The PokerNews live reporting team is hard at work covering every single bracelet event from the 2021 World Series of Poker, bring you all the action from the tables at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino.

In addition to all the live reporting available on PokerNews, we'll be bringing you the Hands of the Week every Thursday, picking up some of the most eye-catching hands from the past week.

Follow all the live-action as it happens from the 2021 World Series of Poker in Las Vegas!

With just four players remaining in Event #29: $10,000 Short Deck No-Limit Hold'em, Dan Shak and Moshe Gabay got their respective chips in the middle in a cutoff versus button battle.

Gabay raised it up to 46,000 in the cutoff and Shak three-bet jammed on the button. Gabay then called off the rest of his stack and was the player at risk of exiting the tournament.

Gabay was in a great position for a much needed double up after seeing his was up against Shak's .

The aces were still ahead on the flop but they had to dodge a ton of outs. Shak then nailed the perfect card on the turn for a straight flush and the river became a formality. Gabay was eliminated in 4th place for $58,601.

Hand of the Week: Rollercoaster Between Kerstetter and Hegedus

Shak would be the next player eliminated from the tournament, winning $82,678 for his third-place finish. He would then be sent to the rail by Chance Kornuth, who would go on to win the event defeating Chad Campbell in heads-up play.

There have been some great moments in mixed game events so far at the WSOP; Adam Friedman completed the three-peat in the $10,000 Dealer's Choice Championship as well as Anthony Zinno withstanding a Phil Hellmuth F-Bomb tirade to win Event #27 $1,500 H.O.R.S.E. However, one mixed game moment that has gone under the radar involved John Esposito.

Esposito called the PokerNews live reporting team over to his table in Event #32 $3,000 H.O.R.S.E. He reported to us that he had played the wrong game, but won the pot anyway.

"I was playing 8-or-better!," he exclaimed.

The game they were actually playing was Seven Card Stud.

Another observer said that Esposito had and made nines and fives. Much to the amusement of the table, an "Uncle Johnny" chant broke out as Esposito dragged in the pot.

For the First Time in Five Years, Partypoker US Network Leads the New Jersey Online Poker Market – Pokerfuse

Posted: at 10:53 am

The trio of the partypoker US Network skins (BetMGM, Borgata and partypoker) operating under the Borgata license outperformed the competition in New Jersey during the month of September.

Online poker revenue figures released by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE) show the Borgata license, traditionally the smallest of the three in the state, captured the market lead for the first time in the half a decade.

Borgata Poker NJ, BetMGM Poker NJ and partypoker NJ combined for just over $1 million during September, notching an impressive 28% increase over its August figures. Year-over-year, it is a 31% up, bucking the market trend. It also marks Borgatas first seven-figure revenue in 2021.

Notably, September was the month when the partypoker US Network hosted its ultra-ambitious WPT Borgata Poker Open Main Event featuring a $1 million guarantee. The marquee event along with various other accompanying promotions must have helped boost figures for the network.

How to Watch the Triton Million Poker Tournament – HighstakesDB

Posted: at 10:22 pm

The Triton Million Tournament was the biggest charity poker tournament that has ever been held. It was hosted by Triton Poker, and 54 players were fighting for the throne. The buy-in was 1,050,000, and 50,000 from the buy-in was paid as a charity fee. They succeeded in raising a total of 2,700,000 in charity funds that were given to 15 different causes.

The tournament took place in London, at the Park Lane Hilton, and actually, the tournament had the most expensive buy-in to date. Interestingly, among the 54 players, some were poker professionals, and some were fellow businessmen who wanted to participate in this record-breaking poker tournament.

Jason Koon, Justin Bonomo, Tom Dwan, and Tony G were some of the most skillful poker players that were participating in the Triton Million Charity Tournament. On the other hand, Rob Yong, Bobby Baldwin, and Paul Phua were the most famous businessmen that tried to outsmart the pros.

This tournament was unique in so many ways. It was being played on two days, and on the first day, the poker pros competed against themselves, and the businessmen played against businessmen. All the Day 1 survivors were merged into Day 2, where they played until there was a winner of this exceptional tournament.

Also, coverings above the neck were forbidden, so the players werent allowed any sunglasses or scarves. On top of that, every player that was playing at the final table of the tournament was obligated to wear a suit.

Aaron Zang managed to win the Triton Million tournament by winning against Bryn Kenney in the Heads-Up battle. Even though Kenney had four-time more chips than Zang, they made a deal where Kenney took 16,890,509, and Zang scooped a total of 13,779,491.

After the deal had been made, Zang managed to win two crucial hands, which helped him win the trophy.

We are very pleased that Triton Poker has decided to refresh our memories by releasing ten videos on their YouTube Channel. Two videos of the series are going to be released each week, so you will have plenty of time to watch all of the great hands that were played in that hell of a tournament. Daniel Negreanu and Ali Nejad were commenting on Episode 1 of the series, so you can expect ten videos of great value if you are a poker enthusiast.

We Have Betting Lines for the 2021 Poker Hall of Fame – CardsChat.com

Posted: at 10:22 pm

October 20, 2021WSOP News

Poker Hall of Fame officials (aka the WSOP) released their 2021 nominations on Monday, adding three new names to a list of longtimers hoping to get in before they die. I spoke with some opinionated pros and industry insiders while looking at nominations in previous years to come up with betting lines for entertainment purposes only, of course.

Nominees are determined by an online voting process open to the public, with the top 10 being put before the 32 living members of the Poker Hall Of Fame, who then vote to select one new member each year. A media panel that used to contribute to the vote was disbanded in 2020.

The three new names added are all players known for their domination at the table Bertrand ElkY Grospellier, Layne Flack, and Michael Mizrachi.

The three names bumped off the list in 2021 were poker legend Patrik Antonius and ESPN broadcasters Lon McEachern and Norman Chad, who were the first duo to be nominated together.

Officially, the criteria for eligibility are:

Unofficially, here are the odds in alphabetical order:

Eli Elezra (+1100)

Elezra is a great player and a great guy. He belongs in the hall someday, but this year, there are too many other strong entries and I dont think this is his time. He did come in fourth last year, so the Israeli mixed-game wizard isnt entirely out of the running.

Antonio Esfandiari (+900)

Esfandiari is not only one of the most famous players on the list, but hes also amassed nearly $28 million in winnings and had his own TV show. Antonio will definitely get in the hall, but Im not sure it will be this year.

Chris Ferguson (+2000)

Ferguson is one of the most famous players in the world and his accomplishments at the table are impressive. The question is whether or not his involvement with Full Tilt Poker will hurt his standing with the voters. I think, with at least some of them, the cloud from the aftermath of Black Friday hasnt lifted. Jesus may get in someday, but theres no indication it would be this year.

Layne Flack (-220)

Flack sadly died unexpectedlyin July and will be missed by many. He likely would have ended up in the hall anyway, but his passing is likely to speed up the process. He was friendly, charming, and well-liked in the community, though at times a tragic figure. Flack is the odds-on favorite to win this year, but voters will beyond retirement age may not appreciate him as much as some of the other nominees.

Ted Forrest (+450)

Forrest is a true legend. He belongs in the hall. Nearly every great old gambling story I hear involves him in some way, and he is well-liked by the older voters in the hall. This may not be his year, but its coming sooner rather than later, and he counts many of the current members as friends.

Bertrand ElkY Grospellier (+4000)

ElkY has already had an impressive career, but hes no Daniel Negreanu or Phil Ivey. Having just turned 40 this year, he isnt well-known to some of the voters and hasnt accomplished enough at the live tournament tables to get in on his first year of eligibility.

Mike Matusow (+1800)

The Mouth is certainly famous, and despite his rants and occasional bad behavior, the old guard that makes up most of the voters views him favorably. But Mike just hasnt won enough to get in yet.

Michael Mizrachi (+2600)

Mizrachi, widely regarded as one of the best ever, also just turned 40. Even though his first-ballot inclusion is a testament to tournament victories against some of the toughest fields, I dont think he gets in yet. If he keeps up the pace, hes a shoo-in 10 or 15 years from now.

Matt Savage (+175)

Savage might be the most famous tournament director in poker. Hes well-liked and is often seen as the authority when it comes to rules and regulations, and how a tournament should be run. Savage has a real shot, but probably only if there are two nominees and he goes in with Flack. Savage was second in the voting last year, but lost to Huck Seed by a significant margin.

Isai Scheinberg (+800)

Scheinberg is the billionaire founder of PokerStars and a well-known name in the poker world, though not to most casual fans. While his contributions to the game are impressive, pros and industry experts were split on this one with quotes ranging from Isai has a real shot, to Scheinberg should be a thousand to one. Theyll put Flack in twice before they put him in. Scheinberg was third in the voting last year, so dont count him out entirely.

The winner will be announced at the Rio on Nov. 17 to coincide with both the final table of the Main Event at the World Series of Poker and a special Hall Of Fame event that offers a freeroll to current Hall of Fame members. The tournament is open to all, with a buy-in of $1,979 to celebrate the year the hall was created.

Each member of the hall will have a bounty on them equivalent to the year they were inducted, so players cannot only bust a Hall-of-Famer, but also they can get a nice payday for doing so.

US Online Poker Still Struggles While iGaming Grows – LegalUSPokerSites.com

Posted: at 10:22 pm

Home Poker News US iGaming Mostly Strong Except for Online Poker

The US internet gaming market is still growing. As many of the pandemic boosts begin to fade, most states had an initial realization period, realizing that people were free to leave their homes to gamble and find other entertainment again. Since then, though, igaming sites continue on an upward trend overall.

Online poker has reverted back to its pre-pandemic ways. After significant boosts during the lockdowns of 2020, online poker is back to an unsure place in the market. Half of the online poker states saw monthly revenue increases in September, and the other half did not.

There is still one standout reason for the inability for online poker to grow: the lack of interstate poker. After all these years, the only states signed on to the multistate online poker agreement are Nevada, New Jersey, and Delaware. And only WSOP.com is connected via that agreement. Pennsylvania has been running online poker for several years, and Michigan started this January. In addition, West Virginia and Connecticut legalized state-regulated online poker, but no operators have expressed interest in launching sites there.

The online poker market is stagnant at best until more states partner to make it work.

Lets look at the September revenue numbers for each state.

For the second month in a row, the Delaware Lottery showed significant drops in online poker revenue. In fact, the statistics for the month of September showed dips in almost every category monthly and yearly.

September 2021 online poker rake & fees: $27,134.00

August 2021 online poker: $32,332.17

September 2020 online poker: $51,403.61

Month-on-month: 16.1% decrease

Year-on-year: 47.2% decrease

Online table games dropped significantly from August to September. Video lottery and poker losses only added to that downturn. As for year-on-year numbers, video lottery revenue was the only one with a positive swing, cushioning the pain of the other decreases.

September 2021 igaming revenue: $794,644.33

August 2021 igaming: $945,512.49

September 2020 igaming: $840,146.49

Month-on-month: 16% decrease

Year-on-year: 5.4% decrease

Again, new customer signups rose, though only very slightly by 0.9% from August. Yearly, that number increased by 78.2% from 546 in 2020 to 973 in 2021. That doesnt seem to square with the other revenue changes.

The new Michigan market is still growing. Since the launch of igaming sites in January and the addition of more sites in the months since, the state has catapulted to new heights. In September, igaming revenue surpassed $100M for the month. Again, though, there is no breakout for online poker, so its performance is unknown.

September 2021 internet gaming gross receipts: $102,380,221.90

August 2021 igaming: $97,197,617.44

Month-on-month: 5.3% increase

In similar fashion, total adjusted gross receipts came in at $92,267,565 for a 5.4% monthly increase. And the amount paid to state taxes totaled $18,869,077.63, up 5.5%.

Nevada does not report its online poker revenue. The WSOP online poker site chooses not to reveal its revenue. Same story for years.

The growth trend for online poker hasnt been half bad for the last few months. There had been a slight dip in August, but September inched the number back up 2%. Baby steps are all the online poker industry can ask for.

September 2021 internet poker win: $2,491,901

August 2021 internet poker: $2,443,414

September 2020 internet poker: $2,554,216

Month-on-month: 2% increase

Year-on-year: 2.4% decrease

The rest of the market held its own, as it does every month. Online slots and table games prop up the internet gaming sector as a whole.

September 2021 internet gaming win: $122,594,948

August 2021 internet gaming: $113,230,701

September 2020 internet gaming: $87,633,697

Month-on-month: 8.3% increase

Year-on-year: 39.9% increase

Most other parts of the New Jersey gambling industry did well, too. Sports betting revenue increased 58.5% on the month and 82.9% on the year. Casinos dipped 5.3% monthly, but the entire industrys revenue shot up 6.1% from August and 40.3% from September 2020.

After two months of online poker growth in Pennsylvania, revenue was down in September for the month. Yearly growth remained on point.

September 2021 internet poker revenue: $2,924,846

August 2021 internet poker: $3,196,992

September 2020 internet poker: $2,376,045

Month-on-month: 8.5% decrease

Year-on-year: 23.1% increase

The rest of the igaming market did well monthly and yearly. Online table games saw the most growth month-on-month at 37.2% and 78% for the year. Altogether, though, it held up the igaming sector.

September 2021 internet gaming revenue: $97,828,447

August 2021 igaming: $88,719,021

September 2020 igaming: $57,041,936

Month-on-month: 10.3% increase

Year-on-year: 71.5% increase

Sports betting is coming into its own. Not only did its revenue bump up 5.7% from the previous month, it catapulted 351% from the previous year. The entire gambling industry in Pennsylvania grew 1.9% from August and 45.6% from 2020 to 2021.

2021 Poker Hall of Fame Finalists Announced – Poker News – CardPlayer.com

Posted: October 19, 2021 at 10:08 pm

The World Series of Poker announced the 10 finalists for the 2021 class of the Poker Hall of Fame Tuesday afternoon. This years nominating process began on Sept. 30, with online voting open to the public through Oct. 14.

The finalists are as follows:

Three of the ten candidates are first-time finalists, including Layne Flack, a six-time bracelet winner who passed away earlier this year.

The other two first-time finalists are Bertrand ElkY Grospellier and Michael Mizrachi. Grospellier is a triple crown winner, with a bracelet win and titles on the European Poker Tour and World Poker Tour. Mizrachi is a five-time bracelet winner, with a record three wins in the WSOP $50,000 buy-in mixed game event currently known as the Poker Players Championship. Mizrachi also has two WPT main tour titles to his name.

The iconic commentary duo of Lon McEachern and Norman Chad, as well as high-stakes legend Patrik Antonius failed to make the list after being nominated for the accolade in 2020.

Scheinberg and Savage were nominated as non-players again, while Elezra, Esfandiari, Forrest, Matusow and Forrest were nominated for their achievements on the felt for at least their second straight year.

According to the WSOP, the criteria for induction is as follows:

A player must have played poker against acknowledged top competitionBe a minimum of 40 years old at the time of nominationPlayed for high stakesPlayed consistently well, gaining the respect of peersStood the test of timeOr, for non-players, contributed to the overall growth of the game of poker, with indelible positive and lasting results

Scheinberg is one of the more controversial non-players to be nominated for the Hall of Fame. The U.S. Government indicted Scheinberg in its slew of legal actions during Black Friday in 2011.

The Israeli founded PokerStars and built it into the worlds largest online poker site. It was the online poker room that held the satellite that put 2003 WSOP main event champion Chris Moneymaker into the $10,000 buy-in event, which arguably started the poker boom.

In the wake of Black Friday, PokerStars exited the U.S. market and paid out its American players existing balances almost immediately. Its main competition, on the other hand, Full Tilt Poker, was insolvent and unable to pay its players back, leaving many American online players in a stressful financial situation.

Scheinberg worked out a deal to acquire the now-defunct Full Tilt Poker in July 2012 and used its own funds to pay back players. Despite the deal, Scheinberg was still facing charges, but eventually settled them in September 2020.

Savage is a veteran tournament director and the other eight players on the list all have millions in career earnings and multiple WSOP bracelets or other major titles.

The 32 living members of the Poker Hall of Fame will collectively vote on which of these ten finalists will become the 60th inductee. The official announcement will come on Wednesday, Nov. 17 during the new WSOP Hall of Fame Bounty tournament.

Last year saw 1996 WSOP main event champion Huck Seed inducted. In the years before 2020, there were typically two inductees announced each year. The Hall of Fame was first founded in 1979.

Here is a look at all current members of the Poker Hall of Fame:

Video poker – where are the stud games? | Casino Answer Man | atlanticcityweekly.com – Atlantic City Weekly

Posted: at 10:08 pm

The draw gives players a feeling of control. In live poker, the control players feel comes from their skill compared to opposing players. In video poker, there are no opposing players, with rare exceptions as in the holdem game with AI. Interactivity has to come from somewhere other than opponents, so it comes from the draw.

Without opponents, video poker is a different game with different conditions than live poker. Video poker players have found draw poker a more attractive option than stud poker. So in video formats, draw poker survives and stud games get shunted aside.

Q. Your description of Die Hard Craps, which uses one die, raised my curiosity. In regular craps, could I bet on just one die? Could I call out a bet on 1 and be paid if one die shows number 1?

A. No, there are no single-die bets in regular craps. If a casino accepted such bets, they would involve both dice. In a bet on 1, the casino would have to pay if a 1 showed on either die because there is no way to tell the dice apart. A bet that 1 would show up on a specific die would require a change in conditions such as using one red die and one green die.

The odds are considerably different if two dice are involved instead of one. With one die, there is a 1 in 6 chance of rolling 1. With two dice, 11 of the 36 possible, or 1 in 3.27, combinations include a 1.

If you really wanted to bet on a number turning up on one die, you could play the three-dice game sic bo. In the any one number bet, you pick a number from 1 through 6, and if your number shows up on one die, youre paid even money. You get 2-1 two dice show youre number and 3-1 for all three. The house edge is high, 7.87 percent.

Is Online Poker Coming To New York? – Rockland County Business Journal

Posted: at 10:08 pm

RCBJ-Audible (Listen For Free)

It would seem that land-based casinos are slowly but surely coming to New York State. Resorts World Catskills has been there a few years, and hasjust about survived, despite concerns about its financial circumstances a few years ago. Today, it is continuing to thrive, and its complex has an 18-story all-suite hotel and entertainment complex with 150 live Las Vegas style table games and more than 2,000 slot machines.

Meanwhile, the Resorts World at Newburgh Mall is planned for the momentto arrive in early 2022. Note that it was part of a $32 million project that will help to renovate part of the mall. It is expected to have around 1,300 electronic games, and should generate a huge amount of revenue for the area.

These two casinos are less than one hour away from one another by car, so one could spend a few days just nipping back and forth between them, collecting your winnings. With these on-land behemoths situated in and around the Hudson Valley in New York and even talk among developers of casinos opening upin Manhattan the future for casino games in the state is looking bright. Its possible that casinos will really take off in the state.

Could online poker also make an appearance sometime soon in New York State?

As it stands, only a few states have legalized online poker. But there is indeed a correlation: Among the states to have legalized real-money online pokerand land-based casinos there are a few where virtual poker is also allowed. It stands to reason that one might follow the other. Just look at Nevada and New Jersey. Both states have their own casinos, and allow legal online poker, which might suggest that live casinos raise interest in gambling, gaming and poker, and lead to more online gaming opportunities.

In all, online poker is legal in five states: Delaware, Nevada, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Michigan. It may become legal in Connecticut, as well as several other states. It is worth noting that some of the above states where it is legal, including Pennsylvania and New Jersey, are also in close proximity to New York, so theres geographical pressure there too.

The fact that these nearby states are legalizing poker, while live casinos are infiltrating the state means that you might just get to see legal online poker in New York in the coming years. This is without even mentioning the significant revenue brought in by the casinos in nearby states. As is often the case with prohibited recreational activities enjoyed by millions of people, the fact is that some people will likely set up illicit games. This is all money that, through taxes, the state could get a slice of. And money talks.

Phil Hellmuth extends record with 16th career World Series of Poker victory – ESPN

Posted: at 10:08 pm

Oct 18, 2021

Tim FiorvantiESPN.com

Phil Hellmuth won his record-extending 16th career World Series of Poker bracelet Sunday in Las Vegas, taking home an $84,951 first-place prize in the $1,500 no-limit 2-7 lowball draw event.

Hellmuth defeated Jake Schwartz heads up to secure the victory. It was Hellmuth's first WSOP win since a $5,000 no-limit hold'em event in 2018, and now puts him six WSOP victories ahead of fellow poker legends Phil Ivey, Doyle Brunson and Johnny Chan, who each have 10 WSOP bracelets.

According to the WSOP, it was Hellmuth's 70th career WSOP final table appearance -- also a record -- and his fourth such deep run since the start of the 2021 WSOP in late September.

Hellmuth, 57, also finished sixth in a $25,000 HORSE tournament, fifth in a $10,000 Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better championship and fourth in a $10,000 Seven-card Stud Championship.

Hellmuth now sits in second place in the 2021 WSOP Player of the Year race, just behind Anthony Zinno, who won the aforementioned seven-card stud championship and immediately followed that up by winning a second 2021 WSOP bracelet in a recent $1,500 HORSE tournament.
