana came into the final as the shortest stack and missed out on a pay jump before Pillay's cold run came to an end on the feature table as well. By then, SM was already the chip leader and he never surrendered the top spot anymore until the deal of the final three players was cut.
Sardini jammed the nut flush on a single-raised yet five-way flop only for SM to call with the top two pair out of the big blind, further cementing his lead by a wide margin. Gareth Kalil went from short stack to contender for the top spot only to fall from grace in quick succession and he was soon joined at the payout desk by Norman Cherry. David Ng, second on the all-time money list of Mauritius, bowed out soon after, and the field was down to five by the time the second break took place.
Only a couple of hands were played thereafter as Danny Dayani lost a flip to MAJ and Solomon suffered the same fate versus run-away chip leader SM. A few moments later, the final three players agreed on a deal and the final day concluded after a mere four hours.
The partnership between the Monster Jam Poker Tour (MJPT) and Sun International Group, one of the biggest gaming and hospitality companies in South Africa, has been very fruitful in the last two years since the debut of the SunBet Poker Tour here at the Time Square Casino in Pretoria.
Another five stops of the SunBet Poker Tour are already scheduled for 2024, with the next series taking place at the stunning five-star The Palace of the Lost City. Widely considered as one of the must-visit stops thanks to the beautiful location near the Pilanesberg National Park, the SunBet Poker Tour Sun City takes place from April 24 to May 5, 2024.

One thing that fans can look forward to is Durrr's Game, a regularly streamed High Stakes game that will feature Dwan and a number of other high-profile players. Hitting the ACR Poker client in the near future, this will entertain fans with exciting poker that echoes the high stakes cash games of the past while experimenting with some new formats and features.
Dwan joins other ACR Pros like 2003 WSOP Main Event Champion Chris Moneymaker, Chris Moorman, and Jose 'Nacho' Barbero representing the 23-year-old online poker site.
An ACR Poker representative said of Dwan, "We're really excited to bring Tom Dwan aboard. His bold, daring approach to poker is a great fit with ACR Poker's mentality and we're excited that he'll be working with us to bring big poker to more people, both in the U.S. and around the world."
