Ali Imsirovic Wins Seventh High Roller of the Year, $183K – CardsChat.com

Posted: at 3:27 am

Going into 2020, Ali Imsirovic was on our high-roller radar. But as the pandemic made minced meat of everyones poker calendar, we didnt necessarily expect him to be such a dominating force going into the high season for big buy-in events of 2021. On Thursday, the Bosnian wunderkind won his seventh such title at the newly launched PokerGO Cup.

Ismirovic did it in Event #2, a $10,000 NLH, adding another $183,000 to his bankroll by besting a 61-player field of tough pros.

Two-time Global Poker Index Player of the Year Alex Foxen shipped the first PokerGO Cup event, also a $10K Holdem, for $178K, after a wild heads-up battle with Sean Perry, in which Foxen squandered a 20-1 chip advantage before coming from behind to win. But he didnt have the same magic the next day, bustingin 18th place, nine spots shy of the money.

A slumping Daniel Negreanu also fell short of the money, as did such big names asCary Katz, Bill Klein, Phil Hellmuth, and Stephen Chidwick. Hellmuth is now 0-3 in PokerGO Cup tournaments. He entered Event #3 on Thursday, but was eliminated in 14th place out of 53 players. Only eight players in that event will cash when the final table takes place Friday at the PokerGO Studio in Las Vegas.

Imsirovic has been dominating the felt since the beginning of the year. Below is a quick look at the high-roller tournaments hes won so far in 2021.

Imsirovic now has over $11.6 million in live tournament cashes, adding more than $2.6 million in 2021 a year in which high-stakes events were scarce until May. Now that the high-roller circuit is back in full swing, the Bosnian poker superstar has been destroying the competition. He added 183 PokerGO Tour points to his record, and now has a 527-point lead over Sean Perry, who is in second place.

Is it too early to start thinking of this 26-year-old as a future Hall of Famer?

Kenney to Hellmuth: "Choose The Game and Let’s Play" – PokerNews.com

Posted: at 3:27 am

Bryn Kenney has more live poker tournament winnings than any other player on the planet. The New Yorker has amassed an incredible $56,403,501 during a long and illustrious career according to The Hendon Mob, with plenty more to come.

PokerNews' Sarah Herring recently caught up with Kenney and conducted an exclusive interview while Kenney was chilling out at Encore, Las Vegas. They spoke at length about:

Despite being poker's all-time money list, Kenney didn't hold back about the High Roller scene in 2021, saying he has no interest in playing any of them. Although he said he could be tempted if called upon.

"These [High Rollers] that happen every day, I have no interest at all in. That would be saying I'm focused on poker, having that title, and winning more money, which I really have no interest in.

Related: Bryn Kenney - The $55 Million Dollar Man

"But at the same time, anyone who thinks they're the best, whenever a big tournament comes around, let's say a $250K buy-in, or $1M buy-in, I'm ready to put my money where my mouth is and play anyone at all times. If they think because I haven't played in the last little bit that they're more prepared than I am, then there's only one way to prove that: throw a bunch of money into the fire and see what goes on!"

Kenney freely admits to changing a lot over the last five or so years, losing more than 60 pounds in weight and making huge changes to his lifestyle. As a result, he appears calmer and more collected than ever before.

"I had two stints of losing all this weight, but unless you set these things into your life, like health into your life, you're just going to go back and forth if you're not really connected to wanting to do that. But now, I've been working out, eating super healthy, and I haven't smoked in a week. I want to take a month's break because I've smoked so much weed my whole life, and I feel like it's time to cleanse my system.

"I just forgot about the health aspect of things and didn't really realize how important it was to show up in your best, with good energy every day; feeling great is such an important thing, and I'm loving it."

$56 million in lifetime earnings might seem to many that Kenney has reached the pinnacle of the poker world, but he says there are many more challenges ahead.

"I've made tons of mistakes throughout my poker career"

"I see my entire poker career like climbing a mountain. Along that mountain, when you're in your early stages, you think you can run at certain points, but when you try to run, you just slip down and start over again. Then you get more knowledge, more understanding, and you start scaling that mountain with intelligence and smart decisions."

"I've made tons of mistakes throughout my poker career - they've all been money-related, being careless about money really - but the important thing is to just accept where you're at and not be burdened by what your past was. Reflect on that and try to be better every day."

Bryn Kenney Top 5 Cashes

So after running, slipping, making mistakes, and picking himself back up, Kenney made his way to the top of the poker mountain but says that there's a lot more to come.

"It's like I'm at the top of that mountain, looking around, I realized that it was just a baby mountain with all these giant mountains around. A lot of people get comfort in being the best at something or whatever skill they have, and they just stay on top of that mountain forever."

Kenney has previously told Herring in an interview at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure that he was the best poker player in the world. PokerNews knows at least one man who disagrees with that, a certain Phil Hellmuth Jr. Both Kenney and Hellmuth are larger-than-life characters, so there were bound to be clashes between the pair over the years.

"I want to give credit and respect to Phil for sure, he's got the most bracelets in the world, and he's been crushing these guys in these heads-up matches. I mean, he must have a special type of instinct for things in general; he's a character for sure!

Kenney said the first time he played, he offered to play Hellmuth heads-up for $100,000 in any game Hellmuth wanted to play.

"He can talk all he wants, but when he wants to talk about being an Apex predator and being best in the world, I'm like OK, sure, Phil, so how do you want to prove that? Do you want to play me heads-up? You wanna cross-book in tournaments? You wanna cross-book in cash games? Mix, PLO, no-limit hold 'em, you know, you choose the game and choose a high price and let's just play, and we can show people who is the best anytime."

Hellmuth Sweeps Negreanu To Win High Stakes Duel II

Finding himself at the top of poker's all-time money list is a remarkable achievement, but Kenney wants more than the money; the money is no longer important to him. He wants to help grow the game that has given him so much in his life.

"I think I'm a great ambassador for the game, and I love the game. I want to see it grow, and I want to see it highlighted in the right way. I want to see people who are there to have fun and play to actually have fun and play."

Poker has been good to Kenney throughout his career and given him opportunities and experiences some of us can only dream of. Some of the skills learned, and people met through poker are transferable and can go a long way to help others on their own journies, something Kenney is keen to do.

"I feel that with those skills and the intelligence that I have, and the network that I have, I feel a responsibility to myself and to the world to use what I learned and use the resources that I have to go on the next run and climb the next mountain. I want to make a difference to the world, and I feel that I'm in a perfect situation and scenario that I can use those skills and what I've learned to really take to the next level. I want to fight and stand up for others."

"If you're on the right path, you're like a student of life forever"

"Life is just amazing because you can have such a great understanding of something, then have no understanding of something else, so you can always just jump into new areas that you're interested in and start as a beginner.

"Even people who call themselves a master of anything, master says you've reached a certain level, that there's no growth from there, which I don't really think exists in anything. It's more like if you're on the right path, you're like a student of life forever."

My kinda club right here! First time here was a few weeks ago when they played 90s/00s music (the best!). One minute its Ja Rule. Next minute its Mandy Moore. So yes, diversity for real. It felt like a large karaoke session. Good prices on drinks. They rotate themes each week. I had so much fun in this tight space. Best to check out the website before heading out. Poker Overview

Put on your poker face (friendly nod to Lady Gaga) and enjoy the webs best free online poker games! Perfectly suited for new or long-time players, these games truly are the World Series of Poker! Come back daily and test your poker hand.

Poker of all types, including Texas Hold'em and video poker, are easy to play, but difficult to master. Dont take our word for it just ask one of the worlds more than 100 million players! Although it is a card game based on luck of the draw, poker also requires thought and strategy. Poker is a game with many different forms and variations, and each one has its own set of rules and nuances. That being said, here are some concepts that will help you become a winner at poker no matter what game you play!

The highest value hand in poker is typically a royal flush. You have a royal flush when your best five-card hand consists of an Ace, King, Queen Jack and a 10 card, all in a single suit. The next best hand is four of a kind (for example, 4 aces), followed by a full house, which is three of a kind plus a pair (for example, three Aces and two Kings). After that comes a flush, which is when your hand consists of five cards that are all the same suit. The next highest-ranking poker hand is a straight: when all five of your cards are in the same numerical order (ex. 10,J,Q,K,A), followed by three of a kind (ex. AAA), and finally, a pair. The lowest value is a high card where the strength of your hand is simply the highest card you have been dealt (ex. A)

From blinds to buttons, flops to folds, and deals to draws, there are about a dozen terms thatll improve your odds of success on the poker table.

When it is your turn to act, or, make a decision in the game, you will typically have the following options:

Bet: Place a bet with your poker chips based on how strong you think your hand is.

Call: If another player has placed a bet, you may opt to match the bet they have made and continue with the game.

Raise: If another player has bet before you, you have the option to bet more than the amount of that player. If you choose to raise the stakes, its typically best to have a hand that you think is better than everyone elses (unless you want to just bluff and pretend that you do in order to get your opponents to fold!).

Check: If no other poker player has bet yet and it is your turn, you can decline to bet as well, passing it along to the next person or poker round. This is called a check.

Fold: You have to know when to hold em, and know when to fold em, as they say. If someone has bet before you and your poker hand isnt particularly strong, its probably best to just fold and wait until the next game.

One of the most important attributes of every winning poker player is their tendency to bet larger amounts when their hand is stronger, and smaller amounts when their hand is weaker. In fact, the best players regularly fold (give up their hand without betting) when the cards they have been dealt are not particularly strong. The best players, indeed, fold most of their poker hands!

Poker, card game, played in various forms throughout the world, in which a player must call (i.e., match) the bet, raise (i.e., increase) the bet, or concede (i.e., fold). Its popularity is greatest in North America, where it originated. It is played in private homes, in poker clubs, in casinos, and over the Internet. Poker has been called the national card game of the United States, and its play and jargon permeate American culture.

Although countless variants of poker are described in the literature of the game, they all share certain essential features. A poker hand comprises five cards. The value of the hand is in inverse proportion to its mathematical frequency; that is, the more unusual the combination of cards, the higher the hand ranks. Players may bet that they have the best hand, and other players must either call (i.e., match) the bet or concede. Players may bluff by betting that they have the best hand when in fact they do not, and they may win by bluffing if players holding superior hands do not call the bet.

There are forms of poker suitable to any number of players from 2 to 14, but in most forms the ideal number is 6, 7, or 8 players. The object is to win the pot, which is the aggregate of all bets made by all players in any one deal. The pot may be won either by having the highest-ranking poker hand or by making a bet that no other player calls. The following principles apply to nearly all forms of poker.

Poker is almost always played with the standard 52-card deck, the playing cards in each of the four suits (spades, hearts, diamonds, clubs) ranking A (high), K, Q, J, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, A (low only in the straight [a series of five cards numbered consecutively] or straight flush [a series of five cards numbered consecutively within the same suit] 5-4-3-2-A and in certain variants described below).

In social play, especially in dealers choice (i.e., a card-playing session in which each player takes a turn at dealing the cards and selecting the game), certain cards may be designated wild cards. A wild card stands for any other card its holder wishes to name. There are many methods of introducing wild cards into the game. The most popular are:

Bug. The same 53-card pack including the joker is used, but the jokerhere called the bugcounts only as a fifth ace or to fill a flush [a series of five cards of the same suit], a straight, or certain special hands.

Deuces wild. All four deuces (2s) are wild cards.

The rank of standard poker hands is determined by their odds (probability). Two or more identical hands tie and divide any winning equally. The suits have no relative rank in poker. When there is any wild card in the game, the highest possible hand is five of a kind, which beats any straight flush. When there are several wild cards, there may be identical fours of a kind or threes of a kind, in which case ties are broken by the highest unmatched cards or secondary pairs (in a full house [a five-card hand made up of three of a kind and a pair]).

At the start of the game, any player takes a pack of cards and deals them in rotation to the left, one at a time faceup, until a jack appears. The player receiving that card becomes the first dealer. The turn to deal and the turn to bet always pass to the left from player to player. For each deal, any player may shuffle the cards, the dealer having the last right to shuffle. The dealer must offer the shuffled pack to the opponent to the right for a cut. If that player declines to cut, any other player may cut.

A professional dealer is used in poker clubs, casinos, and tournament play, where a round disc (known as a dealer button) is passed clockwise each hand to indicate the nominal dealer for betting purposes. Also, such environments almost invariably charge the players either by setting an hourly rental fee for their seats or by raking a small percentage (say, 5 percent) from each pot.

In each deal there are one or more betting intervals according to the specific poker variant. In each betting interval, one player, as designated by the rules of the variant being played, has the privilege or obligation of making the first bet. This player and each player in turn after him must place in the pot the number of chips (representing money, for which poker is almost invariably played) to make his total contribution to the pot at least equal to the total contribution of the player before him. When a player does this, he is said to be in the pot, or an active player. If a player declines to do this, he discards his hand and is said to drop or fold, and he may no longer compete for the pot.

Before the deal, each player may be required to make a contribution to the pot, called an ante. In each betting interval, the first player to make a bet is said to bet, a player who exactly meets the previous bet is said to call, and a player who bets more than the previous bettor is said to raise. In some variants, a player is permitted to check, which is to stay in without betting, provided no other player has made a bet in that betting interval. Since a player cannot raise his own bet, each betting interval ends when the betting turn has returned to the person who made the last raise or when all players have checked.

At the end of each betting interval except the last, dealing is resumed. At the end of the last betting interval, there is the showdown, in which each active player shows his full hand, and the highest-ranking hand wins the pot.

There are no-limit or skys-the-limit games, but in practice most poker games place some limit on what one may bet in any game. There are three popular methods.

In fixed-limit games, no one may bet or raise by more than the established limit. In draw poker the limit is usually twice as much after the draw as beforefor example, two chips before the draw, four chips after. In stud poker the limit is usually twice as much in the final betting interval as in previous betting intervals. (The higher limit applies also when any players exposed cards include a pair.) These respective forms of the game are described below. In a fixed-limit game a limit is usually placed on the number of raises that may be made in any betting interval.

In pot-limit contests, a player may bet or raise by no more than the amount in the pot at the time the bet or raise is made. When raising, the player may first put in the pot the number of chips required to call the previous bet and then raise by the number of chips in the pot. When pot limit is played, it is customary also to place a maximum limit on any bet or raise, regardless of the size of the pot.

This method most closely approximates the no-limit game. Each players limit is the number of chips he has on the table at the beginning of the deal. He may not bet more, but for this amount he may call any higher bet (go all in) and compete for the pot in the showdown. Other players having more chips may continue to bet, but their further bets go into one or more side pots in the manner decided among the players who contributed fully to the side pot. When a player drops out of any side pot, he drops out of the original pot as well, in effect surrendering his rights in the original pot to the player whose later bet he did not call. Thus, there may be different winners of the main pot and various side pots.

How to Play Poker (with Pictures) – wikiHow

Posted: at 3:23 pm

Article SummaryX

Before you get started playing any type of 5-card poker, youll need to learn the 10 basic ways to win. In order from lowest to highest, they are:

1. High card.2. Pair of cards, like two 2s.3. Two pairs of cards, like two 5s and two 9s.4. Three of a kind, like three 4s.5. Straight, which is five cards in sequential order. For example, a player might have a 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 of any suit.6. Flush, which is when a player has five cards of the same suit in any order. For example, a player might have a 2, 7, 10, Jack, and Queen of spades.7. Full house, which is when a player has a pair and a three of a kind.8. Four of a kind, like all four Aces.9. Straight flush, which is when you have five cards in sequential order of the same suit. For example, a player might have a 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 of clubs.10. Royal Flush, which is a straight flush containing a 10, Jack, Queen, King, and Ace.

If two people have the same hand, the person with the higher cards wins. So for example, if Daniel has a pair of 3s and Maggie has a pair of 10s, Maggie wins because her pair is higher.

To play Texas HoldEm, which is the most common type of poker, youll first need to bet your ante, which is your buy in bet to play the round. The ante is usually a small bet, like $1 or $5, and its decided by the table. Once everyone has their ante, the dealer will deal two cards to each player. Keep these cards secret from everyone else. Now, every player will take a look at their cards and choose whether or not to bet. Whenever theres a betting round, you can choose to fold, which means not playing this round, check, which means matching their bet, or raise, which means adding more money to the betting pool. Players that are unwilling to check a bet have to fold; and if everyone but one player folds, that player wins! Once everyone has bet, the dealer will reveal three cards. These cards are known as the flop. When you see the flop, start planning what hand you want to make, keeping in mind that there are still two more cards to be revealed. For example, you might want to aim for a flush, which is when you have five cards of the same suit. After the flop, everyone has the chance to bet again, before the dealer reveals the next card, which is the turn. Bet again if you want to, then the dealer will reveal the river, which is the last card. At this point, youll see a total of 7 cards: two in your hands, and five on the table. Now, players will bet once last time, then everyone will reveal their hand. Your goal is to create the highest hand possible out of those seven cards, even if it means only using one card from your hand and four cards from the table. The player with the best hand wins!
